The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and killing of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when armed men allegedly attacked the victim’s gold-buying shop.
The assailants reportedly shot Seth Kobina in the chest before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
He was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the group.
He was arrested on Friday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him reportedly led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
Police said Amponsah later became ill and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects in the Agona Nkwanta area.
They are 47-year-old Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”; 20-year-old Bashiru Ibrahim; and 30-year-old Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”.
The fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
Police said a search of Quayeson’s residence uncovered another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During interrogation, Quayeson reportedly identified the deceased’s alleged shooter as Emmanuel Amponsah and also identified Thomas Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The five suspects are assisting the Police with investigations as efforts continue to track down other persons believed to have been involved in the robbery and killing.
The Police have assured the public that investigations will continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all persons involved to justice.
