Ghana captain Jordan Ayew says he had no hesitation in joining Sheffield United after completing a one-year deal with the Championship club.
The 34-year-old forward signed as a free agent after leaving Leicester City when his contract expired at the end of last season.
Speaking to the club’s media, Ayew said Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder and the club’s hierarchy worked hard to secure his signature, convincing him to accept the offer immediately.
“I’m really, really pleased to be here,” Ayew said. “The manager and the club made a great effort to get me here as quickly as possible, so I want to thank everyone for bringing me over to the Blades.”
The former Crystal Palace and Swansea City forward said the move reminded him of his time at Palace and that he was eager to settle into his new surroundings.
“It happened really, really quickly because I was in Ghana and the manager called me last week,” he said.
“I didn’t think twice. I just took the opportunity. The most important thing is for me to help the team and for us to have a great season.”
Ayew added that he was determined to make an impact, believing Sheffield United have the quality to enjoy a successful campaign.
The experienced striker arrives with more than 500 senior appearances to his name, having played for Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City during his career.
