Lawyer and political activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has weighed in on the controversy surrounding a GH¢70,000 payment reportedly received by Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, in connection with the recent parliamentary vetting process.
His comments come after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP rejected the money and raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the payment.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Barker-Vormawor said the development reminded him of his earlier comments about Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which he said were based on information he knew to be true.
“When I made my comments about the Appointments Committee based on actual truth that those on Committee not only knew to be true but also that I knew to be true.
“What broke my heart most were the insults of the very Ghanaians whose interests I was speaking for. I couldn’t believe how much lack of support I received for something so plain as day.
“Till today, there are people who actually believe that I made those claims up.
“When you keep pretending your dead mother is alive; soon the smell will lead termites to your room.
“But just watch! Watch to see if any real inquiry will happen. Watch to see if this scandal will be enough to stop the confirmation of the appointment of the Judges to interrogate anything? It will be swept away and we will move on as a people.
“Soon they will start insulting and persecuting the MP instead of actually dealing with the problem. That’s how it has always been. From Ayariga, to Ablakwa to Barker-Vormawor and now Patricia Appiagyei.
“This is how it has always been.
“Maybe one day they themselves will start telling truths about what really happened at the Public Accounts Committee too.
“But for today, I say Vindication is really in the womb of time.”
Mr Barker-Vormawor’s post comes amid growing public discussion over the payment and questions surrounding alleged financial inducements linked to parliamentary vetting.
The controversy has also renewed scrutiny of the work of Parliament’s Appointments Committee and calls for greater transparency in the vetting and confirmation of public officials.
