Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Awentami Afoko is expected at the party’s Accra headquarters on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to submit his completed nomination forms for the National Chairmanship race.
The filing is a formal step in his bid and comes within the party’s extended nomination window. It does not mark his entry into the contest, as Afoko publicly declared his candidacy in July 2026 and picked up his nomination forms when the collection period opened on August 18.
Tuesday’s filing will complete the next stage of the nomination process ahead of the deadline. The NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee has extended the filing deadline from August 27 to August 29 following significant interest from aspirants seeking various national positions.
Afoko is not running unopposed. His campaign is centred on his “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture — through which he argues that the party must first heal its internal divisions and rebuild its structures before mounting a serious campaign to reclaim the presidency in 2028.
Since announcing his candidacy, Afoko has engaged delegates and grassroots supporters across several regions, presenting his campaign as one focused on reconciliation, unity and strengthening the party ahead of its 2028 return-to-power bid following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
His filing on Tuesday will formally place him on the path through the remaining stages of the NPP’s national officer election calendar.
Vetting is scheduled for August 31 to September 3, with results expected on September 5. Appeals will be heard on September 6 and 7, while delegates are scheduled to vote on October 3, 2026.
