The newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, believes God deliberately brought him into the party’s leadership at a time when it is in opposition to help “take the party out of slavery.”
COKA said his defeat in the previous regional chairmanship contest, when the NPP was in government, was part of God’s plan to prepare him for his current responsibility.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said although he contested the position during the NPP’s time in government and lost, he remained patient and trusted God’s timing.
“In this work we are doing, God has the perfect time to bring everyone. I contested the last time when NPP was in power, but I lost. God told me to be patient and has brought me in a time we are in opposition to take the party out of slavery,” he said.
COKA drew parallels between his political journey and the biblical accounts of David and Solomon, saying different people could be called to leadership at different stages to fulfil specific purposes.
“Look at David and Solomon at the time they all became king. David fought a lot of battles and reclaimed lands but wasn’t the one who built the temple of the Lord. It was his son Solomon, but David did a lot of things,” he said.
According to him, the biblical story demonstrates that leadership and responsibility come at different times and that everyone has a role to play when their moment arrives.
“So that tells you how God works, and I believe this is the time God in his wisdom wants me to be NPP chairman,” he added.
COKA expressed confidence that his tenure would help reposition the NPP in the Ashanti Region and contribute to the party’s efforts to return to power in the 2028 general elections.
