The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, disclosed the arrest in a social media post, stating that the fresh arrest was a result of Aludiba’s attempt to empty a frozen bank account linked to the ongoing criminal case against him.

He described it as a fresh twist in the trial of the former NAFCO CEO, who is facing charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic.

According to Dr Srem-Sai, the trial High Court had earlier granted Mr Aludiba leave to travel to the UK for a few days, but his attempt to use false means to empty his frozen account with Republic Bank on Thursday triggered the arrest.

“Law enforcement officers have, a while ago, arrested Mr Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba at the Accra International Airport,” the Deputy Attorney-General wrote.

He added that the Attorney-General would, on Monday, seek a review of the court order that permitted Mr Aludiba to travel outside the country.

Mr Aludiba is standing trial alongside his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, over allegations of financial impropriety running into millions of cedis during his time at the helm of NAFCO.

Some of his bank accounts were frozen as part of measures to preserve assets pending the outcome of the case.

Fire destroys house master’s office, storeroom at Adonten SHS https://www.adomonline.com/fire-destroys-house-masters-office-storeroom-at-adonten-shs/ Sat, 04 Jul 2026 17:41:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679881 Firefighters from the Aburi and Akropong Fire Stations have contained a fire outbreak at Adonten Senior High School, preventing the blaze from spreading beyond the school’s science block.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 4, the Ghana National Fire Service said the fire caused extensive damage to the House Master’s office, a storeroom and several educational and administrative materials.

“The fire destroyed the House Master’s office, storeroom, and several school items, including office equipment, books, uniforms and electronic devices, while firefighters successfully salvaged library books and gardening tools,” the Service said.

According to the Fire Service, the swift and coordinated response by personnel from the two stations prevented the fire from spreading to other critical parts of the school, significantly limiting the extent of the destruction.

It noted that before firefighters arrived at the scene, staff and students had attempted to extinguish the blaze but were unable to bring it under control.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.

The Ghana National Fire Service said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, while authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.

“I lost everything… the house is empty” – Dennis Miracles Aboagye recounts flood ordeal https://www.adomonline.com/i-lost-everything-the-house-is-empty-dennis-miracles-aboagye-recounts-flood-ordeal/ Sat, 04 Jul 2026 11:03:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679813 Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has recounted the devastating impact of the recent floods, revealing that he lost virtually all his belongings after floodwaters swept through his home.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, July 4, Mr Aboagye described the destruction as overwhelming, saying his family has been left with nothing and will have to rebuild from scratch.

“I lost everything, and I have nothing in my house. The house is empty, and we need to start everything again,” he said.

He explained that the force of the floodwaters was so intense that it broke through the main gate of his house, illustrating the sheer power of the flooding.

“As a matter of fact, the water broke the main gate, and if the water was able to break the main gate, it should tell you the strength of the water,” he stated.

His account comes in the wake of the recent torrential rains, which triggered widespread flooding across several parts of Accra and other communities.

The floods submerged homes, businesses, roads and public infrastructure, displaced residents, disrupted transportation, destroyed properties, and prompted emergency rescue operations by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Police Service.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage while providing relief to affected communities.

I’m fulfilling my father’s final wishes, not chasing inheritance – Adwoa Safo https://www.adomonline.com/im-fulfilling-my-fathers-final-wishes-not-chasing-inheritance-adwoa-safo/ Sat, 04 Jul 2026 09:35:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679803 Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has dismissed claims that the ongoing dispute surrounding the Kristo Asafo Mission is about her desire to lead the church or inherit her late father’s estate.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, following what she described as an assassination attempt on her life on June 21, Ms Safo said the public had misunderstood the real issues at the heart of the dispute.

“The matter at hand is neither about any aspiration on my part to lead the Kristo Asafo Church, nor does it concern a dispute over church property or, for that matter, inheritance,” she stated.

She stressed that she has never sought personal wealth from the estate of her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, insisting that she has always chosen a life of independence and integrity.

“I have never sought to draw wealth or personal gain from my late father’s estate or properties, but have for many years, even before the passing of our dear dad, chosen to walk a path defined by integrity, contentment, independence and self-determined effort,” she said.

According to Ms Safo, the disagreement is centred on the implementation of amendments made to the church’s constitution by Apostle Kwadwo Safo in 2024. She explained that the revised constitution removed Israel Kwadwo Safo as leader of the church and later installed her as head of the Kantanka family in February 2025.

She said her father specifically instructed her on his deathbed to ensure the constitutional changes were respected and implemented.

“On his death bed, my dad instructed me to ensure that this provision was expressly upheld, and I consider it my duty and responsibility to honour that directive as his first child,” she noted.

Ms Safo also rejected suggestions that her father’s estate lacked legal direction, stating that Apostle Kwadwo Safo left behind a valid will outlining how his properties and inheritance should be administered.

“It is also important to state clearly that my dad did not die intestate. He left a valid Will, which I believe sets out definitive provisions for the administration of his estate, including his properties and inheritance, all of which will be properly addressed and given effect upon the formal reading and execution of same,” she said.

She maintained that her overriding objective is to ensure justice for her late father, her family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, while remaining committed to fulfilling what she described as her father’s final wishes.

July 3, 2026.

STATEMENT BY SARAH ADWOA SAFO FOR JUSTICE ON ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON HER LIFE.

Following the disturbing and very brazen assassination attempt on my life on the morning of Sunday June 21, 2026, I feel it is imperative to address the public directly on the matters leading to this grave and deeply unfortunate incident and its aftermath.

Firstly, I am profoundly grateful to be alive, and I do not take that reality for granted. With bullets, flying all around me on that fateful Sunday morning and the thought of losing my life and leaving behind my two young children has been deeply distressing as a mother and will remain an experience I cannot wish for any one. I am eternally grateful to God for my life.

No one should ever have to live under the threat of violence or intimidation, most especially, a woman standing firm in her convictions and carrying out the dying wishes and responsibilities bestowed on her.

My near death experience is even the more troubling, in that, if an attempt of this nature can happen to a Woman of my Background, Standing, and Public Persona and afterwards there is a seeming lacklustre interest in pursuing and bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book and ensure Justice is served, raises very serious concerns for every Ghanaian in this country in relation to the broader implications for public safety, the administration of justice, and the protection of especially women and the vulnerable in our society.

While I fully respect the right of every accused person to due process and the presumption of innocence, I believe it is equally important that the justice system is seen to be firm, fair, impartial, and sensitive to the experiences of victims, especially women.

Let me also be explicitly clear on the facts, because there has been a lot of speculation and misinformation on the issues leading to the shooting attempt on my life.

The matter at hand is neither about any aspiration on my part to lead the Kristo Asafo Church, nor does it concern a dispute over church property or, for that matter, inheritance.

I say with modesty, that I am deeply blessed to be self made and I have never sought to draw wealth or personal gain from my late father’s estate or properties, but have for many years even before the passing of our dear dad, chosen to walk a path defined by integrity, contentment, independence, and self-determined effort.

My position has been about upholding the dying wishes of our dad and the enforcement of the church’s amended constitution, which was directed by my late dad, Apostle Kwadwo Safo in 2024, removing Israel Kwadwo Safo as leader of the Church and thereafter, installing me as the leader of the Kantanka Family in February 2025.

On his death bed, my dad instructed me to ensure that this provision was expressly upheld, and I consider it my duty and responsibility to honour that directive as his first child.[Find attached, extract of letter from me to the leadership of the Church]

It is also important to state clearly that my dad did not die intestate. He left a valid Will, which I believe sets out definitive provisions for the administration of his estate, including his properties and inheritance all of which will be properly addressed and given effect upon the formal reading and execution of same.

I want to sincerely thank my family for their support, my siblings for their constant presence, my two kids, Kelvin and Daniella, the doctors and medical team for their care, my friends, well-wishers and the Ghanaian people for their immense support, prayers, encouragement, and goodwill messages during this very difficult period. It has meant more than words can express.

At the heart of all of this must be Justice for Apostle Kwadwo Safo and all he worked and stood for, Justice for myself, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Justice for my family, Justice for the Kristo Asafo Church, Justice for the thousands in Dome-Kwabenya whom I served in the last 12 years and Justice for the many women who continue to face intimidation in a patriarchal society, and Justice for every Ghanaian who is increasingly worried that justice is not always guaranteed equally.

Justice must not only exist in principle. It must be seen, felt, and experienced by all. Justice must manifestly be seen to be done right to, and by all.

Sarah Adwoa Safo(Esq.)

Floods: Two bodies recovered at Adakope near Weija https://www.adomonline.com/floods-two-bodies-recovered-at-adakope-near-weija/ Fri, 03 Jul 2026 15:58:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679731 The remains of two persons suspected to have died in recent flooding have been retrieved at Adakope near Weija in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The bodies were discovered on the evening of Thursday, July 2, according to the Presiding Member for the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, who confirmed the incident and said the victims are believed to have been swept away by floodwaters.

He noted that the bodies have been conveyed by police to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra for preservation and further investigations.

The discovery adds to growing concerns over the impact of persistent flooding in parts of the municipality, which has repeatedly affected lives and property during heavy rains.

Mr. Blankson, who also serves as the Assembly’s Presiding Member, has appealed to the Ministry of Local Government to urgently support the Assembly with funding to help address the recurring flooding challenges in the area.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that the government will begin distributing relief items to flood-affected communities across the country from Saturday, July 4, as part of efforts to support victims of the recent heavy rains

GNFS contains tanker fire after deadly crash on Akosombo–Tema highway https://www.adomonline.com/gnfs-contains-tanker-fire-after-deadly-crash-on-akosombo-tema-highway/ Fri, 03 Jul 2026 12:54:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679682 The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a tanker fire following a fatal road crash at Teye Kwame on the Akosombo–Tema Highway in the early hours of June 28, 2026.

According to the Somanya Municipal Fire Station, a distress call was received at 0441 hours, prompting the immediate deployment of a five-member crew led by Station Officer II Oteng.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters met an overturned tanker fully engulfed in flames. The crew quickly mounted a foam attack to prevent the fire from spreading and brought the blaze under control at 0558 hours before completely extinguishing it by 0603 hours.

Tragically, one male, believed to be the driver of the tanker, was found burnt beyond recognition. The driver’s mate also sustained severe burns and was rushed by ambulance to the Akuse Hospital for emergency treatment.

The tanker was completely destroyed in the inferno.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, as investigators say the extensive damage and limited information at the scene are hampering early conclusions.

The GNFS says further investigations are underway to establish what led to the deadly accident.

Foreign Affairs Ministry introduces fast-track passport replacement for flood victims https://www.adomonline.com/foreign-affairs-ministry-introduces-fast-track-passport-replacement-for-flood-victims/ Fri, 03 Jul 2026 12:08:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679666 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an expedited process for replacing passports lost or damaged during the recent floods, as government intensifies efforts to support victims affected by the disaster.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, the Ministry expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and solidarity with all those affected by the flooding that submerged parts of Accra and other communities earlier this week.

According to the Ministry, many Ghanaians lost or had their passports damaged during the floods, prompting the introduction of a fast-track replacement process.

“The Ministry recognises that due to the floods many Ghanaians may have either lost their passports or had them damaged. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods,” the statement said.

The initiative forms part of government’s broader response to the disaster following directives from President John Dramani Mahama to support affected households and restore essential public services.

Under the arrangement, affected persons are required to contact the Ministry through a dedicated hotline, 055 936 8563, between Friday, July 3 and Friday, July 17, 2026.

Applicants will be required to provide their full name, date of birth, gender as captured on the lost passport, and a reachable telephone number to facilitate the replacement process.

The Ministry assured the public that replacement passports will be processed within one week after applicants complete the required procedures.

The flooding, which began on June 28 and intensified the following day, caused widespread destruction across parts of the Greater Accra Region, destroying homes, businesses and personal documents, while also claiming several lives.

The passport replacement initiative adds to a series of government interventions aimed at assisting flood victims as recovery efforts continue across affected communities.

The Ministry said the expedited process is intended to ease the burden on victims and enable them to replace their travel documents without unnecessary delays as they rebuild their lives.

Truck bursts into flames at Wassa Akropong, driver reportedly escapes unhurt https://www.adomonline.com/truck-bursts-into-flames-at-wassa-akropong-driver-reportedly-escapes-unhurt/ Fri, 03 Jul 2026 08:39:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679574 A truck driver is reported to have escaped unharmed after the vehicle he was driving burst into flames while moving through Wassa Akropong.

In a video that has since spread widely on social media, smoke can be seen rising from the rear of the truck before the truck is suddenly engulfed in fire. Parts of its body appear to break apart as the blaze intensifies, and bystanders are seen with little room to react before the rear of the truck is completely consumed.

According to the caption accompanying the footage, first shared by a X (Twitter) user on June 30, the driver got out of the truck safely as it burned. The vehicle itself was not as fortunate, reduced to a wreck by the fire before anyone nearby could act.

What caused the fire has not yet been established, and there has been no official comment from the Ghana National Fire Service or police on the incident as of now.

Ghanaian former security guard who fled to Ghana with £117,000 bank heist cash jailed in UK https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaian-former-security-guard-who-fled-to-ghana-with-117000-bank-heist-cash-jailed-in-uk/ Thu, 02 Jul 2026 19:22:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679497 A former G4S security guard has been jailed for three years and four months in the United Kingdom after using his old work uniform to trick bank staff into handing over £117,200, then fleeing to Ghana with the money for nearly four years.

40-year-old Kwabena Kissi walked into a Santander branch in Brixton, south London, on July 5, 2022, wearing a helmet with the visor down, a face mask, and a G4S uniform from a job he had resigned from two years earlier, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

CCTV footage played in court showed staff buzzing him into the secure office, where they handed him bags of cash, believing he was on a routine collection.

Kissi calmly walked out with the money in a briefcase, changed his clothes nearby, transferred the cash into a bin bag, and left the scene in an Uber.

Prosecutor Imogen Nelson told the court that Santander’s vault manager, Otis Williams, had bagged up £256,000 for collection that day across eleven bags.

When one member of staff remarked that Kissi had arrived early, he told them he was on a new route, and no suspicion was raised at that point. Staff only grew concerned when Kissi failed to return for a second pickup and realised something was wrong once the genuine G4S courier turned up for the actual collection.

Kissi returned to Accra a day after the theft and lived here with his ailing mother for close to four years.

His scheme, however, fell apart when he returned to the UK on March 26 this year and made the mistake of booking an Uber using his real name and phone number, the same phone he had used during the 2022 heist.

Police, who had been monitoring for his return, arrested him as he landed at Gatwick Airport. He initially claimed mistaken identity, but officers matched the handset to the one used in the original fraud.

In April, Kissi admitted fraud by false representation. A second charge of possessing criminal property was dropped.

Footage played in court shows Kwabena Kissi, 40, carrying a large security briefcase and entering a Santander bank in Brixton , south London , on July 5, 2022

His lawyer, Piers Walter, told the court Kissi had gone to Ghana to care for his mother, who was in financial difficulty at the time and has since died of heart failure.

Judge Rosa Dean said she was sceptical that caring for his mother was the real reason for the trip, telling Kissi the evidence pointed to him fleeing to evade detection. She said he had exploited his “inside knowledge” of the bank’s collection routine and left staff badly shaken, though she noted she was glad none of them faced disciplinary action over the fraud.

Detective Constable Stuart Ponder, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, said CCTV and phone evidence linked Kissi to the getaway vehicle, and that officers feared he might never return to the UK once he left the day after the heist. He said the case showed the force’s commitment to pursuing high-value thefts regardless of how long it takes.

Supreme Court dismisses all cases challenging Gertrude Torkornoo’s removal as Chief Justice https://www.adomonline.com/supreme-court-dismisses-all-cases-challenging-gertrude-torkornoos-removal-as-chief-justice/ Thu, 02 Jul 2026 13:02:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679307 The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed consolidated cases challenging the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, bringing finality to the domestic legal battles over her dismissal.

A seven-member panel presided over by Justice Amadu Tanko on Thursday, July 2, 2026, held that the suits lacked merit and consequently dismissed them.

The ruling effectively ends legal efforts to overturn her removal, which had been the subject of intense political and judicial debate since her suspension and subsequent dismissal in September 2025.

Four separate cases were filed in 2025 following her suspension after a prima facie case was established based on petitions seeking her removal.

The suits were filed by Tafo MP Vincent Assafuah, private citizen Theodore Atta Quartey, the former Chief Justice herself, and the Centre for Citizenship, Constitutional and Electoral Systems.

The Supreme Court later consolidated the actions into two cases for hearing.

Justice Torkornoo was removed from office on September 1, 2025, following the recommendation of a five-member committee of inquiry chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Pwamang.

The committee was set up under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution to investigate allegations of stated misbehaviour.

The committee found her culpable of several breaches, including alleged misuse of public funds through travel-related expenses and payments involving family members, as well as violations of constitutional procedures relating to judicial administration.

Her removal marked the first time in the Fourth Republic that a sitting Chief Justice had been dismissed through the constitutional process.

In a related development, the ECOWAS Court of Justice on June 24, 2026, also dismissed all claims filed by the former Chief Justice against the Republic of Ghana, ruling that no violation of her rights had been established and rejecting her claim for damages.

With the Supreme Court’s latest ruling, all domestic legal avenues challenging her removal have now been exhausted.

His lawyers, on May 19, 2026, filed a certiorari application seeking to quash a ruling by the Gbese District Court, which authorised his extradition in connection with ongoing criminal proceedings in the US.

The ruling, delivered on July 2, 2026, paves the way for Ghanaian authorities to hand over the suspect, who is wanted by the US government in connection with serious criminal charges.

Abu Trica, a Ghanaian national, has been at the centre of a high-profile extradition battle after the United States formally requested his surrender.

He is wanted in the US for alleged involvement in financial crimes, including wire fraud and money laundering.

Kum is facing charges linked to an alleged romance scam network accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than $8 million.

Speaking in an emotional interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the mother of several children described how the fire has reduced her to a state of helplessness and despair.

“I lost 15 shops in the Odawna Plastic Market fire. I have lost everything and cannot even afford to buy koko to drink,” she said.

Georgina revealed that since the fire outbreak on Monday, no government official has visited the affected traders to offer support.

“Since the incident happened on Monday, no government official has been here,” she lamented.

She recounted a moment of desperation when she considered begging on the streets.

“On Wednesday, I was tempted to disguise myself as a blind person to go to the street and beg for alms. It was one man who talked me out of it and gave me 100 cedis to buy food for myself and the family,” she said.

The trader, who is also struggling with health complications, expressed deep emotional and physical pain.

“I have lost money and items worth 500,000 cedis. The only money I took with me on Friday to the house was 500 cedis. Only for me to lose everything in the fire on Monday. I am now like a child, a poor person who has to now depend on people.

“I can’t even afford to buy koko to drink so I can take my BP medicine. I have been experiencing an excruciating pain in my heart, and it feels like an electrocution. I am in a lot of pains,” she cried.

She also spoke about the impact on her children.

“All my kids are home and cannot even go to school. Even when I call people to ask for help, they don’t take it seriously and think I am lying because they know me and the kind of work I do. I will plead with all Ghanaians to come to my rescue; I am lonely and helpless,” Georgina appealed.

The fire at the Odawna Plastic Market has left many traders devastated, with calls for government support growing louder as affected persons struggle to rebuild their lives.

Gov’t condemns killing of Ghanaian in South Africa, demands justice https://www.adomonline.com/govt-condemns-killing-of-ghanaian-in-south-africa-demands-justice/ Thu, 02 Jul 2026 06:43:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679093 The Government of Ghana has strongly condemned the killing of a Ghanaian national, Mr. Bashiru Isak, during anti-immigrant demonstrations in South Africa, describing the incident as a “senseless act of violence.”

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, July 1, the government said it received the reports with “profound shock and sadness” that the 40-year-old Ghanaian was fatally shot in Khayelitsha on Monday, June 30, during demonstrations linked to ongoing xenophobic attacks.

“The Government of Ghana condemns, in the strongest terms, this senseless act of violence and the rising tide of xenophobia targeting African nationals, including Ghanaians, in South Africa. The taking of any life is unacceptable, and those responsible must be brought to justice without delay,” the statement said.

According to the ministry, the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, acting on its instructions, has formally lodged Ghana’s protest with South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation and filed a complaint with the South African Police Service after confirming the identity of the deceased and informing his family.

The ministry disclosed that an autopsy has since been conducted on the body at the request of the Government of Ghana.

It said Ghana is demanding a full, transparent and expedited investigation into the incident, leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

The government also urged the South African authorities to strengthen security for Ghanaian nationals living in affected communities.

“The Ministry, through its High Commission in Pretoria, has formally registered Ghana’s protest with the South African authorities and has reiterated our expectation that South Africa, in line with its international obligations, will guarantee the safety, dignity and rights of all foreign nationals on its territory, including Ghanaians,” the statement added.

The ministry further recalled that Ghana has already submitted a petition to the African Union Commission over xenophobic attacks against African nationals in South Africa and expects the matter to be treated with urgency at the Commission’s next statutory meeting.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to repatriate Mr. Bashiru Isak’s body to Ghana for burial.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its condolences to the bereaved family and advised Ghanaians residing in South Africa who did not participate in the government’s repatriation exercise to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk areas and contact the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria through its emergency lines whenever they are in danger.

It reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to pursuing all diplomatic, consular and multilateral avenues to protect the lives and welfare of its citizens abroad and to prevent similar attacks in the future.

South Africa: One Ghanaian shot dead during mass xenophobic protests https://www.adomonline.com/south-africa-one-ghanaian-shot-dead-during-mass-xenophobic-protests/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 19:18:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679039 A Ghanaian tailor has been shot dead in his shop in Cape Town, South Africa, during violent protests targeting foreign nationals, the Ghana High Commission in South Africa has confirmed.

The victim, who is said to have lived and worked in South Africa for about 20 years, was reportedly inside his shop when he was shot on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as demonstrations linked to a nationwide anti-immigration campaign turned violent in parts of the country.

He is survived by three children, with the eldest reportedly 10 years old.

The Ghana High Commission says arrangements are currently underway to repatriate the body to Ghana to enable burial and other necessary family rites.

The incident forms part of a wider wave of unrest tied to growing anti-immigration sentiments and protests in South Africa, which have in some instances escalated into violence against foreign nationals and their businesses.

Authorities in South Africa have not yet released full details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or confirmed any arrests in connection with the incident.

The Ghanaian mission has assured that it is engaging relevant authorities to ensure full investigations into the killing and to support the bereaved family during the repatriation process.

Accra Floods: Alajo resident halts body recovery over payment dispute with NADMO https://www.adomonline.com/accra-floods-alajo-resident-halts-body-recovery-over-payment-dispute-with-nadmo/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 18:37:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2679029 A resident of Alajo identified as Atinka has made news after he demanded GH¢3,000 from National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officials before continuing to help remove a body trapped in a vehicle during Monday’s flooding in the Alajo drains.

Atinka, who had gone into the drain to assist with the recovery, halted the exercise midway and insisted on payment before completing the task.

Speaking to Adom News after the incident, he said he stopped because he realised the arrangement he initially had with NADMO wasn’t right.

“I asked for the money because this is not my job. It is the job of the police and others, but when they came, we saw they couldn’t do the work, so I agreed to help them,” he said.

He also appealed to the government to help residents living in makeshift structures along the Alajo drain relocate, to prevent similar tragedies in future.

The incident is one of several to emerge from Monday’s floods, among the worst to hit Accra in recent years.

Heavy rain that began Sunday night into Monday, June 29, overwhelmed drainage systems across the capital, submerging roads, homes and vehicles in Alajo, Circle, Kaneshie, Odawna, Adabraka, Achimota, Tema Newtown and other communities.

The Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed at least 12 deaths, most from electrocution after floodwaters made contact with electrical installations, with close to 500 people rescued.

The Interior Minister told Parliament that more than 38,800 people were affected and seven remained missing as of the latest update, with search operations ongoing.

GRIDCo and ECG cut power to some substations as a precaution against further electrocutions, and authorities have repeatedly urged residents to avoid flooded roads and waterways.

3 arrested in Bolgatanga for trafficking girls into prostitution https://www.adomonline.com/3-arrested-in-bolgatanga-for-trafficking-girls-into-prostitution/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 16:27:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678975 The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in Bolgatanga over their alleged involvement in a human trafficking operation that reportedly forced young women into prostitution at Gbane in the Talensi District.

The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo and Faith Levy, are accused of luring victims from Nigeria under the guise of opportunities in the Ghanaian movie industry.

According to preliminary investigations, one of the victims was allegedly recruited in Nigeria by Peace Agbede, who promised to help her pursue a career in the film industry due to her appearance. Upon arriving in Ghana, however, the victim was reportedly taken to Gbane-Tongo and forced into prostitution instead.

Investigators say the victim was compelled to pay GH¢400 daily to her alleged handler.

The situation reportedly worsened when the victim gave birth on 26 June 2026. Police say the suspects later attempted to persuade her to sell the newborn baby for GH¢20,000 to an interested buyer.

A search conducted in the room of one of the suspects led to the discovery of several items, including sales record books bearing multiple names and 265 unused condoms.

Police also rescued four young women aged between 18 and 20 years during the operation.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be put before court as investigations continue.

Fear grips Nante-Zongo residents as faulty fuel tanker is abandoned for 4 days https://www.adomonline.com/fear-grips-nante-zongo-residents-as-faulty-fuel-tanker-is-abandoned-for-4-days/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 13:05:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678777 Residents of Nante-Zongo in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region are living in fear after a fuel tanker loaded with petrol broke down along the highway and has remained unattended for four days.

The vehicle has been stuck at Zongo since last Sunday, raising serious safety concerns among the community, especially as there is currently no fire appliance in the district and no police presence to secure the area.

Many residents worry that any spark or accident could trigger a major explosion, given the highly flammable nature of the cargo.

Speaking to Adom News, some worried residents expressed their fears about the potential danger the situation poses to their lives and properties.

The Assembly Member for Nante-Zongo, Patrick Ayamboya, also shared his concerns and revealed the steps he has taken with security agencies to address the issue.

The prolonged presence of the broken tanker has left many in the community anxious, with calls for immediate intervention by the relevant authorities to tow the vehicle and secure the area before a disaster occurs.

Accra floods not a disaster; God has exposed our irresponsibility – Nukpenu (Video) https://www.adomonline.com/accra-floods-not-a-disaster-god-has-exposed-our-irresponsibility-nukpenu-video/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 12:19:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678756 The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has described the recent flooding in Accra as “not a catastrophe or a disaster,” but rather God exposing the irresponsibility and indiscipline of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Nupkenu said the heavy downpour has revealed long-standing problems of poor planning, encroachment on waterways and disregard for environmental regulations.

“Accra is not flooded; it is messy. God has just exposed us for our irresponsibility. This is not a catastrophe or a disaster, as people are saying. God is just telling us that we are not disciplined, forthright and trustworthy,” he stated.

He added that the current situation is only a warning of worse conditions to come if citizens fail to change their behaviour.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg God has shown us,” he said.

The NDC organiser criticised the indiscriminate construction on waterways and wetlands, as well as the allocation of such lands to foreign entities.

“God created waterways when he created the world. Why are we encroaching on them? The Accra plan is there, the streams, lakes and wetlands are all mapped out.

“But now we have taken over these places, we have blocked the waterways and are building on them. We are even giving wetlands to Chinese and Lebanese to build warehouses,” he lamented.

He also pointed to the proliferation of kiosks in unauthorised places as part of the problem.

“People mount kiosks in certain places, and we watch on. Look at the number of kiosks that were washed away. People could be in and lose their lives,” he noted.

Mr. Nukpenu’s comments come as Accra continues to deal with the aftermath of Monday’s heavy rains, which caused significant flooding in many parts of the capital, submerging homes, shops, and major roads.

Bortianor flood victims drowning in clean-up costs https://www.adomonline.com/bortianor-flood-victims-drowning-in-clean-up-costs/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 06:51:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678593 For residents of Bortianor, S.C.C., and Block Factory in Ngleshie Amanfro in the  Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, last Monday’s torrential rains brought more woes even after the floods receded.

Their predicament was only the beginning of a second, more costly disaster, which is the clean-up of their homes.

A visit to 3 communities on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, revealed an aftermath rarely captured in flood headlines: homes filled with thick silt, plastic waste, and debris, and families now scrambling to raise thousands of cedis just to make their houses habitable again.

“We’ve lost thousands; now we’re paying to clean,” one resident lamented.

Many residents say they lost household appliances, furniture, and other valuables, running into millions of cedis in the floods.

But with the water still pooled in compounds some days later, the financial toll has only grown.

Mr. Francis Nortey, a landlord with an expanded compound, said his property has been submerged three times this year alone.

Each time, he has had to pay for emergency clean-up.

“This year alone, aftermath flood cleanings have cost me more than GHC5,000.00,” he told Myjoyonline.

According to him, the process is layered and expensive: first, a water pump mechanic must drain the compound. Then labourers are hired to clear silt and plastic waste. Only after that can cleaning contractors begin the main wash-down.

Mr. Nortey blames the recurring floods on the drainage system along the Mallam Junction–Kasoa road, which he says channels large volumes of water directly into residential areas.

He is now appealing to authorities for urgent, temporary interventions to prevent a repeat

For many households, the single biggest expense is pumping out water.

Mr. K. Addy, a landlord who had engaged a water pump mechanic working in his house, described the post-flood job as “tedious and very expensive these days.

Another resident,  Mr. Asare Oppong Bediako, said it takes his family about a week to clear water from their home after every flood.

“Pumping alone costs me GHC3,500,” he said.

The situation is very disturbing, as not everyone can afford it.

Veronica Boahene said she currently has no money to hire a pump mechanic, leaving her home still waterlogged days after the rains.

A Flood Economy: Pump Mechanics in high demand

Ironically, the disaster has created a boom for water pump operators.

Mr. Kofi Mensah Adams said he visited several shops looking for an available mechanic, but all had been booked and dispatched to homes across the communities.

Abraham Ntebani, one of the mechanics on the ground, said he charges GHC600.00 per day, and most houses need several days of continuous pumping.

“Almost every house has a pump going on there right now,” he noted.

Flood, lose property, pay to pump, pay to clear silt, and wait for the next rains.

While pump mechanics are busy, many families are left counting losses they cannot recover.

The community’s appeal is clear — without proper drainage and flood mitigation along the Kasoa corridor, Bortianor, S.C.C., and Block Factory will remain “underwater” both literally and financially.

Nigerian national arrested in Ghana in FBI and INTERPOL-linked cybercrime investigation https://www.adomonline.com/nigerian-national-arrested-in-ghana-in-fbi-and-interpol-linked-cybercrime-investigation/ Tue, 30 Jun 2026 19:50:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678528 A Nigerian national has been arrested, arraigned, and remanded in custody following a major cybercrime investigation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the Ghana Police Service, INTERPOL, and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The suspect, Aderinsola Oluwanifemi Adeleye, who operates a cement block manufacturing business and resides at Oyarifa in Accra, had come under the intelligence radar of both INTERPOL and the FBI over suspected transnational cyber-enabled financial crimes linked to compromised United States Citi Bank debit cards.

How the scheme worked

According to a brief from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the case began on June 25, 2026, when the manager of the Haatso Shell Filling Station reported to police that Shell Headquarters had received a complaint from Ecobank Ghana concerning suspicious Point of Sale (POS) transactions carried out using two Citi Bank debit cards issued in the United States.

Investigators traced the unauthorised transactions to POS terminals at the Haatso Shell Filling Station and Osu Total Filling Station. Two fuel pump attendants were arrested and, during interrogation, revealed that Adeleye and an accomplice had repeatedly visited the stations, using Citi Bank debit cards through mobile devices to process fraudulent transactions.

According to investigators, the scheme worked by processing fictitious fuel purchases through POS terminals. Once the transactions were authorised, Adeleye received cash equivalent to the purported fuel purchase rather than actual fuel — effectively converting stolen card funds into cash.

Later that same evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Adeleye allegedly returned to the Haatso Shell Filling Station to conduct another transaction. He was immediately recognised by the two pump attendants and arrested by police on the spot.

What was recovered

A search at the time of arrest led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition and a Citi Bank VISA debit card. A subsequent search of Adeleye’s office at AA Global Homes Construction Limited in Katamanso uncovered 15 rounds of live 9mm ammunition and one empty shell casing concealed in a drawer.

On June 27, 2026, police executed a search warrant at his residence in Oyarifa, recovering two personal mobile phones believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged offences. The devices have been retained for forensic examination.

His own account

In a cautioned statement, Adeleye admitted using the recovered Citi Bank card at both filling stations, claiming that an individual identified as Gail Oneara, said to reside in the United States, had sent him the card with an available balance of approximately US$10,000 for personal use. He said he had withdrawn or spent approximately US$8,000 from the card before his arrest.

Assets allegedly acquired with crime proceeds

Investigators allege that Adeleye invested the proceeds of the scheme in acquiring significant assets, including a four-bedroom storey building, a cement block manufacturing factory at Katamanso near Amrahia, and a Nissan ZNA pick-up vehicle — all suspected to have been purchased with proceeds of crime.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network, trace additional assets, and establish the full extent of the fraudulent transactions. Forensic examination of the recovered electronic devices is expected to shed further light on the syndicate’s activities and possible international connections.

The CSA said the case highlights the growing sophistication of cyber-enabled financial crimes and the critical importance of intelligence-driven, inter-agency, and international cooperation in tackling transnational cybercrime.

Poultry farmer appeals for help after floods wipe out nearly entire flock https://www.adomonline.com/poultry-farmer-appeals-for-help-after-floods-wipe-out-nearly-entire-flock/ Tue, 30 Jun 2026 14:48:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678391 A poultry farmer at Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region has appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other government agencies for assistance after devastating floods wiped out nearly his entire flock following Monday’s heavy rains.

The farmer said torrential rainfall caused severe flooding on his farm, killing almost all of his chickens and leaving only one bird alive.

According to him, the disaster has dealt a significant financial blow to his poultry business, destroying years of investment and threatening his livelihood.

Speaking after the incident in a social media video, the distraught farmer called on NADMO and other relevant state institutions to come to his aid.

“I have lost almost all my birds. Only one survived the flooding. I am appealing to the government and NADMO to support me so I can recover from this disaster,” he said.

The incident occurred as heavy rains battered parts of Greater Accra on Monday, triggering widespread flooding that claimed lives, displaced residents and destroyed homes, businesses and other properties.

The designer revealed that machinery, fabrics, and customer orders worth thousands of cedis were completely destroyed by the floodwaters.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Odoom described the situation as devastating, saying he does not know how he will recover from the setback.

“First of all, it started from my house. Everything is gone. I couldn’t even take anything. This outfit is not even mine; I had to borrow it from someone else to wear.

“I came to the workshop, and everything is sitting in water and mud — machines, fabrics, everything is gone. The whole place is messed up, and we don’t even know where to start,” he said.

Mr. Odoom expressed deep frustration over the loss of equipment he had only recently acquired.

“I have lost everything. These were machines I bought just about five to six months ago. When there is a problem, technicians in Ghana cannot even work on them, so you need to call China for guidance on what to do or how to get the parts,” he lamented.

He also shared the emotional and practical burden the disaster has placed on him and his team.

“We are 14 in number. So together with my workers, we have to look for where to go. I don’t even know where we are starting from because people had things with us that needed to be delivered. So I have issued a press release, pleading with my clients to be patient with us.”

Despite the overwhelming loss, Mr. Odoom expressed gratitude for the support he has received.

“I want to say a big thank you to my church, Makers House Chapel. They have called to solidarise with me, as well as my friends and co-fashion designers. A lot of people have reached out, and I can’t even remember all the names because my mind is not stable.”

He ended on a note of faith, saying, “I am just praying for a miracle because it is only God who can restore me.”

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the funds were approved in direct response to the heavy rainfall that inundated several communities, leaving many residents and properties affected.

Of the total amount, GH¢150 million will be used for immediate emergency relief for flood victims, while the remaining GH¢150 million will support long-term flood mitigation measures to help reduce the recurrence of such disasters.

President Mahama has also ordered the deployment of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to work closely with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other agencies in ongoing rescue and relief operations.

Earlier in the day, the President conducted an aerial assessment of the flood-hit areas to personally evaluate the extent of the damage before announcing the relief package.

The government’s swift response comes as many residents continue to grapple with the impact of the floods, with several low-lying communities still submerged.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on June 29, 2026, when the 90 per cent complete structure gave way and crashed to the ground.

In an interview with Adom News’ Serwaa Prempeh, the landlady said she initially heard a sound she thought was a falling avocado.

“When I asked my children to pick it up, they discovered it was actually a block that had fallen from one of the building’s pillars,” she narrated.

Realising the danger, the family quickly evacuated the building moments before it completely collapsed.

Although no casualties were recorded, some property remains buried under the rubble.

The landlady said she suspects the heavy rainfall caused the land to become waterlogged, which may have contributed to the collapse.

Residents in the area are currently awaiting the arrival of officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (National Disaster Management Organisation) (NADMO) to assess the situation.

The collapse adds to growing concerns over building safety and the impact of heavy rains on structures in low-lying and flood-prone areas of Accra.

GMet warns of more rain, thunderstorms across Southern Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/gmet-warns-of-more-rain-thunderstorms-across-southern-ghana/ Tue, 30 Jun 2026 08:51:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678165 The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast more rain and thunderstorms across parts of southern Ghana on Tuesday, warning residents to prepare for possible localized flooding and other storm-related hazards.

According to a weather update issued at 0800 UTC, a slow-moving rainstorm currently located along the coast of Benin is expected to drift westwards, generating increased cloud cover over southern Ghana.

GMet said the system is likely to produce slight to moderate thunderstorms accompanied by rain over parts of the Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern and Central regions from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Later in the day, the rain-bearing clouds are expected to extend to the Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, Western North and Western regions, with thunderstorms and rain forecast between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The agency has urged the public to remain vigilant, warning of the possibility of fallen trees, loose electrical cables, damaged utility poles and other hazards associated with the expected storms.

It also cautioned that slight to moderate winds may accompany the thunderstorms, while visibility could reduce to between 6,000 and 10,000 metres.

Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously, reduce speed and use headlights where necessary. Pedestrians have also been urged to avoid walking through flooded areas, as localized flash flooding remains possible in low-lying and flood-prone communities.

The latest forecast comes as parts of the country continue to recover from recent heavy rains that triggered widespread flooding, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.

We are really very sorry – Muntaka apologises as flooding claims 9 lives https://www.adomonline.com/we-are-really-very-sorry-muntaka-apologises-as-flooding-claims-9-lives/ Tue, 30 Jun 2026 06:47:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678100 Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has apologised on behalf of government to Ghanaians following the devastating floods that claimed nine lives and destroyed homes and property after Monday’s torrential rains.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, the Asawase MP acknowledged the pain caused by the disaster and admitted that government could have done more, but insisted officials had been working through the night as the crisis unfolded.

“Yes, we are really very sorry for the loss of life. We are sorry that this thing has really devastated Accra,” he said.

He defended the government’s response, arguing that while the country had advance warnings that June and July would bring heavy rains, the specific alert for Monday’s downpour only came late on Sunday night.

“But if you ask the Meteo person, he did not say that it’s going to rain today. Ask him, when did they give us the actual alert that this will happen? Yesterday (Sunday, June 28), at 11 pm when the majority of Ghanaians were asleep,” he said.

Muntaka disclosed that one of the immediate steps taken was to coordinate with the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation to get emergency messages sent to mobile phone users.

“I called him. I said that look, you need to help us, can you get the telcos to send messages to people? He was very swift. I believe that is the thing that we need to be doing,” he said, thanking Sam George for the prompt response.

The Interior Minister also revealed that discussions had begun at the Presidency to improve coordination among ministries ahead of future emergencies.

“I’ve spoken to the Secretary to the President. We’ve agreed that as the Secretary to the President, he will be able to pull all of us as ministers together to come and sit down and make sure that we prepare ourselves.”

He stressed, however, that Ghana’s limited resources remained a major challenge in responding to disasters of such magnitude.

“This country is not a rich country, where we have shelters so we can collect people and go and put them there. This country is not that rich. Let’s not be running away from actual responsibility and facing the reality.”

While conceding that more could be done, Muntaka rejected suggestions that government officials had been complacent.

“So, yes, I agree, we could do more, but let’s not make it look like all politicians are people who are not thinking about the country. They are just thinking about themselves. They put them in positions; they are not proactive.”

He said he remained awake throughout the night monitoring developments and was in constant contact with President John Mahama.

“I can bet you, we didn’t sleep; I didn’t sleep, and I know the time that I had to speak to the President early in the morning. I woke him up, and he’s been up and asking questions almost throughout, and he went around to see so.”

Muntaka maintained that the scale of Monday’s rainfall meant flooding was almost unavoidable.

“The only way this rain today could have been avoided from going into people’s homes was to lump the whole of Accra as a drain, because you can see it from the aerial view,” he said.

Alajo flood: Death toll rises to three https://www.adomonline.com/alajo-flood-death-toll-rises-to-three/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 16:55:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677986 The death toll from the devastating floods that struck Alajo in Accra following Monday’s torrential rains has risen to three, with the victims reportedly dying from electrocution after floodwaters inundated their homes.

Alajo is one of the communities worst affected by the heavy rains that began on Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, inundating large parts of Accra.

The flooding has submerged major roads, homes and businesses, severely disrupting the Monday morning rush hour.

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have temporarily shut down power supply from the Mallam and Achimota primary substations as a precautionary measure following flooding at those facilities.

According to reports from the scene, the first two victims were inside their rooms when floodwaters rose rapidly and came into contact with electrical installations, resulting in fatal electrocution.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), assisted by residents, recovered the bodies from the flooded area.

The deceased have been transported to the Maamobi Polyclinic.

A short while later, another death was confirmed, bringing the total number of flood-related fatalities in Alajo to three.

Some reports have suggested a possible fourth casualty, though this has not been independently confirmed.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has forecast that rain-bearing clouds will persist and spread westward into the evening, with Northern Ghana also expected to experience thunderstorms from late afternoon.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has directed all MMDCEs to move into their communities with emergency response teams to intensify rescue operations and provide relief to affected residents.

The Ministry of the Interior has issued a public safety advisory urging residents to remain where they are, avoid flooded roads, and report emergencies. NADMO has activated emergency response teams across affected areas.

The public is urged to avoid wading or driving through floodwaters, stay away from submerged electrical installations, and promptly report fallen or exposed power lines to ECG or GRIDCo.

Residents in need of emergency assistance can contact NADMO on 0302 772395 / 0299 344030 or via WhatsApp on 055 160 9393.

The incident has become one of several dramatic scenes emerging from the capital following hours of heavy rainfall that began late Sunday night and continued into Monday, June 29, 2026.

The prolonged downpour triggered widespread flooding across several parts of Accra, submerging major roads, homes and shops, while disrupting the morning rush hour.

Many commuters were left stranded as roads became impassable. Several vehicles were seen struggling through flooded streets, while motorists abandoned others after becoming trapped in the rising waters.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) earlier issued a flood alert for parts of Accra, Tema and Kasoa, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

The Ministry of the Interior has also advised residents to remain indoors where possible and avoid travelling through flooded areas. Emergency response teams have since been deployed by NADMO to assist affected communities and respond to distress calls.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to prioritise their safety as heavy rains are expected to persist in some parts of the country.

Accra floods: One electrocuted as heavy rains cause widespread damage https://www.adomonline.com/accra-floods-one-electrocuted-as-heavy-rains-cause-widespread-damage/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 13:07:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677867 Torrential rains that have battered the Greater Accra Region for several hours have triggered widespread flooding across the capital, leaving thousands of residents stranded in submerged communities and claiming one life at Alajo.

The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Michelle Ofori Tachie, was reportedly electrocuted during the floods in Alajo, one of the worst-affected areas in the metropolis.

A JoyNews report by Fatawu Bayaga indicated that officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) confirmed the fatality, while emergency responders continue to assess the extent of damage caused by the flooding.

The incident has heightened concerns over the perennial flooding that affects low-lying communities in Accra during periods of prolonged or intense rainfall.

Floodwaters have inundated homes, roads and business premises in Alajo and several other parts of the Greater Accra Region, forcing residents to abandon their homes in search of safer locations.

Motorists were also stranded on major roads as floodwaters rendered several routes impassable, worsening traffic congestion across the capital.

Residents say water levels rose rapidly after hours of continuous rainfall, trapping vulnerable people, including children and the elderly, inside their homes.

GRIDCo, ECG temporarily shut down Mallam and Achimota substations over flood risk  https://www.adomonline.com/gridco-ecg-temporarily-shut-down-mallam-and-achimota-substations-over-flood-risk/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 10:58:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677758 The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced the temporary shutdown of the Mallam and Achimota primary substations following severe flooding caused by heavy rains in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

In a joint statement, the two power utilities said the precautionary measure was taken in the interest of public safety after floodwaters affected critical electricity infrastructure at the substations.

They explained that the flooding posed significant risks to electrical equipment and operational personnel, making it necessary to temporarily suspend power supply until conditions are safe for restoration.

GRIDCo and ECG said they are closely monitoring the situation and conducting detailed assessments of the impact of the flooding on the transmission and distribution network.

They cautioned that as heavy rains and flooding persist, power supply may also be temporarily interrupted in other affected areas where safety risks are identified.

The utilities urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution and promptly report any fallen electricity poles, exposed or fallen power lines, flooded electrical installations, or other electricity-related hazards to the nearest ECG office or through customer service channels.

They said timely reporting would support rapid response efforts and help protect lives and property.

GRIDCo and ECG apologised to customers for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for their patience and understanding.

They assured the public that efforts were underway to restore electricity supply as soon as weather conditions improve and it is safe to resume operations.

Rescue teams respond as floods hinder access to Odawna fire scene [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/rescue-teams-respond-as-floods-hinder-access-to-odawna-fire-scene-video/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 10:40:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677751 Emergency responders are battling both fire and flooding after a blaze broke out at a rubber factory at Odawna in Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), supported by rescue teams, have been deployed to the scene to contain the fire and assist individuals believed to be trapped inside the facility.

However, flooding in the area has significantly hampered access to the factory, with submerged roads slowing the movement of fire tenders and other emergency vehicles.

Eyewitnesses say parts of the access roads to the factory were inundated following hours of heavy rainfall, forcing firefighters to navigate difficult conditions before reaching the scene.

Rescue operations are currently underway as emergency teams work to evacuate trapped individuals while firefighters battle the raging blaze.

The incident comes amid widespread flooding across parts of Accra, including Kwame Nkrumah Circle and surrounding communities, where overflowing drains and rising water levels have disrupted traffic and stranded commuters.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there have been no official reports on casualties or the extent of damage to the facility.

Three major roads linking Kasoa cut off after Okrudu River overflows [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/three-major-roads-linking-kasoa-cut-off-after-okrudu-river-overflows-photos/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 10:21:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677736 Heavy rains that began late on Sunday, June 28, and continued into the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026, have triggered widespread flooding in Kasoa and surrounding areas in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, leaving major roads submerged and disrupting traffic flow.

Three major roads linking Kasoa Township have been cut off after the Okrudu River overflowed its banks, affecting movement in and out of the area.

Reports indicate that 9 out of 13 electoral areas have been affected by flooding, causing significant disruption and leaving thousands of homes inundated.

Motorists and commuters have been stranded, with some vehicles unable to navigate flooded sections of the road network. In some areas, youth were reportedly charging between GH₵10 and GH₵50 to help commuters cross waterlogged stretches.

Some residents who spoke to Adom News called for urgent intervention to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

Meanwhile, residents are calling on the Kasoa Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Banini, and the MP for the area, Naa Koryoo Okunor, to urgently dredge the Okrudu River and improve drainage systems to address the recurring flooding situation.

The downpour, which lasted several hours, severely affected Monday morning movement, leaving residents struggling to commute to work and school amid waterlogged streets and heavy traffic congestion.

Work from home – Interior Minister advises workers over flooding in Accra [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/work-from-home-interior-minister-advises-workers-over-flooding-in-accra/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 09:16:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677706 The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged residents of Accra to work from home on Monday following severe overnight rainfall that has triggered widespread flooding and brought parts of the capital to a standstill.

He said, based on information from the Meteorological Department, more heavy rains were expected, particularly as weather systems from Togo approach, warning that conditions could worsen.

“Based on what the Meteorological Department is telling us, we expect it to be heavier if the prediction of more rains from Togo gets here, so please stay home, work from home,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

The Minister advised workers already at their workplaces to remain there until conditions improve, while those yet to leave home should stay indoors and work remotely where possible.

He further called on employers across the country to activate flexible work arrangements, stressing the need to maintain operations through remote systems during the disruption.

“Private and public meetings that are not too urgent, we can have them on Zoom, and those that are very urgent, we can postpone them,” he added.

The appeal comes as emergency services continue to battle flooded roads and severe traffic gridlock across the capital, with authorities working to minimise risk and safeguard lives.

The Minister also expressed appreciation to emergency responders, including NADMO, the Ghana Navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Police Service, for their ongoing efforts.

He urged improved coordination among agencies, encouraging swift information sharing to enhance response efforts.

“I want to thank NADMO, the Navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police and all the emergency teams for the work they have already started doing… let us work together and operate as one unit,” he said.

Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey of the Public Relations Department of the GNFS confirmed the incident in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

ADO1 Nartey confirmed that four fire tenders have been deployed to the scene to contain the blaze, which is spreading rapidly.

Although the cause of the fire is not immediately known, he assured that personnel are on the ground working to bring the inferno under control.

He also revealed that another fire outbreak at a house at Sakaman Blue Lagoon had been successfully contained.

He noted that the heavy downpour has significantly hampered firefighting efforts, as personnel from Circle, who were responding to the Sakaman fire, were stranded at Kaneshie.

“When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but when the Circle team moved, they were stranded at Kaneshie,” he said.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, he assured Ghanaians that the Fire Service remains committed to its duties.

In a related development, he added that firefighters have been deployed to various parts of Accra, particularly flood-prone areas, to carry out rescue operations.

Large sections of the road network around the busy transport hub were inundated following hours of rainfall, forcing several commercial and private vehicles to either halt their journeys or divert to alternative routes.

Passengers travelling from Kwame Nkrumah Circle towards Korle Bu, Kaneshie, Adabraka and other parts of the capital were among the worst affected, with many unable to access public transport as floodwaters engulfed portions of the road and nearby bus terminals.

Several commuters were seen wading through knee-deep water in an attempt to continue their journeys, while others remained stranded for hours, hoping the floodwaters would recede.

Some transport operators also suspended services temporarily, citing safety concerns and the inability of vehicles to navigate the flooded roads.

The flooding resulted in long queues at various bus stops, with frustrated commuters expressing concern over the recurring nature of flooding at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange whenever the capital experiences heavy rainfall.

Motorists also faced severe traffic congestion on adjoining roads as vehicles moved at a snail’s pace. Some drivers made U-turns to avoid the flooded sections, further worsening traffic on alternative routes across the city.

The situation once again highlights the persistent flooding challenges at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange despite previous drainage improvement works undertaken over the years.

Residents and commuters have repeatedly called for long-term solutions to prevent the recurring disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.

Hundreds trapped as floods submerge parts of Afienya (Photos) https://www.adomonline.com/hundreds-trapped-as-floods-submerge-parts-of-afienya-photos/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 08:06:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677628 Hundreds of residents in Afienya in the Greater Accra region are reportedly trapped in their homes following severe flooding caused by heavy overnight rains on Sunday.

JoyNews’ Carlos Calony, reporting from the area on Monday morning, described the situation as dire, with large sections of the community inundated by floodwaters.

The immediate past Assembly Member for the Afienya Electoral Area, Habib Awudu Mohammed, told JoyNews that “it is true the whole area is flooded. Afienya itself, the town, the TOR Estate, Jerusalem, the Sanford Clinic, Ablekuma and other surrounding areas. The situation here is not easy; people are trapped in their rooms, they cannot move, they cannot do anything.”

He added that personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana National Fire Service had begun moving into the community to rescue affected residents.

“Luckily, we got in touch with the NADMO rescue team, some of them are here, the Fire Service are here in their numbers and we are doing our best to see how best we can rescue the people,” he noted.

According to him, the last time Afienya experienced flooding of such magnitude was 16 years ago.

The flooding has also resulted in heavy traffic congestion along the main Afienya–Tema road, disrupting the movement of commuters and motorists.

Heavy downpour leaves parts of Accra flooded (Video) https://www.adomonline.com/heavy-downpour-leaves-parts-of-accra-flooded-2/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 07:21:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677615 Torrential rains that started late Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, June 29, 2026, have triggered flooding across several parts of Accra, leaving major roads submerged and throwing the morning rush hour into chaos.

Floodwaters inundated low-lying areas and key arterial roads, forcing vehicles to crawl through submerged sections while some motorists abandoned their routes altogether.

Commuters struggled to get to work and school as heavy traffic built up on waterlogged streets.

Affected areas included parts of the N1 Highway, Apenkwa towards Tesano, the Accra–Kasoa stretch, Weija, Mallam, Achimota, Spintex, Sakaman, Atomic in Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction, portions of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and several surrounding communities.

Some people in the affected areas have taken to social media to share visuals of the situation.

Motorists have been advised to avoid driving through flooded roads, while residents in vulnerable areas are urged to stay alert and move to safer locations if necessary.

Accra’s recurring flooding during heavy downpours has once again highlighted long-standing challenges, including poor drainage systems, indiscriminate waste disposal, and unplanned urban development.

CONFIRMED: Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu arrived at Nsawam Prison on Wednesday, June 24 https://www.adomonline.com/confirmed-sedina-tamakloe-attionu-arrived-at-nsawam-prison-on-wednesday-june-24/ Sat, 27 Jun 2026 12:42:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677337 The incarcerated former chief executive of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, started her prison sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, sources with intimate knowledge of the facts have told pacgh.org.

Yesterday [Friday, June 27], an exclusive story of Sedina’s journey to jail since her arrival from the United States, including her time at the Police Hospital in Accra was published

At the time of filing the report, we could not independently confirm when she was actually checked into the prison.

We can now report that she was sent to Nsawam Prison on June 24. This information is consistent with the NPP minority in parliament’s claim that Sedina was not in jail until that date.

The sources that told us about her time at the police hospital had suggested that she spent only a few days in the hospital. They did not give a specific number of days or the date she was taken to prison.

One source said she was in the Police Hospital for about “four to five days,” fewer than the two weeks between her arrival in Ghana and her incarceration.

According to them, she was first handed over to the BNI upon her arrival at the Accra International Airport. The BNI later handed her over to the Ghana Prisons Service.

Sedina reportedly arrived in Ghana with a medical condition, which the U.S. authorities communicated to their Ghanaian counterparts before handing her over.

The sources said she was taken to the police hospital, where she was admitted and treated for days.

The Police Hospital later certified her fit to begin her sentence. She was then given medication and taken to Nsawam to begin her 10-year sentence.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s whereabouts became a matter of public controversy. Many openly questioned whether she was actually in prison, and pressure had mounted on the government to account for her.

Our sources reveal that she is in the female section of Nsawam Medium Security Prison. External access to her is tightly controlled, with only a handful of close family members permitted to visit.

We can now confirm that she was logged into that facility only last Wednesday.

Background

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu arrived in Ghana on June 9, 2026, following her extradition from the United States to serve a 10-year prison sentence.

She was tried and jailed in absentia after she failed to return to Ghana from the United States. She had obtained permission from the High Court during her trial in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment while her trial was ongoing.

An Accra High Court convicted her in 2024 after finding her guilty of multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.

The conviction stemmed from a prolonged legal battle involving allegations of misappropriation and the diversion of state resources during her administration of the government-funded microfinance institution.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal is set to deliver a ruling on an appeal filed by her legal team on the propriety of her trial in absentia and sentencing on July 30, 2026.

Bolgatanga Technical University VC’s appointment terminated; two others demoted https://www.adomonline.com/bolgatanga-technical-university-vcs-appointment-terminated-two-others-demoted/ Sat, 27 Jun 2026 08:21:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677286 Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa’s appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) has been terminated by the Governing Council, Graphic Online has reported.

This decision by the Council took effect on June 11, 2026, but Prof. Alnaa has initiated a court action challenging the decision of the council.

Also affected by the Governing Council’s latest decision, which is in relation to procurement issues, are two key directors of the university who have been demoted in rank and suspended for three months each.

They are Samuel Aduko, Director of Procurement, and Tom Mboya Asigri, the Director of Works and Physical Development.

A fourth person, Solomon Awariya, Acting Director of Finance of BTU, has been issued a warning letter.

The move has created an uneasy calm on campus, considering the issues started in December 2025 when Prof Samuel Erasmus Alnaa was first asked to proceed on a one-year leave, which was later turned into suspension to pave the way for a Special Investigation Committee to look into the said procurement issues.

In December 2025, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) intervened and stayed action on decisions of the Governing Council of the Bolgatanga Technical University that sought to direct the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, to proceed on a one-year leave from December 19, 2025, to December 18, 2026.

The Council in a circular at the time, said the one-year leave directive was “in line with standard governance practice in tertiary institutions and guided by the need to create a calm atmosphere for reflection, reconciliation, and institutional healing.

But responding, GTEC in December 2025 also indicated that directing the Vice Chancellor to proceed on a one-year leave based on some petitions received was “unprecedented and potentially problematic, as that can create unforeseen negative consequences.

“Rift between the two”

Sources within the university community have given hints to Graphic Online, suggesting that the actions, spearheaded by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Bishop Akolgo Amigya-Bia, date back to 2024 following a perceived “rift” between Prof Alnaa and Dr Amigya-Bia.

Graphic Online understands that the issues have since been escalated to the Office of the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister of Education for an intervention and amicable resolution, which is being handled at that level. Aside that, Prof Alnaa’s move towards the court is also pending.

Due to those interventions, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has written to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), asking for a stay of execution on the termination of the appointment and reduction in rank of the two others in relation to payroll issues of the affected persons until the matter is fully resolved.

BTU suspended from Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana activities

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G), after several unsuccessful attempts to engage the Governing Council of BTU for an amicable solution of the matter, have since Friday, June 26, 2026 suspended BTU from all VCTU-G activities until what they say was a fully resolved matter, with the objective of restoring peace and progress at the university while safeguarding the integrity and cohesion of the technical university system in Ghana.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the BTU Governing Council, dated June 26, 2026, a copy of which has been seen by Graphic Online and signed by Prof Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah as Chairman, the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G), said it reviewed the recent developments at Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) at its meeting held on June 15, 2026.

It said it looked particularly at the processes leading to the suspension, investigation, and eventual termination of the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of BTU, Prof. Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, as well as the subsequent demotion of two other key officers and the issuance of a warning letter to another officer of the University by the BTU Governing Council.

“However, having examined the circumstances surrounding the BTU impasse, VCTU-G is constrained to express its grave disquiet regarding the ongoing crisis at the University. In the course of these developments, the VCTU-G has encountered significant constraints in its attempts to bring together the feuding parties for an amicable resolution, including unsuccessful efforts to secure an audience with the leadership of the Governing Council for deliberations. These difficulties have limited the Association’s ability to offer its good offices in the spirit of collegial engagement expected within the tertiary education governance space,” the letter said.

The VCTU-G is equally concerned about the BTU Council’s blatant disregard of several directives issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the regulator of tertiary education institutions in the country, aimed at resolving the stalemate at the University, it added.

It said under the prevailing circumstances at the BTU, the VCTU-G has noted that the measures adopted in this matter represent an unprecedented exercise of Council authority in a manner that threatens established principles of university governance.

It said the action of the BTU Council is in sharp contrast with the recent directive by His Excellency the President of the Republic directing Boards and Board Chairpersons to confine themselves strictly to policy direction and oversight responsibilities, rather than becoming directly involved in the day-to-day management of public institutions.

It said in light of the foregoing concerns, the VCTU-G hereby suspends Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) from all VCTU-G activities until the matter is fully resolved, with the objective of restoring peace and progress at the University while safeguarding the integrity and cohesion of the technical university system in Ghana.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. It is the expectation of the VCTU-G that this period will provide an opportunity for reflection, engagement, and the restoration of confidence in the governance processes at the BTU. The VCTU-G remains committed to constructive engagement in the interest of preserving the integrity, dignity, and autonomy of the technical university landscape in Ghana.
Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,” it concluded.

BTU’s council’s reason for termination

As Vice-Chancellor, Prof Samuel Erasmus Alnaa was the centre of affairs at the University, and among his many functions, was the academic and administrative head and the chief disciplinary officer.

However, information gathered by Graphic Online indicates that the Governing Council decided to terminate his appointment on the grounds of “good cause.”

And that “good cause” is in relation to alleged breaches of the Public Procurement Act and the Public Financial Management Act, arising from what the Governing Council said was Prof Samuel Erasmus Alnaa’s conduct in the execution of a GH¢27,967,992 GETFund-financed procurement contract awarded to M-Business Services Limited in April 2024, and the said unauthorised disposal of 866 items of the university furniture.

Special Investigation Committee

After a Special Investigation Committee’s work and the submission of the report, the Governing Council at an Emergency Meeting on June 9, 2026, formally tabled, examined, debated, and adopted the report after extensive consideration, Graphic Online understands.

Multiple sources have told Graphic Online that the Governing Council after the meeting on June 9, 2026, in its letter of termination of appointment dated June 11, 2026 stated that it has concluded that Prof Alnaa awarded a contract of GH¢27,967,992 to M-Business Services Limited without the approval of the Central Tender Review Board, in breach of Sections 20(1)(a) and (2)(a)(b) of the Public Procurement Act despite the contract sum significantly exceeding the thresholds of both the Head of Entity and the Entity Tender Committee.

Graphic Online understands that the Governing Council also said it concluded that Prof Alnaa made “deliberate and false representations to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) in his letter of April 2024, falsely claiming that M-Business Services Limited had prior supply dealings with BTU, in order to procure fraudulent approval for single source procurement, in contravention of Section 92.

The letter of termination of appointment dated June 11, 2026, a copy of which has been seen by Graphic Online and signed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Bishop Akolgo Amigya-Bia, informing Prof Alnaa about the termination of his appointment listed a number of breaches he is said to have engaged in.

Among other documents related to the matter, which Graphic Online has seen, the Council’s letter indicated that it had concluded that Prof Alnaa “awarded the contract on the verbal instruction of an unidentified caller claiming to be from GETFund, without verifying the identity or authority of that, in a reckless and negligent manner inconistent with his duties as Head of Entity.”

Again, it said “the items procured were said to have been obtained at prices more than seven times open market rates, resulting in an estimated financial loss to the university and the state of Ghana in excess of GH¢19,577,594.40.”

He is also said to have authorised the disposal of 866 items of university furniture without constituting a Board of Survey, in breach of Sections 83-84 of Act 663 (as amended), and without any record of recipients, valuation, or authorisation.

The Council also said he altered the quantity of tables and chairs from 1000 units (as formally requested by the Director of Works and Physical Development) to 2045 units without the requisite consultants, resulting in unnecessary and wasteful expenditure of public funds.

The Council indicated in the termination letter that “the totality of your conduct raises serious and credible concerns of collusion with an unidentified official at GETFund and with M-Business Services Limited, whose beneficial ownership was not established, potentially constituting criminal negligence and causing financial loss to the university and the state of Ghana.”

Per the termination letter, the Governing Council indicated that “NO severance pay, terminal benefits, or emoluments shall be due or payable to you [Alnaa], pending the determination of all disciplinary, surcharge, and criminal proceedings arising from your conduct as set out herein.”

The letter asked him to hand all university property, records, equipment, keys, and any assets under his control or custody to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Peter Osei Boamah, “within 48 hours of the receipt of this letter.”

“You shall not access the university premises, offices, or facilities nor correspond on behalf of the university, from the date of this letter,” the determination letter indicated.

Further proceedings

The letter indicated that Prof Alnaa’s conduct has been referred to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) of the Bank of Ghana for a full forensic and anti-money laundering investigation, including tracing of all payments under the contract, establishing the beneficial ownership of M-Business Services Limited, and identifying the GETFund official who instructed him to award the contract.

It said the matter has also been referred to the Auditor-General for formal disallowance and surcharge proceedings under Sections 96 and 97 of the Public Financial Management Act in respect of the GH¢27,967,992.00 or such portion as represents financial loss caused by his actions.

A formal report on the findings of the Special Investigation Committee has also been submitted to the Minister of Education, it said.

The Council gave Prof Alnaa 14 Days if he wished to make any representations regarding the termination of his appointment and indicated that such representations do not in any way affect the decision to terminate his appointment with immediate effect, it added.

Background

It said the Governing Council on February 13, 2026 constituted the Special Investigation Committee pursuant to Section 12 (1 & 2) of the Technical Universities Act, 2026 (Act 922) as amended and the BTU Statutes.

It said the committee was to investigate alleged breaches of the Public Procurement Act and Public Financial Management Act, arising from Prof Alnaa’s conduct in the execution of the GH¢27,967,992 GETFund-financed procurement contract awarded to M-Business Services Limited in April 2024, and the unauthorised disposal of 866 items of university furniture.

The court held that Dogbey had violated an interlocutory injunction that restrained him from publishing further statements on the matter — specifically relating to a petition filed by Petraco SA against Okyere.

He was sentenced to seven days imprisonment but was subsequently granted bail.

Mr. Asiedu on Thursday confirmed that he had filed a suit against the station at the High Court over what he described as persistent false reportage aimed at destabilising the party in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

His confirmation followed reports that he stormed the station with other officials to lock it up and sack staff while work was in session.

However, in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Anim remained calm and confident in response to the lawsuit threat.

“I haven’t received any court summons, nor have I heard anything about it. So if he has sued me, I am in my office; he can serve me,” he said.

Mr. Anim insisted that his station operates professionally and within the bounds of the law.

“I am not shaken or frightened. I am operating my business, and everything we are doing is based on the truth and facts. My workers are professional, and we are working within the legal framework,” he stated.

He also dismissed any suggestion of bad blood between him and the Kasoa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Banini.

“There is no bad blood between us and the MCE. He is my son, and during his swearing-in, he came to me for support, and we readily assisted him. So I don’t have any problem with him,” Anim added.

The radio owner maintained that if the matter ends up in court, he is ready to face it.

“So if he has sued me, we will go to court. People sometimes don’t like the truth,” he noted.

NPP refers petitions against Kennedy Agyapong to disciplinary committee https://www.adomonline.com/npp-refers-petitions-against-kennedy-agyapong-to-disciplinary-committee/ Fri, 26 Jun 2026 06:53:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676915 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former presidential aspirant and Assin Central stalwart Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to its National Disciplinary Committee over recent public comments considered harmful to party unity.

The decision was reached at a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council on Thursday, June 25, with the committee given two weeks to investigate the petitions and submit recommendations.

The move comes amid growing tensions within the opposition party as it works to rebuild and reposition itself after losing the 2024 general election.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, the NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, confirmed that all petitions filed against Mr Agyapong had been forwarded to the disciplinary committee.

“The decision was that all of these petitions must be referred to the National Disciplinary Committee,” he said.

“Let’s manage for the next two weeks, and when we receive the report and a decision is made, it will be communicated appropriately,” he added.

The petitions follow a series of public remarks by Mr Agyapong in which he criticised some decisions taken by the NPP while in government.

Among the issues that sparked controversy were his comments on the failure of the Akufo-Addo administration to operationalise the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region despite significant investments.

Mr Agyapong also stirred debate after warning that he could “spill the beans” on alleged wrongdoing within the party if attempts were made to silence him.

His remarks have divided opinion within the NPP, with some members arguing that they undermine efforts to strengthen internal unity and restore public trust, while others insist they amount to constructive criticism.

Party insiders say the leadership is worried that such public exchanges could derail its post-election rebuilding efforts, which include restructuring its internal systems, reconnecting with grassroots supporters and preparing for future elections.

The disciplinary committee will now determine whether Mr Agyapong’s comments breached party regulations and codes of conduct.

Mr Agyapong remains one of the NPP’s most influential figures, having placed second behind Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s 2023 presidential primaries.

Known for his outspoken style, he continues to enjoy strong support among sections of the party’s grassroots.

The committee’s findings, expected within the next fortnight, could shape not only Mr Agyapong’s political future but also the broader internal dynamics of the NPP as it seeks to maintain discipline while managing differing views within its ranks.

NDC Chairman sues Obaatanpa Radio over “false” reports https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-chairman-sues-obaatanpa-radio-over-false-reports/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 18:59:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676846 The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Asiedu, says he has filed a lawsuit against Obaatanpa Radio at the High Court.

The move comes in the wake of what he describes as persistent false reportage aimed at destabilising the party in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

Mr Asiedu confirmed this in an interview on Adom FM’s Midday News, following reports that he stormed the station with other officials on Thursday to lock it up and sack staff.

“We just wanted to seek an audience with them because this issue had been ongoing for over two weeks. But for their hostile attitude, nothing would have gone wrong,” he said.

He stated that the station had been peddling false reports about internal wrangling between the Awutu Senya East MP, Phyllis Naa Koryoo, and the NDC constituency chairman, Stephen Agyare, which prompted his action.

He revealed that the legal processes were completed on Wednesday and that the station would soon be served with the writ.

“I have sued the station at the High Court because they are trying to disorganise the NDC in the constituency. We completed the processes yesterday, and they will be served in due course,” Mr Asiedu stated.

He vowed not to sit idle while a radio station tarnishes the image of the party in the Central Region.

Update: Real reason why Larry Dogbe was jailed https://www.adomonline.com/update-real-reason-why-larry-dogbe-was-jailed/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 17:40:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676849 Further details have emerged about the real reasons why Managing Editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Dogbe, has been sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment.

An Accra High Court found Mr Dogbe guilty of contempt of court for violating an injunction that barred further publications concerning businessman Kevin Okyere.

Justice Isaac Addo handed down the sentence on Thursday, June 25, after ruling that Mr. Dogbe had breached a subsisting court order issued in a civil case involving Mr. Okyere, the Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Exploration and Production.

The contempt application, filed by Mr. Okyere, argued that despite the court’s injunction, The Herald went ahead to publish a series of articles that the court had expressly restrained pending the determination of the substantive case.

According to court documents, the injunction prohibited Mr. Dogbe and the newspaper from publishing statements deemed capable of undermining or tarnishing Mr. Okyere’s reputation while the case remained before the court.

Mr. Okyere’s legal team told the court that subsequent publications by The Herald, including reports linking him to fraud and bad-faith commercial dealings, amounted to a deliberate disregard of the court’s order and damaged his reputation within the petroleum industry and among the public.

The High Court agreed with the applicant’s arguments and found Mr. Dogbe in contempt, sentencing him to seven days in prison.

Mr. Dogbe, however, opposed the application, maintaining that he was unaware of the injunction when the publications were made. He also challenged the authenticity and admissibility of some of the documents relied upon by the applicant during the contempt proceedings.

The ruling underscores that the custodial sentence was imposed for the court’s finding that Mr. Dogbe disobeyed an existing injunction—not merely because The Herald published stories about Mr. Okyere.

He has subsequently been sentenced to seven days in prison over the newspaper’s publication on a case involving Kevin Okyere and Petraco SA.

Mr Dogbey disclosed the conviction in a Facebook post on Thursday, stating that the judgment was delivered by Justice Isaac Addo.

According to him, The Herald had only reported on a petition allegedly submitted by the multinational company to several state institutions, including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and the Attorney-General’s Department.

A post by Larry Dogbe on his personal Facebook page to confirm the 7-day sentencing

“Justice Isaac Addo of the Accra High Court has just convicted me and sentenced me to seven days’ imprisonment in the case involving Kevin Okyere and Petraco SA. The Herald newspaper reported only on a petition filed by the multinational company with CID, EOCO, GIPC, the Attorney-General, among others. Ghana deserves better. Journalism is not a crime,” Mr Dogbey wrote.

Further details surrounding the court’s decision and the legal basis for the conviction are yet to be made public.

Muntaka confirms Sedina Tamakloe is in prison custody, not private facility https://www.adomonline.com/muntaka-confirms-sedina-tamakloe-is-in-prison-custody-not-private-facility/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 07:04:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676572 Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has firmly dismissed allegations that former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, is being kept in a private facility or receiving special treatment while serving her prison sentence.

In an interview on Joy News, the Minister insisted that Madam Tamakloe-Attionu is fully in the custody of the state and under the Ghana Prisons Service.

“From the day she came, she has been with us, and she’s with us, and she’s serving her term,” he stated.

Mr Muntaka’s comments come amid growing pressure from opposition lawmakers demanding greater transparency about her exact place of detention following her conviction.

He pushed back against the calls for public disclosure, citing security concerns.

“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, disclosing the location of a high-profile person can even lead to the death of that person. So it’s for safety,” he explained.

The Minister assured the public that there is no preferential treatment.

“Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us,” he said.

“Was she not sentenced? She was. If she was sentenced, where would she be? She must be in prison custody,” he added.

He noted that anyone wishing to confirm her location or arrange a visit should follow official procedures through the Ghana Prisons Service.

In 2024, the Accra High Court convicted her in absentia and sentenced her to 10 years’ imprisonment for multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing. The court found that her actions during her tenure between 2013 and 2016 resulted in a financial loss of nearly GH¢90 million.

She had earlier been granted permission by the High Court in 2021 to travel abroad for medical treatment but failed to return, leading to the continuation of proceedings in her absence and her eventual conviction.

Sedina Tamakloe Attionu’s return to Ghana followed her extradition from the United States to begin serving the 10-year sentence handed down by the Accra High Court.

She arrived at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, June 9, aboard United Airlines flight UA 996 from Washington Dulles International Airport and was received by security personnel before being taken into custody.
