The Konor and President of the Agotime Traditional Council, Nene Nuer Keteku IV, has appealed to the government to prioritise the completion of the Agenda 111 District Hospital at Kpetoe in the Agotime area of the Volta Region.

He said the lack of a fully equipped district hospital continues to force residents to travel more than 30 kilometres to Ho to access basic healthcare.

Nene Nuer Keteku IV made the appeal during the 31st Agotime Kente Festival, held under the theme, “Agotime Kente: Honouring Our Heritage, Safeguarding Our Future.”

He urged the government to prioritise the completion of the Kpetoe District Hospital under the Agenda 111 programme, describing the facility as an essential service rather than a luxury.

The traditional ruler also drew attention to the persistent water shortage in Kpetoe, saying residents are often forced to depend on untreated sources, including the Tordzie River.

He said the situation places a heavy burden on families, particularly women and children who spend considerable time searching for water.

Nene Nuer Keteku IV further appealed for infrastructure support for Agotime Senior High School, especially the reconstruction of its dilapidated administrative block, which he said poses a safety risk to staff and students.

He called for the school to be included in the government’s planned infrastructure expansion programme aimed at addressing the double-track system and improving teaching and learning conditions.

On the preservation of Agotime’s rich kente heritage, the Konor announced plans to establish a Kente Village and Centre of Excellence.

He said the initiative would promote artisan training, cultural research and the preservation of traditional kente weaving, while creating employment opportunities and supporting economic development in the area.

He acknowledged the support of the Bank of Ghana for the project and appealed to other development partners to join efforts to complete the facility.

Nene Nuer Keteku IV also called on the presidency to source authentic Kente directly from Agotime as official gifts for visiting foreign dignitaries, saying the move would promote local craftsmanship and place Agotime Kente on the global stage.

He stressed that culture, healthcare, education, water, and infrastructure were interconnected priorities that must be addressed to secure a sustainable future for the people of Agotime.

The Konor urged the government and development partners to support the community in protecting its cultural heritage while providing the basic infrastructure needed to improve the quality of life of its people.
