Fire razes seven-bedroom house at Techiman https://www.adomonline.com/fire-razes-seven-bedroom-house-at-techiman/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 20:22:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2597073 A devastating fire has razed a seven-bedroom house at Wangara Line, near Atomic Hotel and adjacent to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital in the Bono East Region.

The incident, which occurred shortly after midday, left several households displaced, with victims losing all their possessions.

Cash, furniture, jewellery, television sets, and other valuables were burnt beyond recognition.

Eyewitnesses, including a lotto agent who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said the fire spread rapidly before residents or rescuers could intervene.

“By the time the Fire Service arrived, the harm had already been done,” the lotto agent told Adom News correspondent Wiafe Akenten, describing how helpless they were in their attempts to extinguish the flames.

One of the victims, identified as Auntie Adwoa, who watched her home and belongings go up in flames, could barely find words to express her grief.

“I’ve lost everything… I don’t even know where to start,” she said tearfully.

Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Techiman have launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

According to ADO I Francis Opoku, Acting Regional Operations Officer, preliminary findings indicate that the delay in reporting the incident and the presence of combustible materials in the house intensified the destruction.

The GNFS has since urged the public to ensure proper electrical connections and keep fire extinguishers at home, especially as the dry season approaches.

Adolescents urged to dismiss menstrual myths, prioritise proper hygiene https://www.adomonline.com/adolescents-urged-to-dismiss-menstrual-myths-prioritise-proper-hygiene/ Wed, 28 May 2025 16:38:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2539619 The Techiman Metro Health Director, Dr. Fosuhene Kusi, has urged young girls to reject harmful myths surrounding menstruation and instead adopt proper hygiene practices to safeguard their health and well-being.

He made the call during an event to commemorate the 2025 World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Techiman on Wednesday, May 28. The programme was organised by Valley View Adventist Hospital in collaboration with the Techiman Metro Health Directorate.

The event brought together health professionals, educators, and faith-based organisations to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and reduce stigma among adolescents.

Dr. Kusi stressed the need to dispel false beliefs that continue to harm the lives and education of young girls.

“Menstruation is a normal biological process, yet many girls are still made to feel ashamed because of long-held myths,” he said. “Some of these myths are so harmful that girls skip school during their periods, affecting their education. We must educate and empower them to know that menstruation is not something to hide or be ashamed of.”

“Gone are the days when women were told to stay away from the kitchen or their husbands just because of their periods,” he added. “We must let go of these outdated views and focus on facts and health.”

Dr. Matilda Obeng Kyereh, Director of Women’s Ministries for the North-Central Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, also spoke at the event and advised girls and women on essential menstrual hygiene practices.

“Keeping clean during menstruation is essential,” she said. “Girls should change their sanitary products regularly, wash their hands before and after, properly dispose of used materials, and maintain overall personal hygiene. These practices not only protect your health but also boost your confidence.”

She further encouraged mothers and community leaders to support and educate girls on menstruation to break the cycle of silence and shame.

World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed globally every year on May 28 to promote good menstrual health, raise awareness, and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation.

The event concluded with a strong call to action for communities, schools, and faith-based institutions to create supportive environments for adolescents navigating menstruation.

The occasion was also graced by Nana Yeboah Asuamah III, President of the Bono East Queen Mothers’ Association.

The industrial action is due to the government’s failure to approve their scheme of service, leading to a breakdown in their working conditions.

According to JoyNews‘ Anass Sabit, the affected members of the public, who need their Ghana Cards for various purposes, are appealing to authorities to intervene.

This NIA’s decision comes in response to ongoing frustrations over the employer’s failure to implement a newly approved scheme of service.

In a notice released on Sunday, October 6, the aggrieved workers outlined that their decision to strike stems from the NIA’s inability to uphold its commitment to implementing the agreed-upon scheme of service.

They expressed deep dissatisfaction with the situation, asserting that the delay undermines their rights and expectations as employees.

The workers have made it clear that they will not halt their industrial action until the promised scheme of service is put into effect.

They believe that the failure to act on this matter is not only a breach of trust but also a significant threat to the welfare of all members of the union.
