Staff of the Adansi North Health Directorate in the Ashanti Region have embarked on a sit-down strike over what they describe as an alleged encroachment on the Directorate’s land.
The workers, dressed in black and red, staged the protest to express their displeasure over claims that a private developer has taken over part of the health facility’s land to undertake a hotel project.
Speaking to Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the Adansi North District Health Promotion Officer, Eric Karkari, said the Directorate was informed through a letter from traditional leaders that a portion of the land had been leased to a private developer.
According to him, the developer has already commenced work on the site, raising concerns about the potential impact on the operations of the health facility.
Mr Karkari said the alleged encroachment poses risks to staff and clients, prompting the workers to embark on the sit-down strike.
He warned that the workers would maintain their action if authorities failed to address their concerns.
Meanwhile, the Adansi North District Presiding Member, Akwasi Afoakwah, has acknowledged the concerns raised by the health workers.
He assured the staff that the matter would be taken up with the relevant authorities to help resolve the dispute and restore normal operations at the facility.
