The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has seized 50,000 rounds of AA cartridges in the Upper West Region as part of efforts to curb the illegal possession and movement of arms and ammunition in Ghana.
NACSA Executive Secretary, Dr Adam Bonaa, disclosed that all persons allegedly linked to the illegal consignment have been arrested and are facing legal action.
He made this known during a three-day training programme for National Focal Points on the Exemption Procedure to the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The training brought together personnel from various security agencies to strengthen their understanding of procedures governing the movement of weapons within and among ECOWAS member states.
It is also aimed at equipping security personnel with the knowledge and skills required to implement ECOWAS exemption procedures for the purchase, transfer and movement of arms and ammunition.
Dr Bonaa urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities involving weapons or ammunition to NACSA or the appropriate security agencies.
He assured the public that information provided to help detect and seize illegal weapons would be treated seriously.
He further disclosed that individuals whose information leads to the detection and seizure of illegal weapons could be rewarded.
