The campaign of former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has thrown its weight behind John Boadu in the race for the National Chairmanship.
The decision marks the end of the Wontumi campaign’s independent bid, with its grassroots structures and organisational network now set to support Mr Boadu’s candidature.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by the Administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, Dennis Okyere Danso, who said the move followed consultations with party grassroots, elders and other stakeholders.
According to him, the campaign’s decision was also influenced by a September 4 visit to Chairman Wontumi at Nsawam.
Mr Danso said the alliance would bring together Mr Wontumi’s strong grassroots mobilisation network and Mr Boadu’s experience in managing the party’s administrative structures.
“The Wontumi Campaign has taken the decision to close ranks and throw its full weight, organisational capacity and grassroots machinery behind Mr John Boadu for the position of National Chairman,” he said.
He said the alliance was not merely about advancing the interests of the two political camps but was aimed at rebuilding unity within the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“This is bigger than two campaigns. It is about putting the party above individual interests and ensuring that the NPP emerges stronger, more united and better organised,” he stated.
Mr Danso urged members of the Wontumi campaign across the regions, constituencies and polling stations to redirect their mobilisation efforts towards Mr Boadu.
He also called on supporters and volunteers to regard the endorsement as a collective responsibility and actively support Mr Boadu’s campaign.
According to him, the partnership is expected to bridge grassroots mobilisation with institutional party management and strengthen the NPP’s organisational base.
He further appealed to all candidates and their supporters to conduct the internal contest peacefully, stressing the need for “unity without bitterness.”
Mr Danso cautioned against insults, intimidation and personal attacks, saying the internal elections should not leave lasting divisions within the party.
He said the ultimate goal of the alliance was to consolidate the NPP’s support base, restore confidence among members and position the party to regain power in 2028 under the leadership of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
