Midway through his performance, the Obiaa Nye Obiaa, African Money, and Tinana hits maker paused to reflect on the life and legacy of the late artiste, before thrilling patrons with a soulful rendition of Ebony’s hit song “Hustle.”

The emotional tribute drew loud applause from the audience as he exited the stage.

The moment proved especially moving as Sunday, January 8, 2026, marked exactly eight years since Ebony Reign’s tragic death in a fatal accident, near Mankranso on the Sunyani- Kumasi highway, while returning to Accra after a family visit to Sunyani.

Many patrons described the tribute as a touching way of honouring one of Ghana’s most celebrated young female dancehall and hiplife musicians.

Ebony Reigns, who died eight days before her 21st birthday and a day before a scheduled musical tour in Europe, also had hit songs, including “Poison” and “Kupe.”

In another development, Berima Sydney, who performed free of charge at the third edition of Naughty Saturday in Sunyani, joined the organisers to donate proceeds from the event to the “Compassion Is Love in Action Orphanage” at Yawhima, a suburb of Sunyani.

Speaking at the event, the lead organiser, Samuel Arko Burdett, popularly known as DJ Naughty, expressed his excitement about supporting the orphanage for the third consecutive year.

He appealed to organisations and individuals to endeavour to put smiles on the faces of the children by supporting the orphanage in cash or kind, describing such gestures as service to God.

He extended gratitude to some individuals, including Ransford Antwi, CEO of Suncity Radio and Suncity Imperial Lodge, and Vera Enyonam, CEO of Ericose Limited Company, for their continued support.

DJ Naughty further commended the MCs and DJs who contributed to the success of the event, including MC KMJ of Joy Prime TV, DJ Khalifa, MC Quest, and Opoku Agyeman of 4K Graphix.

The Naughty Saturday night was capped with an electrifying performance by fast-rising Nigerian artiste Exy, who thrilled patrons with songs such as “Control,” “Doo Doo,” and  “Wonder,” the latter in collaboration with DJ Naughty

“Ebony was everything” – Mzbel reflects on music evolution, praises late Dancehall Star https://www.adomonline.com/ebony-was-everything-mzbel-reflects-on-music-evolution-praises-late-dancehall-star/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 19:17:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619850 Ghanaian musician Mzbel has shared her thoughts on the evolution of the music industry, acknowledging that every generation of artistes brings something new, exciting and, in some cases, better than what existed before.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Afternoon Ride with Andy Dosty, the veteran singer said she appreciates how music and artistry continue to evolve over time.

“I know that we are evolving, so definitely people will upgrade, which will be more than mine. If it is nice, it is nice. I admire it,” she said.

Mzbel, however, noted that while innovation is important, not every new approach produces positive results.

“Some too, when they do it, it doesn’t look nice,” she added.

According to her, growth in the industry is often influenced by lessons learnt from the mistakes of earlier artistes.

“People will always learn from their flaws and mistakes,” she said, referring to musicians who came after her era.

Reflecting on late dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns, Mzbel described her as a rare talent whose presence lit up the industry.

“When Ebony came, everything she did was enjoyable. Ebony was just everything,” she said.

Mzbel singled out Ebony’s confidence as one of her strongest qualities, admitting it was something she herself struggled with earlier in her career.

“She was very confident. That’s one thing back then I didn’t have, because anytime they said something, I began to fear. It’s because of the way I was brought up,” she revealed.

She contrasted her own upbringing with Ebony’s boldness, which she described as refreshing and beautiful.

“For her, she was just bold, and it was beautiful,” Mzbel added.

The singer also expressed sadness over Ebony’s untimely death, saying the music industry lost a shining star too soon.

“It is just sad she had to go so quickly,” she said.

My daughters will uplift Ebony’s legacy after my death – Starboy Kwarteng https://www.adomonline.com/my-daughters-will-uplift-ebonys-legacy-after-my-death-starboy-kwarteng/ Sun, 11 Feb 2024 08:58:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2354282 Starboy Kwarteng, father of the late Ghanaian singer Ebony Reigns, has affirmed that his daughters will continue to eulogise their late sister after his death.

He said the family will make sure that Ebony’s impact endures for generations to come.

Mr. Kwarteng maintained that, even after he is gone, his daughters will diligently continue the work he started, ensuring that Ebony’s memory and contributions remain alive indefinitely.

“It’s my pleasure. When I’m gone, my daughters will take it from there because that is the deal. One day I will be gone. They need to do what I am doing now till thy kingdom come. Nana Hemaa deserves that,” Starboy Kwarteng said, underscoring his daughters’ role in perpetuating Ebony’s legacy.

Starboy Kwarteng’s dedication to honouring his daughter’s memory is evident in his annual organization of a Jollof party, a tribute to Ebony’s favourite food.

This event serves as a celebration of her life and a gathering for fans to remember her contributions to the music industry.

The tragic loss of Ebony Reigns, along with her assistant Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri and soldier Atsu Vondee, remains a poignant chapter in Ghana’s music history.

Ebony’s passing on February 8, 2018, just eight days before her 21st birthday, sent shockwaves through the nation, leaving an indelible mark on her fans and loved ones.

“I would have loved Ebony to be there with me in the booth. Her passion for music and her stagecraft and I could easily resonate with her, I used to tell my husband anytime she was performing that I could do exactly what she was doing, she made music easier for me, you could tell that she had a free spirit regardless of anything she was going through” she said.

Ebony left me debts I’m still paying – Bullet https://www.adomonline.com/ebony-left-me-debts-im-still-paying-bullet/ Tue, 19 Sep 2023 08:40:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2295596 Artiste Manager, Ricky Nana Agyemang, popularly known as Bullet has disclosed that he is still paying debts he incurred following a contract he signed with a company to get money to push the works of the late Ebony.

Speaking in an interview, the CEO of Ruff Town records noted that, he signed a contract with Midas Touch to get financial backing to promote Ebony’s works and career.

However, his expectations of recouping from the investment to pay back his debt ended when Ebony unexpectedly died in car crash few months after the contract.

Bullet said notwithstanding the shock of the death of Ebony and subsequently, knowing very well that his investments had gone down the drain, he still faced the burden of paying back Midas Touch’s investment per the contract.

“Do you know I have not finished paying Midas Touch records for the contract we signed for Ebony. As we speak now, I still owe Midas Touch records and I am still paying for it because the contract was supposed to run for some number of years for which they (Midas Touch) will share proceeds from works of the artistes but we all know what happened.

“Since the contract didn’t mention what will happen in the case of death, I had no choice than to pay back the money they invested which I’m still doing,” he said.

Bullet’s comments comes in the wake of allegations that he is an occultist who sacrificed his signees at the peak of their careers following Wendy Shay’s car crash last week.

His comments about Ebony leaving him in debt was part of a submission on his personal struggles as an artiste manager during the show.

Bullet also opened up about his personal struggles including battling the emotional torture of not ever knowing his mother.

“I have been through tough times. From sleeping on the street, in the studios and living with relatives who are not my biological parents. As we speak now, I have never met my mother before and I don’t even know how she looks like.

“It will be wrong for anyone to say that I am into occultism because when I was suffering, I didn’t even think about that and will be stupid to do that now when God is blessing me now,” he stated.

Starboy Kwarteng drops shocking latest report on Ebony’s death https://www.adomonline.com/starboy-kwarteng-drops-shocking-latest-report-on-ebonys-death/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 12:38:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2207643 Starboy Kwarteng, father of late Dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns, has revealed some components of her yet to be published death reports.

The aggrieved father alleged that the report has cemented his long-held assertion that there is an unnatural factor to his daughter’s demise.

In an interview on Kingdom FM, Mr Kwarteng revealed the driver behind the gory crash that killed his daughter and her two associates has finally been arrested.

He added that in the briefing he was given, the court declined to charge him for the deaths, as no evidence was found of his direct involvement in the deaths.

However, he was charged for reckless driving with an additional charge for not having a license at that time.

Mr Kwarteng further stated that the report said “the driver made no mistake, he was just lucky to survive the ordeal”.

This, he said contradicts earlier investigations where he was informed there was no foul play in the accident.

“They had the guts to inform me the driver has been arrested but I am not privy to any other information on her death. When they started the investigations, they said the driver made no mistake but now they are telling me he had no license; didn’t they check that to conclude. When an accident happens, first thing police check is if the driver is qualified to drive,” he fumed.

Though the police said everything seems natural, Mr Kwarteng is adamant Ebony’s death was well orchestrated, “based on investigations and what I was told”.

The aggrieved father dropped a bombshell when he alleged his daughter’s injuries were not consistent with wounds of an accident, especially as the car somersaulted multiple times.

“I believe Ohemaa was murdered before the accident because there was no blood on her outfit, I will always say this. She has serious deep cuts on her face and upper body yet there was no sign of blood,” he said.

To bring some closure on his daughter’s death, Mr Kwarteng is demanding final reports and findings from the necessary authorities.

Scary dreams of Ebony pushed me to consult pastors – iOna Reine https://www.adomonline.com/scary-dreams-of-ebony-pushed-me-to-consult-pastors-iona-reine/ Mon, 05 Dec 2022 13:11:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2191740 Controversial singer and nurse, iOna Reine, has revealed she was subjected to fear and constant psychological battles following the death of colleague Ebony Reigns.

Ebony passed on in the peak of her career in a fatal accident while returning from Sunyani to Accra in February 2018, and since then, her lookalikes have popped up to continue her legacy.

One of such is iOna Reine, who said her resemblance with Ebony did her more harm than good.

According to her, Ghanaians flooded her social media comment section with tributes and ‘RIP’, and the situation was so deep that she began seeing the late Ebony in her dreams.

Opening up on the encounter in an interview on Adom TV‘s The Journey, iOna revealed Ebony would be smiling at her, yet does not utter a single word.

In another dream she recounted, she said “it was a weird dream. She [Ebony] was pregnant and teaching in a classroom.”

Having a nursing background, iOna said she attributed the dreams to psychological trauma and sought the help of some of her colleagues.

However, she said the situation worsened and she began seeing the late Ebony more frequently, even when her eyes are widely opened and in broad daylight.

“At a point it became very scary. Even when I was doing something, I see her standing by. In one of the dreams, she had come back and some people were chasing us and took her away. The pain I felt in the dream, when I woke up, I felt the same chest pain and at that point I knew I had to get spiritual help.”

iOns revealed she got some pastors to pray with her and since then, the spirit of the late Ebony has departed from her.

When asked if she reached out to the family of the first VGMA female Artiste of the Year, iOna responded in the negative, explaining that she did not want to be misinterprated.

“The reason is that Ghanaians can easily misinterpret your intentions. They can attribute it to me wanting fame or chasing clout so I kept quiet an dealt with it myself,” she said.

Late Ebony’s voice is far better than many gospel musicians – Prophet Oduro https://www.adomonline.com/late-ebonys-voice-is-far-better-than-many-gospel-musicians-prophet-oduro/ Fri, 18 Mar 2022 13:18:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2092825 Ghanaian preacher and the founder of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Oduro, has posthumously eulogized songstress Ebony Reigns.

The prophet opined the late Ebony Reigns was destined to do well, but for an accident that claimed her life when she was at the peak of her career.

To him, her melodious voice was a blessing; one that even many gospel artistes do not have.

“Ebony Reigns was also gifted. Ebony’s voice is far better than many gospel musicians. You can’t take that away from her. She was a wondeful musician,” he said.

Prophet Oduro made the statement while making a case for continuous praises unto God at the just ended International Youth Empowerment Summit (iYes).

According to him, though some artistes do not have the best voice, they try their possible best to render praises to God, and he called on others to emulate that.

He further attributed divorce, setbacks and negativities prevailing in the lives of others to their failure to use their voices for a divine purpose.

Madam Beatrice Oppong Marthin entertained guests who showed up for her daughter’s posthumous birthday party Wednesday, February 16.

But for an accident which claimed her life four years ago, Ebony would have turned 24 years.

No eye was wet at the party as guests chose to celebrate her legacy rather than memorialize their loss.

As guests partied deep into the night, Madam Beatrice took over the dancefloor, shaking her body to Ebony’s Poison, which earned her a nomination for the African Fans’ Favorite category at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2017 edition.

Guests cheered her on as she sang word-for-word and the cameras did not stop flicking.

Ebony ‘visited’ us on the day we visited her grave – Starboy Kwarteng reveals [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/ebony-visited-us-on-the-day-we-visited-her-grave-starboy-kwarteng-reveals-video/ Mon, 14 Feb 2022 16:00:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2079693 Nana Poku Kwarteng, the father of late Ebony Reigns, says the former Rufftown Records musician visited his family on her death anniversary.

He made this revelation in an interview on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall with Mike 2 last Saturday.

“She was there. She came home and I could feel her. The television came on by itself and the channel that came on was talking about her life. I knew she was trying to send us a message so I called the others to come and see,” he said.

According to him, he still communicates with his daughter (even though he wouldn’t clearly disclose how he does it) – he claimed he hears her voice and they communicate verbally.

On the 8th she came home. She wanted the people in the house to know she has arrived. Before we went to the cemetery, I was arranging a few things. I have two halls – one down and up.

I went up and the moment I got there, the TV came on by itself. So I made everyone aware of her presence. We couldn’t see her physically but I think she announced herself. The TV channel too proved she was the one who did that.

According to the father of the late dancehall musician, he strongly believes that “her death was orchestrated.”

Ebony Reigns was remembered by her family as they paid a glowing homage to her at her graveside at the Osu Cemetery last week.

This was in remembrance of her legacy as February 8, 2022, marks exactly four years since she was killed in an accident.

Exactly four years ago on a Thursday dawn, Ebony breathed her last at the Bechem Government Hospital, but Bullet said he is yet to come to terms with her absence.

In an Instagram post, he wrote: “You will always be in my heart because in there you are still alive. Forever reign!”.

Despite controversies surrounding her death and the accident which claimed the lives of two other people – her best friend and military escort – still unsettled, Bullet has ignored all rumours to showcase his emotions.

With regards to the controversies, Ebony’s father, Mr Kwarteng is positive the day of her reckoning is near, and it would be a physical one.

He said Ebony did not die a natural death, for which she will avenge and deprive culprits of their ability to walk.

Mr Kwarteng believes that there is a mystery behind the sudden demise of his daughter.

In an interview with KMJ on Daybreak Hitz, Starboy Kwarteng said,he had a very strong bond with his daughter and that transcended after her death.

According to him, they communicate spiritually. He also said that he has seen her in his dreams twice.

“Nana Hemaa Ebony and I were so close, we had a bond and that gives me the opportunity to speak to her. I am a spiritualist. I have seen her in my dreams twice and she spoke to me. She questioned me on why I have folded my arms to watch what is going on. It’s a shame. Nana Hemaa wishes for us to find out how she died. I have always believed that there is much more to the queen’s death. I expected more. I think the driver should have been summoned to explain what really happened. I am still not convinced. I was told the driver’s license had expired three years before the accident. Nobody seemed to care about the driver who killed three (3) people and was driving around with an expired license. I was very disappointed.”

The 8th of February 2022, marks the fourth anniversary of the death of the posthumous, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year.

The popular dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns, died in a gruesome road accident that occurred on the Sunyani-Kumasi road in 2018.

The 20-year-old singer and three other persons were on board a Jeep with registration AS 497-16, travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi when a head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi occurred.

The driver of the vehicle escaped death, however, two other occupants — a military officer identified as Francis Atsu Vondee and lady identified only as Frankie — died later at the Bechem Government Hospital after they were rushed there.

She has been accused of emulating fallen singer Ebony Reigns though she has denied that on many occasions.

According to majority who have chanced on her Obra music video,  it can be likened to Ebony’s Maame Hwe video, which preached against domestic violence.

One user, Agnes Kyeremateng, who commented on the video few minutes after it was posted, advised her to find her true self.

She wrote: Why the copy copy though? Is that what you want your brand to be known for? An Ebony counterfeit? You have a great voice and I hope you find yourself soon. [SIC]

Meanwhile, there were others who also supported her by asking her to keep up with her career.

According to them, people are entitled to become who they want to be and her looks shouldn’t stop here from doing music against the odds that she looks like Ebony.

One of such people was Sweet Titi, who had this to say:

Those complaining about her style have no case kraaaa, especially the women, don’t you people wear Brazilian, Indian and other hairs? Are they your real hair? Who has never copied from someone in this world?

We all have our choices so if you don’t agree with hers there’s no need to condemn her. You people did same to Wendy Shay. Women/Blacks will always remain our own enemy. I think she has a great voice and we’d need more of her music [SIC], she said.

Ebony’s father gives full details of police investigation into her death [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/ebonys-father-gives-full-details-of-police-investigation-into-her-death-video/ Tue, 11 Feb 2020 12:29:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1751746 Opoku Kwarteng, the father of late dancehall musician, Ebony, has given details of investigations carried out on his daughter’s death by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Mr Kwarteng has disclosed, probably for the first time, that the reports of the investigations as were made available to him indicated that there was no foul play in the accident which claimed her life.

The outcome of the investigations, according to him, also meant no one could be held accountable for the happening.

On Ebony’s driver who was the only survivor of the crash, Starboy Kwarteng, as he is affectionately called, said his request that there must be some further investigations about his account on the accident was turned down.

“After the former CID boss, Maame Tiwaa, presented the report, I questioned it but she told me the driver also risked his life so they have nothing against him.

I wanted him [the driver] to tell me something since he is the only soul alive after the incident but it did not happen,” he told Adom TV.

Mr Kwarteng added he petitioned the Inspector General for further investigations of which an investigation team was set but their response was shocking.

“The head of the team told me the boy should be let go because he is a young guy of 27years and when detained will die in cells. That’s the country we live in; Ebony was just 21 but the guy in question is 27; who is younger,” he asked.

He noted that the driver failed to fulfil the social contract between him and Ebony when he failed to take her safely to her destination.

Mr Kwarteng says he is perplexed the police were retraining the driver from giving a full account of what transpired on the night of her death.

Ebony died in a car crash on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway after visiting her mother on February 8, 2018, together with her friend, Franky Kuri and a bodyguard, Francis Vondee.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he said it hurts him when he hears rumours like that.

“Let me be real with you, I am a bad boy and growing up, I’ve seen fame, I’ve travelled, I’ve sung and I’ve seen women, why will I have to sleep with someone before I work with her,” he quizzed.

According to him, he met Ebony when she was young [19 years] and only thought of her as a kid.

Bullet said he was inspired by her voice and decided to make her a hit regardless of the criticisms he received from friends.

The artiste manager told Andy Dosty, host of the show that “the very first day I met her, I took her to the studio because she sent me a voice note, I fell in love with the voice. I had written ‘Dancefloor’ and she delivered it.”

“When they say sleeping with her, it hurts because I am not that kind of guy,” Bullet added.

He said people spread these rumours in an attempt to collapse the career he’s built over the years.

I officially accept Starboy Kwarteng nickname – Ebony’s Father https://www.adomonline.com/i-officially-accept-starboy-kwarteng-nickname-ebonys-father/ Sun, 17 Feb 2019 12:20:30 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1648461 When Ebony died, her father, Nana Opoku Kwarteng became the first point of call for the media not only because he was her dad but because he had been unflinching in his support for her.

However, at a point, his many interviews and his public feud with Ebony’s former manager, Bullet, began to irritate many Ghanaians who felt he was milking his daughter’s death to become popular.

That was how the nickname Starboy Kwarteng was birthed with some people insinuating he wanted to become a star so badly.

Showbiz recently caught up with Nana Opoku Kwarteng and in answer to whether he was okay with the nickname, he said he had officially accepted the name.

“Oh I am ok with the name; I think it is something I like. The word star alone is something anyone would want to associate him or herself with so it is fine by me.

“Again, you cannot fight the media or anyone; if they want to call you by a name, they will no matter what you do. In this life, the more you tell people you do not want something, the more they do it so it is fine with me, I accept it,” he said.

In that interview, Nana Opoku Kwarteng revealed that he hates the February 8 date because of his daughter who he affectionately called Ohemaa.

“I do not like that day and date at all, to me, I wish it didn’t even exist. That is the day that tragic thing happened, my daughter, Ohemaa lost her life and it’s just sad.

“Honestly, though ideally, we are supposed to celebrate her one year on that fateful day I do not see anything about it that is worth celebrating and it is not written anywhere that we have to do it on that same day,” he said.

Typically, death anniversaries are commemorated so in keeping with that tradition, Nana Opoku Kwarteng said he will do something in his daughter’s memory.

“The real thing will happen on March, 31. That is when we will roll out something for the public consumption,” he said.

Like Ebony, Mzbel was often criticized for what she wore on stage, and in her music videos during the prime of her career.
She was sexually abused on stage by students during a performance at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
When she was attacked and raped at her Weija home years ago, it didn’t elicit any sympathy from people who swore she deserved it for being, literally the face of moral decadence in the country.

Manufacturers of Ebony’s casket speak https://www.adomonline.com/manufacturers-of-ebonys-casket-speaks/ Wed, 28 Mar 2018 07:15:42 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1031151 The coffin which was used to bury Ebony has stoked debates as people question the propriety of using one with a black colour.
Some have said that there could be spiritual connotations to the choice of colour for the casket but Michael Dela, Chief Executive Officer of Gisarg Caskets and Coffins, manufacturers of the coffin used to bury dance hall artiste, has said there is no cause for alarm.
In an interview with Citi Showbiz, Michael said his company designed the coffin without Ebony in mind.
“I must be honest, we didn’t even have Ebony in mind but when we were done with it, I saw the casket and said this will actually suit Ebony. She’s called Ebony and her name represents the colour black,” he said. Contrary to debate going on, black casket is actually quite common.
WATCH: VIDEO: I can’t tell if Ebony’s Dad is an occult – Lawrence Tetteh
“One of the caskets that we sell a lot is the black one. This one was actually one of our newer designs. It was purely done in our quest to do something unique,” he said.
He said people who have younger deceased tend to go for caskets that are dark. But occasionally you get people that go for the black casket just for the beauty of it.
According to him his company which is located at Osu – Forico Mall, had a business relationship with Transitions, the firm that organized Ebony’s funeral and that they only had a call at the last hour that the family had settled on the black casket.
“We got the call at the last hour. It was on a Friday so with regards to what colour they had chosen earlier, we have no idea,” he added.
He said, the colour was pure arts and that he does not subscribe to the notion that it may have spiritual meanings.
“We don’t manufacture things according to people’s spiritual inclinations,” he intimated.

This debate is hinged on a recent interview Dr. Lawrence Tetteh who paid for the casket, granted Adom TV.
According to him even though he paid for the casket, he allowed the father to choose which one he wanted.
“I had gone with Bishop Quaye and a woman by name Julie and Ebony’s parents to buy the coffin. I told Ebony’s parents to choose the coffin they wanted for me to pay because she was their child and I couldn’t decide for them. What I paid for was not what was used in burying her. On the day of the funeral, Ebony’s father called and told me that, on the evening they were going for her body, he saw another coffin which looked nice and so he settled on that one rather and that it was the same price as the one he’d earlier picked. I didn’t see the coffin until the funeral event as I was not around when they went for the body. I must be honest with you, I wasn’t happy when I saw that coffin,” he told Adom TV.
He further stated that when he asked Ebony’s father why they chose the black coffin, he said they found out it was nicer than what they had seen earlier.

“I’m over 50 years but I’ve never seen a black coffin in my life. What I’m saying is that, I and my team saw that black coffin only when we got to the funeral grounds. So I asked Ebony’s father about it and he said he found the black one nicer than what I’d seen earlier and that I told him to make a choice and that’s exactly what he’s done. He’s the father and so he had the right to make certain decisions. Personally, I don’t judge people because nobody knows the secret places of our hearts,” the man of God stated.
