The affected constituencies are Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa, where the party says the elections conducted over the weekend cannot stand.

The decision was reached at a meeting of the party’s National Steering Committee on Wednesday, July 15, following a review of the nationwide constituency executive elections.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the party said the elections in the three constituencies were conducted “in flagrant disregard of Party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections, and, where applicable, subsisting court orders.”

It, therefore, announced that the election results from the affected constituencies had been annulled with immediate effect.

As part of the fallout, the National Steering Committee has directed the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to appear before it on Tuesday, July 21, to explain the circumstances that led to the conduct of the elections in the three constituencies.

The decision follows controversies that marred parts of the constituency executive elections in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the party said election-related issues involving Asante Akyem Central, as well as all other unresolved constituency election disputes across the country, have been referred to the Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Council for advice and recommendations before any further action is taken.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, the NPP assured members that it would continue to uphold the rule of law and ensure strict compliance with the party’s constitution and electoral regulations.

It stressed that the measures were intended to preserve “the integrity, credibility, and transparency of its internal democratic processes.”

NPP sets July 19 deadline for chapter elections ahead of branch polls https://www.adomonline.com/npp-sets-july-19-deadline-for-chapter-elections-ahead-of-branch-polls/ Wed, 15 Jul 2026 13:20:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2684273 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all branches across the country to complete their chapter elections by Sunday, July 19, 2026, warning that chapters that fail to meet the deadline will be barred from participating in the upcoming branch elections.

The directive forms part of measures by the party to ensure compliance with its approved rules and regulations governing the 2026 internal elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, and addressed to Branch Steering Committees through Branch Secretaries, the party’s Director of Finance and Administration and National Representative urged party structures to conduct all outstanding chapter elections within the stipulated timeframe.

The party cautioned that any chapter that fails to organise its elections by the deadline will not be allowed to participate in the Branch Elections scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026.

According to the advisory, the decision is in line with the rules and regulations for the party’s internal elections as approved by the National Council.

“All Chapter Elections within your Branch are duly conducted on or before Sunday, 19 July 2026,” the statement said.

The party further instructed Branch Steering Committees to communicate the directive to all Chapter Executive Committees and ensure strict adherence to the timelines.

The NPP has in recent weeks been preparing its structures for the 2026 internal elections, which are expected to pave the way for the election of constituency and other party executives.

The party said enforcing the timelines is necessary to safeguard the integrity of its internal processes and ensure that all participating structures meet the required provisions before taking part in subsequent elections.

The survey shows Mr Vanderpuye leading with 26.8% support among NDC grassroots respondents, followed by former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo with 19.3%, setting the stage for what could be a closely contested race.

Former Northern Regional Minister Sofo Azorka placed third with 6.4%, narrowly ahead of former Ghana High Commissioner to Egypt Alhaji Said Sinare, who polled 6.3%.

Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Akwasi Opong-Fosu secured 1.7%, while Nii Armah Ashitey recorded 0.0% support.

Other aspirants collectively accounted for 4.1% of responses, while none of the respondents selected the “No opinion” option.

The findings suggest that although Mr Vanderpuye currently holds an early lead among the party’s grassroots supporters, the contest remains competitive, with Mr Ofosu Ampofo emerging as his closest challenger ahead of the NDC’s internal elections.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye breaks silence after release from EOCO custody https://www.adomonline.com/dennis-miracles-aboagye-breaks-silence-after-release-from-eoco-custody/ Wed, 15 Jul 2026 09:20:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2684172 Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has vowed to continue his bid for the position of National Communications Director of the party following his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a statement issued after his release, Mr Aboagye said he emerged from four days in detention “unbroken” and more determined to lead the party’s communications machinery, insisting that efforts to intimidate him had failed.

Mr Aboagye was arrested by EOCO upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to EOCO, his arrest formed part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

He was released on Tuesday evening after meeting his GH¢50 million bail conditions.

However, Mr Aboagye rejected what he described as a “false narrative” surrounding his arrest, insisting that the truth would eventually come out.

“For the records, there was no discussion of any GH¢55 million cedis with me by EOCO. None,” he said.

The former communications aide expressed appreciation to NPP supporters who showed solidarity during his detention, saying their actions strengthened his resolve.

“From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall,” he said, adding that their support demonstrated that “no voice can be intimidated into silence.”

Mr Aboagye said the experience had only deepened his commitment to the NPP, declaring that attempts to weaken or discourage him had failed.

“If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly,” he stated.

He further pledged to continue his campaign to lead the party’s Communications Directorate, insisting that “no cell, no false story, no intimidation” would derail his ambition.

Speaking in Accra on his vision for the party as a candidate for the National Chairmanship position, Mr. Afoko said the NPP has the capacity to return to power in the 2028 general elections if it focuses on rebuilding its grassroots structures and reconnecting with Ghanaians.

He stressed the need to strengthen polling station executives, constituency structures, and party foot soldiers, describing them as the foundation of the NPP’s electoral success.

“If elected National Chairman once again, I would lead as a team player, promoting unity and collective decision-making within the party,” he said.

Mr. Afoko also called on the business community to renew its confidence in the NPP, urging the party to regain the trust of entrepreneurs, traders and other key stakeholders.

He said the party must embrace humility, learn from its past mistakes, and engage more effectively with various sectors of society to create a new era of prosperity.

On youth development, Mr. Afoko pledged to create more opportunities for young people through mentorship, leadership training and increased participation in decision-making processes.

Addressing discussions about the influence of the “Northern factor” in the National Chairman race, he rejected the idea that ethnicity should determine leadership choices within the party.

“The NPP is a national political party that belongs to all Ghanaians,” he said.

Mr. Afoko pledged that, if given the opportunity to lead again, he would serve all party members equally regardless of their ethnic or regional background.

In a press release issued on Saturday, July 11, Dr. Bawumia commended the candidates for their willingness to serve the party and the people of Ghana.

“To all candidates in our constituency elections across the country, I extend my warmest wishes as you offer yourselves to serve our great New Patriotic Party and the people of Ghana. Your willingness to lead and contribute to the progress of our party is commendable and reflects the enduring strength of our democratic tradition,” he said.

He urged all party members to remain united regardless of the outcome of the elections, stressing that the NPP is one family with a shared goal.

“Let us remember that, regardless of the outcomes, we remain members of one family with a shared commitment to rebuilding and advancing our party and our beloved nation,” he added.

The constituency executive elections form part of the NPP’s internal reorganisation process following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, aimed at strengthening the party’s structures ahead of the 2028 elections.

Assin South NPP constituency elections suspended https://www.adomonline.com/assin-south-npp-constituency-elections-suspended/ Sat, 11 Jul 2026 18:19:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682739 The Assin Fosu High Court has suspended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency executive elections in the Assin South Constituency of the Central Region with a 10-day interlocutory injunction.

The court’s decision follows a legal challenge by some party members who alleged that aspects of the nomination process breached the party’s constitution, regulations and electoral guidelines, deepening internal tensions within the constituency.

Speaking to the media, NPP Election Officer for the Nyankumasi Ahenkuro Electoral Area, David Kwabena Marfo, said the party had completed all preparations for the polls before news of the injunction reached officials at the election venue.

According to him, delegates had already gathered and were ready to cast their ballots when they were informed that the court had barred the exercise from proceeding, making it impossible for the Electoral Commission and the security agencies to supervise the elections.

Mr Marfo explained that concerns raised by some party members after the nomination process prompted the court action, resulting in the suspension of the polls.

He further accused the party’s First National Vice Chairman, Smith Danquah, popularly known as “Buttey”, of fuelling divisions within the constituency to advance what he described as personal interests.

“This decision has been taken for selfish interests and not in the collective interest of the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, several delegates expressed disappointment over the suspension, describing the development as a setback to the party’s internal democratic process.

They urged the national leadership to act swiftly to resolve the dispute and safeguard the party’s electoral fortunes in Assin South, which they described as the NPP’s only parliamentary seat in the area.

Vote for me to secure NPP’s victory in 2028 — Nkwanta South Chairman hopeful https://www.adomonline.com/vote-for-me-to-secure-npps-victory-in-2028-nkwanta-south-chairman-hopeful/ Sat, 11 Jul 2026 16:01:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682712 Godwin Yaw Nsembe, an aspiring Constituency Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, has appealed to delegates to place their trust in him and vote massively for him in the ongoing constituency elections.

According to him, the party’s current position demands strong, disciplined, and credible leadership at the constituency level.

He argued that an opposition party needs an energetic and well organised force to reconnect with supporters, mobilise effectively, and rebuild structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In his view, he stands out among the candidates contesting the chairmanship slot as the most credible choice to lead that task.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Godwin Nsembe said that if he is given the nod, he will prioritise unity and inclusiveness, bringing every party member on board, regardless of faction or background, to work towards a common goal: securing victory for the NPP in 2028.

He stressed that the party’s success will depend on teamwork, strategic mobilisation, and a leadership style that listens, coordinates, and delivers results on the ground.

He therefore urged delegates to vote for him overwhelmingly, describing the election as a critical step in positioning the constituency for strong performance in the next general elections.

Meanwhile, a total of 34 candidates, including those contesting women’s positions and other executive roles, are seeking election into various constituency positions as the party prepares for the road to 2028.

Over 1,325 delegates are expected to cast their ballots in today’s constituency elections.

Other aspirants who have also been speaking to the media have similarly appealed to delegates for support, noting that the 2028 contest will require experienced leadership and a well-prepared team capable of matching the opposition, “boat for boat,” in organisation, outreach, and campaign strength.

NPP grassroots demand resolution amid election crisis in Assin South https://www.adomonline.com/npp-grassroots-demand-resolution-amid-election-crisis-in-assin-south/ Sat, 11 Jul 2026 15:55:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682708 Tensions have reached a boiling point in the Assin South Constituency as grassroots members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) move to challenge what they describe as “deliberate attempts” by certain party members and national-level actors to undermine the constituency’s internal electoral process.

In a press release, the group led by convener David Kwabena Marfo expressed deep concern over a series of actions they believe threaten the peace and unity of the constituency, which is currently the only NPP-held seat in the stretch between Adansi Asokwa and Takoradi.

The controversy stems from the conduct of eight specific individuals: Robert Oppong Amoateng, Mark Dankwah, Kofi Serebour, Frank Owusu, Samuel Sackey, Theophilus Essuman Amoakoh, Awo Asuamaa, and Enoch Botchway.

According to the grassroots group, these individuals bypassed established party protocols by submitting nomination forms to the regional level rather than the constituency elections committee.

The group also highlighted boycotting the official vetting process and failure to utilize the formal appeal process after their names were omitted from the official Notice of Poll.

The situation intensified on July 6, 2026, when two contradictory letters surfaced from the office of the Acting National Chairman.

One letter ordered a suspension of the Assin South elections, while the other reportedly cleared the aforementioned individuals to contest.

The crisis deepened on July 7 when some of these cleared candidates filed for an interlocutory injunction against the elections.

The grassroots group questioned the logic of this legal action, asking, “If these individuals had been cleared to contest, what necessitated the resort to court?”

Citing Article 4(2) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates loyalty and adherence to internal dispute-resolution mechanisms, the grassroots are demanding immediate intervention from the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Steering Committee, and the General Secretary.

Their primary demands include nullifying the contradictory letters issued by the national office, upholding the original Notice of Poll produced by the Constituency Elections Committee, ending “meddling” by national-level actors in local constituency affairs and resuming the elections within days to restore stability.

Enforcing party discipline against those found to have acted in bad faith.

The statement concluded with a stern reminder that the strength of the NPP lies in its respect for internal democracy.

The group has called on all party faithful to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting a resolution from national leadership.

His comments come as the NPP holds constituency executive elections on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, at 385 voting centres nationwide to elect officers who will lead the party at the grassroots level.

In a post on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia congratulated candidates for offering themselves for leadership positions and praised the party’s democratic process.

He urged members to see themselves as part of one political family regardless of the outcome of the elections and work together towards rebuilding the party.

“Let us remember that, regardless of the outcomes, we remain members of one family with a shared commitment to rebuilding and advancing our party and our beloved nation,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also encouraged elected executives and other party members to work together after the polls, stressing the need for unity and renewed commitment.

“When the elections are concluded, let us rally behind those elected and work together with renewed purpose and determination,” he added.

The call for unity comes as the NPP undertakes an internal reorganisation process following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, with the constituency elections forming part of efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of future political contests.

Some constituencies are, however, excluded from the exercise due to pending court cases and disagreements over delegates’ electoral albums.

Dr. Bawumia expressed hope that the elections would strengthen the party’s cohesion and prepare it for the challenges ahead.

“May these elections strengthen our unity and position our party for the greater tasks ahead,” he said.

According to him, the decisions taken at the constituency level will play a critical role in rebuilding the party’s strength and improving its chances in the next national contest.

He stressed that, as the party prepares for 2028, Nkwanta South requires leaders who are committed, strategic, and hardworking—individuals who can mobilise supporters, encourage unity, and energise members to actively campaign for the party.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Samuel Larry urged delegates to make their choices based on merit and performance, rather than allowing tribal or religious considerations to influence the outcome.

He encouraged delegates to focus on the broader goal of strengthening the party’s structures and selecting leaders who can effectively engage communities and inspire confidence among party faithful.

He further argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has already disappointed Ghanaians, making it even more important for the NPP to position itself with strong constituency leadership capable of working diligently toward regaining power.

In his view, electing credible officers across the various positions will help consolidate the party’s base and improve internal coordination ahead of the next elections.

Samuel Larry concluded by appealing to delegates to vote responsibly and choose leaders who can bring renewed direction and purpose to the NPP in Nkwanta South, with the ultimate aim of securing victory in 2028.

The individuals reportedly barged into the polling centre at the Kumasi Cultural Centre and began destroying ballot boxes and papers.

An eyewitness told Adom News that the three also physically assaulted officials supervising the voting process.

One of the election officers sustained an injury to the foot and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shaibu Bamba, Constituency Organiser, and Abu, Adoato Polling Station Chairman while the third person is yet to be identified.

Sources claim a court injunction has been placed on the Bantama internal election, but some party executive defied the order to conduct the election without the Electoral Commission

Despite the Commission’s withdrawal, police personnel were deployed to monitor the election early Saturday morning.

However, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur, visited the polling centre and ordered the withdrawal of his men.

While the police personnel were about to leave, some heavily built men entered the inner perimeter of the centre and began vandalizing the voting materials.

The voting process has currently been halted, awaiting a decision from the National Executive Council.

Mr Samuel Dattoh Kwaah, Director of Electoral Services at the EC, told the Ghana News Agency on Friday that the Commission had completed all necessary preparations, including logistics, election materials, and personnel deployment.

“The EC is ready for the election on Saturday and Sunday,” he said, adding: “All the preparations are underway.”

Mr Kwaah said the number of voting centres had been increased from 276 constituencies to 385 to accommodate constituencies with large numbers of delegates.

“We have 276 constituencies, but some of the constituencies are huge, so we have split those centres. Instead of 276 voting centres, we are going to have 385 voting centres,” he said.

Mr Kwaah said ballot papers and registers would be distributed at the constituency level through collaboration between the EC and the NPP’s Constituency Election Committees to facilitate the smooth conduct of the polls.

He said elections would not be held in some constituencies because of unresolved legal disputes and disagreements over the delegates’ electoral album.

“Some will not be able to hold the election because, as we speak now, some have issues. Others could not agree on the album, while some are in court,” he said.

Mr Kwaah explained that constituencies affected by disputes over the compilation of the electoral album or legal challenges relating to candidate disqualifications would have their elections suspended until the issues were resolved.

“I know there are a few areas where people have gone to court, and those areas the elections cannot come on,” he said.

Mr Kwaah said the National, Regional and Constituency Election Security Task Forces had been engaged to ensure peaceful polls.

“The police are in close collaboration with the election committee and are going to provide security for the elections,” he said.

The constituency executive elections form part of the NPP’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The party has already elected its presidential candidate and completed the election of polling station and branch executives nationwide.

It is expected to hold regional executive elections before concluding the reorganisation process with the election of national executives.

“I’m built for this battle” — Wontumi vows to lead NPP back to power https://www.adomonline.com/im-built-for-this-battle-wontumi-vows-to-lead-npp-back-to-power/ Fri, 10 Jul 2026 17:47:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682512 National Chairman Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as part of his stakeholder engagement, has held a strategic meeting with the Asia and Pacific Caucus of the external branches.

The meeting, which brought together executives, members, and supporters across Asia and the Pacific, focused on strengthening party structures abroad, deepening diaspora participation, and aligning the external branches with the 2028 victory agenda.

Addressing the caucus, Chairman Wontumi commended members of the Asia-Pacific branches for their dedication and role in protecting the NPP’s values of development in freedom beyond Ghana’s borders.

He emphasized that diaspora support in policy advocacy, fundraising, and voter education will be key to retaining power and delivering on the Party’s development agenda.

Members of the Asia-Pacific caucus welcomed the engagement, describing it as timely and motivating.

They pledged to work closely with the national executive to ensure the external branches remain active, funded, and aligned with the Party’s strategic goals ahead of 2028.

A major theme of the engagement was the Party’s relationship with its grassroots and diaspora wings.

Chairman Wontumi was self-critical about past shortcomings, stressing the need for inclusion as part of the party’s rebuilding process.

“One of the mistakes we made was not engaging our grassroots and our brothers and sisters in the diaspora as effectively as we should have. We failed to listen to their concerns and fully harness their ideas and contributions. That must change,” he said.

He told the Asia-Pacific caucus that external branches are not just fundraising arms but strategic partners in policy, advocacy, and voter mobilization.

Wontumi was direct; he spoke about the critical relationship at the top of the party hierarchy.

“The relationship between the flagbearer and the National Chairman must be one of trust, respect, and unity. That partnership is essential to our success and must never be compromised.

His readiness for the contest and for governance. “I am built for this battle, and I am fully prepared for the challenge of leading our party back to power,” he said.

“I am ready to serve as National Chairman. My focus is to unite our Party, energize our grassroots, and lead the NPP back to victory.”

On the issue of suspended and departed members, Wontumi stressed the need for the party to be firm and hold the line but also be able to heal.

“The Party must remain disciplined. We cannot allow blackmail or undue pressure to dictate our decisions. The punishment imposed has served its purpose. It is time to look at the bigger picture and work towards reconciliation where possible,” he stated.

On the issue of Kennedy Agyapong, Wontumi intimated that he will personally engage with Kennedy Agyapong in due course.

“I will personally find an opportunity to engage Kennedy Agyapong because dialogue and unity are important for the future of our party,” he added.

Wontumi also hinted at structural changes ahead. “We will continue to research and consult on our delegates system, including whether it is feasible and beneficial for the wider membership of the party to participate in electing executives.”

Members of the Asia-Pacific caucus described the engagement as timely and motivating, pledging to intensify mobilization and project the NPP’s values abroad.

Sammi Awuku warns Prez Mahama over third-term ‘trap’ https://www.adomonline.com/sammi-awuku-warns-prez-mahama-over-third-term-trap/ Fri, 10 Jul 2026 13:32:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682368 Former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser, Sammi Awuku, has cautioned President John Dramani Mahama against what he describes as attempts by some individuals within the President’s own political circle to lure him into pursuing a third term in office.

In a social media post on Friday, Awuku said unnamed persons behind the ongoing legal actions concerning presidential term limits were “plotting the eventual downfall” of President Mahama.

“I have a funny suspicion that those behind the suits are plotting the eventual downfall of President Mahama. Mr President, they don’t wish you well. Don’t fall for this trap and don’t be persuaded to drink a cup of ‘poison’ prepared by detractors in your own party,” he wrote.

Awuku argued that even the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, founder of the NDC, did not attempt such a path, urging President Mahama to complete his tenure and “retire in dignity in 2029.”

He further suggested that there were already individuals within the governing party with presidential ambitions who could eventually align with the opposition against Mahama if he pursued what he described as an ill-advised course.

“Remember there are people already in your party campaigning to be President. They will join hands with the opposition to nail you big time. Retire in dignity in 2029. You don’t need endless demonstrations to end your successful political career,” Awuku added.

Awuku’s comments were made in response to an earlier post by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who also warned President Mahama against yielding to what he called a dangerous political trap.

Manasseh wrote: “Whichever way the Supreme Court rules, President Mahama must not fall for the ruinous trap being set by THOSE BEHIND the suits.”

The two posts come amid public debate over legal actions currently before the Supreme Court relating to the interpretation of presidential term limits.

Although neither Awuku nor Manasseh identified the individuals they referred to as “those behind the suits,” both urged President Mahama to resist any pressure that could draw him into a constitutional controversy over his political future.

Global Patriots Germany urges peaceful NPP election in Lower West Akyem https://www.adomonline.com/global-patriots-germany-urges-peaceful-npp-election-in-lower-west-akyem/ Fri, 10 Jul 2026 12:27:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2682259 The Global Patriots Germany has extended its best wishes to all aspirants contesting the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lower West Akyem Constituency Executive Elections scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026.

In a statement, the group urged delegates, party members and supporters to ensure the elections are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, unity, discipline and mutual respect.

The organisation said a peaceful and transparent process would strengthen the party’s democratic credentials and position it better ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Global Patriots Germany also declared its support for Madam Rebecca Adjei Sarpong, popularly known as Obaatanpa, in her bid for the position of 2nd Vice Chairperson.

“We firmly believe that Madam Rebecca Adjei Sarpong possesses the dedication, experience and grassroots mobilisation capacity required to strengthen the constituency and contribute significantly to the party’s preparations towards reclaiming electoral victory in 2028,” the group stated.

The group further encouraged all candidates and delegates to uphold the values of fairness, tolerance and respect throughout the electoral process.

They therefore appealed to all delegates to give her massive support on election day.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Adjei Sarpong herself has expressed strong confidence that the NPP will reclaim the Lower West Akyem parliamentary seat in 2028.

The seat is currently held by Owen Kwame Frimpong of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who won it in 2024.

Speaking to Adom News, the 2nd Vice Chairperson aspirant said the party is ready for a strong comeback through hard work, unity, and effective grassroots mobilisation.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu warns of NPP leadership clashes https://www.adomonline.com/kyei-mensah-bonsu-warns-of-npp-leadership-clashes/ Thu, 09 Jul 2026 09:23:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2681617 The Chief of Staff of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has cautioned that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) current leadership structure could deepen internal divisions if the party fails to clarify its constitutional provisions on leadership.

His comments come as the NPP prepares to consider a number of constitutional amendments ahead of its National Delegates Conference scheduled for September 19, 2026.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, the former Majority Leader said the party’s existing arrangement, which places leadership responsibilities around the National Chairman whether the NPP is in government or opposition, could create challenges when the chairman and the party’s presidential candidate come from different camps.

“We’ve had situations where the person who became the chairman may not have had the person who eventually became the presidential candidate as his candidate. So if you have such a situation, it’s a recipe for confusion and conflict in the party,” he said.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said there are varying views within the party on whether the constitution should formally recognise the presidential candidate as the party’s leader or maintain the current practice where the position remains undefined.

“We leave it as it had been without naming whoever, but the generality of the people recognise that the presidential candidate is effectively the leader of the party de facto. Or do we formalise it? I think the party will have to think through what is the most appropriate,” he added.

He disclosed that the leadership question is among several proposed constitutional amendments expected to be discussed at the September delegates’ conference, which will also see the election of new national executives.

The former Speaker of Parliament also revealed that the party is considering reforms to strengthen its grassroots structures by expanding the responsibilities of polling station executives.

Under the proposed changes, polling station executives would be required to promote the party’s political, social, and economic programmes through house-to-house campaigns, register new members, and submit reports to improve the party’s membership tracking at the grassroots level.

He said the reforms are aimed at deepening the NPP’s organisational structure and improving its effectiveness.

As part of preparations for the conference, the NPP has invited members to submit proposed constitutional amendments by July 17, 2026, for consideration at the National Delegates Conference on September 19.

NDC members petition leadership over alleged irregularities in Lower Manya Krobo branch elections https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-members-petition-leadership-over-alleged-irregularities-in-lower-manya-krobo-branch-elections/ Mon, 06 Jul 2026 07:16:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2680097 Some members and branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency have petitioned the party’s Eastern Regional Secretariat and Elections Directorate to replace the official supervising the ongoing branch elections.

The petitioners alleged procedural breaches, including irregularities in the electoral process and perceived bias in supervision, which they say could undermine confidence in the elections and deepen tensions within the constituency.

At a press briefing in Agomanya, Mr Torkonoo Edem Luke, a member of the constituency communications team, presented the petition on behalf of the group and called for urgent intervention to safeguard the credibility and integrity of the party’s internal electoral process.

The group is demanding the immediate replacement of Alhaji Sumaila Mahama, the official deployed by the Eastern Regional Secretariat to supervise the branch elections.

They alleged that he failed to strictly enforce party election guidelines, resulting in procedural irregularities during the exercise.

According to the petitioners, the alleged breaches include the improper composition of election committees, the participation of ineligible aspirants, and unauthorised alterations to branch voter registers.

They further claimed that some members who raised concerns about the process had been subjected to intimidation and threats, describing such conduct as inconsistent with the democratic principles underpinning the party’s internal elections.

The group also alleged that the supervisor’s actions had created perceptions of bias among some aspirants and contributed to growing tensions in several branches, thereby eroding confidence in the electoral process and threatening party unity in the constituency.

Citing an incident at the Lacky Day One and Lacky Day Two branches on June 30, 2026, the petitioners said disagreements over the eligibility of a Women’s Organiser aspirant disrupted the elections. They contended that the supervisor’s insistence that the position should proceed unopposed heightened tensions and fuelled disagreements among members.

They have therefore called for the suspension of the ongoing branch elections, a formal investigation into the allegations, and the appointment of a neutral supervisor to restore confidence in the process. The group also urged party leadership to assure members that grievances can be reported without fear of intimidation or victimisation.

Responding to the allegations, Alhaji Mahama rejected the claims and maintained that all actions taken during the elections were consistent with NDC rules and established procedures.

He explained that at the Odumase Presbyterian election centre, concerns were raised regarding the eligibility of an aspirant, prompting the supervisory team to request the relevant register and supporting documents for verification.

He said the complainant was unable to provide the required records at the time.

Alhaji Mahama said the matter was subsequently discussed with constituency, regional, and national election committee representatives to ensure compliance with party procedures.

He added that the complainant later left the venue before the issue could be fully resolved.

Touching on the Ato-Tsunya branch elections, he said a Women’s Organiser aspirant petitioned against her opponent and copied the petition to constituency, regional, and national executives.

According to him, because the matter was already before higher party authorities, the supervisory team withheld only the contested position while allowing elections for the remaining positions to proceed with the consent of the committees present.

Alhaji Mahama further alleged that during a swearing-in ceremony, some individuals who were not members of the branch attempted to disrupt proceedings by demanding the inclusion of the withheld position despite the pending petition.

He described the incident as interference in the electoral process.

He maintained that all duly elected officers remain validly elected and insisted that the elections were conducted freely, fairly, and in accordance with party regulations.

He dismissed calls for his removal as unfounded and motivated by personal interests, urging members to use the party’s established dispute-resolution mechanisms.

The Eastern Regional Secretariat had not officially responded to the petition or counterclaims at the time of filing this report, as disagreements over the conduct of the branch elections continue in the constituency.

Paul Afoko is NPP’s only unifier – Addai Nimo https://www.adomonline.com/paul-afoko-is-npps-only-unifier-addai-nimo/ Sat, 27 Jun 2026 09:41:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677316 Former Asante Mampong Member of Parliament and two-time flagbearer aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Francis Addai Nimo believes Awentami Paul Afoko is the unifying candidate the party needs in its reorganization.

According to him, Mr. Afoko after going through torrid moments in the party, can easily bring others who feel aggrieved back into the fold.

Speaking to NPP delegates in the Upper West Region, Addai Nimo said, “If we give him the mandate, he can go to our brothers and sisters who are aggrieved and sitting somewhere, and then he will go and tell them, ‘When I went back and told my story to the party, they renewed my mandate for me, so all of you come and let’s go. Won’t they listen?”

He noted that the NPP’s problem is not about the opposition from the NPP but rather the party’s internal problems.

However, if the party is able to unite and have a solid front, he is of the view that getting back to power will not be a problem.

“The problem is not NDC; the problem is we the internal people. We have not treated ourselves well,” he said.

The former lawmaker described the coming back of Afoko as non-negotiable, arguing that he possesses the qualities to reclaim lost seats at a time when the NPP is without seats in some regions of the country.

“He is more than capable of reorganizing the party for effectiveness and efficiency. At this crucial moment when we have no seats in some regions of the country we need an Amazing person to occupy the position. We have 4 regions with 53 seats and the NPP has none. We need capable hand to salvage the party”, he stated.

Mr Afoko been touring constituencies with a message of reuniting, rebuilding, and returning to the NPP to power under what he calls the 3Rs Agenda.

Slogan often used: “One NPP, One People”. Grassroots Empowerment: He’s campaigned on giving more power and respect to polling station executives, constituency executives, and the rank-and-file.

Key promise of better welfare, logistics, and inclusion in party decision-making as Afoko frames himself as the leader who can re-organize the NPP’s base after the 2024 loss.

NPP General Secretary hopeful proposes ‘one member, one vote’ system as part of rebuilding https://www.adomonline.com/npp-general-secretary-hopeful-proposes-one-member-one-vote-system-as-part-of-rebuilding/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 07:30:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676579 Former Subin Member of Parliament and aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has called on the party to adopt a “one member, one vote” system to deepen internal democracy and strengthen its grassroots base.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Boakye Antwi argued that expanding participation beyond delegates is essential if the NPP is to rebuild after its 2024 election defeat.

He acknowledged the important role delegates have played in the party’s history but said it is time to give ordinary card-bearing members a greater say.

“The Jimmy Heymann Committee recommended universal suffrage for party members back in 2009, and subsequent committees have also made similar recommendations.

“The party had a perfect opportunity to implement these reforms at the July 2025 National Delegates Conference in Legon after our 2024 performance, but we did not act,” he said.

Mr Boakye Antwi expressed disappointment over the delay, dismissing logistical challenges as an insufficient excuse.

“You cannot cite logistics as an excuse when the recommendation has been on the table for over fifteen years,” he stated.

Drawing on his own experience, he emphasised the importance of genuine grassroots politics.

“When I was selected as a candidate in June 2015, I travelled for three months, and when I returned in November, we went to every house, church, and mosque in Subin. People could feel that you were a grassroots person,” he noted.

He added that experience at the grassroots level is essential for effective leadership at the top.

“The experience you get from the ground, if you are able to bring it to the top, that is what makes you effective,” he said.

Reflecting on the NPP’s past success, Mr Boakye Antwi cited the 2016 election strategy as an example of strong preparation.

“We sat and said there cannot be an election where results are declared and, as a candidate, you cannot get your hands on your pink sheet,” he said.

On the party’s 2024 defeat, he was blunt about what he described as inadequate preparedness.

“What was our readiness? You do not go for elections just like that,” he said. “If you are a candidate or parliamentary candidate on the ground, you know where all the challenges can come from, so you prepare.”

He believes that adopting a “one member, one vote” system, alongside stronger polling station structures and youth engagement, should form the core of the NPP’s renewal agenda as it prepares for future elections.

Strong political parties are built on structures, not personalities – Former Subin MP https://www.adomonline.com/strong-political-parties-are-built-on-structures-not-personalities-former-subin-mp/ Tue, 23 Jun 2026 16:55:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676052 Former Subin MP and aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has stressed the need for the party to focus on building strong structures rather than relying on personalities when assigning positions.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boakye Antwi called for a merit-based approach where individuals are placed in roles that match their strengths, particularly literacy and numeracy for key administrative positions.

“We must be able to identify people and their strengths and put them in certain positions,” he said. “Because the most important factor in an election is to be literate and numerate.”

He emphasised that sustainable success for any political party lies in strong systems and structures, not individuals.

“The strongest political parties everywhere are not built on personalities but structures,” Boakye Antwi declared.

He recounted how he championed this idea in the Subin constituency as far back as 2015, even though it drew criticism from some party members.

“I started championing this agenda in Subin, and people accused me of sidelining and elminating them in 2015,” he recalled.

“I am happy that the general party has now adopted that if you want to be a secretary, you must be able to read and write. Because you are the administrator of the party. So if you can’t read and write, how do we get things done?” he questioned.

Mr. Antwi gave a practical example of the dangers of placing people in positions based solely on popularity or personality.

“We can also have the case that someone is a tomato seller at Asafo but is courageous and well-spoken so she is given the position of a polling station women’s organizer. But without proper training, she cannot deliver. On an election day, she won’t even know what to do when it comes to engaging electorates and other electoral-related duties,” he explained.

He pointed to the situation in Britain, where seven Prime Ministers have been in office in the last 10 years, as a cautionary tale of focusing too much on short-term electoral wins.

“Every politician’s duty is to focus on winning 2028,” he added. “If that is not part of the agenda, then whatever you are doing is not necessary because you lose an election, the frustration, the debt and the pain it brings to party members.”

Mr. Antwi’s comments come as the NPP prepares for internal elections and rebuilds for victory in 2028, with many calling for reforms to strengthen the party’s organisational foundation ahead of future contests.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP made the declaration after participating in a unity walk organised by party supporters in Tarkwa-Nsuaem on Saturday.

The event, held under the theme “United We Walk, Stronger We Build,” was aimed at rallying party members, promoting unity, and reaffirming the party’s commitment to reclaiming power.

Addressing party faithful, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako stressed the importance of unity and grassroots mobilisation as the party prepares for the 2028 general election.

He pledged to continue working tirelessly to strengthen the NPP and support the presidential ambition of Mahamudu Bawumia.

Also present at the event was former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, along with several polling station executives and party supporters.

Residents also joined the event in large numbers, filling the streets of Tarkwa with colours of the New Patriotic Party from Teberebie Junction through to the party office opposite TNA Stadium.

Supporters chanted slogans and waved flags as the procession moved through key areas of the constituency, creating a vibrant display of party unity and mobilisation.

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako’s presence turned the walk into both a show of unity and a strong demonstration of grassroots support.

Speaking at the NPP office opposite TNA Stadium, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako criticised the current economic hardship facing Ghanaians, urging the party to work harder to regain public trust.

He reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “I will not rest until Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next president of Ghana come 2028.”

For his part, former Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, urged party members to rally behind Wontumi’s bid for the National Chairman position, stressing that unity will be key to helping the party return to power in the 2028 general elections.

Nigerian court orders electoral body to de-register main opposition party, four others https://www.adomonline.com/nigerian-court-orders-electoral-body-to-de-register-main-opposition-party-four-others/ Tue, 16 Jun 2026 09:07:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2673317 A Nigerian court on Monday ordered the electoral agency to deregister one of the main opposition political parties and four others for failing to meet constitutional requirements, a ruling that could reshape the field ahead of next January’s elections.

Federal High Court judge Peter Lifu directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to strike the African Democratic Congress and others from its register, backing claims by former lawmakers that they did not meet minimum electoral performance thresholds.

Nigerian law requires a party to either win at least one elective seat at any level or secure at least 25% of the vote in a state in a presidential election, failing which it risks deregistration.

The ruling poses a hurdle for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate and a leading challenger to President Bola Tinubu, and could narrow the opposition field.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi rejected the ruling, calling it “a direct invitation to anarchy”. The party will appeal the ruling through all legal and constitutional channels, he said.

Speaking to Adom News after the conclusion of the elections in the municipality, Mr Obeng praised the commitment and cooperation demonstrated by party members throughout the exercise, describing the process as peaceful and well-organised.

He particularly acknowledged the contributions of constituency executives, regional representatives, election committee members and grassroots supporters whose efforts helped ensure a smooth electoral process.

According to him, the successful completion of the elections reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening its structures at the grassroots level and preparing adequately for future political contests.

He stressed that the strength of the NPP lies in its grassroots base and urged party members to work together in promoting unity and cohesion within the constituency.

The constituency secretary further underscored the importance of investing in the welfare and capacity building of grassroots members, noting that a well-equipped and motivated base would enhance the party’s ability to engage voters, communicate its policies effectively and respond promptly to issues affecting local communities.

Trials don’t break me and every battle has been fought hard – Wontumi https://www.adomonline.com/trials-dont-break-me-and-every-battle-has-been-fought-hard-wontumi/ Mon, 01 Jun 2026 16:47:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667963 New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has pledged to rebuild and unite the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in a live interview as part of his engagement with delegates and stakeholders, the Ashanti Regional Chairman said his political journey has been shaped by resilience and a record of navigating difficult contests within the party.

“Trials have tested me, the NPP has trusted me, I am here to deliver results,” he said.

He reflected on his rise through the party ranks, noting that his leadership in the Ashanti Region has been sustained through three consecutive terms, which he attributed to grassroots support.

“I have never had the luxury of an easy election. Every battle has been hard fought. But those trials did not break me. They built me,” he said. “The grassroots made me. I owe them everything.”

Chairman Wontumi stressed that loyalty in politics must be demonstrated through actions rather than words, citing his support for the party’s leadership in previous elections.

“When the party chose Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, I put personal preference aside and worked for victory. That is what loyalty looks like. Not in words, but in work,” he stated.

He argued that the party’s challenges are not about lack of competence, but the need for stronger organisational leadership focused on winning elections.

“We don’t need more polished English. We need a working chairman. The NPP has no shortage of elites and eloquent speakers. I am here to deliver results,” he said.

Outlining his vision if elected, he said his focus would be on strengthening internal unity, rebuilding grassroots structures, supporting young activists, and leading the party to victory in 2028 behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He also addressed ongoing legal matters involving him, saying they do not affect his ability to serve the party.

“Let me address the elephant in the room. My legal challenges do not disqualify me from serving. I respect the law. I believe in due process,” he said, adding that “history is full of leaders who were tried in the fire while serving their people. What matters is integrity. What matters is resilience. I have both.”

He maintained that his bid is driven by service rather than personal ambition, promising to be a hands-on leader who remains close to the grassroots.

“I’m not asking to be served. I’m asking to serve. I will be a working chairman. The kind who sleep in the constituencies and wake up with the grassroots,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi added that his leadership would focus on unity and discipline within the party as it positions itself for the next general election.

Savannah NDC orders immediate halt to early internal campaign activities https://www.adomonline.com/savannah-ndc-orders-immediate-halt-to-early-internal-campaign-activities/ Tue, 26 May 2026 10:31:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666196 The Savannah Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress has directed party members to immediately stop all unauthorised campaign activities for constituency, regional and national executive positions within the region.

In a statement dated May 21, 2026, and signed by the Regional Secretary, Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu Esq., the Committee said it had observed a growing number of premature campaign activities by some prospective aspirants ahead of the party’s officially approved timelines.

According to the Committee, the early campaigns are undermining the ongoing branch reorganisation exercise in the Savannah Region, which it described as essential to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.

The statement also noted that the activities are diverting the attention of constituency executives from the reorganisation process, which remains a key part of the party’s internal restructuring efforts.

“Such campaigns undermine and thwart the efforts of the Branch Reorganisation exercise currently ongoing in the Savannah Region. It also derails the attention of the Constituency Executive Committee from focusing on the Branch Reorganisation exercise at the Branches, a critical pillar of the party,” the statement said.

2028 election: NPP Frankfurt Chapter urges unity, backs Bawumia to rescue Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/2028-election-npp-frankfurt-chapter-urges-unity-backs-bawumia-to-rescue-ghana/ Tue, 26 May 2026 10:07:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666189 The Frankfurt Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Germany has called on party members at home and abroad to close ranks and unite if they hope to return to power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to Adom News, Michael Arthur, popularly known as McArthur, an aspirant for the position of Communication Officer for NPP Germany, said the party’s path to victory lies in peace, unity, and strong communication.

“Without peace and unity, it will be difficult for the party to win 2028. But with unity, peace and strong communication, the NPP will surely win, because we have a great leader in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” McArthur stated.

He argued that Ghanaian youth are currently “suffering” under the NDC government, which he accused of failing to fulfill its campaign promises. According to him, the NPP remains the only party capable of saving Ghana, with Dr. Bawumia leading the charge.

McArthur’s comments follow a high-level strategic session recently organized by the NPP Frankfurt Chapter aimed at reshaping and rebuilding the party’s communication approach ahead of the 2028 polls.

The meeting brought together party executives, communicators, and members of the Ghanaian diaspora to map out plans for reclaiming power.

The session featured two high-profile guest speakers: Nana Akomea, Chairman of the NPP’s Communications Committee and Senior Advisor to Dr. Bawumia, and Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, former MP for Bantama and former CEO of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Both shared insights on effective messaging, diaspora mobilization, and countering opposition narratives.

McArthur expressed gratitude to all NPP members, especially Ghanaians abroad, who participated in the strategy meeting.

He emphasized that the diaspora remains a critical wing of the party and will play a key role in shaping public discourse and fundraising ahead of 2028.

David Hundeyin to release documentary on Tanzania election violence coverage https://www.adomonline.com/david-hundeyin-to-release-documentary-on-tanzania-election-violence-coverage/ Sat, 23 May 2026 19:48:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665377 Award-winning Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin is preparing to release a new documentary examining how international media organisations reported the violence that followed Tanzania’s October 2025 General Election.

The documentary, titled What Happened on October 29?, seeks to provide what Hundeyin describes as a deeper and more complete account of the unrest that erupted after the ruling CCM party, led by Samia Suluhu Hassan, was declared winner of the polls.

According to him, several important aspects of the events were either overlooked or insufficiently explored in international reporting.

Hundeyin, who is currently based in Ghana, reportedly spent months investigating the incidents surrounding the election. His work involved interviews with individuals within and outside Tanzania, reviews of local and foreign media reports, and analysis of findings from the Commission of Inquiry chaired by retired Chief Justice Mohamed Chande Othman.

According to the journalist, the documentary presents evidence suggesting the violence was organised and involved both domestic and external actors.

He argued that the global narrative surrounding the events failed to capture the broader political context behind the unrest.

“The story that was told to the world was a simple one, but the truth is far more complex,” Hundeyin said.

“There were other actors involved, and other agendas at play.”

Hundeyin stated that the project is intended to encourage more African-led storytelling on major political developments across the continent. He argued that African journalists and content creators must play a stronger role in shaping narratives about the continent instead of relying heavily on external interpretations.

The investigative journalist is the founder of West Africa Weekly and The Spearhead. His reporting has previously appeared on major international outlets including CNN, Al Jazeera and The Washington Post.

NDC won 2024 elections because we made bold decisions – Asiedu Nketia (Video) https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-won-2024-elections-because-we-made-bold-decisions-asiedu-nketia-video/ Fri, 22 May 2026 16:49:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665132 Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed that the landslide victory in the 2024 general elections was partly the result of tough but intentional changes made to its parliamentary leadership, which he believes strengthened the party ahead of the polls.

The NDC, in 2023, reshuffled its parliamentary leadership as part of a broader restructuring exercise that affected both grassroots and national structures. The move saw the removal of the then Minority leadership team led by Haruna Iddrisu.

Under the changes communicated to Parliament in a letter dated January 23, 2023, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, MP for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, became Minority Leader, replacing Haruna Iddrisu.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, was appointed Deputy Minority Leader, while Kwame Agbodza took over as Minority Whip, succeeding Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyoe Ghansah were named First and Second Deputy Whips, respectively.

Speaking in a video from his Thank You tour in Tamale, shared online by Accra-based Asaase FM, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the restructuring was necessary in the lead-up to the election.

“New things were emerging and I said that we have to change the forward line of Parliament, otherwise it will be difficult for us to win the election,” he said.

He explained that he took on what he described as a “coach” role in guiding the party into the election, even though there was initial disagreement from President John Dramani Mahama regarding the changes.

“You have elected me as Chairman of this party, I am the coach of the party going into the election, so let me make the changes that will win us the election,” he recounted.

According to him, the decision sparked tension within the party at the time and was widely misunderstood as personal conflict rather than strategy.

“There was hell and people started thinking that somebody who has been my friend for more than 20 years has suddenly become my enemy,” he said.

Mr. Nketia stressed that the move was purely strategic and aimed at strengthening the party’s chances, not sidelining senior members.

He added that after the election, he advised President Mahama to include experienced figures such as Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak in government, a suggestion the President agreed to.

Following the NDC’s victory, Mr. Iddrisu was appointed Minister for Education, while Mr. Muntaka was appointed Minister for the Interior, which General Mosquito, as he is popularly known, said helped reinforce unity within the party.

He also described the 2024 election result as proof that the strategy worked, urging party members to avoid factional politics and stay united.

“We went into the election, and we won. Have you seen such a victory in Ghana since the beginning of the Fourth Republic? If you are forming groups, Haruna groups, Asiedu Nketia groups, that is not our case. The NDC will continue to be one,” he said.

Peace pacts alone cannot stop electoral violence – Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/peace-pacts-alone-cannot-stop-electoral-violence-asiedu-nketia/ Thu, 21 May 2026 19:45:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664722 National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stated that signing peace pact documents alone cannot prevent electoral violence unless offenders are punished and state institutions strictly enforce the law.

Speaking during his ongoing thank-you tour of the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia defended his decision not to sign the 2024 peace pact ahead of the general elections.

According to him, peace agreements without accountability for past acts of electoral violence cannot guarantee peace during elections.

“The peace pact document was asked to be signed by all political parties before the 2024 elections to ensure that there would be no violence, but my position was that documents do not stop violence. It all boils down to the police, soldiers and the people to stop it,” he said.

He explained that his refusal to sign the agreement was influenced by what he described as the failure of authorities to punish individuals identified in previous election-related violence.

“A commission of enquiry came out, and people who should have been punished were not punished by the then government. That is why I opposed the 2024 peace pact,” he stated.

Asiedu Nketia argued that peace pacts would only be meaningful if institutions responsible for law enforcement and justice were fully committed to holding offenders accountable.

“So if the people who are supposed to ensure offenders get punished, like the police and judges, sign, then I will sign,” he added.

The NDC Chairman also linked the death of Haruna Shaibu, popularly known as Alhaji, during the 2024 elections to electoral violence in the constituency.

According to him, tensions erupted after some persons allegedly attempted to overturn election results through violence, despite the NDC’s victory in the area.

“The unfortunate incident in which Haruna Shaibu passed happened because they knew we had won the elections in this constituency and they wanted to change the results through violence. People stood to prevent it, and in the course of preventing it, that is how our brother lost his life,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia stressed that electoral violence will only end when perpetrators are prosecuted and punished.

“The only way to stop electoral violence is to punish the people who engage in electoral violence. No document signed anywhere will prevent electoral violence,” he stated.

He further cautioned against ignoring past incidents of political violence, insisting that justice must be pursued regardless of election outcomes.

“Violence has no expiry date, and so this matter of letting sleeping dogs lie is why the violence is not stopping. Justice has to be done,” he added.

Speaking during his ongoing thank-you tour of the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia expressed appreciation to the people of Nyamkpala for their commitment and support before, during and after the elections.

According to him, the community played a key role in the NDC’s campaign efforts to return John Dramani Mahama to power and secure victory for the party’s parliamentary candidate.

“We thank the good people of Nyamkpala for your effort during, before and after the 2024 general elections. I came here with the team and we visited several places to appeal for votes to return President Mahama to power and also to get an MP elected on the ticket of the NDC,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia noted that both the party and residents of Nyamkpala worked hard during the campaign period.

“We did our best and I know the people of Nyamkpala did their best,” he stated.

The NDC Chairman, however, acknowledged the loss suffered by the community following the death of Haruna Shaibu during the elections.

“In the process, we lost one of our brothers, Alhaji Haruna. We are still pursuing that matter,” he said.

According to him, the people of Nyamkpala deserve more than appreciation because they lost a respected member of the community.

“The people of Nyamkpala need even more than our thanks because, apart from the campaign, you also lost a very good son,” he added.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia assured the family and residents that the party remains committed to seeking justice.

“So I am here to assure you that your son will not die in vain. We will continue to pursue the matter,” he stressed.

He further thanked traditional leaders and residents for their prayers, advice and guidance throughout the election period.

“So we want to thank everyone, including the Chief, for the prayers, advice and guidance,” he added.

Tension mounts in Fanteakwa North as NDC members demand DCE’s removal https://www.adomonline.com/tension-mounts-in-fanteakwa-north-as-ndc-members-demand-dces-removal/ Wed, 20 May 2026 09:00:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663918 Tensions are mounting in Akyem Begoro in the Fanteakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region as some aggrieved members and grassroots executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are calling for the removal of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Osman Abubakar, over allegations of misconduct.

The party members accuse the DCE of neglecting communities in NDC strongholds, particularly in relation to poor road conditions and what they describe as the exclusion of party executives from key decisions and development planning.

At a press conference, the Fanteakwa North Constituency Chairman, John Amoafo, raised concerns over what he described as worsening infrastructure and sanitation challenges in the area.

According to him, the poor state of roads has made movement difficult for residents and continues to affect local economic activities. He further alleged that party executives are often sidelined in decision-making processes, including issues relating to development projects.

He also raised concerns over the siting of the proposed 27-hour economy market, saying the decision has caused dissatisfaction among local chiefs and party members.

On the other hand, the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa North, Osman Abubakar, has dismissed the allegations, insisting that he engages all relevant stakeholders before taking decisions.

He explained that the location for the proposed 27-hour economy market was revised by project consultants due to concerns about accessibility and poor telecommunications coverage in the original area.

Mr. Abubakar urged party members to remain calm, assuring them of his commitment to the development of the district.

The affected executives, estimated at about 180, allege that the process was deliberately skewed against them and politically motivated. They claim they are being unfairly blocked from participating and are calling on party leadership to intervene immediately.

According to them, the situation raises concerns about fairness and internal democracy within the party, warning that failure to address it could deepen divisions at the grassroots level.

The group is urging the national leadership of the NPP to step in and ensure a transparent and credible process across all polling stations.

The convener of the group, David Ofori Koranteng, has also appealed to the Eastern Regional executives, national leadership, and the Flagbearer-elect, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to intervene in the matter.

He alleged that their nomination forms were deliberately hidden during the filing process, which led to their exclusion from the album. According to him, some constituency executives orchestrated the move to favour preferred candidates.

The meetings, held together with members of his campaign team, formed part of what his camp describes as ongoing stakeholder engagements as Chairman Wontumi positions himself to contest for the National Chairman position of the NPP once nominations are officially opened.

Speaking during the engagements, Chairman Wontumi expressed gratitude to the two party leaders for what he described as their sacrifices and commitment towards rebuilding the NPP after the 2024 general elections.

“Our focus is to help rebuild and reposition the party strongly for victory in 2028,” he stated, while reaffirming his loyalty to the NPP and commitment to strengthening its grassroots structures.

Chairman Wontumi also formally informed both leaders of his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position, insisting that his ambition is “rooted in service, unity, grassroots mobilisation and the collective rebuilding of the party.”

According to him, his campaign will remain “disciplined, respectful and issue-based,” adding that it would not be characterised by personal attacks, intimidation or actions capable of creating division within the party.

He stressed that rebuilding the party’s grassroots machinery would be crucial to the NPP’s chances of recapturing power in the 2028 general elections.

“There is the need for collective leadership, inclusiveness, reconciliation and healing within the party because the NPP belongs to all its members and stakeholders,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi and his team also used the opportunity to seek the prayers, guidance and goodwill of the two leaders as the party prepares for its internal electoral processes.

The engagements, according to his campaign team, are part of a broader nationwide effort aimed at promoting unity, inclusiveness and grassroots reorganisation within the NPP ahead of the next elections.

The chaos reportedly erupted during the electoral process amid allegations of manipulation, intimidation and breaches of electoral procedures.

Eyewitnesses say machetes were used during the confrontation, while warning shots were allegedly fired to disperse agitated party supporters.

Some disgruntled party members accused the Member of Parliament for the area, Nana Agyemang Prempeh, of influencing the electoral album and allegedly ensuring that only his supporters were allowed to participate in the voting exercise.

Addressing the media after the incident, the aggrieved members called on the national, regional and constituency leadership of the NPP to immediately intervene to restore calm and credibility to the process.

According to them, the elections should be suspended until concerns surrounding transparency and fairness are fully addressed.

The group further alleged that electoral guidelines were flouted during the exercise, claiming the official voter album was not properly used.

They also accused organizers of allowing nursing training students and students from Tepa Senior High School to vote without adequate verification.

In addition, the dissatisfied members alleged that some individuals believed to be sympathizers of the opposition National Democratic Congress were permitted to take part in the election.

They warned that the developments could negatively affect the party’s image and weaken grassroots confidence in the constituency if urgent steps are not taken to resolve the matter.

The members also appealed to the party leadership to ensure peace, fairness and due process in the conduct of internal elections, while urging constituency executives and the MP to refrain from allegedly using “macho men” to intimidate party faithful.

Meanwhile, security presence in parts of Tepa was heightened following the disturbances as tensions among supporters remained high.

The aggrieved delegates, numbering about 77 from ten polling stations in Kwahu Obo, say they are unhappy with how the election arrangements have been handled by party executives.

Speaking at a press conference held at Obo, the delegates claimed they were not adequately informed about the upcoming elections and only became aware of the exercise at the last minute.

According to them, the late communication has left many delegates unprepared ahead of the polls.

They further alleged that several delegates are not even familiar with the contestants contesting in the election due to what they described as poor dissemination of information by party leadership.

The group expressed concern that the situation could undermine participation and affect the credibility and fairness of the election if immediate action is not taken.

The delegates are therefore calling on the Eastern Regional Executives of the party to intervene and ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process to preserve peace and unity within the constituency.

The appointment, announced in the party’s newly released committee composition document, places Akosua Manu among key figures tasked with shaping and communicating the NPP’s policy direction on gender, social welfare, inclusion, and vulnerable groups.

The Gender and Social Protection Committee is co-chaired by Member of Parliament Adelia Ntim and Dr. Susana Alo, with Grace Akosua Amoabeng serving alongside Akosua Manu as spokespersons. Ama Nequaye Tetteh has also been named Secretary to the committee.

2028 election: Global InfoAnalytics poll projects Ato Forson ahead of Bawumia, Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/2028-election-global-infoanalytics-poll-projects-ato-forson-ahead-of-bawumia-asiedu-nketia/ Tue, 05 May 2026 09:43:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2658679 A new Global InfoAnalytics poll has placed Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson well ahead of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a simulated 2028 presidential race.

The March 2026 tracking survey indicates that Dr Forson would secure 55% of the vote in a multi-candidate contest, compared to 37% for Dr Bawumia, representing an 18-point lead.

The margin is wider than what was recorded in the 2024 general elections and also surpasses the performance of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Lead pollster Mussa Dankwah said the results point to the continued strength of the NDC among its core supporters.

He also noted that voting patterns among those who did not participate in the 2024 elections could further complicate the NPP’s prospects.

“The data reflects the NDC’s dominance with its core support, while absentee voter patterns present additional risks for the NPP beyond the headline numbers,” he said.

In a separate head-to-head scenario, Mr Asiedu Nketia also leads Dr Bawumia, polling 51% to 39%, giving him a 12-point advantage. However, that gap is narrower than Dr Forson’s lead in the same survey.

Overall, the findings suggest both leading NDC figures are currently ahead of the NPP’s expected flagbearer by what analysts describe as comfortable margins at this stage of the political cycle.

For context, President John Mahama defeated Dr Bawumia in the 2024 elections by 15 percentage points, winning 56% of the vote to Bawumia’s 41%. The latest projections suggest Dr Forson would exceed that margin if a similar contest were held today, while Mr Asiedu Nketia would come close but fall slightly short.

Other candidates in the 2024 race recorded minimal support in the simulation. Alan Kyerematen, running as an independent under the Movement for Change, polled 3% in the Forson scenario and 4% in the Asiedu Nketia matchup. Nana Kwame Bediako followed with 2% and 3% respectively.

The poll is part of Global Info Analytics’ ongoing national tracking series, which has consistently ranked Dr Forson and Mr Asiedu Nketia as strong contenders within the NDC, although the party is yet to open nominations for its 2028 primaries.

Dr Bawumia, who led the NPP in 2024, is widely expected to represent the party again in 2028.

According to Mr. Ibrahim, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Banda, the NDC has a strong pool of capable leaders being groomed within government.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, he argued that the current administration is deliberately building a legacy that extends beyond President Mahama’s tenure.

“It is because of the work President Mahama is doing, that is why he wants to leave a legacy, so his party remains in power,” he stated.

He further suggested that President Mahama’s influence is likely to extend beyond Ghana after his tenure in office.

“He will be a continental president; he will go into the highest realm outside Ghana,” he said, suggesting the President could take up a significant international role.

Ahmed Ibrahim pointed to a decline in Ghana’s representation on the global stage, referencing figures such as Kofi Annan and Mohamed Ibn Chambas.

“After Ibn Chambas, Kofi Annan, Alex Kweku (Kwetey) and the rest, we don’t have a lot of Ghanaians at the international front,” he noted, adding, “It is recently that Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey went to the Commonwealth.”

He believes President Mahama could soon join that league of internationally recognised Ghanaian statesmen.

Drawing an analogy, he said: “When we were in school and used to go for interco, you may see someone and think he will be the best jumper, but he ends up disappointing. The real jumpers will cross the mark.”

He insisted that within the current government, there are several individuals capable of stepping up, stressing that the NDC is well-positioned for the future.

“So, choosing Mahama’s successor will not be difficult. The kind of leadership we have at Cabinet and the training he is giving us, we have a pool of people to succeed him,” he stressed.

A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics showed that NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia continues to lead in what is described as a “top-of-the-mind” baseline assessment of potential candidates.

Asiedu Nketia secured 29% support, followed by Finance Minister and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam MP Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson with 19%, while Tamale South MP and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu garnered 11%.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang each recorded 8% in the survey.
