Kuami Eugene names favourite Ghanaian actors, bemoans lack of local films on streaming platforms https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-names-favourite-ghanaian-actors-bemoans-lack-of-local-films-on-streaming-platforms/ Thu, 03 Jul 2025 13:54:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2551245 Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and producer Kuami Eugene has shared his favourite Ghanaian actors and actresses while expressing concern about the limited availability of local films on international streaming platforms.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM’s morning show, Daybreak Hitz, Kuami Eugene said, “I actually watch Ghanaian movies. It’s just that there isn’t much of it on Netflix or other streaming platforms. Most of them are in cinemas, and it’s quite difficult for me to go to cinemas. But I love Ghanaian movies.”

The Monica hitmaker named legendary actors Agya Koo, Santo, Lilwin, Kwaku Manu, Dr Likee, and Akrobeto as his favourite male actors. Among female actors, he mentioned Nana Ama McBrown and Vivian Jill Lawrence.

Kuami Eugene’s comments highlight a growing concern within Ghana’s film and entertainment industry. While local films enjoy strong followings in cinemas and on traditional television, their limited representation on global streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Showmax restricts their reach to wider audiences.

Many filmmakers and industry stakeholders have long called for better investment, marketing, and digital distribution strategies to improve access and visibility for Ghanaian films.

I will never talk to Archipalago – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-never-talk-to-archipalago-kuami-eugene/ Wed, 02 Jul 2025 12:34:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2550635

Ghanaian highlife artiste Kuami Eugene has expressed disappointment over recent comments made by social media personality Archipalago, who accused him of being disrespectful.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the Monica hitmaker clarified the incident and dismissed the claims.

Archipalago had earlier alleged that Kuami Eugene refused to speak to him over the phone when he tried to propose a music collaboration through a radio presenter.

“I only called to talk about a possible collaboration, but his attitude was very disrespectful. If he doesn’t want to talk, that’s fine. But he shouldn’t act like he’s above everyone,” Archipalago said in an interview.

Reacting to the accusation, Kuami Eugene said the circumstances surrounding the call were misunderstood and insisted he had no intentions of snubbing Archipalago.

“After the interview, I was going back to my hotel, and the presenter said I should drop her on the way. While we were going to drop her off, Archipalago called her that he heard I was in the studio, and that he had a song he wanted to do with me so she should give the phone to me so he talks to me. And I said I wouldn’t talk to him,” Kuami recounted.

He added that he was already on a call with his mother and didn’t appreciate the pressure to end it for an unsolicited conversation.

“He wanted me to cut the call with my mum and talk to him. And I said I wouldn’t do that. The lady even told him I was doing something so I would call back. I don’t know if he didn’t hear that well.”

Kuami Eugene further noted that Archipalago later took to social media to rant about the incident, which only widened the rift between them.

“Since then anytime he hears my issue he is angry. I pray he doesn’t get heart attack,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kuami Eugene has released a new single titled Do Better, a track that encourages reflection and personal growth.

I didn’t want to make my exit from Lynx public – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/i-didnt-want-to-make-my-exit-from-lynx-public-kuami-eugene/ Tue, 01 Jul 2025 13:31:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2550111 Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and record producer Kuami Eugene has revealed why he hesitated to publicly announce his departure from Lynx Entertainment.

In an interview with Doreen Avio, he explained that he preferred to focus on his future projects rather than dwell on his past with the label. He noted that many artistes in Ghana tend to emphasize negative experiences after leaving their record labels, but he wanted to take a different path.

“I noticed that when people leave record labels here, they often spend a lot of time talking about, sorry to say, their bad experiences rather than focusing on what they’re doing now. That’s not something I wanted to be a part of. While recording and promoting ‘Monica,’ we were still discussing my exit from Lynx Entertainment,” he said.

Kuami Eugene disclosed that talks about his departure began as far back as 2023, during the release of “Monica.” Despite the transition, he expressed deep gratitude for Lynx Entertainment’s role in his career and said he had the full support of the label’s CEO, Richie Mensah.

“It’s been a very long journey with Lynx Entertainment. They’ve played a huge role in my life. I’ve learned so much from Richie Mensah, and I’m very grateful he gave me his blessing when it was time to go. He told me, ‘Eight years, Charlie, you almost hit a decade with us,’” he shared.

Kuami Eugene also emphasized that he remains on good terms with Lynx, recently attending Richie Mensah’s book launch and continuing to receive support from his former team.

“I’m still with Lynx, like I never left. I was at Richie’s book launch just two days ago. It was a blessing to see him, hug him like the father he’s been to me. He even texted me two days ago thanking me for coming,” he stated.

He urged fans and social media users not to expect any bitterness from him, but rather to focus on enjoying his music.

“If I put out my feelings, then what? What I really want is for them to listen to ‘Belinda,’ ‘Monica,’ and the other bangers I’m giving them,” he added.

Kuami Eugene recently released a new single titled “Canopy,” a highlife-inspired song blending soulful vocals with modern rhythms. The track is already gaining traction on streaming platforms, showcasing the artiste’s evolving sound and maturity after his time with Lynx Entertainment.

Kuami Eugene expresses intense admiration for Amaarae’s talent https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-expresses-intense-admiration-for-amaaraes-talent/ Tue, 01 Jul 2025 13:23:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2550040

Ghanaian music star Kuami Eugene has praised fellow artiste Amaarae, describing her as a long-standing musical force whose extraordinary talent is only now being widely recognised by the mainstream.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio, Kuami Eugene referred to Amaarae as his “big sister” and a “legend,” expressing admiration for her consistency and unique appeal over the years.

“Amaarae is my big sister. She’s a legend, though. But the funny thing is, it has never been quiet with Amaarae. It’s just her circle… That’s where she finds herself,” he said.

He explained that Amaarae’s sound—often rooted in alternative and global influences—resonated strongly within niche audiences but remained relatively under the radar of Ghana’s mainstream music consumers.

“The people she used to appeal to were not the regular Ghanaian masses. She’s been making waves since. It’s just quite sad that people are now getting to know Amaarae. But I’m excited they’re getting to know her now because the talent she has is insane,” Kuami Eugene added.

Amaarae, known for her genre-bending sound and bold artistic style, gained international acclaim with her hit single Sad Girlz Luv Money, which charted globally and featured artists like Kali Uchis and Moliy. She has since performed on major global stages and continues to be a leading figure in the alternative African pop scene.

I am a Minister of God – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-a-minister-of-god-kuami-eugene/ Sun, 29 Jun 2025 12:25:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2549428 Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has stated that despite his mainstream success in secular music, he still considers himself a minister of God.

In an interview with Doreen Avio, the award-winning highlife artiste explained that his journey began in the church, where he was groomed both spiritually and musically. According to him, his identity as a gospel minister has not changed.

“Sometimes I see a post on social media, and somebody wants to share something—Eugene Marfo will just pop up. I’m still a minister of God, and the transition started from the church. The church taught me everything I know—how to play the piano, guitar, and everything. While I was in school, I was still doing music and playing drums for the church. I was doing music, but the push wasn’t there like I’m getting now,” he said.

Kuami Eugene also shared how a trip to the Volta Region for a gospel event played a key role in changing the course of his life and career. Invited by a friend who was a pupil teacher at the time, the trip became a turning point.

“She was a pupil teacher, and she invited me for a three-day convention with her church. I was Minister Eugene Marfo then. That was actually where I received my first pay, so shout out to that female friend of mine,” he recalled.

Following that experience, he was selected for MTN Hitmaker, where he emerged as second runner-up before being signed by Lynx Entertainment. That marked the beginning of his rise in Ghana’s music industry.

He credited God, his family, and key mentors like Richie Mensah and Eric Goka for their support in his journey.

Kuami Eugene, born Eugene Marfo, has since become one of Ghana’s most prominent musicians, known for hit songs such as Angela, Wish Me Well, Open Gate, and Monica.

He has won several awards, including Highlife Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

He is currently promoting his latest single titled Do Better.

We’ve had days where the tension was so high – Kuami Eugene on relationship with KiDi https://www.adomonline.com/weve-had-days-where-the-tension-was-so-high-kuami-eugene-on-relationship-with-kidi/ Sun, 29 Jun 2025 11:49:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2549420 Ghanaian highlife star Kuami Eugene has admitted that there were moments of tension in his relationship with fellow musician KiDi during their time together at Lynx Entertainment.

In an interview with Doreen Avio, Kuami acknowledged long-standing rumours about a strained relationship between the two, revealing that differences in personality and perspective sometimes created distance.

“There’s some truth to what you just said, actually. There’s a side of the story from the early days with Lynx Entertainment and the entire family—it was sweet because we were all coming up together. But people have different perceptions of others and how they carry themselves. KiDi’s character is very different from mine; we were two different people,” he explained.

Kuami added that while he tries to remain composed, he is also mindful of not being perceived as too soft or passive in the industry.

“I tried as much as possible to stay in the middle, but I don’t want to be too calm and lose respect. I don’t want to be too soft because, you know, when you’re too soft, people stop respecting you and may even bully you. Lynx taught me a lot, and I’ve actually loved the brotherhood with KiDi in particular. We’ve had days where the tension was so high that, sometimes, for maybe a whole year, we wouldn’t see each other—even though we were both at Lynx Entertainment,” he said.

According to him, their physical separation after moving out of the Lynx Entertainment residence also contributed to the emotional distance.

“I moved from Lynx—I left the camp and rented a place elsewhere. Later, he moved too. I had a studio in my house, and he also had one in his. Eventually, we’d only meet at events, maybe in the States or when we were traveling abroad together. The ‘always together’ phase lasted for about two or three years,” he noted.

Despite the ups and downs, Kuami Eugene expressed his admiration and goodwill towards KiDi, calling him a big brother and praying for his continued success.

“I actually love and respect KiDi as a big brother. Every single good thought he’s had about me, I appreciate it as a brother. I wish him expansion all the time. Anytime I see his posts on social media, I include them in my prayers—that his songs blow up. Because when we all succeed, it brings glory to Lynx Entertainment, and that’s what I pray for. You can’t do much to change people’s narratives, but I respect and love KiDi so much as a big brother,” he said.

Kuami Eugene and KiDi, both signed by Lynx Entertainment, have collaborated on several successful songs, including Spiritual and Ohemaa.

The duo have also performed together at major events both in Ghana and abroad, solidifying their status as two of the most influential voices in Ghana’s contemporary music scene.

Slow down small, my dollar reserves all dey go waste – Kuami Eugene tells Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/slow-down-small-my-dollar-reserves-all-dey-go-waste-kuami-eugene-tells-mahama/ Thu, 29 May 2025 09:08:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2539722 Ghanaian highlife artiste Kuami Eugene has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to slow down the rapid appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.

In a social media post, Kuami Eugene humorously expressed concern that the strengthening cedi is depleting the value of his dollar savings.

“We beg Pres. John Mahama for slow down small, my dollar reserves all dey go waste,” he wrote.

Despite his concerns, the musician also acknowledged the positive impact of the currency’s strong performance.

“I’m happy and sad at the same time,” he added.

Meanwhile, celebrated Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has commended President Mahama for stabilising the local currency.

In a Facebook post on May 28, 2025, the actor urged Ghanaians to recognise and appreciate the President’s efforts in improving the value of the cedi.

“Mr. President, I must congratulate you on the strengthening of the Ghana cedi on the world market. Ayekoo,” he wrote.

Commenting on various theories being suggested for the currency’s rebound, Van Vicker added: “The true reason could be a consolidation of two or more of—whatever—theories, but be that as it may, the fact remains that the Ghana cedi is approximately GH¢11 to $1 today. It was approximately GH¢17 to $1 a few months ago.”

He also criticised those, particularly Ghanaians living abroad, who appear unhappy about the cedi’s appreciation, suggesting such sentiments are self-centered.

“This is not a political statement. It is an acknowledgement of a good job done so far. Call a spade a spade. Give credit to whom credit is due,” he stated.

In response to concerns that the cedi’s gains may not last, Van Vicker expressed optimism.

“I think the current cedi orbit is remarkable for Ghana as a country, and I am optimistic it’s sustainable. Your Excellency JM, if you can take us back to 2007, heerrrh like e go be ‘kerker’,” he added playfully.

Kuami Eugene to donate revenue from his rendition of ‘Awoo Mawugné’ to Omar B’s family https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-to-donate-revenue-from-his-rendition-of-awoo-mawugne-to-omar-bs-family/ Thu, 03 Apr 2025 15:39:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2521388 Ghanaian artiste and music producer Kuami Eugene has paid tribute to the late Togolese music legend Omar B, known privately as Ahiangban Omar.

In honoring the fallen legend, Kuami Eugene has released a rendition of Omar B’s classic hit song, Awoo Mawugné.

According to Kuami Eugene, a friend introduced him to Omar B’s music, recognizing their shared creative ability to write, sing, and produce. Intrigued, Kuami Eugene began to inquire more about Omar B and discovered that the artist passed away during a time when his career was flourishing, leaving behind a young family.

In light of this, Kuami Eugene decided to create a rendition of Awoo Mawugné, a song that had been on his heart, and donate the revenue generated to Omar B’s family.

“After I got the translation of the song from some friends, I realized he had put together some powerful lyrics, so I decided to do a rendition in his honor,” Kuami Eugene shared.

The Rockstar emphasized that the tribute is “not for profit. It’s purely out of love and respect. I have no intention of exploiting this work. All revenues generated from this upload will go directly to Omar B’s family.”

Kuami Eugene expressed his hope that the song will generate significant views and revenue for Omar B’s family.

Omar B, known for his ingenuity and meteoric rise, became a role model and an inspiration to Togo’s young talents. While his third album, Me, Myself and I, was released in 2019, Omar B tragically passed away suddenly on February 20, 2020, at the age of 35, due to a heart attack.

Kuami Eugene questioned their relevance in the industry, dismissing their songs as mere gym tracks.

He added that he is focused on releasing a high-quality song this Saturday, which coincides with his birthday, emphasizing that his music is tailored for quality listeners.

After the release, he promised to revisit the saga and engage DopeNation in the drama they desire.

The back-and-forth has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some supporting Kuami Eugene’s stance while others calling for reconciliation between the artists.

DopeNation throws heavy shade at Kuami Eugene over exit from Lynx https://www.adomonline.com/dopenation-throws-heavy-shade-at-kuami-eugene-over-exit-from-lynx/ Tue, 28 Jan 2025 11:47:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2497868 Music duo DopeNation has taken a long-awaited jab at Kuami Eugene following his recent departure from the Lynx Entertainment record label.

This comes after a statement Kuami Eugene made four years ago when DopeNation exited the label.

At the time, Kuami Eugene expressed relief over their exit, saying it meant more resources for himself and label mate KiDi. He was quoted in an interview with Joy News, “I’m glad that now, what we shared among four boys will now be shared among two boys. They can take the exit.”

Though DopeNation did not publicly respond at the time, the twin artistes have now found their voice.

Taking to social media, they cheekily reminded Kuami Eugene of his past comments, further wishing him success in overcoming what some fans refer to as the “Lynx Curse”—a belief that artists who leave the label struggle to maintain their careers.

Kuami Eugene has yet to address the remarks, which have sparked varied reactions on social media.

In an interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Richie Mensah responded to a question about Kuami Eugene’s status with the record label.

Asked if Kuami Eugene was no longer with Lynx, he replied: “Yes, that’s public knowledge.”

His comment confirms that Kuami Eugene had exited Lynx Entertainment after being signed for eight years.

In October 2024, Kuami Eugene dispelled rumours that he had left Lynx Entertainment.

According to him, if he were to leave Lynx, both he and the record label would release an official statement to that effect.

“People are so impatient on social media. If there was an official exit like everyone is talking about, I’ve not put anything out, Lynx has not put anything out, and people are just trying to end our contract for us.

“At the end of the day, if we are close to the point where we feel like ‘okay, Kuami is no longer with Lynx and he is done’, we will put it out for everyone to know,” he said.

In the meantime, Richie has revealed that the artistes currently signed to Lynx Entertainment include KiDi, DJ Vyrusky, and DSL.

Some musicians who have worked with Lynx in the past include Eazzy, O.J Blaq, Zigi, Asem, and Irene Logan.

I learnt everything I know in music from the church – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/i-learnt-everything-i-know-in-music-from-the-church-kuami-eugene/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 16:55:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475939 Kuami Eugene has expressed his gratitude to the church for playing a pivotal role in his growth as an artist. According to the highlife musician, he developed his musical talent by learning how to play various instruments while growing up in church.

“The church made me. I learned everything I know from the church. When I was young, I knew I would become a great musician, so I told myself I should prepare well before reaching the top. I prepared a lot, so I could play every musical instrument I laid my hands on. No one taught me how to play the piano; I just started playing because I had been around it for a long time,” he shared with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.

Kuami added that in addition to the piano, he also plays the trumpet, drums, and guitar.

To enhance his performance, Kuami mentioned that he learned how to do a backflip.

The ‘Angela’ hitmaker also discussed how he has honed his skills in music production, mentioning that he took a course in the field.

Kuami Eugene began his music career as a gospel artist through the Eugene Marfo Ministries. He produced a few gospel songs before gaining widespread recognition after his big break in the MTN Hitmaker contest.

Although he no longer identifies as a gospel artist, Kuami still maintains a strong connection to the church and collaborates with several gospel musicians. He has written songs for artists like Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, and has a song with Obaapa Christy.

In addition, Kuami frequently performs gospel songs at church events and services.

I’m not ready to sign any artiste to my record label – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-ready-to-sign-any-artiste-to-my-record-label-kuami-eugene/ Mon, 25 Nov 2024 12:32:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475432 Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has said in a recent interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that, even though he now has his own record label, he is not yet welcoming other musicians.

According to him, Rockstar Records will only handle the affairs of the Kuami Eugene brand for the time being, until he matures and gains a firm footing in the industry before signing on other acts.

“The Kuami Eugene brand is a handful. Even as a single artiste, it’s not been easy. So adding someone now, I don’t think it’s advisable. But maybe in the future, I will ask Richie if he thinks I should start signing people, but I don’t think I will do it now. I have so much to do as Kuami Eugene myself,” he told the host Kwame Dadzie.

He noted that before he ventures into signing other artistes, he would have to fill bigger auditoriums and make greater exploits.

“I should do maybe a 20,000 capacity event, I should have my own Rockstar show, and this is the first time I am coming up with Let the Kids Come to Kuami Eugene. I am doing all these things to cement myself in the music industry, and if I get closer, I will start working with other people as well,” he noted.

Kuami further mentioned that even though some of his colleagues have approached him to sign them onto his record label, he declined.

“They think I have a lot of studios, there’s money to shoot something for them, and I have connections. I’ve made some calls for people to play their songs for them, so sometimes when things go wrong, they think they can get results when they come to me,” he said.

Asked how far he had gone with the structures of the label, he replied, “So much. We even have reps in the UK and USA as well. I just signed my contract with Ditto Music, and that one is under Rockstar Records.”

According to Kuami, Richie of Lynx Entertainment has given him permission to start his own enterprise, and he [Kuami] wants to break the jinx and narrative of artistes’ careers taking a nosedive after parting ways with their managements or record labels.

In the meantime, Kuami has released an all-stars peace song and two other songs: Problem and Show Down.

Sounding like Kuami Eugene on ‘Watch Me’ takes nothing away from me – Empress Gifty https://www.adomonline.com/sounding-like-kuami-eugene-on-watch-me-takes-nothing-away-from-me-empress-gifty/ Tue, 05 Nov 2024 22:15:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468851 Empress Gifty is not worried about comments that she sounds like Kuami Eugene on her latest track, ‘Watch Me’.

While some have suggested the gospel minstrel’s vocal delivery and voice texture bear strong likeness to Kuami Eugene’s, Empress believes there is nothing wrong with that.

When she played guest to aKorfa on Joy FM‘s ‘Ignition’, she said it was deliberate for her to sound like Eugene on the record.

“Kuami Eugene did not sing anything in that song. It’s because I recorded in Kuami Eugene’s studio and Kuami Eugene had everything, he had already composed everything. He has the template when it comes to him.

So I said I didn’t want to sound like Empress. I wanted something different. So I did the backing, I did everything,” she told aKorfa.

She added that Kuami directed the whole recording process and she was humble to listen to him “because he carries something and if you want to tap into somebody’s blessing you need to humble yourself.”

When asked if it doesn’t take anything away from her, she replied: “nothing! I am here. That is ‘Watch Me’. I am here talking about ‘Watch Me’ so it doesn’t take anything. The most important thing is that Kuami wrote the song and I delivered,” she said.

‘Watch Me’, a gospel song delivered in highlife vein talks about the power of God to change unpleasant situations in people’s lives.

It was written, arranged and produced by Kuami Eugene.

Kuami Eugene, appearing dissatisfied with the host’s question, responded that the answer he could provide would hold no moral lesson or significant value.

He questioned the relevance of the inquiry, asking the host what he would do with such information if he were to provide an answer.

“My relationship with him backstage is of no value to anybody. Whether we fought or not, whether we were cool or not, I will forever regard him as a legend in my life,” Kuami Eugene stated.

After being pressed for a response, he emphasized that Amakye Dede has always been an inspiration to him.

Given the significant age difference, he remarked that he would never be involved in any tussle with the Highlife icon.

The host’s question came in light of Amakye Dede’s previous interview, where the legendary musician revealed that he felt pressured to crown Kuami Eugene as his successor on the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) stage.

He revealed he was handed the crown shortly before going on stage for his performance and given a directive to hype Kuami Eugene.

Though Kuami Eugene has yet to directly address those claims, his response suggests that his respect and admiration for Amakye Dede remain unshaken, regardless of any backstage dynamics.

I don’t have a problem with Kuami Eugene’s ‘Highlife King’ accolade – Kwabena Kwabena https://www.adomonline.com/i-dont-have-a-problem-with-kuami-eugenes-highlife-king-accolade-kwabena-kwabena/ Thu, 04 Jul 2024 22:46:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2417945 Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has stated he is not worried about the ‘highlife king’ status that was conferred on Kuami Eugene during the 2019 Ghana Music Awards.

Asked if his decision not to be involved with the award scheme stems from the Kuami Eugene crowing moment, he answered in the negative.

Kwabena Kwabena who has resolved not to take part in the TGMA again said in an interview with DJ Slim

“As a matter of fact, I didn’t have any issue with what the legend Amakye Dede did and with time he has come to speak to what actually transpired and everything that happened around the whole ceremony.

And for me, I am an artiste, I enjoy music. I don’t care about who is king or who is queen or who is a linguist. I only care about the art and its beauty. Kwame Eugene is a fine artiste and he has done some really great pieces out there. He is exciting and all of that. I can’t have a problems with the fact that Nana Amakye decided to crown him. I don’t have a problem with that,” he said.

In 2023, highlife legend Amakye Dede said in an interview on Asaase Radio that he was forced to confer the said title on Kuami Eugene during the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after the latter had won the Highlife Artiste of the Year award.

“Although I did that [crowned him], it was not my will to do that but they forced me to crown the boy. That’s the reason I did that,” he said.

“Even the crown they gave to me to put on his head, I gave it to someone to place it somewhere. But later, they gave it back to me to adorn him with it,” Amakye Dede further stated in the interview.

This is the first time Amakye Dede has passed a comment on this matter even though his manager Kwasi Aboagye of Peace FM gave the same explanation when the incident happened in 2019.

In one of Kwasi’s reports, he intimated that Kiki Banson, a member of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Board and a coordinator of the event at the time, was the one that asked Amakye Dede to carry out the exercise on Kuami Eugene.

For a lot of people, Kuami Eugene, although a hardworking and promising highlife artiste, was not ripe for the crown. They considered the act as premature and injurious to the future of the burgeoning highlife musician.

Speaking to JoyNews, Kuami Eugene refuted the rumours that the act was planned, adding that, it rather served as a blessing to him.

Latest update on doctor ‘suspended’ over Kuami Eugene’s accident https://www.adomonline.com/latest-update-on-doctor-suspended-over-kuami-eugenes-accident/ Mon, 25 Mar 2024 19:37:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2373027 The Vice President of Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Prof Dr Ernest Yorke, has disclosed that the supposed doctor who disclosed Kuami Eugene’s health status on social media after his accident is an imposter.

According to him, after investigations, the GMA did not find any Dr Amina Haarun on the record of the University of Ghana Medical School where Kuami Eugene was hospitalised.

Additionally, she is not on the roll of doctors of the regulators, The Medical and Dental Council, nor is she registered with the GMA, Prof Yorke noted on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on Monday.

He said that “she belongs to none of these institutions and therefore we can say she is not a medical doctor.

“So, quite clearly it looks like an imposter who is pretending to be a doctor and seeking to malign doctors and put the name of the profession into disrepute.”

Highlighting the red flags, Prof Yorke said that the designation Doctor of Medicine she has in her Twitter bio is not a regular title a practising doctor uses in this country.

He added “…then a psychologist and therapist, which therapist? even the language suggest that she does not know what she is saying.”

This comes after Amina Haarun apologised for comments she made on social media following the hospitalisation of musician Kuami Eugene.

She had posted on social media a health update saying the singer’s condition was not looking good and called on the public to pray for the artiste.

But, in a press release shared on social media, the lady apologised for violating the code of ethics and added that her medical licence had been suspended for three months.

However, Prof Yorke said that the only institution that can suspend the license of a medical practitioner is the regulator, The Medical and Dental Council.

The Consultant Physician at the University Ghana Medical School stated that the council had not been notified of any such case.

“This tells you that somebody set out to deceive the public and malign the noble profession. I will call on the police to investigate so that the misinformation and mischaracterisation will be corrected,” Prof Yorke added.

Lynx Entertainment gives update on Kuami Eugene’s health after N1 accident https://www.adomonline.com/lynx-entertainment-gives-update-on-kuami-eugenes-health-after-n1-accident/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 15:31:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2370112 Ghanaian music star, Kuami Eugene, who was involved in a car accident on the N1 Highway, is undergoing medical treatment, his management team, Lynx Entertainment has said.

The news comes as a relief to fans and well-wishers who were deeply concerned about the artiste’s well-being following reports of collision with a tipper truck.

Kuami Eugene, known for his chart-topping hits and electrifying performances, sustained injuries along with one passenger during the incident.

A statement released by Lynx Entertainment reassured the public of Kuami Eugene’s condition, stating that he is responding well to treatment.

“We wish to inform the public that singer Kuami Eugene is alive and currently receiving treatment following a car crash on Sunday, March 17, 2024,” the statement read. “Our artiste sustained some injuries together with one passenger but currently responding to treatment.”

The statement also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from fans, media outlets, and the general public.

However, Lynx Entertainment emphasized the need for privacy and space for Kuami Eugene as he begins his recovery process.

“We appreciate the outpour of love from fans, media, and the general public, but we plead the artiste is given much space at this moment as he begins his recovery,” the statement concluded.

Nonetheless, Kuami Eugene, sustained injuries on Sunday night after ramming his car into a tipper truck. The accident occurred at CP, close to the DSTV office towards the Dzorwulu traffic light in Accra.

According to the Editor for Modern Ghana news portal, Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri who was right behind the musician’s car when the accident happened around 11:30 pm, the tipper truck was in motion but moving slowly when the musician crashed into it from behind.

He believes the accident occurred because the N1 highway is dark due to poor lighting, while the tipper truck also lacked tail light worsening visibility.

He told Myjoyonline.com that he only noticed it was the musician in the car with one male passenger when he went closer to offer assistance.

“I was behind him, and so I was the first person to rush to his rescue. Kwame was struggling to come out so I brought him out of the car and helped the passenger too, before some guys also came around. I arranged for a vehicle to convey them to the UGMC hospital.”

He explained that the tipper truck was in motion but moving slowly when the musician crashed into it from behind.

He believes the accident occurred because the N1 highway is dark due to poor lighting, while the tipper truck also lacked tail light worsening visibility.

The male passenger did not appear to have any physical injury, but told nurses at the UGMC Hospital that he felt pains in his neck and back.

Ajarfor also says he called in police officers from the Achimota Police Station to the scene who towed his car.

“He’s fine. He had a broken arm with blood all over his hands. The car is badly damaged and all the airbags were out. He could have died”he said.

My family is my ultimate priority – Kuami Eugene on why he does not buy expensive clothes https://www.adomonline.com/my-family-is-my-ultimate-priority-kuami-eugene-on-why-he-does-not-buy-expensive-clothes/ Wed, 06 Dec 2023 15:26:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2328689 Highlife musician, Kuami Eugene has explained why he does not buy expensive clothes.

According to him, it is a deliberate attempt to secure a better future for his family.

Kuami Eugene’s comment is in responses to critics questioning his fashion sense.

In a recent TikTok live session with Nana Donkor Arthur, the 2020 VGMA Artiste of the Year said ensuring a better life and well-being of his family is of utmost importance to him than an extravagant lifestyle.

“Even when I released Angela, we were still suffering. I was still taking ‘trotro’ during that time. It was after my first UK show I started seeing big money. We have to change the family with the money first before I will start changing my lifestyle. I didn’t want people to see me like that. Even though my family of six has changed since I became Kuami Eugene, I will make sure everyone in my family is okay before I begin to spend my money lavishly” he said.

Kuami Eugene expressed satisfaction with his lifestyle choices and urged critics to consider them before passing judgment.

“Now my mum owns a house and rides her car, we were sleeping in a box at Kaneshie but now things have changed. All my siblings now have their cars. Now everyone is living well so even if I’m enjoying my life now, they understand because I have built up my family well. I am just hoping that before you attack someone, think about the person’s situation.”

I deserve to be crowned VGMA Songwriter of the Year – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/i-deserve-to-be-crowned-vgma-songwriter-of-the-year-kuami-eugene/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 19:08:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2326000 Rockstar, Kuami Eugene believes he deserves to be honored as the VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) Songwriter of the Year due to his accomplishments in the music industry.

In his view, he is overqualified for that category since he owes lyrical credit to a lot of hit songs by many musicians including MzVee, Adina, Keche, Joyce Blessing, among others.

Despite numerous accolades and awards from VGMA including Artiste of the Year, Eugene is yet to secure the songwriter category.

He mentioned factors such as the Academy and Board’s decision as reason the award goes to Kinaata, Akwaboah and not him.

The Rockstar elaborated that, the judges might be influenced by certain preferences in how a songwriter should sound or what the song content should convey, which might differ from his style.

Eugene said his approach to songwriting often focus on creating hits than crafting the best lyrics and rhymes.

Confident in his abilities, Kuami Eugene hopes to break barriers by becoming the first artiste to clinch Songwriter of the Year, Producer of the Year and Artiste of the Year simultaneously.

Mzbel wades into Kuami Eugene’s saga with maid https://www.adomonline.com/mzbel-wades-into-kuami-eugenes-saga-with-maid/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 10:59:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2325711 Legendary songstress, Mzbel has added her voice to the ongoing controversy about Kuami Eugene and his maid over salary issues.

Eugene’s maid, Mary has gone public with allegations that she was being paid a meager GH¢ 400 monthly for her services in the house of the acclaimed rockstar.

“He (Kuami Eugene) paid me GH¢400 monthly when I started and increased it by GH¢100 after every year. But after I explained why I was late, he gave me two options, either to go back to my parents or he gives me GH¢400 so I choose the money.”

She also claimed she has developed health complications from the mistreatment she endured in the house of the musician.

Reacting to this, Mzbel opined that, what Eugene needed was a nanny not a maid.

When dragged by some Ghanaians, she explained that, Kuami Eugene needs an elderly woman who will act as a mother figure and not young girls who will give him problems.

Others have also urged celebrities to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement with their domestic staff to protect their privacy.

In a recent interview with MX24 TV, Kuami Eugene noted that many of his critics assume he is arrogant because he proudly talks about his achievements during interviews.

The Angela hit-maker said that he will continue to stay true to himself and not kowtow to unwarranted demands from people.

“At the end of the day, I feel if I sugarcoat just to please you, I’m not pleasing myself. I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I’m living my whole life for other people. So if it’s an offence to be me, then it’s cool.

“I know that in the industry I find myself in, you have to be seen to be meek. You come to interviews and you are asked how many awards you have, you say it and someone is mad in their house. They want you to present yourself as solemn; solemn means being humble, being humble means being meek, and being meek means being down there.

“Because if you’re very confident that means you feel you are up there. And we hate to see people at the top,” he explained.

Over the weekend, Kuami Eugene has been in the news following revelation from his former house help, Mary that he paid her 400 cedis and later sacked her after returning home late from an errand.

Mary’s disclosure started a conversation on social media on the appropriate payment for house helps.

“There should be a change. Things are not running like they used to be. I think it is one beautiful one thing that has changed that I am actually glad about.

Now I have my own YouTube account and I have over 70,000 subscribers already. I am sure by December I will hit like 100,000 subscribers. I appreciate every support that is coming in but I love that movement. It is just beautiful to wake up and see this is mine; this is the property that is in my hand one day,” he told the host Kuami Dadzie.

Kuami who is out with his new album titled ‘Love & Chaos’ noted that both Lynx and Empire have a stake in his career.

He mentioned that, even though Lynx’s control over his works has reduced after Empire came on board, the company still plays a crucial role in his music business.

He cited how both labels contributed to selecting songs for his current album.

“It’s the vibe from each side; there is a Kuami Eugene vibe, there is what Lynx wants as a record label and there is what Empire wants as a bigger record label as well so the three of us have to come together; myself as a creative and the two of these bodies,” he noted.

Kuami Eugene explains why he now uses more English in his songs  https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-explains-why-he-now-uses-more-english-in-his-songs/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 14:00:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2312215 Kuami Eugene has revealed that his deal with Empire record label requires that he sticks to a particular style of music.

He told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM‘s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday that they require he does more English in his songs and to also ensure the songs he puts out can be appreciated by a majority of music consumers.

“It’s the vibe from each side; there is a Kuami Eugene vibe, there is what Lynx wants as a record label and there is what Empire wants as a bigger record label as well, you understand. So the three of us have to come together; myself as a creative and the two of these bodies,” he noted.

According to him, the two labels allow him to do songs he wants to do, and then they pick what they think fits the market.

Kuami Eugene disclosed that, he presented about 40 songs to his labels and they settled on the 13 he has released for his Love & Chaos album.

He also mentioned that, his sound has changed because he has grown as an artiste.

When asked if his handlers are particular about the language he uses in his songs, he replied: “very”, stressing that they also put more premium on English language.

“It about the understanding. How people can understand what you are talking about it so they can buy into it. And you know that the songs that are making big waves out there are the songs that are English language influence so you have to put a percentage of that vibe in there,” he explained.

The ‘Angela’ hitmaker said there is a collaboration between Empire and Lynx which gives him a smooth running of his music business.

Stop feeling insecure – Mr Logic tells Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/stop-feeling-insecure-mr-logic-tells-kuami-eugene/ Wed, 25 Oct 2023 14:41:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2309919 Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Emmanuel Barnes, popularly known as Mr. Logic, has called on Kuami Eugene not to feel insecure.

According to him, Eugene is a big brand and his songs will do well even if it is not played on the airwaves consistently.

“I think Kuami is a huge brand; he should stay confident. People love him and play his songs. He feels like he is losing his grip, it’s a feeling of insecurity for me,” He stated.

Mr. Logic made the comment while reacting to Kwame Eugene’s call for the passage of Broadcast Bill.

The Bill aims to increase the playing of Ghanaian music on the airwaves, but it has raised concerns among industry professionals.

Kuami Eugene, the ‘Rockstar’ himself, has voiced his support for the bill, advocating for unity among entertainers in the fight for its passage.

He believes that 70 percent of Ghanaian music should be played to reduce the influx of foreign content in the country.

Mr. Logic, while partially agreeing with Kuami Eugene’s perspective, asserted that the legislation should not dictate what DJs play at events.

“We can have the agenda to play Ghana music, but then coming from a huge artiste like Kuami Eugene is something else” he stressed.

He emphasized the need for artistes to rather engage DJs to promote their songs, than relying solely on the passage of the Bill.

Kuami Eugene sparks debate with latest proposal https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-sparks-debate-with-latest-proposal/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 15:11:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2309457 Highlife and Afrobeat singer, Kuami Eugene is advocating for a law that will ensure 70 percent of Ghanaian songs are played on radio stations.

According to him, such measure is essential to curb the dominance of foreign music and also promote Ghana music both locally and on the global stage.

In a interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Kuami Eugene said “we should say, this 2024, we have to do 70 percent Ghana music and let’s see what will happen”.

His proposal has been welcomed by music industry players who it see as a potential catalyst for the growth of the domestic music.

Kuami Eugene is not the first artiste to advocate for a policy promoting the patronage of Ghanaian music. Other musician and industry players have made similar calls on government.

In neighbouring countries like Nigeria, is similar policy is being implemented. Nigerian radio stations are required to play a certain percentage of Nigerian music, which has contributed to the growth and global recognition of the country’s music.

Kuami Eugene’s proposal raises essential questions about how to strike a balance between promoting local culture and preserving artistic freedom.

Mr Drew has given me my percentage – Kuami Eugene https://www.adomonline.com/mr-drew-has-given-me-my-percentage-kuami-eugene/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 15:04:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2307755 Musician, Kuami Eugene has disclosed that Mr. Drew has fulfilled his financial obligation of his contribution to the song, ‘Case’.

The ‘Rockstar’ had revealed that, he wrote about eighty percent of Mr. Drew’s song, ‘Case’ but the latter failed to acknowledge his input.

However, in a interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Eugene said Mr Drew has gotten in touch with him and given him his due.

“He didn’t know that if you put music out there without the consent of the one that wrote it, it’s illegal so I won’t blame him. He is a brother and I am glad he learned and he hit me up right after everything. He has given me my percentage,” he noted.

Kuami Eugene said he writes songs for other artistes because he cannot sing all the songs he produces, especially when he notices a particular song fits the style of another artiste.

“It’s just a blessing that you write songs for people to sing even though I get paid for it” he stated.

Some artistes Kuami Eugene has written songs for are: Kuame Yogot, Keche, MzVee, and Joyce Blessing.

I want to set an example with Mr Drew – Kuami Eugene [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/i-want-to-set-an-example-with-mr-drew-kuami-eugene-video/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 15:44:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2307155 Ghanaian Afrobeats and highlife singer, Kuami Eugene says he wants to set an example out of the copyright issues he has with colleague singer, Mr Drew.

Earlier, the Lynx signee disclosed that, he wrote 90 percent of Mr Drew’s hit song, ‘Case’.

Opening up on how that collaboration came about, Kuami Eugene said “it was a conversation between our management, and we decided to do it, that is how everything came about,”

However, Mr Drew released the song without Kuami Eugene’s knowledge and he [Eugene] has vowed not to let it slide.

According to Kuami Eugene, he deserves 50 percent of the song’s royalties hence Mr Drew must do the needful by splitting the revenue.

“The software saved all the details of the song and it was 2020. I did it Highlife and Afrobeat but now he has added touches of Amapiano. I won’t blame him in any way, but my only problem was you cannot ship something to Ghana with someone and say we are selling on Sunday, only for you to sell on Saturday without communicating,” he told host Jerry Justice.

“His management has also denied knowing about it. If I had not expressed myself, he wouldn’t have said a word. Technically I own 50 per cent of that song and he ignored me. He is older than me but I am not little” he fumed.

Kuami Eugene said he has forgiven some industry players in the past, but with Mr Drew, he has to set an example out of him to prevent potential cases in the future.

“Some people have done the same thing to me and I left it to God. Those people they are seniors in the game and I couldn’t argue with them. I am still young and can’t fight about anything [but] I think I need to set an example with Drew,” he said.

Kuami Eugene is currently promoting his new 13-track album dubbed ‘Love and Chaos”.

Kuami Eugene opens up on writing ‘Victory’ song for Joyce Blessing [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-opens-up-on-writing-victory-song-for-joyce-blessing-video/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 14:35:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2307272 Ghanaian singer, Kuami Eugene says he doesn’t see anything wrong with writing a song for a gospel musician as a secular artiste.

This was after Joyce Blessing disclosed how the Rockstar wrote her latest ‘Victory’ hit song for her.

She also revealed that, Kuami Eugene dashed her the song relinquishing all the royalties due him.

Joyce Blessing added that, the highlife music star also helped her to direct the music video without taking a dime.

Reacting to this on Adom FM’s drive time show, Ofie Kwanso, Kwame Eugene said he was touched by the plight to Joyce Blessing.

According to him, the gospel musician has faced a lot of backlash on social media in the past hence he would rather she enjoy her moment.

“There are so many things involved, and I don’t think Joyce came out to say it because of my recent outburst with Mr Drew. I don’t want to come on air to talk about Joyce Blessing’s success. She is enjoying some good buzz and I don’t want to take that shine. She is a good person and deserves that” Kuami Eugene told Ofie Kwanso show host, Jerry Justice.

Kuami Eugene is currently promoting his new album, Love and Chaos.

I wrote Mr Drew’s hit song ‘Case’ – Kuami Eugene reveals [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/i-wrote-mr-drews-hit-song-case-kuami-eugene-reveals-video/ Wed, 27 Sep 2023 15:54:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2298850 In a recent revelation Lynx Entertainment signee, Kuami Eugene, says he wrote Mr Drew’s chart-topping hit song, “Case.”

The news comes as a surprise to many fans who have been jamming to the catchy tune, but according to Kuami Eugene, he has not received due credit and payment for his contributions.

In an interview with Naana Donkor Arthur, Kuami Eugene disclosed that he penned the song’s infectious hook and a substantial part of the second verse.

Additionally, he claimed to have written approximately 80 per cent of the song, even stating that the song was almost completed before Mr Drew’s involvement.

“Mr Drew’s song, ‘Case,’ I wrote the hook and some part of the second verse. I wrote like 80 per cent of that song. In fact, before he came to record the song, that hook and everything was already done; he heard it and sang it back. So, I do writing for other artists as well,” Kuami Eugene stated.

However, what seemed like a revelation soon took a sour turn as Kuami Eugene expressed his disappointment in not receiving the acknowledgment he believes he deserves.

According to him, he felt compelled to address the issue publicly due to the success of the song.

“It’s quite unfortunate that this is the platform I have to send a message to Mr Drew to prompt him to do what he needs to do because the song is doing good. That hook is great. If I had sung it by myself, it would have still been a hit song because I wrote that song thinking about ‘Wish Me Well,'” he lamented.

Kuami Eugene also emphasized the importance of recognizing talent in the entertainment industry, asserting that proper credit is essential for the growth and respect of artists.

“He’s a brother. I wish we could appropriate where credit is due in the industry and give respect so we can move on as individuals,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the news of Kuami Eugene working together with Mr Drew in a studio has surprised many because the duo were not seeing eye-to-eye in the past.

They took to social media to jab each other after Mr Drew accused Kuami Eugene of stealing one of his songs.
