The Porcupine Warriors have been without a permanent coach since Karim Zito resigned, leaving assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu in charge on an interim basis until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Konadu stressed that the club should prioritize finding the right fit rather than rushing the process.

“It is about who will fit the bill. Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, you need coaches with character to handle the pressure and their fanbase,” the former Kotoko coach said, as reported by 3Sports.

“It is all about being patient and making sure you go for the right one,” he explained.

In administrative developments, Asante Kotoko unveiled a new three-member board of directors on Friday, February 27.

Mr James Osei Brown was appointed Chairman, Mr Kwasi Osei Ofori as Vice Chairman, and Mr Kofi Amoa-Abban, founder and CEO of Rigworld Group, joined the board.

On the pitch, Kotoko will host Vision FC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchday 24 clash.

Maxwell Konadu signs two-year deal to become Bibiani GoldStars head coach https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-signs-two-year-deal-to-become-bibiani-goldstars-head-coach/ Tue, 07 Oct 2025 10:01:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586007 Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has been appointed as the new head coach of Bibiani GoldStars on a two-year contract.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions have been without a substantive head coach since parting ways with Frimpong Manso.

Manso’s dismissal followed GoldStars’ 2-0 home defeat to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In his absence, assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah took charge of the return leg in Algeria, where the team suffered a heavy 5-0 loss, resulting in a 7-0 aggregate defeat and elimination from the competition.

Konadu’s two-year deal will see him at the helm until 2027, as he looks to guide GoldStars in defending their league crown.

He is expected to be on the touchline for their outstanding Premier League fixture against Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, October 8, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Renowned for his vast coaching experience, Konadu has previously managed Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities, the national U-23 side (Black Meteors), and South African club Black Leopards, among others.

Manso, who led the team to their first league title in history last May, was surprisingly sacked after Bibiani Gold Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to JS Kabylie on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.

Manso’s assistant, Nana Yaw Amankwah, will lead the team for the return leg in Algeria on Sunday.

Speaking to Luv FM, Kwagyire explained that the club intends to make a careful decision that aligns with its long-term vision. He confirmed that Maxwell Konadu is among the candidates being considered for the vacant coaching role.

“Management is working to ensure that, at the end of the day, they make a firm decision on who will take over from Coach Frimpong Manso. In the meantime, the assistant coach, Nana Yaw Amankwah, will oversee preparations for the second leg against JS Kabylie,” he said.

Kwagyire added that the club is reviewing a full list of potential coaches to ensure the final choice fits the team’s future plans. “Coach Maxwell’s name has been mentioned, but there are also several other candidates under consideration. Management will finalise the appointment carefully,” he noted.

The Miners confirmed on Monday, September 22, that they had mutually parted ways with Manso after a 2-0 home defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The result has left GoldStars with a daunting task in their debut continental campaign and triggered a swift shake-up in the technical team.

Konadu, 52, has emerged as the leading candidate for the role. The experienced tactician, who guided Asante Kotoko to a Ghana Premier League title during his stint with the club, also boasts spells with Legon Cities, Nsoatreman FC, and the Black Stars B, where he steered Ghana to WAFU Cup of Nations glory in 2017.

GoldStars are expected to confirm his appointment in the coming days. Should the deal be finalized, Konadu is likely to be in the dugout for the decisive return leg in Algeria this weekend as well as the club’s upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Manso departs with his name firmly etched in GoldStars’ history, having delivered their first-ever Ghana Premier League title and a GHALCA Top 4 triumph during his tenure.

The 52-year-old tactician brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed several Ghana Premier League sides, including Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, and most recently, Nsoatreman FC.

Maxwell Konadu backs GFA-Adesa deal, says it will boost local football https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-backs-gfa-adesa-deal-says-it-will-boost-local-football/ Fri, 01 Aug 2025 07:33:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2562243

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has endorsed the new partnership between Adesa Productions Limited (APL) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), calling it a much-needed intervention for Ghanaian football.

The deal, launched on Thursday, brought together key figures including Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.

Konadu described the agreement as “a very, very good initiative” capable of reviving the domestic game.

“This has been long overdue. These are the kinds of interventions that can really support our game. Once it starts, it will help a lot of youth and go a long way in sustaining clubs,” he said.

He noted the financial burden of running football clubs in Ghana and expressed hope that the new arrangement would ease those pressures.

“It’s not easy to own and manage a Premier League team. These are the initiatives that will support club owners. And in the end, it benefits the communities because the youth in these areas will directly gain from it.”

Konadu also addressed the issue of poor salaries in the local league, expressing optimism for change.

“I believe this will help improve the average salary of the Ghanaian footballer. This is what we’ve all been advocating for. I’m happy for this initiative.”

Under the partnership, each Ghana Premier League club is expected to receive GH₵1 million ahead of the new season. Three matches will be aired live each weekend, and highlight packages of all matches will be produced to enhance visibility.

Player exodus affecting Ghana Premier League – Maxwell Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/player-exodus-affecting-ghana-premier-league-maxwell-konadu/ Tue, 29 Apr 2025 17:49:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529727 Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has cited the continuous departure of top players as a major reason behind the Ghana Premier League’s dwindling fortunes.

Once considered a giant in African football, the Ghanaian top-flight has seen its brightest talents leave season after season — an issue Konadu attributes to inadequate investment in the local game.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, the former Black Stars assistant coach drew a sharp contrast between Ghana and South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL), highlighting that better salaries and superior infrastructure in South Africa are crucial to retaining players.

“The difference here is that with Ghanaian players, once you score a few goals, you are gone the next season. It’s not like that in South Africa because they pay them good money,” Konadu, who recently coached South African side Black Leopards, said.

“The players there are relaxed and not in a hurry to travel to Europe because they enjoy what they are doing at home.”

Konadu stressed that while players may personally benefit from moves overseas, their departures weaken the domestic competition and stifle the league’s growth.

He also emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in strengthening a football league, pointing to South Africa’s modern facilities as a major factor behind the PSL’s competitiveness.

“The South African league is very competitive. Clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are always in the CAF Champions League,” he pointed out.

“Good infrastructure leads to beautiful football, and it helps their league a lot.”

Calling for urgent reforms, Konadu urged greater private sector involvement to help revive Ghanaian football.

“Until companies are encouraged to invest in our league, we will continue to struggle against countries such as South Africa,” he warned.

Black Stars have qualities to perform at 2026 World Cup – Maxwell Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/black-stars-have-qualities-to-perform-at-2026-world-cup-maxwell-konadu/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 11:40:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2528258 Former Black Stars assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu, believes the current crop of players has the qualities to perform at the 2026 World Cup.

The four-time African champions have enhanced their chances of qualification with back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in Matchdays 5 and 6 of the qualifiers during the March international break.

Ghana secured an emphatic 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and a 3-0 victory over Madagascar in Morocco.

Speaking to Graphic Sports, Konadu said the team has the potential to match world-class teams ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup, citing the quality of players and the renewed national support behind the team.

He added that while not all of the Black Stars players are plying their trade at elite European clubs, they are competing in top leagues—an indication of their readiness to face global football powerhouses.

“We have top players. Even though not all of them are in top clubs, many are playing in the best leagues in Europe,” the former Asante Kotoko gaffer said. “That alone should tell you that we have quality. It’s just a matter of getting them together and instilling the right attitude,” he added.

Konadu also pointed out that the back-to-back wins were a crucial morale booster following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to him, the win restored confidence in the squad and reignited national hopes of a World Cup berth.

“That first win was everything. It brought back belief in the team. Now, we are confident that Ghana can qualify for the World Cup,” he stated.

He further noted the massive support from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the government, and fans as key factors in the team’s recent turnaround.

Konadu emphasized that national unity and motivation have a direct impact on performance, regardless of which players are selected.

“When the players know the country is behind them, they will give everything. But if the spirit of the nation is missing, it doesn’t matter who you invite—they will struggle,” he said.

“It’s about getting the support of every Ghanaian, the FA, and the ministry. Without that, forget it.”

He also called for unity among the national team’s management, warning that internal divisions can derail even the most talented squads.

The Black Stars, who now sit at the top of Group I with 15 points, are set to face Chad and Mali in their next round of qualifiers in September.

Second-Tier football in SA more competitive than Ghana Premier League – Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/second-tier-football-in-sa-more-competitive-than-ghana-premier-league-konadu/ Thu, 24 Apr 2025 17:03:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2528225 Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has claimed that South Africa’s second-tier football league offers a higher level of competition than the Ghana Premier League.

Konadu made this assertion during an interview with Graphic Sports after recently parting ways with South African side Black Leopards.

Having managed several top clubs in Ghana, including Legon Cities and All Stars, the experienced coach praised the depth and quality of South African football, particularly at the lower levels.

He noted that even teams in the country’s second division enjoy strong financial backing, which allows them to attract top talent and maintain a high level of competitiveness.

“The second-tier league in South Africa is more competitive than the Ghana league,” Konadu said.

“They pay their players well, and that has attracted top talent. Even during international breaks, matches in those leagues are suspended because many players get national team call-ups,” he added.

Konadu, who also previously served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars, highlighted the contrast with Ghana’s domestic league, emphasizing the need for greater investment and structural improvement.

Currently without a club after his contract with Black Leopards ended, the experienced Ghanaian coach is in discussions about a potential return to the sidelines.

Konadu revealed in an interview with Graphic Sports that his agent is in talks with several South African clubs regarding a possible move.

“My agent has been calling to see how I’m doing and all that, and once I’m home, I’ll wait for the next step to take,” Konadu said.

“Definitely, I’ve spoken to several clubs. I only have to wait for the season to end, but for now, we don’t have to go into which clubs are talking to me.”

The former Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC head coach hinted that a return to South Africa is likely, given the strong offers he’s received and his agent’s presence in the country.

“Since my agent is based in South Africa, it’s clear the offers are coming from clubs there. So, I may move back next season,” he confirmed.

Konadu also revealed that even the second-tier leagues in South Africa offer better remuneration and attract top talent, making them more competitive than the top-flight leagues in Ghana.

“The second-tier league in South Africa is more competitive than the Ghana league,” he said.

“They pay their players well, and that has attracted top talent. Even during international breaks, matches in those leagues are suspended because many players get national team call-ups,” Konadu added.

Black Stars must stay focused despite revival – Maxwell Konadu https://www.adomonline.com/black-stars-must-stay-focused-despite-revival-maxwell-konadu/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 11:04:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2524248

Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu believes the senior national team has rediscovered its rhythm following a series of strong performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, he has cautioned the team to maintain focus as the qualifiers progress.

After a disappointing 2024 campaign, which saw the team go six matches without a win, the Black Stars bounced back with impressive victories over Chad and Madagascar on Matchdays 5 and 6 of the qualifying campaign.

Ghana thrashed Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium before cruising to a 3-0 win over Madagascar in Morocco. These back-to-back victories have boosted Ghana’s chances of securing a spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“I feel we are back on track. Some may argue that the countries we defeated are not top-tier teams, but football has evolved to the point where you cannot underestimate anyone. If they can play this same way against teams like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, and others, we will be very competitive,” Konadu told Akoma FM.

He emphasized the importance of focus and consistency as the qualifiers progress.

“Almost doesn’t count in my opinion. You just have to make sure you’re there, so all we have to do is focus on the immediate match, get that out of the way, and then we can see our way forward. We shouldn’t believe that just because we’re home and dry, we should be complacent.”

Konadu also urged the players to remain committed and continue their push for World Cup qualification.

“I think the boys are professionally good and top players, so I don’t think they will lose focus. They will continue to do their best to get Ghana to the World Cup,” he added.

Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points and will return to action in September with qualifiers against Chad and Mali on Matchdays 7 and 8. They will wrap up their group campaign with clashes against Comoros and the Central African Republic.

Maxwell Konadu calls for patience with Black Stars coach Otto Addo https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-calls-for-patience-with-black-stars-coach-otto-addo/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 01:09:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2523724 Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is urging Ghanaian football fans to exercise patience with head coach Otto Addo following the team’s struggles.

Addo, 49, faced intense criticism after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in two decades that the nation missed the prestigious tournament.

However, recent back-to-back victories against Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers have eased some of the pressure.

Speaking to Akoma FM, Konadu emphasized the need for calm and support from fans.

“Ghanaians adore football; when things go well, they lavish praise on you; when things go wrong, the country becomes split, and that is how the game has sadly become,” he said.

“We simply need to be patient occasionally with Otto Addo, but how many individuals can be patient? Today’s generation will not be patient with you.”

Konadu acknowledged that patience is a challenge not only in Ghana but also globally, where professionalism often dictates a different approach. However, he believes that once the Black Stars continue to win, the pressure on the coach will subside.

“It’s not only in Ghana, but elsewhere, where professionalism comes in and things are regarded a little differently than here, but once the team has started winning, I don’t think there will be any problems again for the coach,” he added.

The Black Stars are set to return to action in June for a four-nation tournament before resuming their World Cup qualifying campaign in September with matches against Chad and Mali. They will wrap up the qualifiers with fixtures against Comoros and the Central African Republic.

South African club Black Leopards have parted ways with Ghanaian coach Maxwell Konadu following a string of disappointing results.

The decision comes after a 2-1 defeat to Lerumo United on Saturday, which left the club in 10th place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 23 points from 17 matches—11 points behind league leaders Durban City FC.

Konadu, who was appointed in July 2024 on a three-year contract after leaving Nsoatreman FC, was tasked with guiding Black Leopards back to the Betway Premiership. However, his tenure failed to produce the expected turnaround.

The former Ghana international previously served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars under managers such as Otto Addo, Milovan Rajevac, Chris Hughton, Kwesi Appiah, and Avram Grant.

Following his departure, reports indicate that the club is considering Venda Football Academy coach Stan Nkoane as a potential replacement.

Maxwell Konadu confident of steering Black Leopards back to PSL https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-confident-of-steering-black-leopards-back-to-psl/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 10:34:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2422023 Black Leopards head coach, Maxwell Konadu, is relying on his extensive experience to guide the team back to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The 51-year-old signed a one-year contract with the lower-tier team two weeks ago.

The former Asante Kotoko coach joined the Leopards from Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC, where he led them to their first FA Cup victory.

Konadu’s appointment brings renewed hope to the Leopards, who have been striving to return to top-flight football since their relegation in the 2019/20 season.

With a robust coaching resume that includes significant continental and international experience, Konadu’s credentials are impressive. As the Black Stars’ deputy coach during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he played a crucial role in Ghana’s qualification.

“I know about Black Leopards from when they were still in the Premiership, and now that they are in division one, they need to fight back. I am well-experienced on the continent… I’ve been in the World Cups, AFCON, CHANs…I’ve been everywhere. I want to see if all this experience will help me push Black Leopards to the highest level,” Konadu said as quoted by SowetanLive.

Konadu emphasized his credibility as a seasoned mentor. “In 2014, Kwesi Appiah was the head coach and I was his assistant. We successfully led the Black Stars to the World Cup in Brazil,” he recalled.

“After that, Appiah left and I was asked to coach the national team on an interim basis and I qualified the team for AFCON 2015. That’s when Avram Grant came in and we went to the final of the Afcon and got beaten by Ivory Coast on penalties. I [also] won the Ghana Premiership with Asante Kotoko [in the 2011/12 season].”

Maxwell Konadu appointed Black Meteors head coach https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-appointed-black-meteors-head-coach/ Tue, 23 Apr 2024 16:09:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2384794 The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced Maxwell Konadu as the new head coach of Ghana’s U-23 team, the Black Meteors.

Konadu, currently the head coach of Premier League side Nsoatreman FC, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

His appointment is a crucial part of the GFA’s strategy to develop players through a structured pathway, preparing them for high-level performance.

This move aligns with the GFA’s football philosophy of identifying and nurturing talented players for both age-category teams and the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Konadu has extensive coaching experience, particularly within Ghana’s developmental age groups, including U17 and U20. He previously served as Assistant Coach of the Black Stars under James Kwasi Appiah (2012) and Milovan Rajevac (2021).

The close alignment between the Black Meteors and the Black Stars makes Konadu’s new role particularly significant, as the Black Meteors serve as a bridge between youth development and senior-level competition.

With Konadu at the helm, the GFA aims to further develop promising players who come through the national teams’ developmental pathway.

Assisting Konadu is Abdul Gazale, former Asante Kotoko Coach and CAF License A holder, while Ben Owu, a 1991 FIFA U17 World Cup winner, will serve as the goalkeeper trainer. Amankwah Mireku, a Hearts of Oak legend, takes on the role of Team Manager.

The backroom staff also includes Eric Totime (Physiotherapist), Henry Bart-Plange (Masseur), Collins Osei Bonsu, Attah Debango (Equipment Officers), and Eli Vorgbe (Video Analyst).

Konadu and his team are tasked with building a competitive squad for international assignments and providing options for selection to the Black Stars.

The Nsoatre-based side suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Phobian Club in the matchday 19 games at the Nana Kronmansah Park.

Hearts of Oak scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half and according to Konadu, his players failed to heed instructions to take advantage of Hearts of Oak’s lack of wing play.

“When Hearts of Oak came in the second half, they started playing the 4-4-2 diamond, which means they didn’t have wingers and that is what we instructed our boys to play through the wings so that we can hit them at their weakest point but the first 10 minutes they were not (responding to the tactics) I don’t know what happened because the instructions were clear,” he said.

Salifu Ibrahim and Cisse Kasim scored for Hearts of Oak before Walid Fuseini scored a consolation for the home side.

Nsoatreman FC, who now sit 4th on the Premier League log with 30 points will hope to return to winning ways when they host Dreams FC in the matchday 20 games on Sunday.

“I don’t regret sacking Maxwell Konadu,” he said.

“At the time we were sacking him [Maxwell Konadu], his win percentage was not good but Mariano Barreto’s win record is good and it’s around 70 and 80 per cent and at the end of the season, we will access him and if he has not met our target, we will make a decision,” he added.

Following the sacking of Kondau, the Porcupine Warriors appointed Portuguese manager, Mariano Barreto as a permanent manager on a one and half year deal.

Asante Kotoko dragged to Ghana FA over unpaid debt https://www.adomonline.com/asante-kotoko-dragged-to-ghana-fa-over-unpaid-debt/ Fri, 05 Mar 2021 15:30:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1928707 Former Asante Kotoko head coach, Maxwell Konadu, has reported the club to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Players and Coaches Status Committee for breach of contract.

The 45-year-old submitted his report to the football governing body on Thursday upon receipt of a letter from the club offering to pay GH¢ 80,000 for terminating his contract in December last year.

The letter, dated February 15, but delivered on February 24, 2021, also ordered coach Konadu to return the official car that was given to him within a week.

Asante Kotoko initially said they were going to pay him off via cheque, but appear to have rescinded their decision and will pay the money into his bank account.

The breakdown of the money per the letter said, they are paying for three months, deemed as settlement for the dismissal in lieu of notice, remaining sign-on fee of GHS 30,000 and winning bonuses of matches against Hearts of Oak (2019), and Legon Cities (2020).

For the winning bonus which was GHS 1,000 per match, the club says they will instead pay GHS 500 per match. JoySports understands there is no binding contract for the coach to receive GHS 1,000 match-winning bonus, it is the club’s discretion.

It appears coach Konadu and his team are unhappy and have resorted to the GFA to have the disagreements settled.

On February 9, 2021, he wrote to the record Ghana league champions to demand $60,000 compensation for the unilateral termination of his contract, which the club says was his “inability to exhibit a high level of performance which would prepare the team to the height it deserves to be.”

This claim, sources say, is alien to the contract signed between the two parties on December 9, 2019.

He also demanded the remainder of his sign-on fee of GHS 30,000 and GHS 2,000 winning bonuses, and ultimately, $36,000 which is the remainder of his contract with the club.

But, Kotoko, through its Chief Executive Officer, Nana Yaw Amponsah, said per Ghana Labour Law, he is due three months salary, thus, he will be given $9,000 out of the $36,000 demanded.

Now, coach Konadu has resorted to having his demands paid in full by going through the Ghana FA player and coaches’ adjudicatory body.

It is unclear when the case will be heard.

Maxwell Konadu writes to Kotoko for his $41,000 https://www.adomonline.com/maxwell-konadu-writes-to-kotoko-for-his-41000/ Tue, 16 Feb 2021 16:43:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1920700 Former coach of Asante Kotoko, Maxwell Konadu, has written to the club to demand monies the club owes him.

The former league winner is demanding a year’s salary amounting to $36,000 plus an outstanding sign-on fee of GHS 30,000.

Coach Konadu, in his letter to the club last week Wednesday, also asked for winning bonuses from matches against Hearts Oak and Legon Cities which, according to Joy Sports sources, is about GHS 2,000.00.

This takes his financial demands to a little over $41,000. There is also a request for damages, the amounts of which are unclear.

The coach gave Asante Kotoko two weeks to respond to his letter.

The board initially scheduled a meeting for Saturday but cancelled due to the club’s focus on their CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie against ES Sétif.

It is understood that the board requested for the letter to study it before convening the meeting with management later this week.

Joy Sports also understands that he will write to the Ghana Football Association Player’s Status Committee later this week and cite a breach of contract. The letter could be submitted by Thursday.

Kotoko Chief Executive Officer, Nana Yaw Amponsah, in an interview last year, said that the club will pay him three months salary for termination of his contract.

Joy Sports sources say, he was relying on Article 11.2 of the terms of the agreement, but that was wrongly interpreted.

The clause, we gather, does not talk about terms of settling the coach when his contract is terminated, but rather refers to the coach losing three matches in succession.

Coach Konadu, however, lost just a game against Great Olympics before he was sacked by management on December 17, 2020.

The management of Kotoko appears surprised at his position as a meeting was held with him on December 24, 2020, to return to post.

They wanted him for the game against Medeama SC, but coach Konadu said he needed to speak to his advisors. Both parties did not communicate again until the letter was sent last week.

Kotoko say they were expecting a response, but the camp of coach Konadu also believes a letter to re-engage his services was not submitted.

I will report Kotoko if … – Ex-coach https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-report-kotoko-if-ex-coach/ Wed, 03 Feb 2021 15:31:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1914440 Maxwell Konadu has pleaded with his former employers to pay his compensation else he will report the club to the Ghana Football Association.

Coach Konadu, 48, was shown the exit by the management of the Porcupine Warriors after the team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics in the ongoing Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

While he awaits his compensation from the club, he says he does not want to blow issues out of proportion.

“I have been paid by Kotoko up to December but no one has contacted me on anything beyond that. I am home now not working because I haven’t fully settled my issues with Kotoko and they need to do the right thing,” he told Nhyira FM.

“I have written letters on my entitlements with Kotoko but I’ll want to amicably settle all my issues with Kotoko before using the other channels,” he added.

He added that there have not been massive changes at the club since he left the team two months ago.

Since his exit, the Porcupine Warriors have played eight games in all competitions; lost two, won three and recorded three draws and are yet to lose an away game in the Premier League.

“Ever since I left, the only Kotoko game I watched was against Aduana Stars and there has not been any change.

“The only difference is that Fabio Gama has been cleared and now plays actively for the team,” he said.

The coach insists he is ready to sit down with the club to agree on the best way out for each party.

The former Black Stars assistant coach was shown the exit following their 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium in the matchday four games.

Speaking to Nhyira FM, coach Konadu said that he was not given much time to bond with the team just a month after starting the league.

“It was a new team and players will want to exhibit their individual brilliance rather than playing as a team and that made the gelling of the team difficult. It is the reason we started the season very poorly, but I knew with time, the team will settle,” he noted.

He also stressed that there has not been any major change or difference in the team ever since he left the club after watching their clash against Aduana Stars.

Mr Afriyie, however, was of the opinion that the club made a mistake in firing him and described him as one of the best managers of his era.

“I was disappointed when they sacked Maxwell Konadu, I will speak as I feel,” the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President told Joy Sports’ Muftawu Nabila in an interview.

Coach Konadu, a former Kotoko forward, was sacked after their shock 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics in the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In an interview, Mr Amponsah said that he did not inform the board of directors before terminating the contract of the former Black Stars assistant coach.

“I made a mistake for sacking Maxwell Konadu because I did not officially write to inform the board,” Mr Amponsah told Kumasi based Oyerepa FM.

“I admit I am wrong and I accept that. Maxwell Konadu’s records at Kotoko was not bad but it was time for him to go and other big clubs in the world have done that but I again admit I was wrong for not informing the board.

Since Konadu’s departure, Kotoko have been involved in two games which they recorded a win and a defeat. The defeat came in their Caf Champions League clash with Al Hilal in Accra.

The disappointing 1-0 result means Kotoko are on the brink of elimination from the competition at the second round stage if they don’t up their game.
