Multimedia Group forms historic alliance to project Hogbetsotso Festival on global stage https://www.adomonline.com/multimedia-group-forms-historic-alliance-to-project-hogbetsotso-festival-on-global-stage/ Fri, 29 Aug 2025 11:56:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572581 Ghana’s cultural calendar is set for a landmark shift as the Multimedia Group, the nation’s largest media conglomerate, partners with the Anlo Traditional Council to champion the 2025 Hogbetsotso Festival.

The strategic alliance is being hailed as a cultural breakthrough that will project one of Ghana’s oldest traditional festivals beyond its regional roots into a national and global showcase.

The announcement followed a high-level meeting at the Multimedia Group offices in Accra between executives of the media house, led by Mr. Fifi Koomson, General Manager for Joy Brands, and the Hogbetsotso Festival Planning Committee, chaired by Mr. Ken Edzordzinam Kpedor.

The partnership, though awaiting the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has already set in motion a comprehensive plan to ensure the festival receives unprecedented coverage across radio, television, and digital platforms.

A cultural heritage meets modern media

At the heart of this partnership is a powerful symbolism: Ghana’s most influential media network lending its reach to retell the migration story of the Anlo people — a centuries-old heritage of resilience and settlement — through the lens of modern media.

“The Volta Region is a great region that must be publicized,” Mr. Koomson affirmed, adding that the Multimedia Group is committed to covering every stage of the festival from its launch to the grand durbar. “We believe in showcasing the richness of our cultural identity and positioning Hogbetsotso as a celebration of national unity.”

Early planning, stronger collaboration

Sales Manager for Adom Brands, Mr. Bright Kove, noted that early engagement this year has laid the foundation for stronger collaboration compared to previous years. He disclosed that Multimedia’s existing partnerships with Guinness Brewery and growing interest from Ecobank provide an additional boost for sponsorship, making the 2025 edition one of the most promising yet.

“This year things are taking shape early for a better partnership,” Mr. Kove said. “We are confident that the collaboration will make the festival more vibrant, exciting, and far-reaching.”

A comprehensive media blitz

To deliver on its promise, the Multimedia Group’s Media and Publicity Committee, chaired by Dr. Mrs. Mary Ayim Segbefia, has unveiled the Multimedia Ghana Media Support Plan for the Launch of Hogbe 2025, under the theme “Building Bridges: From a Common History to a Common Destiny.”

The plan outlines a four-day media blitz beginning on Wednesday, August 27, ahead of the official launch on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Ohawu Agricultural College. The coverage will include:

  • Live Presenter Mentions (LPMs): Across Joy FM, Adom FM, Joy Prime, and Adom TV.

  • Festival Jingles: Running on Joy FM, Hitz FM, and Adom FM.

  • Special Features: Historical explorations on the Joy News AM Show, tourism and economic discussions on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, and a national unity dialogue on the Joy FM Super Morning Show.

  • Digital & Social Media Drive: Livestreams via Joy Prime Facebook, MyJoyOnline, and hashtags #Hogbe2025, #AnloHeritage, and #BuildingBridges.

The strategy aims not only to build nationwide anticipation but also to extend Hogbetsotso’s reach to the Ghanaian diaspora and global cultural enthusiasts.

Regional significance, national impact

Planning Committee Chairman, Mr. Ken Edzordzinam Kpedor, stressed that the people of the Volta Region have long valued the Multimedia Group, whose vast listenership makes the alliance both strategic and natural. He highlighted this year’s program, including a special mini Hogbe ceremony in Adidome, Central Tongu District, underscoring the festival’s regional inclusiveness.

“The people of the Volta Region love the Multimedia Group, and this partnership ensures that Hogbetsotso will no longer be just a regional festival — it will be a national and international brand,” Mr. Kpedor said.

Preserving heritage, inspiring the future

The Hogbetsotso Festival commemorates the migration of the Anlo people and their settlement in their present homeland — a living testament to resilience, unity, and cultural pride. With Multimedia Group’s involvement, the 2025 edition promises to merge authenticity with modern reach, turning the celebration into a platform that preserves history while inspiring future generations.

What began centuries ago as a commemoration of migration will now, through the power of media, be retold to millions worldwide. The 2025 Hogbetsotso Festival is set to be more than an event; it will be a cultural moment that bridges Ghana’s past with its future.

Pharmacy Council vrs Daniel Owusu Koranteng and Multimedia: Court allows case to travel natural course https://www.adomonline.com/pharmacy-council-vrs-daniel-owusu-koranteng-and-multimedia-court-allows-case-to-travel-natural-course/ Fri, 21 Mar 2025 16:53:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2517616

An Accra High Court has ruled to allow the continuation of the case in which the Pharmacy Council is seeking to perpetually injunct the premiering of a hotline documentary on JoyNews, to run its natural course.

The documentary ‘Drug Store License For Sale’ produced by troubled undercover investigative journalist Daniel Owusu Koranteng, put the spotlight on the issuance of licenses for the operationalization of over-the-counter medication shops, without due process.

Lawyers for Daniel Owusu Koranteng had earlier filed a motion to strike out the suit before the court, but when the court reconvened Friday morning, lead Counsel for the undercover journalist, Kofi Essel, waived his right to challenge an affidavit in opposition filed by lawyers for the Pharmacy Council.

Today’s brief court proceedings now paves the way for the Plaintiff (The Pharmacy Council), to file their reply within two weeks, followed by an application for direction.

When these requirements are met, witness statements will then be filed by the parties involved, after which the matter will go on trial.

The expose which was billed to premiere in May 2023, exposed how some officials demand as much as 15,000 with the promise of helping prospective clients secure over-the-counter licenses.

According to the Plaintiff (Pharmacy Council), apart from one staff member, an inspecting Pharmacist of the Pharmacy Council who was captured on video, all the other persons alleged to have been involved or complicit in the alleged issuance of licences without due process are not staff of the Plaintiff.

Premiering or airing of the video without stating the full facts of the Plaintiff’s findings according to the statement of claim, will be unfair and irreparably damage the reputation of the Pharmacy Council, thus asking the court to perpetually injunct the producer of the documentary and the Multimedia Group Limited from airing same.

The Pharmacy Council among other demands, wants a declaration by the court that the recording of the communication between Daniel Owusu Koranteng and the registrar of the Pharmacy Council without the consent of the registrar is in breach of Article 18(2) of the 1992 constitution.

Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the first defendant in this case is currently on remand following his arraignment by Prosecutors who have slapped him with a provisional murder charge in the assassination case of another undercover journalist Ahmed Suale.

His lawyer in the Ahmed Suale assassination case, Kofi Essel, who represented him in court today on this civil matter, said the production and subsequent premiering attempt of the documentary by Daniel Owusu Koranteng is proof that his client is innocent of the murder charge put on him by prosecutors.

In an interview after the proceedings, Kofi Essel said contrary to the “shambolic” charge by Prosecutors in the provisional charge sheet that his client fled the jurisdiction after the assassination of Ahmed Suale, Daniel Owusu Koranteng has not only been in Ghana, but has been practicing his craft as an investigative journalist.

He says his client is being “witch hunted” and called on the state to be wary of persons who may be pushing for the unjustifiable prosecution of his client because his style of journalism makes them “uncomfortable.”

Multimedia Group, CEO sues Kennedy Agyapong, six others https://www.adomonline.com/multimedia-group-ceo-sues-kennedy-agyapong-six-others/ Wed, 01 Sep 2021 09:34:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2008887 The Multimedia Group is heading to court over false and defamatory statements made by the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong.

The MP in July 2021, made allegations that sought to portray the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kwasi Twum, Joy FM, and the organisation at large as unethical, unprofessional, and criminal.

This was on his media platforms and was widely circulated by two online portals but attracted caution from the company’s lawyers.

“In the month of July 2021 the MP for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, made and repeated false and defamatory statements on his media platforms spurning caution issued by our lawyers on 13th July 2021,” parts of the statement read.

A statement issued by MGL’s Management said the decision, therefore, to sue is to offer the MP the opportunity to present his evidence of the claims in court.

“Joy FM, The Multimedia Group, and the Chief Executive Officer, Kwasi Twum have been compelled and have taken a firm decision to afford the MP, his media organisation, and three (3) of his employees, the opportunity to prove the allegations in court.

“The two other online publications that “circulated the outright falsehoods without care or any attempt to verify the allegations” are also joined to the suit,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, as part of the company’s evidence, the broadcasts and publications as well as associated defamatory commentary have been carefully and meticulously gathered and formally transcribed and translated.

The media conglomerate’s Kumasi subsidiary, Luv FM has reported the legislator to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for threatening its reporter, Erastus Asare Donkor.

Kennedy Agyapong, while speaking on a programme dubbed ‘The Attitude’ on Net 2 television, a television channel owned by him, called for “serious” beatings of Erastus Asare Donkor due to his reportage on the violence at Ejura in the Ashanti region.

He was quoted to have threatened that if he were the President of Ghana, he would have ensured that Erastus Asare Donkor is beaten mercilessly.

Management of Luv FM and for that matter, the Multimedia Group says it takes a serious view of the conduct of the Assin Central MP, especially when a similar pronouncement by him had preceded the murder of Tiger Eye investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

The station’s complaint which was signed by Luv and Nhyira FM General Manager, James Aglah and countersigned by News Editor Kofi Adu Donfeh, was copied to 14 other local and international bodies.

I had to choose BBC over Joy at a point in my life – Samson Lardy Anyenini https://www.adomonline.com/i-had-to-choose-bbc-over-joy-at-a-point-in-my-life-samson-lardy-anyenini/ Sat, 21 Nov 2020 12:18:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1883480 Award-winning Multimedia Journalist, Samson Lardy Anyenini, says in the early years of his career, he had to turn down an opportunity to work with Joy News to pick up an offer with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

He explained that taking up the offer of working with Joy News would have meant leaving Kumasi in the Ashanti Region for Accra.

According to him, he couldn’t risk it because he was taking his Law degree programme at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

“There was no motivation to move,” he said.

The University of Ghana graduate disclosed that at the time JoyNews offered him employment, he was juggling his National Service obligation with Multimedia’s Luv Fm in Kumasi alongside his Law degree classes and a job with the BBC.

For Samson Lardy Anyenini there was too much at stake for him to just up and leave.

“Being fortunate to do my work at Luv FM, and working with the BBC, I quickly had enough to have my way to study Law, I had to move in-between work and school,” he said.

RELATED:

Speaking to Joy News’ Aisha Ibrahim on PM Express Personality Profile, Mr Anyenini disclosed that he had put off studying Law once and he was not going to let that happen again.

For him, finding himself in Kumasi was the best thing that happened to him.

“While at Luv FM because I was set out to be a Lawyer I would go to law school during the day at KNUST. I joined them during the 2004/2005 academic year,” he said.

The legal practitioner, however, said in the pursuit of Law and media, he had to finally move to Accra to re-establish himself.

Samson Lardy Anyenini is currently the host of Newsfile on JoyNews with an established law firm to his name.

Receptionist-Turned-Sales Manager: The 20-year journey story of Multimedia’s Flora Lamptey [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/receptionist-turned-sales-manager-the-20-year-journey-story-of-multimedias-flora-lamptey-audio/ Mon, 13 Jul 2020 13:29:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1826250 “People have always asked me; why are you still with the Multimedia Group after all these years, can’t you change your job? My reply to them, as always, has been: my life is not just about changing jobs but rather, ‘fulfilment’, which I find at Multimedia.”

These were the words of Flora Lamptey, popularly known within the Multimedia Group’s fraternity as Mama Flo, as she took clients, as she sat with adomonline.com to give account of her 20-year journey with the Multimedia Group.

Madam Flora Lamptey is a vibrant and hardworking mother-of-three and the wife to Dr Kobina Darko-Annan.

She started her Multimedia journey as a receptionist who rose through the ranks to the current position of a Sales and Marketing Manager in charge of Adom FM, Adom TV and Asempa FM.

To catalogue her experience and lead all of us into her impeccable 20-year journey, she sat for an exclusive interview with Ghana’s most comprehensive online portal, Adomonline.com.

Mama Flow has attributed her journey so far to the Biblical principles taught her by her late grandmother, which she said had helped in shaping her life.

“I have come this far with the help of my grandmother, Dora Reindorlf of blessed memory. She nurtured me with biblical principles.

Flora Lamptey, one of the key people who birthed Adom Praiz

“She was my mentor and the single most influential person in my life when growing up. My grandmother made it her mission to teach me the Bible every single day,” she recounted.

Speaking on her career choice, Aunty Flora who has gained the admiration of many through her hard work and dedicated service to MGL, disclosed it was always her dream to be an Air Hostess.

However, she ended up as a secretary at Toms Telecom, a business communication centre at Darkuman as it was called back in the days.

“I bet if you were born after the nineties, you cannot relate with what a communication centre was; don’t get offended my Millennia babies. Hahaha that was just by the way,” she joked amid her usual broad smiles.

Flora was with Toms until she heard of a vacancy for a secretaryship position at the then Osu-based Groove FM where she was offered a job as the secretary to the CEO, Liberette Hesse.

Unfortunately, just a year into Groove FM’s operation, Flora will learn of a news that shook her: the station was being sold to the owner of Joy FM and was going to be renamed as Adom FM with workers’ lay-off staring her and other colleagues in the face.

“It was a tough and difficult time for us since we did not know our fate and it happened that myself and three others; Bosco Ocansey, Victor Senaya and Ken Addy were employed to work with Multimedia and that was how the journey started,” an elated Flora said.

To cut the long story short, Flora said she became the first receptionist for Adom FM which was then based in Tema Community 2 but had to make another tough decision as chunks of receptionists were laid off at a point in time.

Despite not being on the company’s payroll after the layoffs, Madam Lamptey, through the advice of a colleague opted to work at the Sales Department of MGL, a designation she noted was preferable to being unemployed.

“I just had to adapt and learn on the job till I went to GIMPA for my Marketing degree programme and MSC in Project Management,” she said.

After successfully completing her programmes at GIMPA, she was given the opportunity to market Adom FM to some potential clients, a task she said wasn’t an easy.

“God being so good, I had very supportive colleagues and managers but there was still a much bigger problem to be dealt with: Adom FM’s coverage was just within Tema, Ashaiman and its environs so how then do I market the station to someone in Accra,” she asked.

In spite of the challenge, Flora said she managed to get a few organisations who believed in her and the Adom FM brand to spend with Adom FM.

Flora remembers her first major client vividly and it was the company behind the production of Angel and Goodnight mosquito coils.

On her immediate family’s contribution to her rise, Flora acknowledged that her husband and kids have always been supportive over the years.

But, apart from her immediate family, Flora was full pf praise to the Chief Executive Officer of the Multimedia Group Limited, Mr Kwasi Twum who she affectionately calls KT as all others at Multimedia do, recognising him as a strong pillar in her life.

“The attitude of managers and colleagues over the years discouraged me and at a point in time, I made up my mind to quit the job. And although he [KT] asked me about it, I could not open up on the issues but he somehow got the then Chief HR, Jane Gyekye to resolve the issues. In all, I don’t regret having stayed at MGL,” she said happily.

“The work has been challenging but that’s what makes it fun and keeps some of us going; we set targets and when these targets are achieved, there is this bundle of joy.

Flora Lamptey poses with her Adom Kolor party wig

“There has been a lot of pressure from the job, especially when I was appointed Sales Manager for Adom FM, Asempa FM and Adom TV.

“It was quite easy just handling Adom FM and I had a solid team I worked with; we were called the sales force. They were two key people who were my lieutenants and we did exceedingly great.”

“Michael Enoku took care of Asempa, Fritz Kanyagui, Oswin Adjei Kwakye all served as Assistant Sales Managers and Mordecai Quarshie as Head of Sales for Adom and the Entertainment cluster who gave me the room to operate and at a point was adjudged the Best Sales Dealer,” she lauded.

“I never thought I could stay for 20 years but I believe my passion and love for the job has kept me. A lot has changed and I haven’t been doing the same thing; there’s been different roles, functions and increased responsibilities as I rose through the ranks,” she explained.

Mama Flo, among other things, also prides herself in being one of the brains behind Adom FM’s flagship programme, Adom Praiz which has been an avenue for believers to worship God since a decade and and more ago and still counting.

“The initial plan was to have a 3-day-programme to give people the platform and avenue to worship and praise God but it finally became a day’s programme and today it’s one of the most important programmes on the station’s calendar,” she said proudly.

“I have never wasted my 20 years as there was something to conquer each year and I have no regrets because I focus on and love what I do.”

“It has been about fulfillment and there was this recognition that I have been a loyal worker who puts integrity high, even though some managers doubted my loyalty [at apoint] but I never paid attention to them and I delivered as expected,” she bragged.

“I say a big thank you to Prof Samson Praku of Samara Company Limited, producers of Sasso, Fekko and Roma sprays; and End Point Homoeopathic Clinic, Dr Adu Boateng who have been with us from the beginning, Osons Chemist’s Mr Akwasi Osei Assibey, my client for over 15 years.

“Mr William Addo of Borges, Chief Marketing Officer of Multimedia, Ekyi Quram, CVD [Charles Vandyk], another great personality, Mr Nuamah Eshun Fameye, Head of Marketing at Kinapharma, Mr Ken Ashigbey  and Mrs Theodora Okine for believing in me and providing me with the needed training and mentorship.

“Last but not least, my father, Mr Lucky Lamptey, who was a salesman with GNTC until he became a marketing manager.

“He has been my mentor who always makes sure I’m on track, reprimands me when he has to and commends me when necessary.

“Finally, I will urge up-and-coming employees not to despise their small beginnings but always endeavour to grab every opportunity that comes their way”.

Many people have joined in celebrating Madam Flora Lamptey including the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Jospong Group Ltd, Mrs Sophia Lissah.

For those of us at Multimedia, we can only say Ayekoo; we hope and pray we enjoy more years of your dedicated service. God bless you.

Resignations at Multimedia: The snake has been found but… https://www.adomonline.com/resignations-at-multimedia-the-snake-has-been-found-but/ Mon, 08 Jun 2020 13:54:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1807518 Imoro Saani is of Northern Ghana extraction. He took advantage of Ghana’s almost-free education system in the northern parts of Ghana in the immediate post-colonial era to become one of the best corporate lawyers Ghana could boast of at the time.

In fact, the records show that hiring Mr. Saani for a commercial litigation at the time was a victory in itself, as he had a 100% win rate in court.

As a consequence, he became very rich and powerful in society.

Mr Saani had love for all manner of pets – including a snake he acquired on one of his many foreign travels.

But, as Mr Saani’s stature soared in society, rumour soared in equal measure about the source of his success.

It wasn’t a common sight to see many successful people of Mr Imoro’s extraction, especially during the early post-colonial days becoming that successful and wealthy hence in the minds of many, there must be something that made him so successful. A deity? Perhaps “money medicine”.

Therefore, as he became more and more successful, career and wealth wise, whispers about him doing so through some mysterious deity he allegedly kept grew louder.

On this particular day, Mr Imoro’s snake had slithered its way out of its holding area and not even a frantic search for the pet that morning by Mr Saani and his children could lead them to find the whereabouts of the beautiful pet.

Snakes are by their nature creatures that enjoy warmth; therefore, when Mr Saani’s pet snake slid out of its cage, it found solace in the engine compartment of his car which was parked in his garage.

Unknown to his household, the pet snake had coiled around a belt in the engine of the car, a place it found more enjoyable than its artificial home created for it by the Saani family.

On that fateful morning as the barrister drove to work, he noticed something quite unusual with the engine of his car; but, he managed to drive it to work.

By the time he arrived at his office’s parking lot, the car engine had almost ceased so he summoned his mechanic who – upon opening the vehicle bonnet – found the pet snake coiled around a compartment in the engine.

The pet, even though found, had died.

Mr Saani, who had so much love for, and emotional attachment to, his pets including this snake that had died, was almost in tears for losing his pet.

But, his tears only reinforced one thing – the people’s perception of his ‘mysterious powers’ that had combined to make him so successful and powerful.

The whispers grew louder and louder and, for many years, he has had to live with the pain of losing a pet snake and a wicked public perception of him being a deity worshiper or a money ritualist.

Mr Saani’s story is that of a wicked coincidence that he could hardly ever explain to anyone.

The Saani story of how coincidence could meet public perception at a time of human or organizational life can be likened to the Multimedia story of recent days.

The Multimedia Group is, arguably, Ghana’s most successful private media organization; the kind of success that may have remained a mystery to many people – especially when many others have ventured and failed in this business model.

The Multimedia story raises a lot of questions that need responding to:

Has the Group seen some high-profile resignations in recent times? Yes!

Do these resignations come at a time to accentuate public perception of a crisis? Yes!

But, are these resignations mere pieces of coincidence that have combined to feed into a public perception of raging crisis? Yes!

Like Mr Saani, how does the group explain this to the public, especially the many bloggers and owners of YouTube accounts who are more than willing to jump on these stories for traffic?

I doubt if the business can, or will be willing to, spend its energy fighting perceptions that have unfortunately been reinforced by some inevitable happenings.

One thing is, however, certain: the Multimedia Group, like the giant that this brand is, can only grow bigger by these happenings.

Like Mr Imoro Saani, the Multimedia Group has found its pet snake in the recent resignations but the resignations have only combined to highlight a non-existing crisis. Nonetheless, the mirage of a crisis will deflate, burst like a bubble – with time!

For the avoidance of doubt, if anyone thought that these happenings have done any serious damage to this giant team; I want to remind them of this lesson: Sometimes, a Zlatan Ibrahimović must exit for a Lionel Messi to be given to the world!
