We will continue with Premier League games despite robbery attack – Berekum Chelsea https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-continue-with-premier-league-games-despite-robbery-attack-berekum-chelsea/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 14:12:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650808 Communication Team Member of Berekum Chelsea Albert Diewuo has confirmed that the club will continue to compete in the Ghana Premier League, with players receiving psychological support to cope with the situation.

The playing body and technical team members were attacked by armed robbers while returning from their Matchday 29 game against FC Samartex at the DUN’s Park on Sunday.

The incident led to the tragic death of forward Dominic Frimpong after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Speaking on the Ultimate Sports Show on Asempa FM, Albert Diewuo stated that the team is not considering a withdrawal but will continue in the league with the help of a psychologist following the traumatic experience.

“The team is traumatised after the incident. We will continue with the league and rely on our psychologist to help the players recover for the next games. We are not considering withdrawing,” he said.

When asked about their security arrangements, Albert Diewuo explained that the team’s travel plans often depend on the availability of police support, stating, “Sometimes we travel with security, sometimes we don’t. We request a police escort; if we get it, we go with them; if not, we move on our own. Yesterday we had no police escort.”

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen team travel security for domestic competitions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.

ICS boss attacked in Bolgatanga during anti-dog and cat meat campaign https://www.adomonline.com/ics-boss-attacked-in-bolgatanga-during-anti-dog-and-cat-meat-campaign/ Wed, 25 Mar 2026 09:44:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2643835 The Executive Director of the Institute of Community Sustainability, Eric Jerry Aidoo, has been attacked in Bolgatanga while leading a nationwide campaign against the consumption of dog and cat meat.

The incident has forced the organisation to temporarily suspend its public sensitisation tour aimed at promoting animal welfare and discouraging cruelty against domestic animals.

Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Aidoo said he was nearly lynched during an outreach engagement with residents.

“I was nearly lynched while carrying out our campaign to educate the public on the dangers of consuming dog and cat meat,” he recounted.

Despite the attack, he assured that he is safe and remains committed to the campaign.

“I am safe and unshaken. The campaign has not been cancelled; it has only been suspended due to safety concerns,” he stated.

He reiterated the group’s message that “cats and dogs are family, not food.”

Mr. Aidoo is calling on the Interior Minister, the Inspector-General of Police, and other authorities to provide security protection for the team as it resumes its activities.

He also revealed shifting trends in consumption, indicating that the Eastern Region now leads in dog meat consumption, overtaking the Greater Accra Region, while the Central Region has surpassed the Volta Region in cat meat consumption.

The organisation says its campaign remains focused on changing public attitudes and promoting the humane treatment of animals.

GNAT condemns violent attack on West Africa SHS teachers https://www.adomonline.com/gnat-condemns-violent-attack-on-west-africa-shs-teachers/ Mon, 16 Feb 2026 06:32:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2631294 The Madina Adenta Abokobi Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has strongly condemned the violent attack on teachers of West Africa Senior High School, describing the incident as unacceptable and calling for swift justice.

The attack occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, during school hours when some male students, believed to be from Frafraha Community Senior High School, were found in a classroom at West Africa SHS with female students, in violation of school rules that prohibit unauthorised visitors on campus.

The situation was detected by a small group of teachers supervising students while most members of staff were attending the school’s 80th anniversary launch. The teachers, led by Mr Nicholas Teye, confronted the intruders and directed them to leave the premises.

The visitors reportedly resisted the directive and verbally abused the teachers, leading to a heated confrontation. With support from additional staff, the intruders were eventually forced off the campus.

However, at about 4:30 p.m. the same day, the group allegedly returned on motorbikes with armed accomplices and launched a violent attack on the teachers.

GNAT said the attackers used sticks and clubs to assault the teachers, leaving Mr Teye — who appeared to be their main target — with physical injuries and psychological trauma. Teachers present managed to repel the attack after several minutes, forcing the assailants to flee.

The incident has been reported to the Adenta Police, who issued medical forms to Mr Teye for treatment and have commenced investigations.

GNAT is demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved, insisting that the perpetrators must face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent.

The association has also called on the Ghana Education Service to launch its own investigations and apply disciplinary sanctions against any students found culpable.

As part of its protest, GNAT has directed teachers within the Madina Adenta Abokobi enclave to wear red armbands to school on Monday, February 16, 2026, as a sign of solidarity and protest against violence targeting teachers.

The association further urged chiefs, opinion leaders and community members to help educate the public on the dangers of violence against teachers, stressing that educators play a critical role in nation-building and must be protected.

GNAT warned that it remains on red alert and will continue to monitor developments closely, adding that it may consider additional actions if justice is delayed.

Bloodshed in Kpandai as rival chieftaincy factions clash over gravel pit https://www.adomonline.com/bloodshed-in-kpandai-as-rival-chieftaincy-factions-clash-over-gravel-pit/ Sun, 08 Feb 2026 11:33:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2628794 A violent confrontation between supporters of two rival chiefs in Kpandai, Northern Region, has left two men fighting for their lives and a trail of charred machinery in its wake.

The bloody skirmish, which erupted on Saturday, 7th February 2026, was triggered by a bitter territorial dispute over a gravel pit currently being utilised for the rehabilitation of the Dobong community road.

The conflict reached a breaking point when an attempt to extract materials for the infrastructure project turned into a pitched battle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the violence escalated rapidly as supporters from the Nkanchina and Nana Ntosah factions faced off with lethal weapons.

The roots of the violence lie in conflicting claims of land ownership.

The witness explained that the Nkanchina chief had formally granted permission for the extraction of gravel to facilitate the Dobong road works. However, this authority was challenged by another local leader, Nana Ntosah, who allegedly moved to forcibly halt the operations.

The situation spiralled out of control when Nana Ntosah reportedly dispatched heavy machinery to the site to seize control.

“Nana Ntosah reportedly sent payloaders to the site, but supporters of the Nkanchina chief resisted the move and prevented the equipment from operating,” the witness reported, describing the moments before the violence began.

The ensuing chaos saw the use of cutlasses and fire, leading to injuries and property damage:

Human Toll: Two individuals sustained severe cutlass wounds and were rushed to the Kpandai District Hospital, where they remain under medical supervision.
Arson: Six motorbikes belonging to workers and supporters were doused in petrol and set ablaze during the height of the riot.
Property Damage: Operations at the gravel pit have been completely suspended following the destruction of equipment and the onset of hostilities.
A swift deployment by the Kpandai District Police Command was necessary to restore a fragile peace and prevent the violence from spreading to the main township.

Armed officers have since cordoned off the gravel pit and the Dobong road project site to deter further incursions.

The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is expected to convene an emergency meeting to address the underlying chieftaincy tensions that have long simmered in the area.

Nigeria attack: Pupils abducted from Catholic school https://www.adomonline.com/nigeria-attack-pupils-abducted-from-catholic-school/ Fri, 21 Nov 2025 18:00:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602666 An unknown number of pupils have been abducted by armed men from a Catholic school in central Nigeria, the second mass school kidnapping this week.

The latest attack targeted St Mary’s School in Papiri, Niger state, where authorities had already ordered the temporary closure of all boarding schools due to rising security threats.

Details remain unclear but residents fear that close to 100 students and staff may have been taken away during the early-morning raid.

Nigeria has faced a renewed wave of attacks by armed groups in recent days, including the kidnapping on Monday of more than 20 schoolgirls, who the BBC has been told are Muslim, from a boarding school in neighbouring Kebbi state.

A church was also attacked in the south-western Kwara state, with two people killed and 38 abducted while the service was being broadcast online.

Police said armed men – locally known as bandits – stormed St Mary’s School on Friday at about 02:00 local time (01:00 GMT) and abducted an unconfirmed number of students from their hostel.

Fear and uncertainty have gripped the area as families wait for news.

The authorities in Niger state said the school had disregarded an order to close all boarding facilities following intelligence warnings of a heightened risk of attacks.

“Regrettably, St Mary’s School proceeded to reopen and resume academic activities without notifying or seeking clearance from the state government, thereby exposing pupils and the staff to avoidable risk,” they said in a statement.

The school has not commented.

The police said that security agencies were “combing the forests with a view to rescue the abducted students”.

The attack follows claims by US President Donald Trump that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria, an allegation dismissed by the Nigerian government.

Earlier this month, Trump said he would send troops into Nigeria “guns a-blazing” if its government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.

The Nigerian government has pushed back on these claims, describing them as “a gross misrepresentation of reality”.

An official said that “terrorists attack all who reject their murderous ideology – Muslims, Christians and those of no faith alike”.

Nigeria is currently grappling multiple overlapping security crises.

The country’s 220 million people are roughly evenly split between followers of the two religions, with Muslims in the majority in the north.

The kidnapping of people for ransom by criminal gangs, known locally as bandits, has become a major problem in many parts of the country.

In the north-east, jihadist groups have been battling the state for more than a decade. Organisations monitoring violence say most of the victims of these groups are Muslim because most attacks happen in the north.

In the centre of the country, there are also frequently deadly attacks between herders, who are mostly Muslim, on farmers, who are largely Christian. However, analysts say these are often motivated by competition for resources such as water or land, rather than religion.

Local media report that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom for those abducted from the church in Eruku, Kwara state.

The payment of ransoms has been outlawed in an attempt to cut the supply of money to the criminal gangs but to little effect.

Two of the schoolgirls abducted on Monday in Maga, Kebbi state have managed to escape, while 23 are still missing. Two people were killed in that attack. They were both Muslim.

President Bola Tinubu this week postponed his foreign trips to address the rising wave of attacks across Africa’s most populous country.

Coalition Against Galamsey condemns violent attack on NAIMOS officers, demands swift action https://www.adomonline.com/coalition-against-galamsey-condemns-violent-attack-on-naimos-officers-demands-swift-action/ Wed, 05 Nov 2025 12:25:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596560 The Coalition Against Galamsey, Ghana, has condemned the recent violent attack on officers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) and other security personnel during an enforcement operation in the Asutifi North District.

In a statement, the Coalition described the incident, reportedly involving a sitting Member of Parliament who allegedly incited residents to confront state officials, as a “grave affront to national security, democratic governance, and the rule of law.”

The Coalition stressed that illegal mining, or galamsey, continues to devastate Ghana’s rivers, forests, and communities, and any attack on enforcement officers represents an attack on the state and the collective future of its citizens.

Calling for immediate accountability, the group urged President Akufo-Addo to publicly reaffirm his zero-tolerance stance against political interference in anti-galamsey efforts and to direct an independent investigation into the attack.

It also called for the prosecution of all perpetrators, regardless of political status, and for improved security protection for NAIMOS personnel operating in high-risk zones.

The Coalition further appealed to Parliament to initiate an internal disciplinary probe into the conduct of the implicated MP and to adopt a bipartisan resolution condemning violence against enforcement officers.

It also encouraged civil society, traditional leaders, the media, and citizens to speak out against impunity, stressing that silence would only embolden lawlessness and environmental destruction.

“The Republic must act firmly and transparently to protect its officers, safeguard its natural heritage, and defend the rule of law,” the statement added.

The accused, Ebenezer Yaw Ankomah, a 29-year-old student; Festus Annor, 27, an okada rider; Eugene Ekow Enchil, 32, a dispatch rider; Anthony Amponsah, 25, a blogger; Muskin Mohammed, 28, a dispatch rider; Ishawu Mumuni, 25, an okada rider; and Banisah Joseph, 31, also a dispatch rider, were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer, and unlawful assembly.

According to court documents (Police Tesano Case R.O. No. 299/2025), the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. when the accused persons, led by the first accused, Ankomah, allegedly organised about 40 motorbike riders to storm the premises of the Tesano Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

The group reportedly arrived at the station, blaring their horns and chanting war songs. Police said the men attempted to stage a riot over undisclosed grievances.

The complainant, Superintendent Mrs. Comfort Forkah, the Divisional MTTD Commander at Tesano, stepped out of her office to engage the group but was allegedly attacked and assaulted without provocation. With the help of her team, the police managed to subdue and arrest seven of the men while others fled the scene.

The suspects were later handed over to the Tesano Divisional CID for further investigation. Following police inquiries, they were charged and brought before the Achimota District Court.

They face three counts, Conspiracy to Commit Crime (Assault on Public Officer), Assault on Public Officer contrary to Section 205 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and Unlawful Assembly contrary to Section 296(21) of the same Act.

The prosecutor, B. Arther, told the court that the actions of the accused were not only unlawful but also endangered public order.

The case, investigated by Detective Sergeant Meshack Nkrumah, has been adjourned for further hearing as the accused await the court’s decision on bail or remand.

Okada rider survives brutal machete attack in Boinso, suspect arrested https://www.adomonline.com/okada-rider-survives-brutal-machete-attack-in-boinso-suspect-arrested/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 20:30:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546986 A commercial motorbike rider, Emmanuel, popularly known as Suro Obaa in the Boinso community of the Western North Region, has narrowly survived a vicious machete attack believed to have been aimed at ending his life.

The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, June 20, between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, as Emmanuel was returning home from work.

According to eyewitness reports and police information, the attack happened at a notorious stretch of rough road in Boinso, where motorcyclists are often forced to slow down due to poor conditions.

While maneuvering cautiously through the area, Emmanuel was suddenly ambushed by an individual wielding a cutlass. The attacker slashed him multiple times in the head and neck. Bleeding profusely, Emmanuel was only saved by the timely arrival of another motorbike rider, which scared the assailant off.

Despite his injuries, Emmanuel was able to name his attacker, one Abu, also known by the nickname Subzero, a fellow Okada rider from the same town. He identified the suspect’s distinctive outfit, a Barcelona jersey, which police later confirmed was worn by Abu at the time of his arrest.

Emmanuel is currently undergoing emergency surgery at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi, near Enchi, while the suspect remains in custody at the Enchi Municipal Police Station pending further investigation.

Though no formal charges beyond the assault have been confirmed, some residents allege that the suspect may be linked to a suspected local syndicate involved in the sale of human body parts.

These allegations, according to community sources, are tied to previous cases of unexplained disappearances of strangers who reportedly boarded commercial motorbikes operated by individuals suspected to be members of the group.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and to verify community concerns.

A humanoid robot was seen attacking its handler while attempting to break free from restraints, in a scene viewers have branded “dystopian.”

In CCTV footage from a factory in China, the black robot is seen attached to a miniature crane before suddenly beginning to swing its arms back and forth.

As it lashed out violently, a man sitting behind a nearby computer ducked, while another man standing behind the robot quickly backed away.

The robot—seemingly acting on its own—raised its arms into the air and brought them down repeatedly, with increasing speed and force.

It then began walking forward, thrashing wildly in an apparent attempt to break free from the crane.

The two men flinched and cowered, raising their arms to shield their faces as they moved out of its path.

Gambaga College of Education gets 24-hour police security after student attack https://www.adomonline.com/gambaga-college-of-education-gets-24-hour-police-security-after-student-attack/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 09:06:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2515914

The Ghana Police Service has deployed 24-hour security to the Gambaga College of Education in the North-East Region following a recent attack on eight male students, which resulted in the death of one and left another with gunshot wounds.

In addition to the campus security, a police patrol team has been assigned to the area where the attack occurred to ensure the safety of students.

Fact-Finding Visit

The Gambaga District Police Commander, Superintendent Francis Adjei Brobbey, disclosed this when the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor, led a fact-finding team to the school last Friday.

Prof. Jinapor and his team met with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and the management of the college, visited the injured student at the hospital, and paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Mamprugu Kingdom, the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga.

Supt. Brobbey assured that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, stating, “We have put in place informants to get the culprits arrested to bring them to book.”

Incident Details

The first attack occurred on Friday, February 14, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. when unknown assailants shot a student engaged in out-programme teaching practice outside the college campus. The student was rushed to the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu and later referred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Less than a month later, on March 12, 2025, at around 11 p.m., another group of final-year students, returning from watching a football match in the community, was ambushed by two gunmen. The attackers opened fire on eight students, killing one and leaving another with serious gunshot wounds. The injured student is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre.

The Principal of the college, Kassim Korah Nantomah, described the attacks as deeply concerning, warning that such incidents could damage the school’s reputation. “If such incidents are regularly recorded, it will definitely push away potential students,” he said.

No Shutdown of College

Prof. Jinapor welcomed the deployment of 24-hour security and assured students that the situation did not warrant a shutdown of the college. He urged students to remain calm while security agencies worked to restore safety.

He also cautioned that negative publicity could affect the college’s growth, saying, “When the institution is always in the public domain for bad reasons, nobody would want to enrol their ward, which is likely to make the institution’s survival very difficult.”

Ensuring Security and Support

While advising students to be security-conscious and avoid actions that could put them at risk, he called on community members, college management, and students to safeguard the school’s reputation.

Prof. Jinapor further announced that GTEC, in collaboration with the college’s management, would cover the medical expenses of the injured student and support the family of the deceased for a befitting burial.

Marseille condemn ‘personal attacks’ on Rabiot at PSG https://www.adomonline.com/marseille-condemn-personal-attacks-on-rabiot-at-psg/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 01:56:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2515811 Marseille have condemned the “personal attacks” aimed at midfielder Adrien Rabiot and his family during the 3-1 defeat at Paris St-Germain on Sunday.

The match at Parc des Princes was overshadowed by homophobic and racist chants – referencing Marseille’s large Arab population – from some PSG fans, as well as banners directed at Rabiot and his family.

Rabiot alleged PSG fans insulted his father, who died in 2019. The player’s mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, has lodged a complaint.

“The personal attacks, particularly targeting Adrien Rabiot and his family, are despicable and unacceptable,” Marseille said.

“The club, which wishes to offer its full support and solidarity to its midfielder and his loved ones, announces that it joins the complaint filed against unknown persons by Adrien Rabiot’s family.”

The club said they will “continue to be uncompromising and inflexible against any insulting remarks against the club, its management, its employees or its supporters”.

The Paris-born France midfielder made 227 appearances for PSG between 2012 and 2019, and joined rivals Marseille after leaving Juventus last summer.

French referees can stop play if supporters chant homophobic or racist slurs inside stadiums, but Sunday’s official Clement Turpin did not.

“I don’t understand why the match wasn’t stopped,” Rabiot’s mother told Radio France.

“I don’t understand why nobody is outraged. Why are some matches stopped and not others?”

GJA Ashanti condemns attack on 4 journalists at Council of State election chaos https://www.adomonline.com/gja-ashanti-condemns-attack-on-4-journalists-at-council-of-state-election-chaos/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 17:48:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503821 The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the attack of journalists during Tuesday’s Council of State election in the region.

A group of thugs purported to be supporters of one of the 12 candidates in the poll barged into the Regional Coordinating Council venue and disrupted the election process on Tuesday.

The thugs destroyed ballot papers and other voting electoral materials, ending the voting exercise abruptly.

Four journalists were physically assaulted in the raid and eventually hospitalized.

In a statement, the GJA-Ashanti described the attack as “vicious” and “unprovoked” thwarting reporters on ground from performing their duties on the day.

“Some ‘macho men’ believed to be linked to the ruling party, National Democratic Congress, caused a stir when they stormed the place and disrupted the exercise. They destroyed all the ballots just when the officials of the Electoral Commission were sorting the ballots,” read the statement signed by Kingsley E. Hope, Regional Chairman.

A complaint has formally been lodged at the police while the journalists receive treatment at various hospitals including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

“This heinous act of violence is a reprehensible affront to press freedom and a stark reminder of the perilous environment in which journalists operate. The fact that this attack occurred in broad daylight, with impunity, is a damning indictment of the authorities’ failure to protect journalists,” the statement read.

The GJA is demanding that the perpetrators be brought to book as the violent attacks and intimidation on journalists have become recurrent.

“This trend must be halted, and those responsible must be held accountable. Attacks on journalists not only harm individuals but also erode trust in institutions and undermine the public’s right to information. We stand in solidarity with the victims and all journalists who face threats, intimidation, and violence in the pursuit of truth,” the statement read.

The statement added: “GJA will not be silenced, and we will continue to demand justice and accountability, and call on authorities to investigate this incident thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are held accountable”.

Governments and leaders worldwide have been urged to prioritize journalists’ safety and also protect the rights of media professionals to report freely and without fear of reprisal.

TUC condemns attacks on public sector workers and state property destruction https://www.adomonline.com/tuc-condemns-attacks-on-public-sector-workers-and-state-property-destruction/ Fri, 17 Jan 2025 10:17:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2494026 The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has expressed deep concern and outrage over recent attacks on public sector workers and the destruction of state properties by groups claiming allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement signed by Secretary General Joshua Ansah, the TUC described the incidents as unwarranted and called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action.

The union criticised the Ghana Police Service for failing to prevent these acts of vandalism, which it said occurred in the presence of police personnel.

“These acts of vandalism have stained an otherwise peaceful election and the beautiful transfer of political power,” the statement read.

They added that the damage caused will require resources that could have been directed toward addressing economic challenges.

The TUC urged the President to empower the police to arrest and prosecute perpetrators and called on Ghanaians to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy.

The union further appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from such activities, emphasising that such behaviours undermine the country’s progress and tarnish its image following the peaceful transition of power on January 7, 2025.

“Shortly after the attack, a police patrol team arrived and escorted us to Wenchi, where we filed a report at the police station. I must commend the police officer who was with us for his professionalism in ensuring our safety. Our flagbearer and all team members are safe,” he added.

CSU takes steps to address alleged attack on its student during public lecture https://www.adomonline.com/csu-takes-steps-to-address-alleged-attack-on-its-student-during-public-lecture/ Sun, 23 Jun 2024 18:04:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2412214 The Christian Service University (CSU) is taking the necessary steps to holistically address an alleged attack on one of its students during a public lecture addressed by former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

A statement issued by the University said the Dean of Students on behalf of management had reached out to the said student to provide the necessary psycho-social support.

It said the public lecture was generally successful and that the isolated incident was regrettable.

“As an academic institution, we believe in multiparty democracy as the bedrock for sustainable development and security in Ghana. We consistently maintain neutrality in all our dealings with established political order of the day,” part of the statement read.

The statement, signed by the Director for Institutional Advancement and Public Relations, highlighted numerous public lectures organised by the University over the years with distinguished personalities as guest speakers.

It further explained that as part of its one year-long activities marking the 50th anniversary of the University since its establishment, three public lectures had been lined up by the planning committee.

This means beyond the lecture addressed by the Former President, there are two more to be addressed by the Vice President and Flag Bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and an alumnus of the University.

The objective of the lectures, according to the statement, is to partner the political giants in the country to conceptualise new ways of sustaining our democracy and the recovery of the Ghanaian economy.

In line with this, the statement said the University would continue to pray and work towards peace and harmony in Ghana.

The 50th anniversary is scheduled to be climaxed with a grand durbar on September 27, 2024.

In a video shared on her Instagram account, the So You Think You Can Dance alum recalled being physically assaulted by a stranger with a knife.

“There was a knife,” she captioned the video, which saw her being treated by first responders as a yellow knife lay next to her on the pavement. She continued, “Acid attack on me in the U.K. in the middle of a live stream.”

She further noted, “There’s been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake-up call.” The dancer also asked her followers to contact Korramanagement@gmail.com if they have any information “as to the attacker, black female. 5 foot.”

The 32-year-old then wrote in the comments section, “Guys I’m in the hospital. Safety with travel is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The acid was salicylic and I was lucky. Love you guys.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police revealed to E! News that police received a call on Thursday afternoon regarding an assault in central London.

“Officers attended and found a woman in her 30s with a cut to her hand and reporting a liquid had been thrown at her face,” the spokesperson said. “She was taken to hospital for treatment. The liquid was later confirmed to be a non-noxious cosmetic item.”

Israel says defences are ‘ready’ as Iran attacks https://www.adomonline.com/israel-says-defences-are-ready-as-iran-attacks/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 22:32:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2380858 Iran has launched aerial drones at Israel, appearing to mark a widely anticipated reprisal attack.

Israeli TV said the salvo was expected to reach Israel at 02:00 on Sunday (23:00 GMT on Saturday).

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had launched missiles as well as drones “at specific targets”.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said they were on high alert and “monitoring all targets”. Israel’s prime minster convened a meeting of his war cabinet.

Israel, Lebanon and Iraq have closed their airspaces, and Syria and Jordan have put their air defences on alert.

Iran had vowed to retaliate for an attack on its consulate in Syria on 1 April, which killed seven military officers, including a top commander.

It accused Israel of carrying out that attack. Israel neither confirmed nor denied it.

Shortly before news of Iran’s drone launches, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country’s “defensive systems” were deployed.

“We are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

“We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries.”

After news broke of the attack, US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said: “President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad.”

“The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defence against these threats from Iran.”

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Iran’s “reckless” attack, vowing that the UK would “continue to stand up for Israel’s security and that of all our regional partners”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) – the most powerful branch of its armed forces – said it had launched the attack “in retaliation against the Zionist regime’s [Israel] repeated crimes, including the attack on the Iranian embassy’s consulate in Damascus”.

Deputy Fire Commander for the Ahafo Region, DO1 Percy Odoi Anang, explained that officers from Kenyasi were viciously attacked by residents of Hwidiem when they arrived to assist in fighting a fire outbreak in the Zongo area.

The attack stemmed from residents’ frustration over what they perceived as a delayed response.

Despite efforts by the officers to explain that they were there to support their colleagues due to lack of fighting resources, residents refused to listen and proceeded to assault them.

As a result, four officers sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized at Saint Elizabeth Hospital.

DO1 Percy Odoi Anang said such actions by residents are unacceptable and unlawful.

He stressed that, the Fire Service prioritizes prompt response to fire incidents but faces challenges in areas where fire stations and equipment are lacking.

He urged residents to refrain from resorting to violence and instead support the Fire Service in their efforts to protect communities.

He further highlighted the need for understanding and cooperation from residents, particularly in areas where fire stations are scarce, emphasizing that the Fire Service relies on mutual support to effectively address fire outbreaks and ensure public safety.

Referee Anthony Taylor attacked by Roma fans after Europa League defeat [VIDEO] https://www.adomonline.com/referee-anthony-taylor-attacked-by-roma-fans-after-europa-league-defeat-video/ Fri, 02 Jun 2023 10:29:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2255916 Referee Anthony Taylor was forced to run for his dear life as angry AS Roma fans attacked him at the airport as he made his way home from refereeing the Europa League final.

The English referee took charge of the final in Budapest between serial winners Sevilla and Jose Mourinho’s Serie A side.

It was a busy night for the Englishman, who flashed 13 yellows as the La Liga outfit continued their incredible record in the competition, winning it for a seventh time in 18 years, stretching back to when it was still known as the UEFA Cup.

They fell behind to Paulo Dybala’s opener before a Gianluca Mancini own goal squared things up ten minutes after the break.

The pair couldn’t separated in 120 minutes, so penalties it was. And Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men held their nerve to secure a 4-1 victory on spot kicks and bring the trophy back to what is now it’s spiritual home in the South of Spain.

But the night didn’t end for Taylor when Gonzalo Montiel converted the decisive pen, which proved controversial after Taylor ordered a retake on the advice of VAR shortly after the Argentine had missed his initial attempt.
