Deputy Minority Leader and Asokwa MP, Patricia Appiagyei, has suggested that the circulation of a purported memorandum alleging that she received and returned GH¢70,000 is part of an attempt by some individuals to create division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Madam Appiagyei described the document as fabricated and denied authorising, writing or circulating it.
In a statement dated September 4, 2026, she said the alleged memorandum, which purportedly linked her to a GH¢70,000 payment over the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees, was false and should be disregarded.
“I did not write, authorise, or circulate this document. It is fake and should be disregarded by all,” she stated.
She also categorically denied receiving GH¢70,000 or any other amount in connection with the vetting of nominees or her duties as a member of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
According to her, since she did not receive any such payment, she had no occasion to return money as suggested by the document.
Madam Appiagyei said she had consistently performed her duties on the Appointments Committee, including during the recent vetting exercise, with integrity.
She disclosed that she was attending the funeral of a friend when her attention was first drawn to the purported document.
She said she initially assumed that the fake document was simply a forgery that would not gain traction, but became concerned after it started receiving significant attention in the media.
The Deputy Minority Leader said she was taking legal advice on the appropriate steps to pursue once the source of the document was established.
She further warned that she reserved her rights to take action against anyone found to have fabricated or knowingly circulated the document.
Madam Appiagyei said the incident appeared to be the work of “faceless individuals” seeking to sow discord within the NPP.
She, however, insisted that such efforts would fail and called on the party’s rank and file to remain united.
She urged NPP supporters and Ghanaians to rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general election.
