In a post shared on social media, Mr Awuku expressed deep concern over the incidents of “chaos, intimidation, and violence” during the poll, warning that such conduct is dangerous for Ghana’s democratic progress.

“Politics should never be reduced to chaos,” he wrote. “But let me also say this: the NDC, particularly the Mahama-led administration, has no moral right to speak about Ayawaso West Wuogon or Techiman South after yesterday’s happenings.”

The MP accused the NDC of hypocrisy, citing the party’s silence over alleged misconduct by individuals believed to be aligned with its ranks.

“That selective outrage is loud and it is shameful,” he charged.

He also aimed at civil society organisations, faith-based leaders, and the National Peace Council, criticizing what he termed their “noisy silence” in the aftermath of the violence.

Despite the tensions, Mr Awuku struck a hopeful tone for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging party faithful to rise above the disappointment and internal frustration.

“The time to nag should be over,” he declared. “It’s time to rebuild, energize the base, and reconnect with our people,” he added.

Announcing his return to active media engagement, beginning with Peace FM on Monday, he promised to be more vocal in support of the party’s reorganization and future direction.

“To my NPP folks: Let us psyche ourselves… When [the party] is torn, it shall be mended; when broken, it shall be fixed; and when destroyed, it shall be rebuilt,” he stated.

In a conciliatory gesture, the MP extended an apology to upper and middle-class voters disappointed by recent developments, assuring them that the party is listening and intends to learn from its mistakes.

With his rallying cry, “We’ve done it before. We’ll do it again”, Mr Awuku set the tone for a new phase of political regrouping, even as tensions linger from the events in Ablekuma North.

Sammi Awuku blames poor officiating for rising hooliganism in Ghana football https://www.adomonline.com/sammy-awuku-blames-poor-officiating-for-rising-hooliganism-in-ghana-football/ Wed, 19 Feb 2025 16:02:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506425 Akuapem North Member of Parliament, Samuel Awuku, has attributed the growing hooliganism in Ghana football to poor officiating.

His comments come weeks after the tragic stabbing of a Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, to death.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the former Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) stressed that while tackling football-related violence is crucial, the role of refereeing cannot be ignored.

“You cannot separate acts of vandalism, hooliganism, and fan riots from poor officiating. Across the world, whenever you see clashes among fans, a controversial refereeing decision is often at the heart of it,” Awuku stated.

He urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Referees Association to recognize football’s transformation into a commercial industry, where fair and transparent officiating is essential.

“Football today is not just about entertainment; it’s a business. These acts of hooliganism are despicable, and it’s time we move beyond lip service. Law enforcement agencies must step up and ensure the law is enforced,” he added.

In the wake of Nana Pooley’s death, the Ghana Premier League has been temporarily suspended.

Vote for hope, not nightclub shifts – Sammy Awuku urges Ghanaians https://www.adomonline.com/vote-for-hope-not-nightclub-shifts-sammy-awuku-urges-ghanaians/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 18:44:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479840 The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammy Awuku, has described the 2024 general elections as a choice between hope and despair, urging voters to choose hope.

Speaking at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) final rally at the University of Ghana Sports Park on December 5, Awuku expressed confidence in the next NPP government, led by presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to deliver on key promises such as job creation, enhancing the free Senior High School (SHS) programme, and ensuring financial stability for citizens.

He encouraged Ghanaians to vote decisively for the NPP in the upcoming election on Saturday.

“The election before us is an election between hope and hopelessness. It’s a contest between the future and the past. The election before us is a destiny vote. The free SHS, job creation, and money in the pockets of the youth are number one on the ballot paper. Don’t play with your destiny, vote wisely. This election is not about a fake promise of offering you three chicks or running shifts at a nightclub. No, not at all. This election is about your future” Awuku declared.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held its final rally at Zurak Park in Madina, as both major parties wrap up their campaigns ahead of the decisive vote.

How did we get here? – Sammi Awuku questions Asiedu Nketia’s directive to NDC MPs to boycott parliament [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/how-did-we-get-here-sammi-awuku-questions-asiedu-nketias-directive-to-ndc-mps-to-boycott-parliament/ Mon, 18 Nov 2024 11:21:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2472825 New Patriotic Party(NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Akuapem-North, Sammi Awuku, has expressed disappointment in the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

This follows Asiedu Nketia’s directive to the party’s Members of Parliament(MPs) to boycott any emergency parliamentary recall.

Addressing supporters in the Western Region on Saturday, November 16, General Mosquito as he is popularly known claimed that with the 2024 general elections approaching, the majority caucus lacks legitimate reasons for reconvening Parliament and is pursuing questionable objectives.

“Let no NDC MP step foot in Parliament. If they like, they can go and burn the sea. There’s no work in Parliament that can be described as an emergency. This is just an avenue for them to continue the rampant corruption they’ve engaged in for the past eight years,” he said.

In response to this, Mr Awuku, who is also the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem described the comment as very worrying coming from a party chairman.

“How did we get here? If God forbid, the NDC wins power and the NPP has the majority of MPs in Parliament, what will his reaction be?” If your party wins power and the NPP is in the majority, how do you expect them to treat you?” he asked.

In his view, such remarks could hinder the working relationship between parties.

He added that while they may disagree with the decision of the court, it’s important to respect and accept it.

Mr Awuku stressed that disrupting the business of Parliament could have long-term negative consequences for the country and the political environment.

He also addressed the current economic challenges, stating, “Even though the economy is tough, we have never cancelled nurses’ allowances, free SHS, or other policies. The government has done a lot for Ghanaians.”

The NPP PC for Akuapem North expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.

“I believe December 7th is ours for the taking.”

Acknowledging that both President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia are not perfect, he said, “Akufo-Addo has not been a saint, nor has Dr. Bawumia.

NLA blames inability to crack down on illegal lottery operations on political interference https://www.adomonline.com/nla-blames-inability-to-crack-down-on-illegal-lottery-operations-on-political-interference/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 14:33:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432729 The National Lottery Authority (NLA) says its inability to clamp down on illegal lottery operations across the country is due to interference from political figures.

According to the Director General of the NLA, Sammy Awuku, the NLA has seen a consistent decline in revenue generation from over GH₵400 million in 2017 to GH₵200 million in 2021.

Mr Awuku said his outfit has an estimated 780 illegal operating lotto companies in Ghana and Ghana’s lottery field is estimated by the World Lotto Association to raise 1.8 billion cedies a year.

“Out of this, about a billion is in the hands of the illegal operators. They don’t pay taxes. We don’t know them. You go after them and it becomes a political matter.

“But now we have decided that in helping us get to that revenue mobilisation point, if you are not licensed to operate lottery, we won’t allow you to operate,” he said.

Responding to the findings of the Attorney General’s report at the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Mr Awuku said that the Authority loses at least one billion cedis to lottery operations in the black market.

The NLA Director General said the NLA is engaged in a tussle with the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) among several measures to clamp down on illegal lottery operations.

“The measures we’ve taken is to stamp our authority. Our given mandate by Parliament and the law that if you are not licensed to operate lottery, we won’t allow you to operate.

“We’ve been embarking on swoops, but the Board took a firm decision last week that the NLA must now go out there to ensure that regardless of whoever you are, if you are not licensed to operate the lottery, you shouldn’t operate it,” he stressed.

The Director General of the National Lotteries Authority and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Akuapem North Constituency, Sammy Awuku, is aiming to secure 70 percent of the total votes in the parliamentary elections on December 7.

This ambitious goal aims to build on the party’s 55% victory in the 2020 general elections under MP Abena Dokua.

Speaking to party faithful after the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong, Mr. Awuku expressed confidence in the NPP’s strategic planning, which he believes will out-maneuver the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Today, with the launch of our campaign by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the Akuapem North constituency, we reflect on our 55% parliamentary vote in 2020. As we gear up for the 2024 elections, our focus is on securing 70% of the votes through strategic planning.”

“The NPP’s victory will be driven by our solid strategy, which the NDC will not understand. Dr. Bawumia’s energy and dedication inspire us all. I implore the youth to prioritize their future above any other thing.”

Awuku also drew inspiration from Dr. Bawumia’s energy and dedication, urging the youth to prioritise their future and get psychologically prepared and strategically positioned to win the election.

He emphasised that the NPP will not be intimidated by the NDC, charging the youth wing to be ready for the challenge ahead.

“In Salam Mustapha’s Youth Wing, we have a well-oiled, resourced and competent youth machinery to produce victory in 2024. But this election the youth wing of the NPP must be psychologically prepared and strategically positioned to ensure victory is achieved but I want to tell the NDC, we will not be intimidated.”

“This election will be conducted fairly. If they lose, they will, as usual, take it to court. Having experienced contempt proceedings previously, I am well-versed in court matters. Therefore, no one can dispute the results. I want to assure you a vote for Dr Bawumia is a vote for your future” Mr. Awuku added.

Though many might think he was born with a golden spoon in his mouth, the reverse was the case.

Mr. Awuku revealed how poverty drove him to sell water on the street to support his parents to cater for the education of his four sisters.

“I recall a time when I had to sell water to help my sisters attend Holy Child because, among our five siblings, I was the only brother and the youngest. While others had assistance, I found myself solely responsible, facing the trials alone,”he recounted on Accra based Peace FM.

Given this backdrop, Mr. Awuku who is a leading member of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign said he will be forever grateful for how far he has come in life.

According to him, the campaign to retain power in the 2024 election will not be an easy task.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe he said although the NPP will be contesting mainly against Mr Mahama, he believes their candidate will emerge victorious in the 2024 elections.

“We are up against a very formidable opponent, but the NPP will win 2024 based on superior strategy – our message and our ability,” he admitted.

“I am confident of NPP victory in 2024 because what is the alternative? The alternative must also tell us what they intend to do. They are not new to the politics of our country,” he added.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi is cautioning Ghanaians against voting for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections, suggesting he will shield the family and friends of the Akufo-Addo government from being accountable to the people of Ghana for their crimes against the state.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Hundreds of revelers of this year’s Akuapem Odwira and residents in the Akropong community and its environs are expected to throng the forecourt of Okuapehene’s Palace to witness NLA’s biggest daily draw, the National Weekly Lotto, on Saturday, 30th September 2023, at 7:15 PM.

This stems from a courtesy call by the Director-General of NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku and his Management team on Thursday, 28th September 2023, to officially inform the Okuapehene, HRM Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III of NLA’s Akuapem Odwira Community Draw.

Director-General of NLA Mr. Samuel Awuku greets the gathering

“This is the first time NLA is holding a Community Draw in Akropong in its 61 years of existence.  NLA’s new ultra-modern Draw machines, christened money-making machines that draw the golden eggs, is also making its first stop in Akropong since its launch on August 1, 2023,” Mr. Awuku said.

The Okuapehene’s Palace went agog over the announcement by Mr. Awuku in anticipation of witnessing a live Draw in the Akropong community.

NLA’s ultra-modern new Draw machines would be crane-lifted from the renowned Brennan Hall, where the Authority’s Draws are held, for Akropong at dawn on Saturday and heavily guarded by a combined security personnel of military and police.

According to the Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, as part of efforts to dispel the myth about its Games and Draws, NLA introduced the Community Draws.

The objective is also to educate people on the transparency and integrity of the draw, especially to dismiss the activities of fraudsters who purport to give out leaked winning numbers on WhatsApp and Facebook.

NLA, Ghana Post signs partnership for new game https://www.adomonline.com/nla-ghana-post-signs-partnership-for-new-game/ Fri, 15 Sep 2023 09:42:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2294455 The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has introduced yet another Draw to its Daily Draws, An Afternoon Draw dubbed NoonRush.

The Draw was held at the Head Office of Ghana Post, Accra.

Citing Section 23 of the National Lotto Act and LI 1948, which mandates NLA “to conduct Draws at a given date, place and time,” and Section 2, (4) of the National Lotto Act, which mandates the Authority to hold Draws in collaboration with third parties, Mr. Awuku also announced a Partnership Agreement with Ghana Post to bring its games closer to the public.

In the spirit of the partnership, NLA launched the Noon Rush Draw at the premises of Ghana Post.

The new addition, Noon Rush Draw, which would be held at 1:00 PM from Monday to Saturday, giving patrons of NLA Games multiple chances to win in a day, can be played on NLA’s Point of sale terminals and their Online Channel,*959#.

This brings the Authority’s Daily Draws to three: the VAG Lotto Draw at 10:00 AM, NoonRush at 1:00 PM and the popular Evening Draws at 7:15 PM.

The Director-General of NLA, Samuel Awuku, on August 1, 2023, announced the introduction of the NoonRush Draw at the launch of the Authority’s new state-of-the-art Draw Machines and the unveiling of its new ultra-modern Draw Studio.

According to Mr Awuku, NLA recently attained Level 2 Certification in Responsible Gaming from the World Lottery Association (WLA) and is working on achieving Level 3 by the end of the year.

Holding multiple Draws daily is, therefore, in conformity with the Authority’s obligations as a WLA member.

Following the launch of the NoonRush Draw, the Director-General of NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku and the Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr. Bice Osei-Kuffour, signed the Partnership Agreement to play NLA’s Games at Ghana Post.

Consequently, NLA’s Games are now available on point-of-sale terminals in over 50 Post Offices across the country.

According to the Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, while digitalization allows a cross-section of players to play from the comfort of their homes on smart devices on NLA’s Online Platform, this collaboration with Ghana Post forms part of NLA’s quest to reach out to its conservative players who are sentimentally attached to playing from NLA’s Point of Sale Terminals.

Mr Awuku said the collaboration also seeks to raise revenue for both organizations.

“With this Partnership, NLA and Ghana Post are two state-owned organisations promoting each other’s business and generating revenue for our respective organizations, and I believe this venture must be supported”.

Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr Bice Osei-Kuffuor, on his part, said the Partnership Agreement is a testament to the reinvigorated Ghana Post and called on Service Providers to do business with the company.

“This, like many other partnerships entered into, is a manifestation of the new energies Ghana Post is emitting to, attracting giants like the National Lottery Authority to do business with us,” Mr Osei-Kuffour said.

Mr. Osei-Kuffuor also noted that Ghana Post’s Offices are in every district and region of the country, and the company is working on having NLA’s Games at other Post Offices by the end of the year.

Ghana Post is working with NLA through its intermediary, Lotto Pay Solutions Ltd. Lotto Pay Solutions Ltd is a Lotto Marketing Company (LMC) retailing NLA’s products at over 50 selected Post Offices nationwide.

Mr Awuku who is a member of St Augustine’s College School Past Students Union (APSU) is seen entertaining his mates with Sisqo’s Unleash the Dragon.

In the said video which is featured in this article, the young politician is seen showcasing his musical prowess to the amazement of colleagues who could not help but dance to the tunes.

After a few lines of the song, he is joined by colleagues who are seen teasing him after he abandoned the microphone as lead vocalist and allowed them to sing in unison.

This, many argue, is the rare side of Mr Awuku as many people know him more for his political side.

It would be recalled that in October last year, while serving as the Guest of Honour of the 2001 Year Group of the St. Augustine’s College/Holy Child School Past Students Union (APSU/HOPSA), he took the microphone to dish out some good music from Kwabena Kwabena and others to patrons.

Mr Awuku, seen as one of the old students who has distinguished himself with exemplary leadership in the discharge of his duties, took the opportunity to unveil his other side which is his love for music and singing.

Defeated National Youth Organiser aspirant, Ernest Brogya Genfi, made the allegation on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.

He claimed the NPP man has been a financier of the newly elected National Youth Organiser of the NDC, popularly known as Pablo.

When challenged by show host, Osei Bonsu to back his allegations with evidence, Broga Genfi said it is an open secret.

You’ve made us proud – Malta Gaming Authority to Ghana’s NLA https://www.adomonline.com/youve-made-us-proud-malta-gaming-authority-to-ghanas-nla/ Mon, 21 Nov 2022 11:05:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2186345 The Malta Gaming Authority has hailed Ghana’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) for the successes it has chalked in 60 years after it mentored and supported the country to establish it.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Maltese National Lottery, Johann Schembriwhile despite hailing Samuel Awuku and his team also proposed ways NLA can deal with the activities of illegal lottery operators which was a topical issue at the World Lottery Association Conference recently, and expressed concern over the high commission rates paid by NLA,  warning that this development could affect the Authority within the next few years if not checked.

He indicated that Malta, which had one of the world’s highest commission rates of 7%, is seeking to guard against future increases, citing countries like the United Kingdom and the United States, which currently pay commission rates of around 6%.  They indicated their willingness to partner with NLA in developing the game to another level.

Chief Officer of Policy and International Affairs in Malta, Mr. Kinga Ward lauded the recognition by the Ghanaian team they mentored over 6 decades ago and gave them an insight into their game.

History of Ghana’s NLA and Maltese National Lottery

A simple business trip to an island in Southern Europe over six decades ago paved the way for the birth of a national treasure in Ghana.

A Finance Minister’s fascination with the lottery when he chances on it while on an official visit, culminates in the birth of the Department of National Lotteries (DNL), when he informs the President of the Republic, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of his exciting discovery.

After discussions with the Maltese Government, another visit by Ghanaian envoys to understudy the lottery, the secondment of Maltese officials to help Ghana set up its own lottery body, and the passing of a Lotteries bill in parliament in 1962, DNL is officially instituted.

Sixty years on, DNL now an autonomous body, the National Lottery Authority NLA, reconnected with its mother lottery Authority in Malta.

Historic Visit 60 years on

A team comprising some Board Members and Management including Mr. Philip Anning, Madam Frances Joana Adda, the Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, the Chief Internal Auditor, Mrs. Emmanuella Ephraim, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Judith Kormleand the Interim Chairman of the Association of Lotto Marketing Companies, Mr. Francis Opoku officially paid a visit to some selected government Offices and the Malta Gaming Authority to invite them to NLA’s 60th Anniversary Celebration.

The NLA Delegation, representing the Board Chairman, His Emminence, Torgbui Francis Nyono, together with Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malta, H.E Barbara Benissa first called on Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Ian Borg, who paid glowing tribute to the partnership between Ghana and Malta and called for closer collaboration between these countries.

He wished the NLA well and promised to reciprocate the official visit in January as part of his Official tour to Ghana. He was confident Ghana could still learn from the Maltese experience since Malta had advanced from what Francis Brennan taught Ghana some 60 years ago.

Next, the NLA team led by the Ghana High Commissioner to Malta, H.E Barbara A. Benisa also had the privilege of paying a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta, Hon. AnġluFarrugia. He warmly welcomed the NLA Team and handed over a copy of the 1962 Registration Certificate of NLA to the Director General, Mr. Samuel Awuku. He also advised the NLA team to change its lottery processes and strategies to achieve more significant revenue and growth.

The Director General of NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku thanked the Speaker of Parliament, for the hospitality and for taking the time to meet with the team even though the Maltese Parliament was in session deliberating on their budget for 2023.

The Malta Gaming Authority confirmed its participation at NLA‘s 60t Anniversary Grand Durbar.

The Maltese High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Jean Claude GaleaMallia facilitated the visit to Malta.

NLA’s 60th anniversary celebration launched https://www.adomonline.com/nlas-60th-anniversary-celebration-launched/ Fri, 30 Sep 2022 16:02:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2167615 The National Lottery Authority (NLA) successfully launched its 60th anniversary celebration at the organisation’s headquarters in Accra on September 29, 2022.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of the Authority, Samuel Awuku, said the organisation has outlined series of activities over the next three months, to commemorate its 60th anniversary.

He added that the month of October will be dedicated to NLA’s cherished customers, “whom we recognise as our most valued assets.”

For the month of November, Mr Awuku said it will be pinned for their good causes, adding that, the 60th anniversary will be climaxed with a Grand Durbar of the Anniversary Celebration in December, which will be held concurrently with a conference on responsible gaming “as we host the African Lotteries Association (ALA).”

He indicated that in the month the Authority will give back to society by commissioning some Projects, in various parts of the country.

The NLA boss further touched on the history of Lottery in Ghana, tracing it back to the Roman Empire, in the year 1434 in Europe.

He told about how Mr Komla Gbedemah, the then Finance Minister, stumbled across a lottery, while on an official visit to the Republic of Malta in the Southern part of Europe, culminating in the birth of the NLA.

“As the story goes, Mr. Gbedemah informed the then Prime Minister, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on his return, who in turn sent envoys to Malta to understudy the lottery, and requested the Maltese government to help Ghana set up its own lottery body.  In granting that request, the Maltese government seconded, Mr. William Francis Brennan, an Officer of the Malta Public Lotteries Department, to assist Ghana set up the Department of National Lotteries (DNL). Mr. Brennan was thus the Department’s first Director-General,” he said.

He said, after the establishment of the NLA some years ago, NLA can confidently boast of exemplifying its mandate to make all stakeholders ultimate winners.

He said: “It has been 60 Years of generating revenue for national development, 60 years of touching lives, communities, and institutions and 60 years of making our patrons millionaires.”

He maintained that, while NLA has had its fair share of challenges in this 60-year journey, the reforms, policies, and decisions taken by successive Boards and Director-Generals have helped shaped the organisation into what it is today.

Furthermore, he commended all the Boards, Director-Generals, Directors, Management, and Staff, both past, and present, who have worked tirelessly to keep the NLA afloat.

Mr Awuku also displayed some of the good causes of the NLA, where the organisation provided social amenities and equipment to organisations, individuals and entities that need a social need to thrive.

Present at the occasion were Board Chairman NLA and Member Council of State, His Eminence Tobge Francis Nyonyo, Deputy Finance Minister, Dr John Kumah, Maltese High Commissioner to Ghana – H.E Jean Claude Galea Mallia, and Minister of Defence, Dominic Aduna Bingh Nitiwul.

The list continues with Lotto Marketing Companies (LMCs) Chairman, Mr Francis Opoku, Director General – Lonaci, and President of African Lottery Mr. Dramane Coulibaly, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Godfred Yeboah Dame Esq and Ms. Crystle Asa-Eck.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Odame in a goodwill message lauded the NLA on their 60 years milestone.

He added that if NLA were a person, he or she would have been in their retiring age.

He also noted that, the lottery is a celebration of the partnership between NLA and its patrons in an effort to give each and every member an exceptional lifetime opportunity to better their lives.

Over the last year, the Authority has been embarking on a restructuring exercise to drive efficiency and rebuild our corporate image. One of the initiative was the relaunch of the Caritas Lottery Platform.

This, according to the Board Chairman of NLA, Togbe Francis Nyonyo Agboada, is a demonstration of the Authority’s resolve to deepen partnership with Corporate Ghana.

“We have successfully licensed some Private Lotto Operators, (PLOs) and look forward to welcoming more on board.  The security services together with the NLA task force will continue to clamp down on defaulters to sanitize the lottery industry. We are also in the process of signing on some more Collaborators who will introduce some exciting new games for our cherished patrons.  By the end of the year, we should take delivery of our modern machines, which purchase was done in accordance with the standards of the World Lottery Association (WLA).”

On his part, the Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul said as members of the family, VAG has benefited from support from proceeds from the NLA VAG lottery game.

He said his ministry would continue to explore more avenues of partnership with the NLA in bettering the lives of his men.

The event climaxed successfully with the unveiling of the 60th anniversary logo and cloth, and the cutting of cake.

Sammy Awuku takes on UK High Commissioner https://www.adomonline.com/sammy-awuku-takes-on-uk-high-commissioner/ Mon, 29 Aug 2022 13:57:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2155629 The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has questioned the rationale behind recent utterances by the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson.

Sammy Awuku is concerned about what he sees as a seeming imbalance in the diplomat’s commentary regarding Ghana’s governance issues.

The former Organiser for the New Patriotic Party indicated that the diplomat must channel some of her energy towards some issues in her home country, the UK.

He urged the High Commissioner to be mindful of her remits in order not to overstep her boundaries as a diplomat through her assertions.

“Sometimes I beg to differ with the way she also expresses her opinion. That doesn’t mean that we are gagging people. But I think that there’s definitely a code as well for diplomats and I think sometimes she might also be a bit cautious with the way she interferes in the governance process of the country,” he said on Monday.

Over the weekend, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, in an interview on JoyNews addressed certain developments in the country.

Mrs Thompson, among other things, asked that President Akufo-Addo stands with Ghanaians as the country goes through economic challenges by cutting down on expenditure as a sign of solidarising with the plight of the citizenry.

She also described as worrying the perception that corruption is getting worse in the country.

NLA boss

But speaking on Joy Prime, Mr Awuku insisted that “she is been very eloquent in interfering in the governance process of the country.”

On her call for expenditure cuts, the NLA boss explained that “once she begins to also express these opinions, they are good, but it’s important that she also becomes very balanced in what’s also happening back home in our country.

“She’s talking about cutting down costs, which I also find very interesting, UK is also investing more in ammunition to support Ukraine to the detriment of the British people, who are also feeling the pinch.”

NLA boss Sammy Awuku eulogises Obour https://www.adomonline.com/nla-boss-sammy-awuku-eulogises-obour/ Fri, 26 Aug 2022 13:35:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2154814 The good works of Ghana Post Managing Director (MD), Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, particularly for reforming, restructuring the postal and parcel courier service, has won the heart of the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammy Awuku.

Mr Awuku has showered praises on Obour for initiating a new face of Ghana’s premier postal service company.

According to him, Obour has within a very short period embarked on efficient deliverable solutions to streamline courier and parcel postal services in Ghana.

He made this personal observation recently.

Obour, ever since assuming office, has given the digitalisation drive of Ghana Post a big boost.

One of these achievements is the recently introduced Ghana Post Scuttle Parcel Box.

This new intervention is an upgrade of Ghana Posts’ door-to-door receptacle initiative which was launched to help facilitate a more convenient way of postal and courier services delivery to the doorsteps of customers.

“I have personally followed the activities of Ghana Post and I’m indeed impressed about the level of progress since Obour took over as Ghana Post MD.

“The level of seriousness, high spirit, youthful zeal and competence Obour has injected into Ghana Post is highly commendable. It is, therefore, not surprising that President Nana Akufo-Addo is so impressed with what Obour is doing so far,” Mr Awuku said.

“Obour has done extremely well to increase the income base of Ghana Post.
Congratulations to him, together with his brother and Deputy, Kwaku Tabi for the wonderful job they are doing over there.”

Sammy Awuku, Director-General of NLA

He stated that this goes a long way to show that President Akufo-Addo has proven that young people can also deliver when they are given the chance.

Mr Awuku further mentioned that the NLA against this background, will intensify its collaboration with Ghana Post to take charge of delivering most of its documentations.

“The NLA as a government institution also deals with high volumes of documents including a lot of petitions. We are ready to further strengthen our collaboration with Ghana Post to use its Courier services for some of these operations,” he assured.

He added “that is the kind of thing that the president and his government officials hear and it encourages them that the young people are definitely also playing a key role in how development works.

“Yes, already, the people responsible for our postal service were foreign but we have talked to the management for it to be handed over to Ghana Post so it would increase their revenue base.

“I have also seen that he travelled to the UK to visit the Royal Mail, interestingly, if you take a good look at Social Media from the Western perspective and how they still make very good use of their postal services, I’m happy they are trying to introduce something similar here. Looks like now, you can even find a post box in front of your house and when you come out, you may find a token. These are some of the things that help to drive the economy,” he explained.

NLA launches first-ever Sunday draw ‘Aseda’ https://www.adomonline.com/nla-launches-first-ever-sunday-draw-aseda/ Sun, 03 Jul 2022 22:01:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2133689 The National Lottery Authority (NLA) yesterday, launched the seventh game of its popular 5/90 game.

This is the first time in the 60 years of the Authority’s existence that a game is being introduced for Sunday.

The game, dubbed, Aseda to wit, “thanksgiving”, according to the Authority is a game to say ‘thank you’ to its loyal customers.

Deputy Attorney-General, Diana Asonaba Dapaah, who launched the Game, congratulated the NLA for the newest addition to their games and indicated that it will provide an exciting opportunity for players, and also help NLA generate revenue to support the government’s developmental agenda.

“I recognize the efforts being made through your Good Causes Foundation to give back to society and commend you to keep it up.

I am optimistic the Sunday Aseda Draw is a game-changer and will be a great addition to your existing games,” she said.

Director-General of NLA, Samuel Awuku averred that NLA has made history with the introduction of the Aseda Draw.

Speaking at the launch on Sunday 3rd July 2022, Mr. Samuel Awuku said “ Our overall aim is to create moments of happiness for our customers, they have stood with the Authority for all these years.

Aseda is to say a big thank you to our loyal customers and to raise more revenue for the authority. Throughout the 60 years of lottery in Ghana, this is the first time a major Game has been introduced on Sunday and we believe this innovation will make the NLA competitive in the lottery and gaming industry.”

“Already the African Lottery Association has readmitted Ghana into the Association and has granted us the bid to host the Association’s annual conference in December which will cap our celebrations. There are better days ahead thank you for coming.”

According to him, Section 21 of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (ACT 72) and Regulation 21 of the Lottery Regulations, 2008 (L.I.1948) give the NLA Director-General the mandate to determine the dates and times for a draw of any national lottery, yet it took 17 years and 15 years after passing the ACT and Regulations respectively, to include Sundays in the days for holding Lotto Draws.

He said the community benefit derived from the draw is enormous hence Section 2(3) of ACT 722 enjoins NLA to conduct a lottery to provide for the care and protection of the physically or mentally afflicted, the needy, aged, orphans, and destitute children.

“It is in pursuance of this object that NLA developed the CARITAS Lottery platform as a channel for Corporate Ghana to run trade promotions which were Lottery in form and substance.”

Sammi Awuku noted that proceeds from lotteries held on the CARITAS platform go to support the NLA Good Causes Foundation, which Foundation was also set up to give meaning to Section 2(3) of the ACT. He said: “Since its establishment, the achievements of the Good Causes Foundation are evident for all to see. Being able to hold draws on Sundays means that those Corporate institutions which have till now been prevented from holding draws on Sundays can now have their wish.”

Meanwhile, from the information received the holding of draws on Sundays is a welcome relief for NLA’s cherished patrons who have always advocated for that.

The name given to the Sunday draw, ASEDA, he explained, is also very apt, as Sundays are when Christians go to worship and thank the Almighty, and so, “it is just right and fitting that if NLA institutes a draw on this day, NLA will take the opportunity to give the draw a name that renders thanks and praises to God for making this possible.”

He averred that the future of NLA depends on the integrity of its draws and so, the inclusion of Sundays certainly helps in closing the gap that has existed for the past 60 years.

He commended the Management and staff of NLA for this feat.

“Let me say a big thank you to our supervising ministry, the Ministry of Finance for their support for the vision of transforming the NLA into a world-class lottery body.  To my board, management, and Staff I say I am grateful for the support,” he said.

On his part, the Director of Operations, Dr. George Gyamfi-Osew said the Sunday Aseda Draw, which climaxes all their daily games, is their way of saying “Thank You” to their cherished patrons for playing their games throughout the week. “It also provides another opportunity for our patrons to play and win big.

We greatly appreciate your loyalty to the brand and trust you find the Aseda draw enjoyable,” he said.

In attendance were some members of the NLA Board including Director-General, Mr. Samuel Awuku, Deputy Attorney-General: Hon. Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Deputy Director-General, Madam Anna Horma Miezah, Mr. Yoofi Grant CEO of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre and his Deputy Mr. Yaw Afriyie, and other officials.

Fraudsters using Sammy Awuku’s name in recruitment scam arrested https://www.adomonline.com/fraudsters-using-sammy-awukus-name-in-recruitment-scam-arrested/ Mon, 27 Jun 2022 11:25:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2131065 A 73-year-old businessman, Emmanuel King Opare, a known member of the ruling New Patriotic Party and a 55-year-old teacher, Elizabeth Manukure, both residents of Akuapem Mamfe in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region have been arrested over GHC58,200 recruitment fraud.

The accused persons allegedly used the name of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, to collect the money from six victims who are complainants in the case under the pretense of securing them enlistment into the security services.

The complainants are Benjamin, 32, a pupil teacher, Freda, 32, self-employed, Lydia, 28, self-employed, Daniel, 25, unemployed, all residents of Accra while the rest, Emmanuel, 25, unemployed and Richard, 25, trader are residents of Koforidua.

The facts of the case presented by the Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Bernard before a Koforidua Circuit court are that the first accused person, Emmanuel King Opare, told his friend Eric Okornoo in January 2021 that he has some protocol slots to enlist people into the security services, hence he should get some people who are interested and ready to pay GHC7,000 for recruitment, GHC1,200 for medicals and GHC1,500 for prospectus, all totaling GHC97,00.

The witness informed the victims now complainants who eventually paid the monies totaling GHC58,200 which were handed over to the first accused by the witness in the case together with their documents.

However, Mr Opare failed to honour his promise of enlisting them into the security services and kept fabricating excuses.

The victims, together with the complainants, reported the case to the Railways Police station for investigation.

The first accused was arrested at his hideout at Mamfe Akuapem where he mentioned the second accused, Elizabeth Manukere, as his accomplice.

She was also arrested. She mentioned one Mr Mensah who she claimed was working out the enlistment and hence sent GHC25,200 to him.

During her caution statement, Elizabeth Manukure admitted receiving GHC4,200 from Emmanuel King Opare for each person contrary to claims of given her GHC9,700 per victim.

Police investigation disclosed that madam Manukure received a total of GHC25,200 only from Mr Opare and not GHC58,200 as claimed. That Mr Opare pocketed GHC33,000.

The accused persons have since refunded GHC11,500 and GHC4,000 to the complainants.

The accused persons pleaded guilty when put before Koforidua Circuit Court ‘A’ presided by Kwame Polley.

The defense counsel, Adu Amankwah, pleaded with the court to grant the accused bail and give them three months to refund the rest of the money.

The judge scolded the accused persons for defrauding victims who could be their children and grandchildren.

The judge admitted the accused persons to a bail sum of GHC30,000 with two sureties each.

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku, has lashed out at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the economic lecture by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Giving a short speech at the National Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Training and Orientation Conference at Kasoa in the Central Region, Mr Awuku said they expect economists in the NDC to respond to the man described as a ‘digital man’.

“As we prepare to listen to the digital man and the renowned economist I know that from tomorrow, instead of they allowing economists to respond to him, they are going to allow as usual the ‘Goro boys’ to respond to him,” he said.

According to him, it is important that they (the NDC) listen to Dr Bawumia to understand the issues and see how far the NPP government has moved the nation from the shackles of poverty that they inherited from John Mahama’s administration.

The National Lottery Authority boss urged the party faithful to lead the charge and narrative that would sell the party for overwhelming success in the next polls.

“In 2024, it’s important that we tell ourselves from today that we own the campaign and the victory for 2024. So let’s move away from allowing our opponents to define us and set the narrative. Let’s move away from people calling you to ask you if you are listening to this radio station or watching this TV,” he said.

As the head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, Dr Bawumia touched on issues such as the continuous price hikes on fuel and commodities, the depreciation of the cedi, and the controversial E-Levy, among others.

Sammy Awuku should enforce legal action against Abena Korkor – Rachel Appoh [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/sammy-awuku-should-enforce-legal-action-against-abena-korkor-rachel-appoh-video/ Sun, 20 Mar 2022 15:31:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2093403 Former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh, has asked Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, not to settle his case with Abena Korkor out of court.

The social media influencer and bipolar advocate was earlier reported to the Cyber Crime Unit in Ghana by the Managing Director of the National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, after the she alleged that she’s had an intimate affair with him.

The specialised unit at the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, according to Abena Korkor, seized her phone after the report to further investigate the matter.

Reacting to this on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall, Rachel Appoh asked Sammy Awuku to never listen to “friends and family” who are begging on the sidelines for him to withdraw the case out of court.

She explained that, one of those who are facing the allegations must maintain their stand to prove the reasonable doubt that nothing has happened between them.

According to her, if Sammy Awuku presses on in court, it would pave the way for a judge to direct Abena Korkor to a medical facility if the need be.

She explained that she had dealt with people of Abena Korkor’s kind and they need necessary attention to come out of their pain.

For the past few days Abena Korkor has been trending on social media after she came out with a new set of list of men she has allegedly slept with.

The A-list celebrities included one top musician and two Ghanaian footballers.

According to her, after she was reported by the Managing Director of National Lottery Authority, Samuel Awuku, for defamation the Cyber Crime Unit requested for her phone.

She added that, any attempt to recover the phone proved futile as the Unit keeps extending the date they have scheduled to give it back to her.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Drive Time show dubbed Ofie Kwanso, the influencer said she had to purchase another phone before she could have access to her social media accounts that she uses for business.

I didn’t know it was a crime but I was educated and I used my face for accessing the account… meanwhile I have already admitted my crime and they haven’t given me my phone till now.

They claim they are doing investigation. I have been sacked from my job I just started and doing business and they have taken my phone from me.

I don’t have access to my clothing page, I did it in such a way that without that phone you cannot log in. I had to look for an IT expect to get back my pages, she told host Jerry Justice.

70% of lotto operators illegal – NLA boss reveals https://www.adomonline.com/70-of-lotto-operators-illegal-nla-boss-reveals/ Wed, 19 Jan 2022 18:28:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2069437

It has emerged that about 70 percent of lotto operators across the country are illegal.

This means all monies during their operations go directly to private pockets.

The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Sammy Awuku, revealed this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Wednesday.

He said “70 percent of the people who make money from our lottery do not pay anything to the state. And that is why I want to be remembered for turning this situation around.”

To hit the ground running, Mr Awuku said they have started swoops across the country to sanitise the system.

This, he explained, was done after the Authority completed license regime as part of measures to streamline the activities of lotto operators.

The NLA boss said their operation is to ensure that lotto operators are more accountable by ensuring that they pay taxes to the government.

“Some legal lotto operations are happy with the swoops because it is helping their business,” he stated.

The NLA boss revealed that, in just six weeks, they have been able to raise GH¢6 million after the swoop.

“If we are able to sanitise the system, we should be able to leave a better legacy,” he added.

Mr Awuku thanked the stakeholders for the massive support in the clampdown on the illegal lotto operators in the country.

21-year-old Sakina Zakari had lost hope due to the inability of her parents and family members to support her to raise funds for her tertiary education.

The former science student of Chemu Senior High School (SHS) had just 24 hours to raise GH¢3,200 to fulfill her dream of becoming a science teacher in the future.

She, therefore, decided to reach out to Ghana’s No.1 radio station, Adom FM to launch a public appeal to raise funds to help her go to school.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Sakina narrated how her unemployed parents suffered to see her through SHS but are now at their wit end.

Touched by the plight of the young lady, Sammy Awuku in a telephone conversation with show host, Chief Jerry Forson, offered Sakina a full scholarship.

“I just received a call from Sammy Awuku, DG of NLA and he has offered to support Sakina’s education through the NLA’s Good Causes Foundation”

This is the charity arm of NLA set up to develop, implement and maintain an integrated action plan based on four main pillars – education, health, youth and sports development, and culture.

The education pillar will focus on awarding educational support to brilliant but needy students, provide infrastructure and logistics support to educational institutions and sponsorship for programmes that meet the objective of the foundation.

Sakina through Adom FM is now a beneficiary of the NLA ‘Good Causes Foundation’.

I have been an ‘Agitated General’ on the street but … Sammy Awuku on #FixTheCountry demo https://www.adomonline.com/i-have-been-an-agitated-general-on-the-street-but-sammy-awuku-on-fixthecountry-demo/ Wed, 05 May 2021 21:22:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1955831

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, is appealing to the group calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo to FixTheCountry to exercise restraint.

In his view, government has demonstrated enough commitment to accelerate Ghana’s development in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic that has ravaged world economies.

“Rome was not built in a day but when you have hope that the builders of Rome are not stealing the material then you have hope that Rome will be built,” he stated while reacting to an intended demonstration by the group.

The protest, slated for Sunday, May, 9, 2021, dubbed ‘FixTheCountry’ is to vent their spleens over what they described as failure on the part of successive governments to improve the lives of the citizenry.

But the planned protest is in limbo after the police indicated that it cannot provide security due to the COVID-19 pandemic – a development the conveners of ‘FixTheCountry’ described as very disappointing.

Reacting to this, Mr Awuku on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said though those who want to demonstrate have right, he would prefer they dialogue with government.

He said demonstrations are justified when leadership does not show concerns but when you have a compassionate and listening leader like President Nana Akufo-Addo, then dialogue should be employed.

Describing himself as an ‘Agitated General’ on the street, Mr Awuku said he led similar demonstrations because the then government did not show any concern to the plight of the citizenry.

“In the situation will find ourselves, the solution will not be a demonstration. I have been an agitated general on the street, participated in demonstrations and been part of leadership of demonstrations because the leadership was not honest but the situation is different now,” he added.

He appealed for calm as government works around the clock to improve the living standards of Ghanaians, especially the youth.

“Nana Akufo-Addo represents that leadership and we are going to rebuild this our Rome which is Ghana and we will make sure that myself and my government will not steal the building materials,” he stated.

Actor John Dumelo is being cautioned not to rely on his popularity to win the December polls at the Ayawaso West Wougon constituency.

According to the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, the actor will have a shock of his life at the close of poll on Monday, December 7, 2020.

He indicated that, the NPP candidate, Lydia Alhassan is a grassroots person and will win with a landslide victory.

NPP National Organiser

“You [Dumelo] underestimate Lydia Alhassan at your own risk,” Mr Awuku said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.

Mr Dumelo, parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, has given madam Alhassan a fierce contest.

He is hoping to break the NPP’s monopoly in the constituency to emerge the MP. Mr Dumelo has promised to change the fortunes of the constituents if given the opportunity to serve.

To prove his commitment, he has donated educational materials and embarked on other developmental projects in the constituency to woo voters.

But these initiatives by the popular actor, Mr Awuku said do not match the many projects undertaken by madam Alhassan.

“She is extremely resourceful and has done a lot in the constituency. The people are ready to retain him on December 7,” the NPP National Organiser said.

On the performance of the NPP, Mr Awuku said the grounds are fertile and President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second term is guaranteed.

Their strategy, he indicated, is to embark on the electioneering campaign as the political party in opposition.

“We are campaigning like we are in opposition because money does not vote so we won’t mount giant billboards like the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he said in an interview on Oman FM Tuesday.

The NPP National Organiser, who claims to have toured over 182 constituencies, said the social interventions of President Nana Akufo-Addo have resonated with the grassroots.

“Areas at Tolon and Mion in the Northern region, which hitherto were no go areas for the NPP, are now for us. The people shout ‘4 more for Nana’ when they see you,” he noted.

Based on the positive feedback at the grassroots during his tour, Mr Awuku said “I expect President Akufo-Addo to go beyond the 54 percent he got in 2016.”

“No mathematical gymnastics will let the NDC say the election was rigged because Akufo-Addo’s good works will reflect in the final verdict,” he said.

The NPP man said given the goodwill the NPP and President Akufo-Addo are enjoying across the country, “I wonder what the NDC is doing.

“I don’t wish the NDC success, I wish them luck,” he added.

We will not be intimidated in this election – Sammy Awuku [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-not-be-intimidated-in-this-election-sammy-awuku-video/ Tue, 13 Oct 2020 18:55:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1866541

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not succumb to intimidation in the coming elections.

Speaking at the Teachers Conference Volta 2020 held in Ho under the auspices of the Volta Regional Organiser, Sammy Awuku said the party will ensure vigilance during the counting of the ballot papers come December 7.

“We will not be intimidated in this election, we refuse to be intimidated in this election. The NPP will remain vigilant and make sure every ballot is counted and counted properly,” he said.

According to the youth organiser, “the ballot paper will be a choice between prosperity and poverty,…competence and incompetence…the ‘dumsor’ we’ve ended and someone who wants to continue from where he left off”.

He appealed to the teachers not to take things for granted, stating that they are the major employees of the Electoral Commission.

“Let’s not take things for granted, for many of you and your colleagues, you will be agents, you are going to be official; you and your colleagues because when the Electoral Commission is recruiting, mostly they are teachers,” he noted.

He stated that “the NPP does not want to be favoured in this election”, adding that they would neither want their opponents to be favoured.

“We don’t expect our opponents too to be favoured and no region will be declared a no-go area in this united Ghana. The presidency will not be for mistakes again, we don’t have time to waste again,” he added.

Mr Awuku cautioned the NDC against putting their hopes in votes from the Volta Region as the NPP is succeeding in attracting the loyalty of voters in the region.

According to him, “if someone thinks he’s still a World Bank (referring to the support of the NDC in the Volta Region) and has forgotten that he’s been reduced to microfinance then the person has a problem.

“The NDC is still living on a very dangerous illusion, if you are a leader, you should have people following you, but on the day you turn to see that there’s no one following you, you are taking a walk, not leading and that is what is happening in the Volta region,” he said.

He added that the NPP will extend their campaign to all workers across the country.

“We will campaign to teachers across the country, nurses across the country, traders across the country, students across the country, each and every voter will hear of our massage of hope against hopelessness from Mahama,” he said.

The NPP man made the comment on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday while reacting to criticisms about the government’s handling of the pandemic.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has singled out the social intervention programme during the lockdown and accused the government of sharing food on partisan lines.

The party’s flagbearer, former President Mahama, who said the sharing of the cooked meal was shambolic, also started feeding some households whom he claimed were neglected by government.

But, Mr Awuku said the ‘ugly noises’ being made by the NDC is because they are alarmed at the goodwill the NPP is enjoying few months to the elections.

He explained that, due to the praises being heaped on President Nana Akufo-Addo on his handling of the pandemic, the opposition party is moving heaven on earth to demonise him.

“The NDC will not see anything good in how government is handling COVID-19 but they failed in handling cholera outbreak,” he jabbed.

The NPP National Organiser is certain Ghanaians would renew the mandate of President Akufo-Addo for his proven track record and how effective he is leading the coronavirus fight.

Mr Awuku said the government will not be distracted in the COVID-19 fight to save lives and property.

His comment follows arguments by political pundits that Ghana is a danger with the NPP and NDC at the helm of affairs.

The debate was brought back following the violence that rocked the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections. The issue has even become murkier after the bloody clashes at the Ashanti Regional office of the NDC which left one dead.

Given this backdrop, many believe getting rid of these two political parties will save Ghana’s democracy.

Sammi Awuku condemns attitude of Ashanti Region NPP ‘serial callers’ https://www.adomonline.com/sammi-awuku-condemns-attitude-of-ashanti-region-npp-serial-callers/ Sat, 15 Sep 2018 12:52:15 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1334981 The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party Sammi Awuku has condemned the attitude of some serial callers in the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Awuku explains that in as much as they have their grievances, their approach was bad and must be condemned.

Speaking on Okay FM, he explained that the party has structures and that they could have channeled their grievances through those structures.

“I know the good works of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah and they could have reasoned with him on their issues,” he said.

Mr. Awuku described that, though the party will support them for their various contributions to the development of the party, they should not make it look as if the party owes them.

“Every government has a responsibility to honour their campaign promises and make the economy good and viable for businesses to thrive, and that is what the NPP government is committed to.

“We will not be distracted by some of these bottlenecks within the party,” he said.Nonetheless, I have dispatched the National Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye a.ka. Nana Bee to meet with them to have their issues addressed amicably.

In a rare protest against the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), members of a group calling itself Volunteer Media Communicators for NPP set their mobile phones ablaze in Kumasi.

The move, according to the serial pro-NPP callers, was to get party leadership to reward them for their loyalty.

The communicators, drawn from various constituencies in the Ashanti Region, converged at the Abbey’s Park clad in party colours and red armbands.

In all about 100 mobile phones were set on fire.

They hope the action will send home their dissatisfaction with the poor treatment they receive from party leadership in the Ashanti Region.

Executive Member for the group, Abel Anokye, said party leaders have refused to find them jobs after the party assumed affairs of state.

“We spend a lot of money on phone calls, just to defend the party. After we came to power we are yet to benefit from the party. They say we have been given MASLOC vehicles but it is not true. It was auctioned and we paid realistic prices for those vehicles without engines,” he said.

REVEALED: Sammi Awuku once bought 200 motorbikes for delegates https://www.adomonline.com/i-provided-200-motorbikes-why-cant-blay-provide-275-buses-sammi-awuku/ Tue, 10 Jul 2018 07:00:02 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1200291

Newly elected National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party has defended what he says is a private initiative by the chairman of his party to buy 275 new buses for commercial use in the constituencies.

Sammi Awuku said even he, without clout and financial muscle, was able to purchase 200 motorbikes to all constituency youth organisers and wondered why Chairman Freddie Blay who owns a media house, a law firm, has been Member of Parliament and Second Deputy Speaker for years cannot marshal resources to procure 275 vehicles.

As part of the criteria to becoming the chairman of the NPP, Sammi Awuku said the aspirant must show proof of being either resourceful or has the resources to push the party’s agenda.

He was in doubt that Blay had some resources and was resourceful enough to raise funds for the procurement of the vehicles.

The vehicles procured at a cost of $11 million are to be operated by the State Transport Company with a percentage of proceeds paid to the NPP constituency offices.

Mr Blay is reported to have paid an initial $3 million with the remaining amount left to be paid through the proceeds that will accrue from operating the commercial bus.

The Minority in Parliament is also raising an alarm over the policy and has asked for a financial audit of the finances of the Ghana National Petroleum Company, where Blay acts as the Board chair.

The president of the National House of Chiefs Togbe Afede also wants the scandal to be investigated by the Special Prosecutor.

But speaking to Joy News’ Evans Mensah a day after he was elected as National Organiser, Sammi Awuku said there is absolutely no wrongdoing in the procurement of the buses.

According to him, Freddie Blay decided to do something about party financing at the constituency level.

To make resourcing our constituency party easier I am going to push for an arrangement and a facility so that we can acquire at least minimum of 275 vehicles so that the party at the local level can have some engagement and run this as a commercial entity. Then the proceeds of it, the party at the constituency level can keep part and use the rest to pay for the facility taken,” he reported Freddie Blay as saying.

“If today there is a default the NPP and its assets will not be sold,” he explained, adding it was not a party initiative but a purely private initiative.

When his attention was drawn to the fact that his explanation was at variance with what Richard Nyama, the Spokesperson of Blay had said, the National Organiser said there was no contradiction at all.

Nyama had suggested in an interview with Joy FM that even though his boss brought up the idea, it was agreed to by the party and accepted by same.

But Awuku said there was no contradiction at all. He said the party chair discussed it with John Boadu who is also a key member of the party as well he Awuku.

So even though the party structure may not officially have been informed about it key party officials were in the know and were ready to support the initiative privately.

“If me, a small fry was able to procure 200 motorbikes for my Youth organisers, mobilized T-shirts for all of them without a dime coming from the party, you think Freddie who has been in this business, being a businessman has been an MP cannot raise money for these buses?” he asked.
