According to Big Akwess, Christiana Awuni and Okomfo Kolege, their motivation to rally against the Akufo-Addo administration was on the back of unfulfilled promises to create sustainable solutions to the problems facing the film industry.

They made these revelations when they appeared on Daybreak Hitz on Friday, December 13, 2024.

“People think we came out to support NDC because of selfish gains but it is not so. We did this for Ghana” she told Doreen Avio.

Adorned in a print of National Democratic Congress (NDC) paraphernalia, actress Christiana Awuni explained she was to celebrate the victory of John Mahama, a comment which was seconded by Big Akwess.

Christiana Awuni explained that the Creative Arts Industry is more than just the entertainment industry and that she added her voice to advocate for better.

She explained that they unveiled to campaign for a better government for Ghana and the youth of Ghana in the creative arts industry to curb the hardship that resides.

Contributing to the conversation, actor Big Akwess recounted a meeting in August 2015, where President Nana Akufo-Addo promised to address the plights of the Kumawood industry.

Big Akwess mentioned the three expectations that the NPP government failed to address as; the need for a film industry which requires a cinema, the passing of a bill to regulate the excessive promotion of foreign telenovelas over local talent and lastly, the building of a film village.

He said passionately, “he has frustrated us. He said it and never did it”.

The actor added that they informed John Mahama of these plights, and have his word for development moving forward.

Adding to the conversation, actor Okomfo Kolege expressed hopefulness for the industry to thrive as before for the benefit of the country.

He explained that Mr. Mahama began tending to the needs of the creative industry but since his term was up, he could not do more.

“I pray Mahama will continue the good works he was doing for the creative arts industry so we boom as we should”, the actor remarked.

I’m not greedy so I won’t campaign for NPP – Christiana Awuni https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-greedy-so-i-wont-campaign-for-npp-christiana-awuni/ Thu, 26 Sep 2024 07:50:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2453505 Popular Ghanaian actress, Christiana Awuni, has dismissed claims that she was paid by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to campaign for them.

In an interview with Zionfelix, Awuni firmly stated that her support for the NDC stems from principle, not greed.

“People say I have taken money to campaign for the NDC, but that’s not true,” she clarified.

She mentioned that if she were interested in money, she would have aligned herself with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), since they are currently in control of the state’s resources.

“If I am greedy and want to enjoy politics money, I would rather opt for NPP because they are the ones handling the state’s money currently. But because I’m not greedy, I will not campaign for NPP like some of my colleagues” she explained.

Awuni went on to outline the reasons for her support of the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

She highlighted Mahama’s promises, including restarting abandoned projects, reopening banks to support traders, improving schools, offering free first-year education to university students, and reviving the Free SHS initiative.

“We want Mahama to prioritize health, education, and employment. Akufo-Addo’s government is a mess,” she said, criticizing the current administration for issues like polluted water and frequent electricity interruptions.

Christiana Awuni descends heavily on Oboy Siki https://www.adomonline.com/christiana-awuni-descends-heavily-on-oboy-siki/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 23:29:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2438167 Kumawood actress Christiana Awuni has criticized veteran actor Oboy Siki, accusing him of trying to bring down the Kumawood industry due to his waning relevance.

According to Awuni, Oboy Siki’s lack of acting opportunities has led him to speak negatively about the industry, but she believes his actions are driven by his retirement and declining presence.

Awuni emphasized that despite Oboy Siki’s harsh remarks, Kumawood remains active, with many actors still securing roles and working consistently.

She lamented his constant insults on colleagues and producers, stating that his influence has diminished and that his words should not be taken seriously.

In her strong critique, Awuni labeled Oboy Siki as a “devil among humans” and advised others not to give him attention.

She expressed concern for newcomers who may be misled by his negative outlook and noted that his disturbing statements, including claims about his own death, further reflect his troubled mindset.

Awuni also used the opportunity to call on investors to continue supporting Kumawood, stressing that the industry still holds great potential.

She encouraged people to focus on the positive aspects of Kumawood and not be swayed by the pessimism of those who have previously benefited from the industry but now seek to undermine it.

Christiana Awuni ‘exposes’ Portia Asare https://www.adomonline.com/christiana-awuni-exposes-portia-asare/ Wed, 21 Aug 2024 23:01:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2437155 Veteran actress Christiana Awuni has taken a swipe at fellow actress Portia Asare, accusing her of being unfriendly and disrespectful on set.

In a recent outburst, Awuni addressed Portia’s complaints about the attitude of younger actors in the industry, labeling her comments as hypocritical.

Awuni stated that Portia’s conduct on set has often been arrogant, and her unfriendly demeanor has isolated her from others in the industry.

She further criticized Portia for badmouthing the Ghanaian film industry in interviews, calling it unfortunate for someone who gained fame and exposure from the very same industry.

According to Awuni, Portia’s behavior is contributing to the decline of the already struggling film sector, and she warned that speaking negatively about the industry that made her successful could result in doom.

This public spat between the two actresses has sparked conversations about professionalism and respect within the Ghanaian entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues weighing in on the issue.

Christina Awuni’s comment is a response to Portia’s lamentation that ‘juju’ selfishness and wickedness among actors have contributed to the struggling state of Ghana’s movie industry, particularly Kumawood.

Movie producers, directors forced us to endorse NPP in 2016 – Christiana Awuni https://www.adomonline.com/movie-producers-directors-forced-us-to-endorse-npp-in-2016-christiana-awuni/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 10:36:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2265788 Ghanaian movie star, Christiana Awuni, has revealed how she was coerced into endorsing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 elections.

Speaking in a video seen by MyNewsGh.com’s Amansan Krakye, the actress said producers and directors warned to sideline her if she doesn’t comply.

“In 2016 some people coerced us forcefully to endorse NPP unwillingly which were our producers and movie directors,” she disclosed.

She revealed “they cautioned us that woe betide anyone who will join NDC or endorse their candidate, they won’t work with you. So we had to comply and follow their instructions because that’s the only job we do to feed ourselves and apart from acting we don’t have another job doing if they don’t cast us in their movies anymore.”

Asked whether the decision has influenced positive results and also about the whereabouts of the said producers, she said:

“We had to force ourselves to do it by all means but now we don’t know the whereabouts of those producers and now we don’t care whatever they decide to do next.

“Even if the movie directors and producers want they can now go burn the sea it doesn’t bother us any longer because we’re now on our own going forward,” she said.

Ghanaian actress Christiana Awuni has waded into the controversy surrounding American actor Spike Lee’s visit to Ghana.

Madam Awuni has said Mr Lee’s comment about the Ghana Film Industry is a disgrace and clearly shows industry players are not doing much.

The American film maker in an interview on Accra-based Asaase Radio during a recent visit to Ghana said nobody from the film industry approached him for a meeting.

Spike Lee claimed he did not even know Ghana had a thriving Film Industry.

“I know about Nigeria, and no one has approached me from the Film Industry in Ghana. I would love to meet people in the film industry but no one has approached me,” Mr Lee said.

Reacting to the development on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall, Christiana Awuni said Spike Lee’s comments should be a wake-up call to the Ghana Industry.

According to her, the high demand for the fat transfer procedure that augments the size and shape of the buttocks of ‘slay queens’ is a business that has come to stay.

In an interview with Nayas on Experiences in Life, Christiana Awuni said these ladies confirm they are able to attract special clients with their new bodies.

She explained that, it has become the order of the day since most men fall in love with ladies who have undergone Brazilian butt lift, a popular cosmetic procedure that involves the transfer of fat to help create more fullness in your backside.

“If you go and do a butt surgery, and you don’t get clients, you will definitely go hungry and that will stop you from going the second time.”

“The men nowadays are enticed by that, so they take them to Dubai, and they go ahead to buy them cars and houses. They will continue to do it because they get more benefits from it,” she said.

She explained that one of her ex-husbands stalked her to the extent that she had no privacy in her life, adding that, the workload of being a wife was too much for her to bear.

“I have not built a house, and I am okay. I don’t want problems. I married for the second time and the man wanted to take me to work. He wanted to be with me everywhere I go to know everything I am involved in.”

How Kyeiwaa and I were chased from the Tema Station market – Christiana Awuni reveals https://www.adomonline.com/how-kyeiwaa-and-i-were-chased-from-the-tema-station-market-christiana-awuni-reveals/ Mon, 20 Feb 2023 14:26:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2218823 When actresses Kyeiwaa and Christiana Awuni settled on a pavement at Tema Station to sell, what they did not expect was an embarrassing situation befalling them.

At that time, they had starred in the popular Sunday special, Cantata, but their wage was just fame and nothing substantial to show for.

It is for this reason the duo decided to sell thrift ware to make extra income, but that dream was shattered the very day they made the attempt.

Christiana Awuni, who brought this to light in an interview on Adom TV’s The Journey, said they were chased out of the market by some irate traders.

“There was a day myself and Rose Mensah (Kyeiwaa) went to sell ‘fos’ at Tema Station. The traders mocked and hooted at us. It was terrible. They chased us out and we had to flee from the embarrassment”.

According to Christiana Awuni, the traders tagged her and Kyeiwaa as greedy fellows who wanted to kick them out of their little business.

The traders feared the actresses will use their fame to gather customers to their side while they go home empty handed.

Christiana Awuni made the comments while speaking on some challenges of being a popular on-screen person.

She indicated that the restrictions that come with the job are many, of which she reference the aforementioned incident.

Renowned Ghanaian actress, Christiana Awuni, has opened up on events that led her to early marriage and motherhood.

Born in Kulungu, a town in Navrongo of the Upper East Region, she spent most of her early years there with her parents and two siblings.

With her father as military person, they were almost all the time transferred from one town to the other.

Narrating her story on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, Madam Awuni indicated she was always in the company of boys and education was less of her worry as she never took it serious.

“My mother, who was the one always with us too, didn’t seem to care and said or did little or nothing about it. But I don’t blame her too because, during that time, the perception was that education wasn’t a thing for girls because they will eventually end up in the kitchen,” she told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

As a result, she dropped out of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) and had to manoeuvre her own way through life as of age 15.

She revealed she relocated to Accra but had to do meagre jobs including ‘kayeyei’, washing bowls at chop bars, and petty trading to make ends meet.

Amid her hussle, she met her husband at the age of 17 and though they were not officially married, she moved in with him and gave birth to two children with him.

This marriage, she bemoaned, was more of a curse than a blessing as it made her do terrible things including becoming a drunkard and violent person.

Her own life tore apart before her very eyes and gave her a bad name at 441 at Nima where they stayed.

The situation she said became worse as she was out of job so was her husband and upon the relaisation that nothing good may come out of it, she ended things with her children’s father.

Pastors tried to sleep with me – Christiana Awuni reveals https://www.adomonline.com/pastors-tried-to-sleep-with-me-christiana-awuni-reveals/ Thu, 06 Jan 2022 09:32:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2064831 Renowned Ghanaian actress, Christiana Awuni, has shared interesting details of why she quit attending church and focused on living her life.

It is normal for parents to inculcate the habit of attending church service every Sunday into an individual if you are living in a Christian-dominated country like Ghana.

Christiana Awuni disclosed in a recent interview with blogger Zionfelix that she was born into a Christian home and worshipped God every time but was forced to quit along the line.

Explaining why she stopped going to church, Christiana Awuni said pastors started making sexual advances towards her because of her curvy and voluptuous backside.

She said the advances became one too many and she moved to another church owned by a popular Ghanaian preacher only to meet a worse reception.

The men of God started using fake prophecies to trap her when they realized they could not have their way with her.

The actress said those actions put her off, forcing her to decide not to worship at any church in Ghana again.

She revealed, also, that the behaviour of the pastors deterred her from having a relationship with God in the church but she prays when the need arises

In an interview on Adom TV’s weekend entertainment show, Ahosepe Xtra, the actress said the movie industry was so lucrative when she joined as a young actress.

According to her, they were so focused on the job that they spent little time at home, travelling months without spending adequate time with family just in search of greener pastures.

She explained that the lack of time eventually prevented many from opening side jobs because they felt there wouldn’t be time to manage it.

She added that they never thought a day will come where the movie industry will dwindle where many will be struggling for roles.

There was no chance. We were going three months without being home. That’s what pushed a lot of actors to never have a side job. If a lot of them thought that way they wouldn’t have suffered this way. A lot of us are suffering, and I am part of them.

We didn’t have the time to think about doing another job. But there are good sides to it. I have been to places with it and I have never been sad about it, she said.

Speaking to host Sister Sandy on Saturday, the veteran actress said she was only interested in viewing actors and actresses perform so she did well never to miss concert shows.

She said it took one day for her to disclose her interest to one of the performers after the show had ended and that was how hers began.

Narrating further, the actress said she didn’t believe she had the talent, hence she avoided auditions on many instances until she was forced to attend.

MORE:

Another factor, she said put her off about acting was many had the mindset then that actresses were prostitutes but it wasn’t so.

One of them asked me why I was still around when the concert had closed. So he urged me on and I said no. The man followed me and came to my house

I tried to stop him but it didn’t work so I started hiding anytime I saw him coming to my house. So one day he followed me and when he said they do rehearsals at a hotel I got scared the more.

I performed my part at the audition and I got a role and it was Ice Kenkey, the Concert Party actor who brought me on stage first, she said on the Ahosepe Xtra show.

Madam Botchwey, during a political gathering, incited the electorate to vote against actor John Dumelo, insisting his status does not qualify him to be in parliament.

The statement has not gone down with the seasoned Kumawood actress who says she will not accept it and is calling on the Actors Guild to issue a letter to the Minister.

“The Actors Guild should wake up and fight. They should issue a letter to demand an apology for the thoughtless comments she [Ayorkor Botchwey] made,” she said.

The actress said she will quit acting and resign as a member of the Guild if the Minister fails to apologise.

The reason for her anger, she disclosed, is that politicians have taken pleasure in disrespecting filmmakers who go length and breadth to put smiles on the faces of their fans.
