Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have staged a peaceful demonstration to demand the immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.

The protest, organised by the Dome-Kwabenya–Kitase Road Stakeholders Committee, seeks to draw attention to the poor condition of the road and the impact it has had on residents, commuters, transport operators and businesses in the affected communities.

The demonstrators said the deteriorating road had made movement difficult and disrupted economic activities in the area.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 17, some protesters said they had engaged the relevant authorities on several occasions but had seen little progress, prompting them to take to the streets.

One demonstrator said the condition of the road had become a major concern for residents and appealed to the government to intervene.

“This road is a huge problem for us. It makes our movement very difficult and disruptive. We are pleading with the government to work on our roads for us,” the protester said.

Another demonstrator stressed that the protest was peaceful and intended to push the authorities to act.

“This is a peaceful demonstration for our roads to be fixed. The road has not been fixed in 20 years. We need our roads to be fixed,” the protester said.

The residents also expressed concern about the health effects of the poor road conditions, particularly the dust generated by vehicles using the route.

They are therefore calling on the government and relevant authorities to prioritise the rehabilitation and completion of the road to improve transportation, living conditions and business activities in the affected communities.
