Residents of Nkroful, the hometown of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, on Wednesday staged a demonstration against the government to protest over the bad road which links the town to Essiama Village.

The demonstrators, numbering about 600, threatened to boycott all national activities should government fail to construct the 4-kilometre road stretch linking the two towns.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Chief of Nkroful Traditional area, Nana Kwesi Kutuah, said the road linking the two towns has been in a deplorable state since Rawlings’ regime.

Residents of the area also expressed their anger at successive governments for failing to fulfil campaign promises of fixing the road and have vowed not to vote in the 2020 general elections.

“The road is bad, government officials always come to promise us that they will fix the road but fail. Akufo-Addo promised to fix it after winning the elections but hasn’t; if he doesn’t fix the road, we will not vote in 2020,” a resident lamented.

The residents also threatened to continue the week-long demonstration which they started on Wednesday to register their displeasure with the government.
