Sarkodie urges investors to back Kumasi’s music industry https://www.adomonline.com/sarkodie-urges-investors-to-back-kumasis-music-industry/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 19:02:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2582613 Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has urged investors to channel resources into Kumasi’s creative arts sector, stressing that music is a lucrative and sustainable industry capable of generating wealth and transforming communities.

He made the call on Thursday when he delivered the keynote address at the Kumasi Rising: Music, Media & Tourism Dialogue, held at the IDL Conference Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The summit was part of activities leading up to Rapperholic: The Homecoming, Sarkodie’s highly anticipated concert set for Saturday, September 27, in Kumasi.

The event, hosted by broadcast journalist Serwah Amihere, attracted a high-profile audience, including Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister; Abeiku Santana, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Nabil Alhassan, CEO of Event Factory Ghana; artists, journalists, students, and other industry players.

Speaking on the global impact of African music, Sarkodie highlighted the role of Afrobeats in reshaping cultural pride and identity.

“We are in a great space now because of where Afrobeats is. Now we have AfroNation worldwide. Africans in the diaspora are more confident to call themselves Africans because of what we have been able to do,” he said.

He challenged investors to look beyond traditional business ventures and recognize the profitability of music.

“Music is one of the safest and most lucrative businesses you can get into. I can compare music to any other product you can talk about, be it water or real estate,” Sarkodie stated.

The rapper also underscored the importance of innovative investment models that extend beyond wealthy stakeholders, urging individuals to explore ownership and partnerships in the creative space.

“It’s about ownership. Whether it’s partnership, you can partner and own 20% or 50% depending on what you bring on board. Even as an individual, you can buy shares and make revenue from there,” he explained.

The Kumasi Rising dialogue sought to position Kumasi as a hub for music, media, and tourism while sparking conversations around sustainable investment in the city’s creative economy.

With his homecoming concert just days away, Sarkodie’s call adds weight to ongoing discussions about unlocking Kumasi’s cultural and economic potential through the arts.

My father’s training shaped my music – Akwaboah Jnr https://www.adomonline.com/my-fathers-training-shaped-my-music-akwaboah-jnr/ Thu, 18 Sep 2025 16:02:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2580203 Highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr has credited his father’s guidance and training as a key influence in shaping his music career.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness show, he explained that his father exposed him to both local and international music, helping him grasp the depth and intricacies of sound.

According to Akwaboah, this early exposure laid the foundation for creating timeless music that resonates across generations.

“My dad’s gift to me is worth more than luxury or money. He introduced me to particular songs and had incredible insight into music. We listened to a mix of contemporary and traditional tunes, both local and international.

“He helped me understand the details of music, so I grew up immersed in it and learned how it works. I discovered how to mix, match, and produce quality tunes. As a result, I know how to blend the right sounds that appeal to the audience and create lasting music,” he stated.

Music pays when you work with the right people – Gyakie https://www.adomonline.com/music-pays-when-you-work-with-the-right-people-gyakie/ Fri, 12 Sep 2025 19:03:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2577995 Ghanaian singer Gyakie has highlighted the importance of strong collaborations and effective management in the music industry, stressing that success requires more than just talent.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the “Forever” hitmaker said music can be financially rewarding, but only when artists surround themselves with people who understand the business side of the craft.

Gyakie noted that while many artists are equally talented, some fail to profit from their work due to a lack of proper support systems.

“When I look back at the time I was in school and not focused on music—probably working a 9-5 job or running my own business—I notice some differences. For me, music is a fulfilling path. There is money to be made in music, but you won’t see the profits unless you’re working with the right people.

“It’s important to be surrounded by individuals who have extensive knowledge of the business side of the music industry. Some artists create great work but don’t see the financial rewards because their management isn’t solid. A strong management team is essential,” she explained.

BB Solace to unveil divine calling in December music launch https://www.adomonline.com/bb-solace-to-unveil-divine-calling-in-december-music-launch/ Thu, 28 Aug 2025 11:34:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572063 Gospel singer and church mother Beatrice Anane, popularly known as BB Solace, is preparing to launch her debut body of work this December at Kingdom Gate Worship Centre, where she serves alongside her husband, Rev. Richard Anane, the General Overseer.

Describing the project as a divine unveiling of God-given gifts, BB Solace aims to minister, edify, and draw lost souls back to Christ through her music. Her recent single, “Trinity” (June 2025), has already resonated with listeners, marking a significant step in her journey from Kaneshie’s streets to the National Theatre stage—a story of faith, resilience, and spiritual purpose.

Born and raised in Kaneshie with ancestral roots in James Town, Accra, Beatrice is the daughter of Henry Mills and Rita Cudjoe. Her early life was shaped by challenges, including a difficult relationship with her paternal grandmother, which she says matured her spiritually.

“No one could believe I was living with my own father,” she recalls, noting how God used these adversities to strengthen her faith. Her education at St. Martin’s Preparatory School, Korle-Gonno 3 JHS, and the Institute of Catering and Home Economics in Mamprobi helped shape her diverse talents.

BB Solace says her path to music was divinely ordained. While serving as an usher at her former church, more than four prophets foretold her destiny as a musician, despite her initial belief that her visions pointed to a prophetic calling.

“The music just erupted as directed by the Holy Spirit,” she shares. This spiritual journey has resulted in a catalogue of 18 songs, including “Trinity,” all registered with COPYRITE, GHAMRO, and MUSIGA, awaiting public release.

BB Solace: A Church Mother Grounded in Faith and Ministry

BB Solace’s journey of faith began when a friend invited her to a church near her Mamprobi home. Under the guidance of a spiritual mother who taught her the Word and the discipline of prayer, she grew closer to God. It was during this period that she discovered her future husband, Rev. Richard Anane, shared the same mentor.

Her spiritual disciplines—fasting, meditation on Scripture, and consistent prayer—have kept her grounded amid her dual roles as church mother and gospel artist. Reflecting on her past struggles, including her grandmother’s mistreatment, BB Solace says, “Those experiences God used to mature me,” noting how they influence her music and ministry. Her early songs, which proclaim God as her strength, are informed by these life lessons.

A Church Mother’s Heart for Ministry

At Kingdom Gate Worship Centre, BB Solace is a pillar of faith, leading worship, counseling, teaching, and supporting outreach programs, including hospital visitations and prayers for the sick. She instills the church’s motto—“patience, persistency, and consistency”—in young women, encouraging them to embody these virtues in faith and family life. “I practice what I teach through my dressing, talking, singing, and how I carry myself,” she notes, highlighting the positive impact on her congregation.

Her ministry has faced challenges, including a tense encounter during a women’s fellowship when a member rudely questioned whether the church belonged to her. Maintaining composure, BB Solace reaffirmed her husband’s teaching: “The church belongs to Christ, not any individual or the Anane family.” This incident underscores her commitment to humility and grace in leadership.

Married to Rev. Richard Anane, BB Solace credits her husband as her unwavering support, describing him as “solid as a rock.” He not only prays with her and encourages her music ministry but also acts as her manager, even joining MUSIGA to bolster her career. “We are more than one living in two bodies,” she says of their shared morning devotions, fasting, and Bible study with their children. This unity eliminates challenges in balancing family, ministry, and music. “There’s no secret between us; we do everything together,” she adds, highlighting how their partnership fuels her work.

A Revelation-Driven Musical Journey

BB Solace’s music is a product of divine inspiration, with songs born from revelations and shaped by biblical truths and personal encounters with God. “When inspiration comes, I record it, share it with my husband, and we go to the studio,” she explains. Her creative process is organic, relying on the Holy Spirit to craft messages that resonate across diverse audiences. “God brings songs that cut across all aspects of life,” she says, citing her faith and past hardships as key influences. Her early song, “You are my God and my Strength,” reflects her journey through trials, while Trinity teaches the triune nature of God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer in an evil world.

A defining moment came at the 5th Akwaaba Festival at the National Theatre, her first major public performance under MUSIGA Ghana. “I tried to deliver my best,” she recalls, marking it as a breakthrough in her growth as an artist. Beyond music, her talents as a caterer and artist fuel her love for decoration, which she uses to recharge and maintain balance.

The December Launch: A Spiritual Milestone

The upcoming December launch at Kingdom Gate Worship Centre will showcase her full catalogue, including Trinity. “I’m expecting God to showcase what He deposited in me,” BB Solace says, aiming to edify the body of Christ and draw souls back to God. While open to collaborations with established artists or ministers, she emphasizes the project’s spiritual core. Hosting the event on church premises will ease the balance of her roles as church mother and wife, with Richard’s support ensuring a seamless execution. The launch, she hopes, will formally introduce her work to a broader audience while fulfilling her divine calling.

A Legacy of Eternal Impact

BB Solace’s long-term vision is to fulfill her God-given assignment, achieving the prophecies spoken over her life. “By the time I leave this world, I want to see all the prophecies fulfilled,” she says. Her legacy, she envisions, will be one where the name BB Solace evokes music that ministers eternally, living on in the hearts of her audience. As a gospel artist, church mother, and spiritual leader, her message is clear: faith, perseverance, and divine inspiration can transform lives.

Follow BB Solace’s journey on Instagram (@bbsolacemusic) and join her in December to experience the unveiling of her God-given gifts, a milestone that promises to resonate far beyond the walls of Kingdom Gate Worship Centre.

Kaakie was a talented artist but… – JMJ https://www.adomonline.com/kaakie-was-a-talented-artist-but-jmj/ Fri, 18 Apr 2025 15:15:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2526594 Ghanaian music producer JMJ has addressed rumours surrounding the departure of his former artiste, Kaakie, from the Xtra Large Music record label.

Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, JMJ clarified that Kaakie’s exit was largely due to her lack of long-term commitment to music, rather than any personal or financial disputes.

“What I know that you people didn’t know was that Kaakie loved music, but she wasn’t passionate about it,” he explained.

JMJ recalled an instance where radio host Abeiku Santana directly asked Kaakie if he had “chopped her money or done anything bad,” to which she responded “no.”

He further highlighted the challenges Kaakie faced trying to balance her music career with her university education, particularly as she was pursuing nursing — a demanding course.

“Kaakie didn’t have time for music but she was so talented that just 10 minutes in the studio would blow your mind. She had little time, and don’t forget, she was also in school. Nursing is not an easy course. So she was balancing the two, which I understood,” JMJ added.

He stressed that although Kaakie loved music, she didn’t view it as a long-term career, which eventually led to her decision to step away and focus on family and education.

Meanwhile, Kaakie has hinted at making a return to active music in the near future.

Christians shouldn’t sing secular songs – Gospel singer https://www.adomonline.com/christians-shouldnt-sing-secular-songs-gospel-singer/ Tue, 20 Aug 2024 16:17:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2436449 Popular gospel singer, Apostle Lenny Akpadie, has expressed his strong stance against Christians singing secular music.

During an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime, Apostle Akpadie emphasized that since Jesus is the focal point of Christianity, any music that strays from Him is not truly Christian.

“You have strayed big time if you are a Christian and you sing secular music. The standard is set by God, and He says there’s no union between light and darkness,” he said.

Apostle Akpadie also questioned the practice of gospel musicians allowing secular artists to write songs for them, calling it a serious mistake and a form of defilement.

He argued that, secular musicians lack the spiritual foundation to create songs that are truly spirit-filled, unlike gospel ministers who are guided by the Holy Spirit.

“I would never allow any artist to write my songs because I am guided by the Holy Spirit. Those gospel musicians missed it. You can’t write me a song, where is the Holy Spirit? It’s a defilement. The Holy Ghost is our teacher, and I receive songs from the Holy Ghost,” he stated.

For Apostle Akpadie, the messenger is just as crucial as the message, and he believes that gospel ministers should deliver lyrics that reflect their beliefs, as the words of a song are a direct expression of the singer’s faith.

Avoid politics to protect your career – Musicians told https://www.adomonline.com/avoid-politics-to-protect-your-career-musicians-told/ Wed, 31 Jul 2024 02:01:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2427840 Ghanaian music producer David Kwamena Bolton, known as D’KayBee, has advised musicians to avoid composing songs for political parties.

In an interview with DJ Slim on the popular entertainment radio morning show, Daybreak Hitz, Bolton shared his insights on the risks musicians face when they involve themselves in politics.

Bolton, well-known for the hit song “Odo Filla” by Abrewa Nana, reflected on his own experience during the 2000 elections. He recounted how his group, VIP, was approached by a political party to create a campaign song.

“We did it in the past and it didn’t go well,” Bolton recalled. “In 2000, the NDC approached us with the confidence that they would win the elections and paid handsomely for a victory song. We even had Nana Konadu and her children in the studio during the recording. It was a full-on party song.”

However, when the party lost the election, VIP faced significant backlash, and Bolton himself received criticism for his association with the party.

“We all know what happened. NDC lost, and then VIP started getting bashed. I got some flak from that as well,” he noted.

Additionally, Bolton advised musicians to steer clear of political affiliations if they wish to maintain a long-term career.

“I don’t think it’s worth it as a musician. If you want a long-term career, try to stay out of politics because your fan base spans all political views. You risk alienating a portion of your fans, and it’s your fan base that keeps you going.”

He elaborated further, “You might get some decent cash at the moment, but you could end up losing much more than the value of that money. I would advise any musician to stay away from politics.”

Celine Dion says ‘I’m back’ after health struggles https://www.adomonline.com/celine-dion-says-im-back-after-health-struggles/ Fri, 14 Jun 2024 12:10:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2409106

As the sun sets behind the mountains in an exclusive neighbourhood 30 minutes from the Las Vegas strip, I can hear a recognisable voice singing behind a closed door.

“Is that Celine?” I ask.

Her security man guarding the hotel suite nods.

I am about to interview a musical megastar, and it sounds like she is in a cheerful mood.

But the iconic voice I can hear casually singing away is one that fans feared they might never hear again.

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time,” she shared in an Instagram video in December 2022.

“I have been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder.”

After that devastating announcement, Celine Dion pulled out of the remainder of her world tour, and has rarely been seen in public since.

Signs of trouble

The medical name for her little-known illness is Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a neurological condition that causes muscles to spasm.

As we sit down to talk, Celine says it went undiagnosed for years.

The 56-year-old describes the distress she felt as a performer when she began to notice changes in her voice on tour.

“It was just feeling a little strange, like a little spasm,” the Canadian star says.

“My voice was struggling, I was starting to push a little bit.”

She demonstrates the subtle difference by singing the first few bars of her 1993 hit The Power of Love, showing how she was having to force her voice to hold the notes that once came more easily.

Occasionally, she would ask the conductor of her backing musicians to bring certain songs down a key for a few performances.

“I needed to find a way to be on stage,” she explains.

She hoped singing fractionally lower might give her voice a chance to recover.

Audiences would never have known the struggle she was facing behind the scenes.

But Celine says at the time it felt impossible to take time off.

“These shows were sold out for a year and a half, going around the globe.

“And I’m going to say to people, ‘Excuse me about my spasm? Excuse me about my je ne sais quoi?‘”

She put huge pressure on herself to keep the show on the road, not understanding what was causing the symptoms she was experiencing.

But it all became too much.

Her eventual diagnosis brought the realisation that this was not tour fatigue. It was permanent.

SPS is an autoimmune disease that can be debilitating. There is no known cure.

It is caused by the signals from the nerves to muscles not working properly.

During a particularly severe episode, the spasms can be so bad that she can barely move.

But having been properly diagnosed, she now understands much more about the condition, which can be managed.

“My goal is to be part of the funds and raising money for awareness and to find a cure. That would be amazing,” she says.

During her time away from performing, Celine has been learning to adapt with medication, physical therapy and the help of experts like Dr Amanda Piquet.

“Now this disease is gaining public awareness, it’s in the public eye,” says Dr Piquet.

Dr Piquet has treated a number of patients who had also gone undiagnosed for years.

The publicity gained by Celine speaking out about her battle with the illness is something she hopes will help others.

“We need to diagnose this disease better,” Dr Piquet says. “When we do, that’s going to lead to more clinical trials, and more treatments that are approved.”

She says that although Celine will live with this condition for the rest of her life, the therapy she is undergoing to lessen the muscle spasms will help her to sing on stage again.

“My voice will be rebuilt,” says Celine. “I mean, it started a while ago already. My voice is being rebuilt as we speak, right now.”

Fans will be able to see how the singer’s health struggles have affected her life in a new documentary titled I Am: Celine Dion.

She can now finally see a way back to performing, and has been preparing for a new show in Las Vegas.

“We have been working so hard to put this show together, because I’m back,” she says with a huge smile.

It is clear she has missed performing terribly.

“I’ll be on stage. I don’t know when exactly, but trust me I will scream it out loud.

“I can’t wait.”

Celine holds the record for the most successful residency of all time on the Las Vegas strip. She is extremely proud of her career, but time away has given her a chance to reflect.

After years of touring the world, she has realised she has seen very little of it.

There has been “a price to pay” for always being in tour mode while travelling, she says.

“All my days off, I wanted to be ready for the next show. I toured the world and I did not see a lot.

“But as a performer and a singer, I have received so much love from the fans.”

Queen of power ballads

My earliest memory of Celine Dion was one of our secondary school teachers playing her single Pour Que Tu M’aimes Encore on cassette tape to try to inspire our French studies.

She is best known to audiences as the queen of power ballads.

Her hits from the 90s like The Power of Love and It’s All Coming Back to Me Now are instantly recognisable for their soaring vocals.

But at the height of her health battles, Celine admits to having felt a little envious of the breathy, ‘whisperpop’ style used by some modern female artists.

Singers like Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey are achieving big hits at the opposite end of the volume register.

“I was like, well, should I just go to bed really, really late at night and start smoking?” she jokes.

“I was jealous. I was like, they’re going out, they’re partying, they’re barely cleaned up, and they’re amazing.”

That’s a contrast with the strict regime she has held herself to for much of her career.

“I was like, don’t talk, and don’t eat this, that’s too much dairy, it’s going to produce phlegm.”

She continues to joke that perhaps she will throw her classical training out of the window and adopt a new persona with a husky tone.

“How about that for a concert?” says Celine, winking at the camera.

She is managing to keep a sense of humour through her ongoing health battles.

But whatever style she chooses, fans will be extremely glad to see her back.

Taylor Swift’s music back on TikTok after dispute https://www.adomonline.com/taylor-swifts-music-back-on-tiktok-after-dispute/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 03:10:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2380644 Taylor Swift’s songs are back on TikTok following a dispute that led her label to stop licensing its content to the app.

Her music’s return on Thursday comes ahead of the release of her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Universal Music pulled songs by its artists in January, including Rihanna and Ariana Grande, citing a licensing dispute.

Many artists have complained about inadequate royalties from TikTok.

While many of her songs – including You Belong With Me and Cruel Summer – are again available for users to add to their videos, music belonging to Universal’s other artists has still not been relisted.

That may be because unlike other artists, Swift owns the copyright to her music under the terms of a 2018 deal with Universal. Some reports speculated Swift reached a separate deal with TikTok.

“Swifties” – Taylor Swift fans – took to the platform to share their delight at her music returning.

“OMG this made my whole year,” wrote verified user Jessica Golich, adding that users would “have the whole new album to play with”.

Divendra Rai recorded a video lip syncing to Cruel Summer, captioned: “Welcome back Taylor!!!”

In an open letter published on 30 January, Universal claimed that “ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music”.

Universal said it was also concerned about getting fair compensation for artists for AI-generated songs made to sound like the real thing, such as one made to sound like Drake and The Weeknd which went viral.

Swift announced her upcoming album while accepting her 13th Grammy award earlier this year.

The Tortured Poets Department, which will be released on 19 April, is her 11th album.

The BBC has contacted Universal and TikTok for comment.

You don’t need faith to do music – Bulldog https://www.adomonline.com/you-dont-need-faith-to-do-music-bulldog/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 13:42:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2325829 Artiste manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson popularly known as Bulldog says having faith is not enough to propel your songs as a musician.

According to him, working hard coupled with the right investors is the only way for an artiste to realize their potential.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Bulldog told the host Andy Dosty that faith can blind the aspirations of a musician but ‘works’ will only take them far.

“You don’t need faith to do music. The Bible even said faith without works. My emphasis is on the works. It is only works that can take you far. Faith is never enough and you do not need faith in doing music. You have to rather put in the work,” he said.

Ofori Amponsah expresses regret over writing songs for Kofi B https://www.adomonline.com/ofori-amponsah-expresses-regret-over-writing-songs-for-kofi-b/ Tue, 28 Nov 2023 19:57:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2325493 Ghanaian highlife musician, Ofori Amponsah has reiterated in a recent interview that he wished he never wrote a song for any artiste including the late highlife musician Kofi B.

Speaking to YouTuber Zionfelix, the ‘Alewa’ hit maker said that after writing songs for some people, they later showed ungratefulness to him.

“I wrote ‘Yaw Dompre’, ‘Koforidua Flowers’ and ‘Odwo’ for Kofi B. Something happened along the way so I took out ‘Odwo’. I even wanted to back take all the songs from him. They are my songs. Up till now, some people think those songs are for Kofi B but they are not his.

One thing that hurts me is giving out my songs to people. If Daddy Lumba had given me just one song, I would have been bigger than I am today,” he said.

Sharing his experience, Ofori Amponsah said when he gave ‘Yaw Dompre’ to Kofi B, he initially was reluctant to receive it because he described it as a song for ‘villagers.’ But when it was released it became a hit song.

This is not the first time Ofori Amponsah has made such a comment. In 2022, he made a similar statement on TV XYZ.

“If I can reverse everything, I will decide not to help any musician because my help was a shortcut in the careers of a lot of musicians,” he told Agyemang Prempeh.

Extoling his songwriting prowess, he noted that he wrote verses for almost all the artistes he collaborated with songs in the past except Samini.

Apart from Kofi B, other artistes Ofori Amponsah has written songs for are Kofi Nti and Barosky.

Meanwhile, Ofori Amponsah is out with a new song titled ‘Inspector.’

Akan language is the weakest when it comes to music – Mark Okraku-Mantey https://www.adomonline.com/akan-language-is-the-weakest-when-it-comes-to-music-mark-okraku-mantey/ Tue, 07 Mar 2023 19:02:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2225213 The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku-Mantey, says the Akan language amongst other languages in music production in Ghana is the weakest.

According to him, the language lacks rhythmic and tonal elements which make music more appealing.

Despite the lack of these elements, Mr Okraku-Mantey explained that the people of Akan have succeeded in promoting their language such that it appears as though they are the only tribe that could produce the best music.

This, he said is not true.

“The Akan language is the weakest. That is my perspective. Somebody could differ. The Akan language is the weakest when it comes to music.

“Unfortunately, the Akan people have pushed harder so much that it sounds as if they’re the ones who could make the best music. It’s not true,” he said.

Speaking on the Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, the Deputy Minister mentioned the Northern, Volta and the Gas as areas having the potential of overpowering Akan music.

According to him, the Akan musicians having realised the potential of these languages have always tried to incorporate them into their music in that “they can catch fire easily in terms of music.”

Why Nigeria music is breaking borders unlike Ghana – Baba Sadiq Abdulai [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/why-nigeria-music-is-breaking-borders-unlike-ghana-baba-sadiq-abdulai-video/ Mon, 06 Mar 2023 19:27:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2224888 Former president of 3 Music and parliamentary hopeful for Okaikoi Central, Baba Sadiq Abdulai, has pinpointed the only obstacle hindering music from Ghana to cross borders.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s weekend entertainment show, Showtyme with Andy Dosty, the entertainment specialist said Ghanaian musicians lack investment.

“It is an investment. It is money that can unlock machinery. Songs don’t move on their own nowadays, it’s engineered, and you will need resources and a mindset switch.”

According to him, Nigerian musicians who are performing on international platforms have “plugs” and music labels putting them on.

He said most Ghanaian musicians need music distribution labels to network their songs on various digital streaming platforms.

“People think songs can fly on their own. We have had a few examples where people put it out to blow and people think it’s always like that. That’s why in more matured markets, labels have marketing, ANR department who research song features and even producers. So it’s a whole machinery.”

He said most musicians in the US are successful because major labels do all the groundwork for them.

“That’s why in the US if any major label picks you, it’s only God that will stop you because they will use your product, and automatically it blows you. And they use a lot of money. Of all the music in the world, three companies own them. They are called mega labels and there are imprints like Universal, Sony and Warner, if they sign a Nigerian act, automatically they create a resonating effect globally,” he submitted.

In his final submission, Sadiq said “Ghana does not have a problem. It’s the investment. Either we do it on our own or wait for manna from heaven.”

Shatta Wale discovered my music career professionally – Michy [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/shatta-wale-discovered-my-music-career-professionally-michy-video/ Fri, 11 Feb 2022 16:50:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2078571 Actress, entrepreneur and musician Michelle Diamond, popularly known as Michy, has given due credit to her ex-lover dancehall musician Shatta Wale for unearthing and nurturing her music talent.

According to her, she was groomed into a professional music gem when she lived together with the ‘Ayoo’ hitmaker some few years ago.

Without mincing words, the ‘Low Tempo’ hitmaker said Shatta Wale also wrote songs for her including their Low Tempo song which has since garnered over five million views on YouTube.

I can say he discovered that part of me in a more professional way as a profession but I have always been singing at school and church, I was all about entertainment…

He wrote Low Tempo for me. I have some unreleased songs with him and I will drop them in time.

When asked why she hasn’t paid much attention to her music career, Michy said it was due to the fact that she fears how Ghanaians will welcome her craft — She wouldn’t want to be subjected to trolls.

Let’s say fear maybe.. you know how we are in this country where people are very judgemental so I want it to be perfect.

I didn’t even know I could do some things. Every time I surprise myself. I can’t even settle on songs for an EP.  That’s like the most difficult thing but this year we are dropping something.

Michy quadruples as a musician, actor, businesswoman and a law student who is currently on her LLB program. She plans to specialise in Criminal Law after the aforementioned stage.

Additionally, Michy is a cast in YN Productions’ forthcoming movie ‘The Men We Love’—and the producer, Yvonne Nelson, described her acting skill as ‘outstanding’.

Barbers banned from shaving beards, playing music in Afghanistan https://www.adomonline.com/barbers-banned-from-shaving-beards-playing-music-in-afghanistan/ Mon, 27 Sep 2021 16:29:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2020534 Barbers in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province are now prohibited from shaving men’s beards and playing music in their shops, according to a statement issued by the province’s Taliban-led department of virtue and vice.

The new regulations mark the latest in series of restrictions placed on the people of Afghanistan based on the Taliban’s strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.

“You are urgently informed that from today, shaving beards and playing music in barbershops and public baths are strictly prohibited,” the local authority said Sunday in a statement.

“If any barbershop or public bath is found to have shaved anyone’s beard or played music, they will be dealt with according to the Sharia principles and they will not have the right to complain,” the statement added.

MORE:

While the Taliban has said their rule would be milder than it was during their previous time in government, there have been numerous reports of harsh crackdowns since they seized power of the nation in August, including the detention and assault of journalists, the use of whips against women taking part in protests, and the public hanging of alleged criminals.

The group also has not allowed Afghan girls and women to resume secondary education, despite promising that female students would be allowed to study.

Afghan boys have already been called to return to school.

When last in power between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban banned women and girls from education and work and severely restricted their rights.

Today, women have been completely excluded from the country’s new, hardline government and in some instances been ordered to leave their workplaces.

Stop doing music if you don’t have money – Mr Logic [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/stop-doing-music-if-you-dont-have-money-mr-logic-video/ Wed, 22 Sep 2021 12:16:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2018714 Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Emmanuel Barnes, popularly known as Mr Logic, has advised up-and-coming musicians to quit their careers if they don’t have investors.

According to him, lots of talents have gone down the drain due to a lack of funds, adding that the music industry is more about business than entertainment.

Speaking on the Daybreak Hitz show, Mr Logic advised struggling musicians to look for money first before venturing into music.

Stop doing music if you don’t have money; it’s not about talent. Do you know how many talents have gone down the drain? How do you make money if you don’t have an investor?

The mistake we make in Ghana is that most people compare viral songs to hit songs… For songs that have been scheduled, you will blow right now… When your song is planned for rotation with media houses, watch how it will work easily.

Talking further on why Nigerians have dominated the music charts in Africa with their songs, Mr Logic said they’re business-oriented, unlike the others.

Nigerians have investors who are willing to pitch… Where did Fireboy DML and the rest come from? If you are not inclined with the online market and not ready to put down money, it won’t work, he said.

See what happens to your brain when you listen to music https://www.adomonline.com/see-what-happens-to-your-brain-when-you-listen-to-music/ Tue, 17 Aug 2021 17:28:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2002072 Your entire brain is used when you listen to music. It’s one of the few activities that do this.

Music has a way of enlightening the human brain.

Our brains have a negativity bias and will remember negative memories more than good ones. This helps us to better protect ourselves.

Convincing your brain that you slept well scams your brain into thinking it really did.

Learning new things changes your brain and increases your intelligence even if you’re older.

Your brain does more creative work when you’re tired.

Our brain responds differently to people we know. Our brain usually likes responding to people who have similar tastes and preferences and more to people we already know.

Ambidextrous and left-handed people have a corpus callosum (the part of the brain that bridges the two halves) that is 11% larger than those who are right-handed.

It takes five different parts of your brain for you to understand and laugh at a joke.

You get a song stuck in your head because your brain interprets the song as an unfinished task, especially if you only remember one part.
