He made the remarks in Kenyasi while monitoring the exams alongside the Regional Minister and officials from the Ghana Education Service.

Mr Dauda explained that the district has undertaken extensive sensitisation efforts involving candidates, invigilators, teachers and parents to educate them on the consequences of examination malpractice.

According to him, the district recorded some cases of malpractice last year, which affected its image, prompting authorities to intensify measures to prevent a recurrence.

He noted that the District Assembly, in collaboration with the education directorate and some non-governmental organisations, has rolled out targeted awareness campaigns to curb the practice.

Meanwhile, some candidates who spoke to Adom News expressed confidence in passing the exams, saying the questions so far have been within what they were taught in class.

They also commended the level of invigilation, describing it as strict and effective, and expressed hope that the standards would be maintained throughout the examination period.

DCE for Adaklu Waya cuts sod for school and sanitation projects https://www.adomonline.com/dce-for-adaklu-waya-cuts-sod-for-school-and-sanitation-projects/ Thu, 29 Jan 2026 15:13:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2625245 The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu and Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region, Jerry Ameko, has cut the sod for two major development projects aimed at boosting education and improving sanitation in the district.

The first project involves the construction of a two-unit kindergarten (KG) classroom block with ancillary facilities for the people of Wumenu. The facility is expected to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for early childhood education and strengthen the academic foundation of children in the community.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Mr. Ameko reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education. He emphasized that investment in early childhood education remains a key priority, as it supports child development and eases the burden on working parents.

In a related development, the DCE also cut the sod for the construction of a 10-seater toilet facility and four bathrooms for animal traders at Adaklu Waya. The project is aimed at addressing longstanding sanitation challenges at the animal trading centre, where access to decent washroom facilities has been limited.

Mr. Ameko noted that the sanitation facility would improve hygiene at the market and help prevent the spread of diseases, urging traders and users to take proper care of the facility once completed.

Traditional leaders, including Togbe Sekpe III, Chief of Adaklu Wumenu, together with community members and local authorities, expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for responding to their needs. They described the projects as timely interventions that will enhance education and public health in the area.

The projects form part of the NDC government and the Adaklu Waya District Assembly’s broader efforts to promote infrastructure development and improve living conditions across the district.

Jerry Ameko, has assured residents of Adaklu Kpatsu in the Volta Region that the long-abandoned Coastal Development Authority (CODA) Chips compound and nurses’ apartment will be completed and fully operational by the end of the month.

The assurance came during an inspection of the project site, which has long been a source of concern for the community. Speaking to Adom News correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, the DCE said significant progress has been made after years of stagnation.

“Completing this project by the end of the month is a top priority assigned by President John Dramani Mahama. It will bring relief and opportunities to the people of Adaklu Kpatsu and surrounding communities,” he stated.

Mr. Ameko commended the contractor for their dedication, noting that workers are operating day and night to meet the deadline under the government’s 24-hour economy policy championed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He explained that the operationalisation of the CODA Chips compound is expected to create employment, boost economic activity, and provide opportunities for local farmers and businesses to benefit from the facility.

The DCE urged residents to remain patient as final works are completed, assuring them that the facility will soon be fully functional. The inspection has renewed optimism among residents, who believe the project’s completion will bring lasting economic and social benefits to Adaklu Kpatsu.

According to him, the move reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s determination to fulfill the promises made during the 2024 election campaign, particularly in improving road infrastructure across the district.

Mr. Assabil Donkor noted that Hwidiem, as the district capital, is expected to see significant development under the Mahama-led administration, aimed at enhancing the living conditions of residents.

He further disclosed that the Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, and the District Assembly are working with the contractor to ensure that all town roads in Hwidiem are asphalted, addressing the dust problem affecting residents.

Asutifi South needs district police command to combat crime – DCE https://www.adomonline.com/asutifi-south-needs-district-police-command-to-combat-crime-dce/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 09:59:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615118 The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, has called for the district to be designated as a separate police command to strengthen efforts in combating crime.

Speaking to Adom News at Hwidiem during the final General Assembly meeting for 2025, Mr. Donkor said criminal activities such as armed robbery, drug trafficking, and drug abuse are on the rise, partly because Asutifi South currently falls under the Asutifi North District Police Command.

He noted that Asutifi South qualifies to operate as an independent district police command, adding that the Assembly has already provided a standard office facility and a bungalow for a district police commander.

Mr. Donkor therefore appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to urgently detach Asutifi South from Asutifi North in terms of police command structure, enabling the district to have adequate personnel to effectively combat crime.

He also urged the Chief Justice to post a permanent judge to the Hwidiem Circuit Court to ensure the smooth administration of justice.

He explained that the Assembly has constructed a well-secured bungalow for the judge, stressing that there is no justification for the continued absence of a resident judge in the district. According to him, the current judge in charge resides in Tepa in the Ashanti Region and travels daily to Hwidiem for court sittings, a situation he described as inconvenient and unsustainable.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Ansah, who filed the court case against the DCE, claimed that Mr Ntim has financially benefited from galamsey operations since assuming office.

“I swear on my life that the DCE is into galamsey. In just eight months as DCE, he has built a two-storey building and bought about 30 cars. Where did he get all the money? I should die if I am lying,” he alleged.

Mr Ansah further accused the DCE of using his position to control illegal mining activities in the area.

However, Atiwa East DCE Ernest Ntim has denied the allegations, describing them as false and malicious.

He maintained that the contempt case brought against him in an ongoing galamsey-related court matter was orchestrated to tarnish his image.

Mr Ntim reiterated that he remains committed to fighting illegal mining and believes the accusations are a backlash against his efforts to clamp down on galamsey activities in the district.

Ada East Assembly rejects President’s DCE nominee; Minister calls for unity https://www.adomonline.com/ada-east-assembly-rejects-presidents-dce-nominee-minister-calls-for-unity/ Fri, 09 May 2025 13:13:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2533464 The Ada East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has failed to confirm Kenneth Kabu Kanor, the President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE).

In a vote held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, Mr. Kanor secured 24 out of 38 valid votes, representing 63.2 percent—falling short of the required two-thirds majority (26 votes) needed for confirmation. Thirteen members voted against him, while one ballot was rejected.

As per local government regulations, the assembly is expected to reconvene within ten days for a second round of voting, which will determine whether the nominee is confirmed or rejected.

Reacting to the outcome, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, expressed disappointment and warned of the consequences of the delay.

“If you delay confirmation, you delay development; you delay progress,” she told Adom News.

The Minister cautioned that ongoing disunity within assemblies could hinder access to development initiatives.

“Municipal and District Assemblies risk losing out on development opportunities if they fail to confirm the President’s nominee,” she said.

She also urged assembly members to prioritize the district’s interest over personal grievances. “Don’t let personal issues with the nominee influence your vote,” she said.

The Minister was emphatic: “Those shortlisted and thinking they will be nominated if this nominee fails should know it’s not going to happen. If they reject him, we may even bring someone from outside.”

Mrs. Ocloo revealed she had advised Mr. Kanor to engage with assembly members to resolve any internal disagreements ahead of the next vote.

“I’ve asked the nominee to sit down with the members and address their concerns. I will return for his confirmation,” she added.

Adansi North Acting DCE flees office as Assembly Members protest alleged misconduct https://www.adomonline.com/adansi-north-acting-dce-flees-office-as-assembly-members-protest-alleged-misconduct/ Thu, 06 Feb 2025 08:50:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2501318 The Coordinating Director and acting District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Adansi North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Thomas Kwame Okrah, fled his office on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after aggrieved Assembly Members staged a protest against him.

The Assembly Members accused Mr. Okrah of disrespecting them and allegedly misusing the Assembly’s resources, including DRIP machines, for personal business.

They also claimed he tampered with the list of Assembly Members set to participate in the upcoming Council of State election.

Sensing the anger of the approaching protestors, Mr. Okrah quickly vacated his office before the Fomena police intervened to restore order.

Despite the restored calm, the Assembly Members have petitioned traditional authorities, the regional minister, and other relevant officials to push for Okrah’s immediate transfer from the district.

Speaking to Citi News, Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi outlined the reasons for their protest.

“Per the law, two members have to be selected from the Assembly Members. As the Presiding Member, I submitted the names to him for official endorsement and onward submission to the Regional Coordinating Council. However, I later discovered that the names had been changed without consultation. The Assembly Members were not happy with it, leading to the protest.”

He also reiterated concerns about the alleged misuse of the DRIP machines, claiming they had been used for unauthorized purposes.

“We also realized that the DRIP machines were being used for other work, and when we checked, names had been changed. We had to pack up the machines. We no longer want to work with him and have taken steps to ensure his transfer.

“A petition has been sent to the Coordinating Council, the regional minister, and the chiefs, and we have been assured that we will hear from them soon.”

Amansie Central Assembly Members accuse DCE of diverting Assembly funds https://www.adomonline.com/amansie-central-assembly-members-accuse-dce-of-diverting-assembly-funds/ Tue, 24 Dec 2024 14:59:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2487467 Tensions have escalated in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region as 28 elected Assembly Members clash with District Chief Executive (DCE) Michael Donkor over allegations of misappropriating the Assembly’s revenue.

The controversy surfaced when the Assembly Members stormed the District office in Jacobu, the district capital, to demand clarification from the DCE and the District Coordinating Director (DCD) on the alleged misconduct.

Speaking to Adom News, Stephen Sekyere, the Public Relations Officer for the Amansie Central Assembly, explained that the Assembly has operated peacefully since the last election.

However, concerns were raised after reports emerged about irregularities in the operations of the revenue task force.

Mr Sekyere stated that the task force, traditionally formed with representatives from the assembly members, selects a mining desk officer to oversee operations.

However, it was reported that the DCE had issued new stickers, claiming the existing ones were fake, and attempted to reassign the task force’s responsibilities without consulting the assembly members.

According to the Assembly members, the DCD instructed the mining desk officer to sign off on the new stickers and hand them over to a newly formed group, raising suspicions about the DCE’s intentions.

The Assembly member for the Mile 9 Electoral Area, Simon Kojo Antwi, accused the DCE of trying to divert internally generated revenue as his tenure nears its end.

Antwi expressed concerns that such actions could jeopardize the next administration, especially in the absence of the District Common Fund.

“This new task force is illegal, and we urge the public not to pay any taxes to them. If this is not stopped, the Assembly could face severe challenges starting January 8 when the new administration takes over,” he cautioned.

The Assembly members have demanded immediate answers from the DCE and DCD, insisting that transparency and adherence to proper procedures are necessary to protect the Assembly’s operations and finances.

Chereponi NPP supporters vandalise party pickups, other items over DCE nomination https://www.adomonline.com/chereponi-npp-supporters-vandalise-party-pickups-other-items-over-dce-nomination/ Sun, 19 Sep 2021 21:20:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2017419 Some angry youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Chereponi in the North East Region have poured out their agitation on the party’s property over District Chief Executive (DCE) nominations.

The aggrieved youth destroyed and burnt party pickups, pavilions among other items in response to the nomination of Hajia Zuweira Mada Nasheru as the DCE-select.

The youth also stormed the party’s constituency chairman, Aliu Sulemana’s house to set it ablaze but security officials intervened. The security has since taken over the chairman’s house for safety.

The youth started their agitation about three days ago, kicking against her appointment with the explanation that she joined the party recently.

The police have, however, stormed the area to foil any planned demonstration.

The Minister for Local Government on Sunday at a press briefing released names for the position of MMDCEs which saw the President’s choice, Hajia Zuweira, named as the DCE for Chereponi.

Nii Doku believes there has been a tremendous change in the area, looking back at the state of affairs when he assumed office.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Doku, among other things, said the area lacked some basic amenities including markets.

However, he noted he has managed to get work to commence for the construction of markets, adding that some have been completed with others at various stages.

“There were no markets so you will find people selling in front of their homes but there was an existing facility at Prampram which we have renovated and working to get the traders there and another at old Ningo.

“We are also looking forward to constructing market sheds in Miotso, especially to help students at Central University who have to walk all the way to Tema or Asahiman to get foodstuffs and Tsopoli among others and I believe If we are able to get these done, the area will be one to watch,” he said.

Nii Doku also recounted how the absence of data for the District and a lawyer affected certain operations in the past.

“There was no lawyer for the district so we could not take people to court for defaulting rent payments and other obligations but in recent times, we have been able to put people before the court to get them to pay debts and associated penalties,” he added.

NPP group ‘fights’ re-appointment of Sekyere Kumawu DCE https://www.adomonline.com/npp-group-fights-re-appointment-of-sekyere-kumawu-dce/ Fri, 12 Feb 2021 17:32:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1918967 Some residents of Sekyere Kumawu have appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo not to appoint the District Chief Executive (DCE), Samuel Addai Agyekum, for a second term.

According to them, if there should be an election for the position, Mr Agyekum would lose because he has woefully failed in the performance of his duties.

A statement released by a group, who identified themselves as New Patriotic Patriotic (NPP) members and citizens of Sekyere Kumawu, headed by Ofosu George, alleged that the NPP secured 78.2% in the 2016 election but his actions and inactions nearly caused the NPP to lose the parliamentary seat to an independent candidate as they struggled to attain 51.1% in the 2020 election.

The group accused him of moving from radio and television stations to attribute all developmental projects to himself.

They claimed he never acknowledged the efforts of the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for the area which in a way ridiculed the MP and the party at large.

They bemoaned the rise in arm robbery in the district which has caused business in the District’s busiest market at Bodomase to decline since traders have shunned it.

“We expected the DCE to show leadership in providing safety as well as protecting lives and property but there are no police patrol units on any of the roads that robbery attacks happen,” the statement noted.

Mr Agyekum, they added, allegedly disrespected the MP in the presence of other regional officials.

“On my way, from routine campaign stops when I reached Adugyama, I heard gunshots so I asked my driver to stop the car, I could see the armed men in a Rambo style robbing traders at the market centre,” the DCE said.

AUDIO: Rejected DCE nominee admits paying bribe to 27 assembly members https://www.adomonline.com/audio-rejected-dce-nominee-admits-paying-bribe-to-27-assembly-members/ Wed, 01 Aug 2018 10:11:38 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1239611

Berekum West District Chief Executive Nominee, Martin Obeng Adjei, has admitted paying an amount of GH¢2,000.00 each to 27 Assembly members to vote for him as DCE.

According to him, he was forced to pay the money because the assembly members demanded it from him as a prerequisite for confirming his nomination.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Dwaso Nsem show Wednesday, Mr Obeng Adjei said he was forced to borrow the money from friends who are now putting pressure on him to pay back.

READ THESE:

I had an agreement with the assembly members and they assured me of voting for me and because I knew I wouldn’t get all that money, I went to some friends and borrowed money from them so I can pay the bribe. I was under pressure to pay because the assembly members demanded it before they vote for me” he said.

Assembly Members at the Berekum West District Assembly on Friday rejected the President’s nominee for the position of a District Chief Executive, Mr Martin Obeng Adjei.

The nominee polled twelve votes, representing 44.4% with 15 rejected votes, representing 55.6%.

The nominee, therefore, couldn’t get the 50% votes to confirm him as the first District Chief Executive for Berekum West, one of the new Assemblies created recently by the New Patriotic Party’s Government.

There were reports that Mr Obeng-Adjei allegedly paid GH¢2000 cash to each assembly member to influence their votes.

That allegation has now been confirmed by Mr Obeng-Adjei himself who says he is bent on retrieving the GH¢2000 paid to each assembly member for voting against him.

He said so far only two Assembly members have paid back the money.

But Assembly member the Nana Boakye Electoral Area who only gave his name as Emmanuel on the same show said they rejected Mr Obeng-Adjei’s nomination because they realised he had no vision for the newly-created district.

“Yes he gave me money and I took it. I knew he had no vision for the district and so if we decide to vote for him, he will only end up destroying the party in the region and will not work in the interest of the district”, he said.

A meeting by the newly-created Berekum West District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region to decide the fate of President Akufo-Addo’s nominee as District Chief Executive ended inconclusively last Friday.

This is because the nominee, Martin Obeng-Adjei, did not get the required two-thirds majority to become the District Chief Executive (DCE).

The nominee obtained 12 votes which fell short of the 18 needed in the 27-member Assembly.

Matters arising out of the outcome of the election has generated heat in the area as there are reports that associates of the nominee are bent on retrieving the GH¢2000 paid to each assembly member to influence them to confirm Mr Obeng-Adjei’s nomination.

Mr Martin Obeng Adjei has confirmed that he paid an amount of GH 2,000.00 each to the 27 Assembly members to vote as DCE for Berekum West, but they voted against him.

I was overconfident but little did I know that they actually deceived me so I have asked all of them to refund the money I gave them because they took me for granted. I am very disappointed in them”, he alleged.

Mr Obeng Adjei said some of the Assembly members have since assured him of paying back the money since they voted against him.

Audio: Reinstate suspended Denkyira Obuasi DCE- Ken begs Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/audio-reinstate-suspended-denkyira-obuasi-dce-ken-begs-akufo-addo/ Tue, 07 Nov 2017 16:11:46 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=642091 Outspoken New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Assin Central constituency in the Central region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is calling on the President to reinstate the suspended District Chief Executive for Denkyira Obuasi Daniel Appiannin.
“I am appealing to the President to reinstate the DCE for Denkyira-Obuasi because whatever he said was true” he said.
Denkyira Obuasi made the headlines for the wrong reason some three months ago following the lynching murder of Major Maxwell Mahama by residents on suspicion he was an armed robber at a time the deceased had been posted to the area as detachment commander to fight illegal mining (galamsey).
In an interview following the incident, the DCE, Mr Appiannin said he was unaware that the officer was part of a detachment to the area assisting in the fight against galamsey.
As far as he was concerned, the residents resorted to lynching because they assumed he was protecting some Chinese nationals who were engaged in galamsey.
Mr. Daniel Appianinn was asked to step aside following some comments he passed on the presence of the army in the area leading to the death of late Maj. Maxwell Mahama.
He had indicated that the soldiers were there to protect some illegal miners in the area and not there on any duty in the supreme interest of the state.
Social media descended heavily on the DCE’s condemning the comments which many believed was insensitive and ignorant.
But Mr Agyapong speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday pleaded with the President to allow the DCE to go back to work since he is the only person who can champion development in the area.
He explained that the reinstatement of Daniel Appianing will help restore calm in the troubled town of Denkyira Obuasi and the entire district.
“I am pleading with the President to forgive the Denkyira DCE and bring him back to work. Yes, his timing was wrong but I think what he said was the truth but I decided not to talk because we were all mourning the Captain and so he should re-instate him now” he noted.

I won’t allow another ‘Denkyira-Obuasi’ incident to happen in Nyinahini – DCE https://www.adomonline.com/wont-allow-another-denkyira-obuasi-incident-happen-nyinahini-dce/ Wed, 23 Aug 2017 10:08:59 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=424971 The District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti region, Williams Darko has asked the Chief of Nyinanhini, Nana Amanpene Twum Boateng II to immediately return to the town and ensure unity and peace for the development of the town.
According to him, he will desist any attempt by anyone to cause mayhem in the town after he seized mining equipment belonging to Engineers & Planners.
“We are not ready to fight with anyone and allow what happened in Denkyira Obuasi to happen in our town. I will not allow that and so we urge the chief to rather come to his town so we can jaw jaw and move the town forward” he said on Accra based Neat fm.
The chief in the area took a swipe at Atwima Mponua DCE for his role in an attack on a mining concession belonging to Exton Cubic Group Limited.
He accused Williams Darko of inciting the youth to seize mining equipment and prevented the partners the firm, Engineers & Planners, from entering the concession.
Nana Amanpene Twum Boateng II warned the action of the DCE could have triggered the events akin to what was recorded in the Central Region town of Denkyira Obuasi, which led to the lynching of an army officer.
But reacting to the issue, Mr Williams Darko expressed shock at the assertions of the chief.
He described as false claims by the Chief of Nyinanhini, Nana Amanpene Twum Boateng II that he incited the youth in the area against mining company, Exton Cubic Group Limited.
He is of the view that he personally seized mining equipment and prevented the partners the firm, Engineers & Planners, from entering the bauxite concession.
Mr Darko insists the equipment were seized because of improper documentation.
Meanwhile, Exton Cubic Group Limited has threatened to take legal action against the Ashanti Regional Minister if he does not release the equipment belonging to Engineers and Planners owned by Ibrahim Mahama.

But reacting to the issue on Adom News Tuesday, Williams Darko expressed shock at the assertions of the chief.
He maintained that, he never mobilized the youth in the area to create unnecessary tension in the area.
“I personally stopped the mining equipment of Engineers & Planners from entering the concession until I get the necessary documentations and later informed the police. I never mobilized the youth” he stressed.
The Atwima Mponua DCE believes the chief is reacting on hearsay since he was not there when the incident occurred.
Williams Darko who has vowed to protect state property said the equipment will remain in the custody of the police until the right things are done.
“I have vowed to protect any property of the state and I won’t allow anybody to mine the in bauxite concession until they bring me the necessary documents” he opined.

South Tongu NPP protest new DCE https://www.adomonline.com/south-tongu-npp-protest-new-dce/ Thu, 10 Aug 2017 07:36:46 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=379371 Some aggrieved members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have expressed their displeasure and disappointment about the circumstances surrounding the nominations, election, and confirmation of Emmanuel Louis Agamah as DCE for the area.
Addressing a press conference at Sogakope, the group described the confirmation of the President’s nominee as breaching party conventions.
During the confirmation of Emmanuel Louis Agamah as DCE for the South Tongu District, people were admitted into the hall to witness the event only after they have passed accreditation procedures.
There was also heavy security presence in and around the hall in order to apparently maintain law and order at the venue. A number of dignitaries including party gurus were present at the function.
The aggrieved members of the NPP told the press that the future of the party in the district is bleak unless they see an end to what they describe as the suppression and discrimination from the regional executive of the party.
A Spokesperson for the group, Thomas Agbo, catalogued a number of their frustrations which includes the alleged use of fake security personnel as National Security at the confirmation.
Meanwhile, a leading member of the ruling NPP in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, Patrick Mensah Dawukpor, has appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to personally intervene in the current dispute in the area.
Speaking at the Sogakope press conference, Mr. Dawukpor blamed the party’s woes in the constituency on the divisive attitudes of the Regional Executives of the party.
There is enough evidence on the ground to suggest that the NPP hierarchy and its entire membership in the South Tongu Constituency are divided along personality lines.
One group and its members have been very supportive of the DCE, Emmanuel Louis Agamah, while the other group has support for the party’s Parliamentary Candidate in the 2016 general elections, Seth Agbi.
Mr. Dawukpor has, however, called on the Presidency to urgently intervene by stepping into the region to see things for themselves.
According to him, if nothing is done about the situation, they would have no option than to retire from the party.

Gushegu DCE confirmed amidst controversies https://www.adomonline.com/gushegu-dce-confirmed-amidst-controversies/ Wed, 28 Jun 2017 17:54:45 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=254691 In spite of the high uncertainties that surrounded his confirmation, the President’s nominee for Gushegu district in the Northern region, Musah Issah received a 100% endorsement as District Chief Executive (DCE).

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed led by a team to the assembly to ensure the confirmation is done successfully.

This is in total disregard to a warning issued by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern region chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu.

He claimed the Konkombas in the area are peeved over Musah Issah nomination and have threatened to cause mayhem.

But the the Regional Minister Salifu Saeed and his deputy Solomon Buah led by team Wednesday June 28 to ensure Mr. Musah Issah is gets majority of the votes to be the DCE for the Gushegu district.

Musah Issah was confirmed by 28 out of 36 Assembly members representing 78 percent of the total votes cast.

Meanwhile, efforts by Adom News to get Bugri Naabu to react to the story proved futile.

]]> Hot Audio: Bugri Naabu stops Gushegu DCE confirmation https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-bugri-naabu-stops-gushegu-dce-confirmation/ Wed, 28 Jun 2017 14:46:20 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=254321 The Northern regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu has called off indefinitely a process to confirm the District Chief Executive nominees for Gushegu West Mamprusi and Bunkprugu districts in the Northern Region.

The President on Friday nominated new District Chief Executives for Gushegu, West Mamprusi and Bunkprugu districts but since the announcement of the list of the new nominees in the northern region, there has been tension, acrimony and rioting especially in the West Mamprusi town of Walewale.

According to Bugri Naabu in the case of Gushegu, the Konkombas are threatening to attack facilities of the party because they feel cheated and deceived.

He claims the Konkombas feel cheated by the NPP as the initial plan was for them to support the party to win some parliamentary seats in the area in order to have some of their own appointed as DCEs in return.

“In Gushegu, Konkombas are threatening to attack our party facilities and destroy them because they feel deceived and cheated. It was an agreement [among] them and the Vice President and the regional chairman and even the President that if they should vote for the MP to win, the Konkombas would be appointed as DCE.

“But now they have realized they have been deceived, because the MP is the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Alhaji Tampuli is the Chief Executive Officer for the National Petroleum Authority, and Rita Tani is a Deputy [High Commissioner] to the United Kingdom, and just the DCE position for the Konkombas. They have been denied again and so there is tension brewing in the area.” He said.

Mr. Bugri Naabu says he sees as security threat and therefore has asked for a holdup onto the confirmation of the nominees of West Mamprusi and Gushegu until he further consult the President on the matter for an amicable resolution.

Suspended Upper Denkyira West DCE vacates post https://www.adomonline.com/suspended-upper-denkyira-west-dce-vacates-post/ Sat, 03 Jun 2017 10:24:32 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=149621 The District Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira West District in the Central, Daniel Appianing, has finally vacated his post and handed over to the Deputy Central Regional Minister.

The President, through the Ministry of Local Government, directed him to step aside, while investigations continue into the gruesome murder of a military officer, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.

Capt. Mahama was lynched by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi on Monday after he was mistaken for an armed robber.

The DCE of the area has since accused the military officer for his the death.

According to him, Capt. Mahama and his colleagues from the 5th Infantry Battalion who were deployed to wage war on illegal mining, were instead protecting illegal miners.

Mr Appianing was however suspended on Thursday after public anger over his comments, but had insisted that he was still at post because there was no official communication about his suspension.

But the Deputy Local government Minister, O.B Amoah, has told Citi News, the DCE has finally left office.

“I spoke with the Regional Minister last night, and he said his deputy was on his way to take over. He had officially spoken and written to the DCE so I expect that this morning if there is any handing over he [DCE] would have done it or been in the process of doing it for the Deputy Regional Minister to take over,” OB Amoah noted.

He added that a report will be forwarded the President as soon as it was ready to enable the President take a definite position on the issue.

“…The President needs a formal report from the Regional Minister and other heads of agencies as soon as it’s ready, [and] if there is any report that the President needs it will be provided to him,” the deputy Local Government Minister said.

His comments which did not go down well for some section of the public called on the President to immediately relieve the DCE of his post.

Give our DCE another chance – Upper Denkyira Youth begs Nana Addo https://www.adomonline.com/give-dce-another-chance-upper-denkyira-youth-begs-nana-addo/ https://www.adomonline.com/give-dce-another-chance-upper-denkyira-youth-begs-nana-addo/#comments Thu, 01 Jun 2017 10:09:37 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=146551 The youth of Upper West Denkyira in the Central Region have pleaded with President Akufo Addo not to sack their District Chief Executive (DCE) for making certain comments that sought to justify the lynching of Captain Mahama.

Daniel Appianing responding to the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Tuesday claimed that the lynched Army Captain was the head of a team from the military which has been protecting illegal Chinese galamseyers in the area.

Mr Appiaing said he was unaware that the officer was part of a detachment to the area assisting in the fight against galamsey.

As far as he was concerned, the residents resorted to lynching because they assumed he was protecting some Chinese nationals who were engaged in galamsey.

“There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese and the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of it, in fact, he is said to be the leader… I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers,” he said.

His comment which did not go down well with some members of the pubic have led to several calls for him to be sacked from his position.

Reacting to the calls on the same show on Thursday, the leader of the Concerned Youth of Upper West Denkyira, Richmond Kodua noted that in as much as the comments of the DCE in the wake of the lynching of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama is distasteful, that should not be enough grounds to warrant his immediate dismissal.

“Yes, our DCE’s comments were in a bad taste, we agree but we urge Ghanaians to exercise patience so we find solutions to the problem at hand instead of calling for his head. We plead on his behalf that the President will give him another chance because that’s all we want now,” he said.

Soldier’s lynching not surprising: Man returning from all-night was nearly killed https://www.adomonline.com/soldiers-lynching-not-surprising-man-returning-night-nearly-killed/ https://www.adomonline.com/soldiers-lynching-not-surprising-man-returning-night-nearly-killed/#comments Tue, 30 May 2017 19:07:53 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=143521 A former District Chief Executive of the Upper Denkyira West Assembly says the dastard lynching of an army captain at Diaso comes as no surprise to him because the people there appear pre-disposed to savagery.

Piecing together his experiences during his three-year tenure as DCE, Ambrose Ashia said he observed the people of Denkyira-Oboasi in the Central region have a war-like temperament.

Naked, bleeding and bloodied, an army captain posted to the area about three weeks ago got no mercy from some men in the mining town on suspicion of armed robbery.

A video showing a woman igniting a fire on the mortal remains of the soldier has ignited fresh national outrage.

Social media is awash with anger and the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has vowed to deal with the culprits who murdered the man now established to be the nephew of former President John Mahama.

Relatively little known, the Denkyira-Obuasi area is now the center of immense national interest and the scene of massive hunt for Monday morning mob’s moment of madness.

As the country struggles to come to terms with the tragic case of instant justice, the former DCE Ambrose Ashia shared his gleanings of the largely rural community of more than 60,000.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM Tuesday, Ambrose Ashia said while he does not intend to stereotype the residents, he had observed some dominant traits among the people.

According to him, those who urge peace in the conflict-prone district are seen as weak and womanish.

“I don’t intend to disgrace anybody”, he prefaced a tale of lawlessness he had witnessed after he was appointed DCE in 2014.

Ambroe Ashia [ left]

He said sometime past, a young man who was returning from an all-night church service, was nearly lynched on suspicion that he was a serial killer.

According to him, the Assemblyman for the area was fingered in that attack on the man returning from prayers.

In the lynching of Maxwell Adam Mahama, the Assembly man is once again suspected to have played a role. The police are now on a man-hunt for the Assembly man.

In another incident in 2014, Mr. Ashia said a Chinese contractor tasked to build a road from Ayamfuri to Asanweneso was harassed several times by youth in the area.

He said they would go to the site, seize equipment, beat up workers and threaten the contractor not to return to the site.

The youth said the contractor had failed to fulfil his social corporate responsibilities to the community, the former DCE explained.

Ambrose Ashia said a chieftaincy dispute in the district is also threatening the peace as residents are divided among claimants to the stool.

The divided influence of traditional authority, he said, fuels lawlessness in the Denkyira-Oboasi area.

In his assessment, “psyche of the community is that of impunity savagery and lawlessness”. Otherwise ‘how dare a woman pour petrol on a soldier?”
