Dreams FC represented Ghana in the 2023/24 CAF Confederations Cup competition and made it to the semifinal on their debut appearance.

The Dawu-based club were eliminated by the 2019 champions and five-time champions of Africa, Zamalek on a 3-0 aggregate.

Sharing his thoughts on their African journey, Coach Zito who was guest on Luv Fm’s Kickoff show, maintained that until the government injects massive financial support to clubs, Ghanaian teams will continue to struggle in continental competitions.

“It was not easy seriously playing in Africa, when you look at the other teams we played, their governments are helping them. And again, seriously I’m pleading with the government to come to the aid of Ghana football or else we will not go anywhere.

“If the government doesn’t come in, for me we should stop football for at least ten years and bring all the stakeholders on board to fashion out what to do to make the teams sustainable financially. Because of what I saw at other countries and venues, in Tunisia for instance in the dressing room they have a swimming pool just for ice bath, just imagine this. In Angola the coaches’ office alone is more than a dressing room of a club in Ghana. We really have a long way to go if we want to make an impression on the continent,” Zito stressed.

Zito, who has been with Dreams FC for over a decade, suggested that if governments are not willing to finance the teams, they can find other ways like giving multinational companies tax rebates and in return expect these companies to sponsor clubs on continental assignments.

“Government can talk to the Coca Cola Company in Ghana [for instance] and tell them I want you to sponsor the league or our clubs, then we [government] offer you tax subsidies or exemptions. When this happens players, salary will increase, and the boys will be okay to stay to make the local game attractive.

“How can a premier division player be earning Gh500.00? If the government doesn’t come in, I’m telling you we are doomed when it comes to football on the continent,” observed the coach.

The Ghana Premier League side is set to host the Egyptian powerhouse in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash.

In the first leg, Karim Zito’s side managed to hold Zamalek to a goalless draw at the Cairo International Stadium over the weekend.

Dreams will host the one-time Confederation Cup champions at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In a move to encourage fan attendance, the club’s management has declared that fans can enter the stadium without purchasing any tickets for the popular stand and centre line.

However, VIP and VVIP stand tickets will be available for GH¢20 and GH¢50, respectively.

“The management of Dreams FC has accepted a recommendation to make access to the majority portions of the stadium for its return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash against Zamalek SC free of charge,” a statement from the club read.

Dreams FC is scheduled to leave for Kumasi for the game this weekend on Wednesday, while Zamalek is expected to arrive in the country on Thursday.

The much-anticipated match is set to kick off at 16:00GMT.

This monumental achievement was sealed as Dreams secured a 1-1 draw against Stade Malien of Mali in Kumasi, completing a 3-2 aggregate victory following their 2-1 first-leg triumph.

The last time a Ghanaian club advanced this far in CAF’s second-tier competition was in 2004 when Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko contested the final of the inaugural tournament.

Securing their spot in the last four not only brings prestige but also a substantial financial reward for Dreams FC. Their qualification guarantees a significant payout of US$750,000.

Additionally, they stand to earn an extra US$250,000 if they progress to the final, which would elevate their total earnings to US$1,000,000 even if they don’t clinch the title.

However, winning the competition would double their earnings to an impressive US$2,000,000.

These lucrative prizes are in line with the revised prize money structure introduced by CAF in 2023.

Next up for Karim Zito’s squad is a daunting clash against Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semi-finals.

The first leg is scheduled to take place in Cairo on April 21, followed by the return leg in Kumasi seven days later.

The Ghanaian team secured a spot by holding Stade Malien to a 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Baba Yara Stadium, following a 2-1 victory in the first leg in Bamako, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

In his post-match remarks, coach Karim Zito conveyed his steadfast determination to pursue the championship title.

“We will not let the qualification put us down, we are going to prepare,” Zito affirmed in the wake of the win.

Acknowledging the heightened expectations, Zito stated, “I think people will take us seriously now, but we are going for the ultimate,”. 

Dreams FC is now set to clash with Zamalek SC from Egypt in the semifinals.

The first leg is slated for April 21 at the Cairo International Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for April 28 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Their journey to the semifinals began with a tense first-leg victory of 2-1 in Bamako at Stade Malien. Returning home to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Dreams FC was determined to solidify their advancement to the next round.

Despite dominating much of the second leg against Stade Malien, Dreams FC faced a nail-biting moment when Diaby Yoro scored in the 60th minute, adding suspense to the match.

However, Sylvester Simba’s goal in the 70th minute levelled the score, ending the game at 1-1 and securing Dreams FC’s progression with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

This achievement marks a historic milestone for Dreams FC, making them the first Ghanaian team to reach the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals since the notable performances of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2005, during the tournament’s inaugural edition.

Based in Dawu, Dreams FC advanced to the last eight after topping Group B, surpassing Nigeria’s Rivers United and Tunisian side Club Africain.

Now, with the semifinals on the horizon, coach Karim Zito and his team are setting their sights on the ultimate prize at the culmination of the campaign.

The Still Believe lads, the sole Ghanaian representatives in the competition, showcased their prowess with a 2-1 triumph against Stade Malien in the first leg of the quarterfinals held in Bamako last weekend.

The upcoming fixture will see Dreams FC hosting the Malian side at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, kick-off set for 17:00 GMT.

Akonnor, who is a former head coach for the side praised their current form under Karim Zito’s leadership, highlighting their fearless and confident approach to the game.

“Dreams FC’s performance has been commendable, bringing pride to Ghana. Their fearless and confident style of play is truly remarkable. Considering their current momentum, I believe they have what it takes to clinch the championship” Akonnor expressed in an interview with Akoma FM.

He emphasized the importance of rallying support behind the team, urging Ghanaians to be proud of the players’ unity and determination.

“We should all stand behind them as they aim for the finals and potentially the title,” Akonnor emphasized.

The Dawu-based team beat Stade Malien at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup, brightening their chances of qualifying for the semifinals of the competition.

The FA Cup defending champions after that crucial win became the first Ghanaian club in 24 years to win an away match in the knockout stages of Africa inter-club competition.

Some Ghanaian football lovers have hailed Dreams FC for their exploits in Africa, lifting the flag of Ghana high with some interesting results.

But General Manager of Dreams FC, Ameenu Shardow, in an interview with Nhyira FM disclosed it has been financially challenging for the team, especially after some bankers denied them loans for the competition.

According to Shardow, some management members were even against the decision to go to Africa.

“Some of us in management were against the club’s decision to go to Africa because if you look at the record of Ghanaian clubs in recent times in Africa, we thought going to Africa would be counterproductive,” he said. 

“Some of our bankers denied us loans to embark in Africa because they thought it was too much of a risk to invest in such a venture. It hasn’t been easy financially,” he said.

Dreams FC will host the Malian side Stade Malien on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg.

The Ghana Premier League side recorded a 2-1 win heading into the return fixture.

A brace from veteran striker, John Antwi was enough for the Ghanaian side who now need to avoid defeat in the next fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, April 7.

The home side took the lead through Yoro Diaby and looked certain to take the win.

However, Antwi drew the Still Believe lads levelled in the 66th minute of the encounter before going ahead to score the winner from the penalty spot minutes later.

Dreams FC are the only Ghanaian club to have recorded away wins in the knockout stage of CAF competitions in 20 years; 3-2 over Academica do Lobito in December, and 2-1 over Stade Malien.

Dreams, who is the defending champions of the MTN FA Cup is hoping to reach the semifinal of the competition in their maiden appearance of the CAF Confederations Cup.

With the first leg scheduled for Sunday, March 31, in Bamako, Zito has outlined his team’s approach to the crucial encounter.

Expressing confidence, Zito outlined two primary objectives for his side. “We are going there with two objectives,” he affirmed.

“First, we are going in to win; if not, the best result is to come out with a draw. These are the strategies we are going to map out when we go there. That is my expectation.”

Reflecting on previous tactics, Zito drew parallels to their recent match against Medeama, where adaptability was key.

“I tried to use the same tactics against Medeama when I played them last Sunday. I went in [with the idea to win] and later I decided to draw the game then we had our draw which is our second option.”

However, Zito reiterated the team’s ultimate goal, emphasizing their ambition to secure a spot in the semifinals. “At the end of the day, our expectation is to qualify for the semifinals and nothing aside from that,” he emphasized.

The draw for the knockout stage was conducted on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt.

Having emerged at the top of their group ahead of strong contenders like Club Africain, Rivers United, and Academica do Lobito, the Ghanaian side will commence their journey with an away fixture before returning home for the second leg.

The initial clash is set for Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Stade Mars 26 in Bamako. Dreams FC will then host the return leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

This marks a significant milestone for Dreams FC, as they become the first Ghanaian club in two decades to advance to the knockout stage of CAF inter-club competitions.

Their opponents, Stade Malien, boast a rich history in the tournament, having clinched the title in 2009.

The Ghana Premier League side has etched its name in the history books by topping their group in their inaugural participation in the ongoing 2023/24 tournament.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for the club, as they finished atop Group C with an impressive 12 points, becoming the first team since 2004, alongside Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, to advance to the quarterfinal of the competition.

In the wake of their qualification, the former Asante Kotoko coach commended his team for their stellar performance and emphasized their ambition to seize the ultimate prize should they reach the semifinals.

“We encountered challenges initially, but making history by reaching the last 16 is a testament to our resilience,” he said in an interview with Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports show.

“We are grateful for the support from the club’s management. With our berth in the last 16 secured, our target is to lift the trophy if we progress to the semifinals. We possess a strong squad with talented players, and our experiences from the group stage have equipped us well for the challenges ahead” he added.

“We’re diligently preparing for that scenario, and we’re optimistic about our prospects,” he affirmed.

Dreams FC awaits the revelation of their next opponent with the draw set to take place on March 12 in Cairo.

Despite a narrow 2-1 loss to Rivers United in their final group game, the Still Believe lads secured their spot in the next round of the competition for the first time in their history.

Dreams FC’s advancement was confirmed following a draw between Club Africain and AC Lobito in the other group match.

The Still Believe lads began the scoring as Abdul Aziz Issah found the net after the 40th-minute mark, capitalizing on a pass from forward John Antwi.

This put them ahead at halftime. However, Rivers United responded after the break when Echeta Ugonna Deputy scored, evening the score and tilting the momentum in their favour.

Dreams FC faced a setback in the 81st minute when Seth Agyemang received his second yellow card of the second half, resulting in his expulsion from the match.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Rivers United scored a late goal, securing all three points.

By making it to the quarterfinals, Dreams FC achieved a historic feat as the first Ghanaian team to reach the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup since Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in 2004.

Godfred Atuahene’s crucial goal in the 50th minute, scored at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, February 25, 2024, proved pivotal for the Ghana Premier League representatives.

Abdul Karim Zito’s squad has netted 10 goals in the competition while conceding only 5, boasting an impeccable record of four wins and a solitary loss in the group stage.

Dreams FC will hope to wrap up their group phase games with a win when they travel to play Nigerian side, Rivers United on Sunday, March 3.

The Ghana Premier League side stunned Lobito 4-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday afternoon with youngster Abdul Aziz Issah scoring a wonderful goal.

Agyenim Boateng Mensah opened the scoring for the home side in the 35th minute of the game shooting Dreams into the lead.

The 1-0 score was all the game could see in the first 45 minutes as both teams headed into the break.

However, the Still Believe lads had their lead doubled shortly after the return from recess as Adi Boyo scored an own goal.

Then a moment of brilliance from Aziz Issah made it 3-0 for the Still Believe lads in the 74th minute, beating the goalkeeper from the centreline.

Tamko Nuhu, who was introduced in the latter part of the game wrapped up the victory with a 92nd-minute strike to end the game 4-0.

Dreams now move to nine points from four games with just one defeat recorded in the first games in Group C.

Karim Zito’s boys are also one win away from advancing to the knockout stage of the continental competition for the first time in their history.

The Still Believe side will host the Angolan club at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at 4: pm today in their fourth group game.

Dreams claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win in the first leg in Luanda, and are aiming for back-to-back wins to enhance their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

The FA Cup champions are third in Group C with 6 points, the same points as first-placed Club Africain and must win to ensure their chances of progression.

“When we started this competition all that I’ve been telling you people was to qualify for the group stage,” Zito said at the pre-match presser.

“Now, we are in the group stage and I said let’s calm down to see [what we can do]. I’ve never been there as a coach but I’ve been there as a player. It is a game that we term it must win. If we want to make any meaningful impact in this competition, today is the day” he added.

In their third Group C game, the FA Cup champions were hosted at the Stade 11 de Novembro on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The MTN FA Cup Champions now find themselves with six points, putting them on par with Tunisian side Club Africain and Rivers United.

Dreams FC took an early lead in the 10th minute, courtesy of a brilliant effort by Abdul Aziz Issah.

However, Academica Do Lobito’s defender, Joao Valonga Basilio Barros, quickly equalized.

Karim Zito’s side regained control as veteran striker John Antwi showcased his scoring prowess, again putting his team ahead.

Aholou Gael Avocevou further secured the victory for Dreams FC with the third goal.

While the home side managed to grab a late consolation, Dreams FC emerged triumphant.

On the other hand, Academica Do Lobito finds themselves without a single point after three matches.

Dreams FC will aim to complete the double and strengthen their position in the quest for a spot in the quarter-finals when they host the Angolan side on Wednesday, December 20.

The Still Believe lads hosted the Nigerian side in their second group game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday afternoon.

The FA Cup champions opened their Confederations Cup campaign with a 2-0 loss against Tunisian side Club Africain and needed to redeem themselves in the second group game.

However, former Al-Ahly and Pyramids FC striker John Antwi put Dreams FC ahead in the 35th minute before Abdul Aziz Issah added the second in the 75th minute, assisted by Agyenim Boateng-Mensah.

The Nigerians got the equalizer in the dying embers of the game through Alex Oyowah after the away side saw the lion’s share of possession in the second half.

But Karim Zito’s side managed to hold onto the lead, after a tense end to the second half in Kumasi.

With the win, Dreams FC has three points and ranks third in Group C; Dreams is tied on points with Rivers but the Nigerian team holds a better goal difference over the Ghanaian side.

Dreams’ next game is against Academia Petroleos do Lobito from Angola on December 10 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

The MTN FA Cup champions were making their debut in the CAF inter-club competition for the first time in their history.

The ‘Still Believe’ lads fell behind the host as early as the 5th minute, courtesy of a strike from Algeria’s Meziani Tayeb.

The Tunisian side later doubled the lead through Nigerian striker, Edowu Kingsley in the 19th minute.

Dreams FC registered four shots on target, however, they failed to break down the defence of the Tunisian side for the entire duration of the game which eventually ended in a loss for Ghana’s reps.

Next up for Dreams FC is a match against Rivers United from Nigeria on December 3, 2023, at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Dreams FC are in Group C alongside Club Africain of Tunisia, Rivers United of Nigeria, and Academica Petroleos do Lobito of Angola.

The Ghana FA Champions have been paired with Rivers United from Nigeria, Club Africa in from Tunisia and Angolan club APC Lobito in Group C.

The Still Believe lads eliminated Kallon FC from Sierra Leone in the final phase of the preliminary round before securing a ticket to the group stage of the competition.

Karim Zito and his charges will hope to make an impact in the tournament.

The group phase of the Confederation Cup will begin on Sunday, November 26, 2023, through to March 3, 2024.

The ‘Still Believe’ lads for the first time in their history will play in the group phase of the tournament after edging Sierra Leone’s FC Kallon 3-2 on aggregate in the second preliminary games.

Speaking after welcoming the Dreams FC contingent at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, Kurt, who is the owner of Dreams FC said there is still a lot of work to be done.

“I know that there is a lot more work to be done at the group stage until we get to the title itself but believe me, today is my happiest moment,” he said.

“I am glad that all the investments we’ve been making since we took office, am glad that the message of hope that we delivered to the football family in 2019 is gradually and steadily beginning to show” Mr. Okraku added.

Dreams FC are the first Ghanaian club to reach the CAF Confederation Cup group stage since 2019 since Asante Kotoko under CK Akonnor.

The Ghana FA Cup champions over the weekend qualified for the group stage of the tournament following a 1-1 draw against FC Kallon in the return leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia.

Dreams FC in the first leg of the second round of the preliminary games recorded a 2-1 win at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Reacting to the team’s qualification to the group stage in their first attempt, Dormon speaking on Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite show revealed that, they had a clear plan on how they would approach every game.

He also said they had the right mentality and the willpower which has earned them a place in the group stage.

Dreams FC have earned $400,000 for qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.

In the return leg of the second round of the preliminary games, Dreams will be hosted at the Samuel Kay Doe (SKD) Stadium.

The game was scheduled to be played at the Southern Arena in Sierra Leone, but the venue has now been declared as not fit to host a game of this magnitude by the Confederations of African Football (CAF).

“Kallon Football Club want to inform its supporters, fans, followers and well-wishers that their match against Dreams FC (Ghana), in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round, is going to be played at the Samuel Kay Doe (SKD) Stadium, in Liberia,” an FC Kallon statement said.

“Therefore, this notice is done to cancel the initial venue (Southern Arena, Bo) on the flyer.We are sorry for the inconveniences this might have caused our fans, and all Sierra Leoneans.”

Dreams FC are heading into the reverse fixture with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Accra and will hope to seal qualification to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The return leg has been scheduled for Saturday, September 30 with kick-off at 16:00GMT.

The Still Believe lads hosted the Sierra Leonean side at the  Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Dreams began the game on the front foot when Godfred Atuahene gave the hosts an early lead in the 15th minute of the game.

Unfortunately, Dreams FC could not take advantage of the momentum and allowed Kallon FC to grow into the game.

The visitors before the break equalised to ensure the first half ended 1-1.

After recess, the Ghana FA Cup champions won the game courtesy of a strike from experienced forward John Antwi in the 55^th minute.

The Ghanaian side now takes a narrow lead into the second leg.

The 2nd leg will see Karim Zito’s men play away to FC Kallon in Sierra Leone on Friday, September 29 at the Southern Arena Stadium, a game the Ghanaian side must win to ensure they play in the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup in their history.

Kick-off for the game is scheduled at 16:00GMT.

The FA Cup champions secured the passage to this stage of the competition after they played a 1-1 draw in the first leg and they later exhibited a strong fighting spirit by coming from a goal down to beat Milo FC 2-1 in the second leg at the Accra Stadium. 

Now, Dreams FC stand on the precipice of advancing to the competition’s group stage, but their journey hinges on prevailing against FC Kallon, a side propelled into this round due to the withdrawal of AS Douanes amid political turmoil in Niger.

Speaking ahead of the game, Karim Zito, who is the head coach of the side highlighted that their objective is to reach the money zone of the tournament but added that it will not be an easy game against FC Kallon.

“This is a two-sided game because we are all a step closer to the group stage and each team would like to qualify, but for us, our objective is to make sure that we win and qualify.

“It won’t be easy and we anticipate a tough match but our focus and ambition still remain to win no matter what,” he added.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the side, Ameenu Shardown also speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show on Friday insisted that, they are bent on ensuring they put up a good fight to rescue Ghana’s lost slot in Africa.

“The last time a Ghanaian club reached the money zone of the Confederations Cup was Asante Kotoko in 2015 and we (Dreams FC) are determined to put up a good fight to rescue our lost slot in Africa. We will play good football and get a good result before we travel for the return leg,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kallon FC arrived in Ghana on Wednesday and held their mandatory training at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Dreams FC will be hosted at the Southern Arena Stadium in the return leg on Friday, September 29.

Having beaten Guinean side, Milo FC in the first round of the preliminary games, the Ghana Premier League side will take on FC Kallon in the first leg of the second preliminary round of games at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

A favourable result from the two legs will qualify the MTN FA Cup champions to the money zone for the first time in the history of the club.

Speaking ahead of the game, Dormon believes the team is ready to change the narrative around Ghanaian clubs failing to qualify for CAF Interclub competitions.

“Preparations have gone well, we have been very positive, yes we had some minor hitches earlier on with some players, but the medical team has worked so hard,” he said.

“We had our last training sessions today, Thursday [14/09/2023] at the Accra Sports Stadium and the team is looking very ready and we are very positive. Our big objective is to make sure we make the money zone and we were happy to breeze past Milo FC in the preliminary round.

We are looking forward to this team [FC Kallon], it is a young team just like Dreams FC, and the information we have gathered is that they are a very possessive team as well” he stated.

FC Kallon advanced to this stage with a walkover after their scheduled match against Senegal’s AS Douanes was cancelled.

The second leg is scheduled to be played at the Southern Arena Stadium on September 29.

He joined the club as a free agent ahead of the new football season.

However, Antwi scored the second goal that helped Dreams FC come back from a goal down to beat Guinea club, Milo FC 2-1 in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 27.

“First of all the goal was not for me alone but for the team and I think it has helped the team to go to the next stage,” he said after the game.

“So like from the beginning, I am coming to help the team with the little experience I have in Africa because I have been to the CAF Champions League final, I have been to the Confederation Cup final so I know how the terrain is.

“Mine is just to help the team to go forward at least to the group stage. This is what we are working on and I know God willing we will get there,” he added.

Dreams FC qualified via a 3-2 aggregate after both legs – the first leg ended 1-1 in Guinea with the reverse producing a 2-1 win for the FA Cup winners.

Medeama SC, who are in the CAF Champions League progressed to the next round of the competition following a 3-2 penalty shootout against Remo Stars in the second leg of the preliminary games.

The Ghana Premier League side recorded a 1-0 win in the first leg at the Cape Coast Stadium.

In the return leg, Medeama at the Remo Sports Complex in Ikkena, Ogun State on Sunday, August 27, 2023, lost by a lone goal after Felix Kyie failed to have a firm grip on the corner kick.

It is Medeama’s debut campaign in the CAF Champions League, having had two appearances in the second-tier club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup in 2013 and 2015.

Medeama will now face Guinea giants, Horoya Athletic Club in the next round of the qualifiers.

In the Confederations Cup, Dreams FC recorded a 2-1 win at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon to progress to the next round of the preliminary games.

The Ghanaian contingent had earlier drawn 1-1 in the first leg on Saturday, August 19 in Conakry, Guinea, and needed a win to secure qualification.

Dreams FC conceded the first goal in the first half through Seydouba Bangoura in the 12th minute.

The forward scored from the spot to level matters for the hosts.

The FA Cup winners left it late to score the second goal through experienced striker, John Antwi in the 90th minute which helped them finish the two legs at 3-2 aggregate.

Dreams FC will now play Sierra Leone club, Kallon FC in the final round of qualification.

The contingent, led by Executive Council Member Frederick Acheampong, is made up of 18 players, Technical team and Management staff who left Accra in the early hours of Thursday, August 17, via Asky Airline.

Both sides are making their first-ever appearance in continental football having excelled in their respective domestic competitions last season.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has appointed Moussa Diou from Mauritania as referee for the match. Diou will be working with compatriots Brahim Samed H’Made (Assistant I), Bouna Ndiaye (Assistant II) and Babacar Sarr (Fourth Referee).

Yameogo Koudougou David from Burkina Faso has been handed the role of Match Commissioner with Mohammed Tafsir Souma from Guinea named as the Medical Officer for the match.

This preliminary round 1st leg encounter, scheduled for 16:00 Hours. kick-off will take place at the General Lansana Conte stadium in Conakry on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

The Ghana Premier League side will represent the country in the 2023/24 CAF Confederations Cup.

The Still Believe lads defeated King Faisal at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese to lift the prestigious trophy.

Ahead of their maiden participation in the Confederations Cup, Dreams FC officials and some players today, August 10 visited the Sports Minister with the trophy.

Speaking at the gathering, General Manager Ameenu Shardow assured the sector minister they will improve their squad to make the country proud.

“We have made all the efforts to prepare the team well for this challenge,” he said.

“The technical and playing body have been boosted with some quality additions and we’re confident we will do well,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sports Minister also assured the side of government support and also charged them to perform.

“As a representative of the nation, it is our expectation that you put up a very good show,” he said.

“Ghana’s performance in African club competition in recent times have not been inspiring and it’s our hope that Dreams FC changes this narrative this season.

“We will do our best to offer all the support required to help you perform well,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dreams FC have been paired with Guinean side, Milo Stars in the preliminary round of the game.

Dreams FC will be hosted at the General Lansana Conte Stadium in the first leg on Saturday, August 19 before the return leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on August 25.

Other members that joined the team to visit the Sports Minister include Greater Accra RFA chairman Samuel Aboabir and Dreams FC President Mohammed Jiji Alifoe.

Abdul Karim Zito was also part of the delegation representing the technical team with Abdul Jalilu also leading a team of players.

The ‘Still Believe’ lads will be competing in the tournament for the first time in their history after winning the FA Cup against Kong Faisal.

The first preliminary round is scheduled to take place from 18 to 20 August for the first-leg matches and 25 to 27 August for the second-leg encounters.

The second preliminary will come off 15 to 17 September for the first leg games, and the returning fixtures are from September 19 to October 1.

Dreams will make the trip to Guinea for the first leg before coming home to host Milo at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second leg.

The winner of the tie will face either AS Douanes (Niger) or Kallon FC (Sierra Leone) in the second preliminary round for a spot in the group stage.

Dreams are participating in the CAF Confederation Cup and have become the 12th Ghanaian club to do so since its inception in 2004, where Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC and Hearts of Oak faced off in the final.

Medeama will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League after emerging as the champions of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

Dreams FC on the other hand will compete in the CAF Confederations Cup after winning the MTN FA Cup.

The draw of the preliminary round for both competitions will be held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

The draw will be live across all CAF TV Partners, CAF official website CAFONLINE.COM and the official CAF YouTube Channel, CAF TV.

The first preliminary round of the qualification is scheduled to take place from 18 to 20 August for the first leg matches and 25 to 27 August for the second leg encounters.

Meanwhile, the second preliminary will come off 15 to 17 September for the first leg games, and the returning fixtures are from September 19 to October 1.

The Yellow and Mauve last featured in the CAF Champions League in 2016 and advanced to the group stage.

Dreams FC, meanwhile, will play in Africa for the first time in their history.

The Dawu-based club who defeated King Faisal to win the FA Cup has been working to meet all requirements laid out by CAF in order to be eligible for the CAF Confederations Cup.

Considering the substandard nature of Dawu Park where Dreams FC play their home games, they had to settle on a more advanced venue that meets the basic requirements of Africa’s football governing body.

Shardow stated that his team will play their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium in accordance with the requirements imposed by the CAF.

“When CAF came for the inspection, they chose certain venues that are suitable for CAF competitions. According to the regulations, during the preliminary round of the competition, the rules are flexible. They tighten it when you progress to the group stages. For now, we have identified the Accra Sports Stadium as the venue for our Africa campaign,” he told Kessben FM.

This means, in the event that Dreams FC advance to further rounds of the competition they would have to hope the Accra Sports Stadium matches the demands of the competition or switch to another venue.

This will be the first time Dreams FC will compete in CAF inter-club competitions.

Medeama SC on Thursday, June 22, 2023, became the first Ghanaian club to be assessed by the Club Licensing Committee via the recently launched Club Licensing Online Platform.

Dreams FC, winners of the MTN FA Cup, were granted an extension in the application window on June 26, 2023, after consultation with the CAF Licensing Administration.

The club was given a lifeline of June 29, 2023, to complete their application after winning the MTN FA Cup.

The Club Licensing Committee, after a careful review of their documentation and the application process on Friday, June 30, 2023, granted the Club A License.

In the decision, the Club Licensing Committee also approved Dreams FC’s partnership agreement with Dreamz Ladies FC as their Women’s team as part of the licensing requirements and Fiase Golden Royals Ladies FC for Medeama SC respectively.

The Committee also approved the youth teams of the clubs, Tarkwa Barcelona Babies FC for Medeama SC and In God We Trust FC for Dreams FC.

“We wish to congratulate Medeama SC and Dreams FC on their successful application and applaud their Club Licensing Officers Joseph Tetteh Zutah and Enoch Agyare Addo for their exceptional professionalism and cooperation through this short but tedious period.”

CAF had June 30, 2023, as the deadline for member associations to confirm all decisions on applications.

It will be the club’s major first appearance in African football.

In a statement released by the club, the club disclosed their decision to venture into Africa following deliberations with all its stakeholders.

“The Board in its recent deliberations with Management is pleased to announce to its various stakeholders the decision to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup,” the statement read.

Dreams FC have already applied for and been duly issued the license by the instant body to make its first-ever appearance in an African club competition.

Dreams FC defeated King Faisal 2-0 to emerge as the champions of the FA Cup at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex at Abrankese.

The former Black Queens coach is currently unattached after parting ways with Legon Cities during the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

According to him, he is opened en to helping any of the two top teams in Ghana football history return to dominating again on the African continent. He says he has gotten better since his last job.

“I am ever ready to coach if called upon. Though I’m unattached now, I have not quit coaching,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“I am more mature now and my understanding of the game has grown, I am available for either Kotoko or Hearts.”

With both clubs yet to enjoy continental success since Hearts’ CAF Confederations Cup in 2004, Bashir adds that he could be the solution to ending that though it may not come ‘immediately.’

“When given the opportunity to coach any of these clubs, within three years, I will possibly deliver a continental trophy,” he continued.

“I normally use my first year of appointment to assess the players, groom the team and correct some mistakes. In the second year with some little infusion of new players, we are good to go. If we don’t win the league in my second year, surely in the 3rd season it will be a done deal.

“We can possibly win a continental trophy but it will not be immediate.”

But at the VVIP area, the National Chapters Committee chairman of the club, Elvis Herman Hesse was seen confronting Board Member, Vincent Sowah Odotei in a video uploaded by Joy Sports’ George Addo Jnr .

It is unknown what triggered the disagreement and the exchange of words in the VVIP area but it appears that Herman Hesse was not happy about something.

In the absence of a substantive head coach, Ocloo will be in charge of the game, having also taken charge of the first leg, only four days after he was announced assistant coach.

“This is Hearts of Oak and I have witnessed a similar situation before and I can say it is not over,” he said on Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.

“In the first leg, Hearts of Oak decided to dash the game out which was unfortunate in the return leg, things will definitely change.

“The players don’t need anything to beat ASR Bamako because the players know what is at stake. When I was there as an assistant coach, we had never won against Medeama at Tarkwa but with proper preparations, we went there and recorded a win.

“These players are capable of doing it,” he added.

Preko also implored the supporters to show up in their numbers to back the team to victory.

The game has been scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians came into the 2nd-half looking to get back in the encounter but were unable to find the back of the net, despite several goal attempts.

The home side added to their tally in the 74th minute, to put the game out of the reach of Hearts of Oak.

Real Bamako will travel to Accra for the return leg with the advantage, while Hearts of Oak will be hoping to turn the tie around in their favour.

The 2nd leg will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 15, 2022.

Boadu and his charges were poor in the just-ended 2021/22 Ghana Premier League despite winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

Hearts of Oak finished 6th on the league log with 48 points.

With many questioning the squad in-depth at the club, Boadu says his side will have enough preparation ahead of the campaign.

According to him, they will beef up the squad to make an impact and possibly win the ultimate.

“The likes of Al Ahly and other clubs are spending to buy quality players. They have the best facilities because they want to win.

They were then knocked out of the Confederation Cup by Algerian club JS Saoura, losing 4-0 away from home despite carrying a 2-0 lead into the second leg.

Registration for the competitions will kick off effectively on 1st August 2022 and end on 15 August 2022.

Each club is expected to register maximum of 40 players and use 11 players in a match with nine players on the bench with five players coming on as substitutes during the changes for substitution under the new directives.

The first leg of the 1st preliminary matches will be played on the weekend of September 9-11, 2022, and September 16-18, 2022.

The game was forced into penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation plus extra time, and it was the Moroccans who had the penalty luck over their South African counterparts.

Pirates forward Thembinkosi Lorch suffered the extremes of two emotions, scoring a 117th minute equalizer, and then stepping up to see his penalty saved in the shootout.

He was the only one who missed on Pirates’ side while Berkane converted all their five kicks through Hamza El Moussaoui, Youssef Zghoudi, Ismail Mokadem, Issoufou Dayo and Brahim El Bahraoui who scored the winner.

Happy Jele scored the first for Pirates before Lorch, who was also named man of the match, missed the second. Tshegofatso Mabasa, Thabang Monare and goalkeeper Richard Ofori scored the subsequent three, but Berkane didn’t miss any and took the honors.

In regulation time, Pirates had the chances and should have wrapped up the game early were they clinical enough.

As early as the third minute of the game, they had a glorious opportunity when Goodman Mosele sent Dean Hotto through on goal with a peach of a through pass, but the winger couldn’t get a strong curl on the ball with space ahead of him.

Mosele created another chance in the 18th minute when he whipped a cross from the right, but skipper Happy Jele’s header looped just over the target.

Their top scorer Bandile Shandu then forced Berkane keeper Hamiani to a neat save in the 33rd minute, his low sweep from the edge of the box being palmed away by a strong right hand from the shot stopper.

In the second half, Berkane somehow upped their attacking game but couldn’t thread in the shots at goal, Ofori not being busy for most of the game.

With no goals in regular time, the game had to go to an extra 30. It ended 1-1, and the winner was decided from 12 yards out.

The Phobians last weekend defeated the opponent 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium when the first leg of the tie was played.

With that advantage, Hearts of Oak were hoping to avoid a humiliating result to advance to the group stage of the CAF inter-club competition.

Unfortunately, a disastrous performance from the Phobians has seen the side losing 4-0 at the end of the 90 minutes.

The result means that Hearts of Oak have been defeated 4-2 on aggregate by JS Saoura and hence cannot progress to the money zone of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Ghanaian giants will return home and turn attention to the Ghana Premier League where they are yet to record a single win after playing four matches this season.

The Algerian side suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Ghana Premier League champions at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Playmaker, Ibrahim Salifu scored early in the first half to unsettle the Eagles before Agyenim Boateng came off the bench to net the winner.

Speaking in his post-match interview, coach Beliad Larbi applauded the performance of Hearts of Oak while noting that the opponent could have scored more.

“A very good display from Hearts of Oak, they could have scored us more goals but it looks like their 2-0 defeat against Ashanti Gold affected them today. However, we will prepare for the second leg,” Coach Beliad Larbi shared.

“We have five six days to prepare and improve. We want to play in the group stage and we hope to qualify for the next level,” he said.

Hearts of Oak will travel to Algiers to honour the second leg tie in December.
