I was suddenly accused of being in bed with NPP – Ofosu-Ampofo https://www.adomonline.com/i-was-suddenly-accused-of-being-in-bed-with-npp-ofosu-ampofo/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 17:14:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2437945 Ten months after his defeat, the former National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is yet to come to terms with it.

In December last year, he lost his seat to then General Secretary, John Asiedu Nketia. The latter polled 65.17%, while Dr Ofosu-Ampofo got 33.81% votes.

Despite Mr Nketia’s landslide victory, the former chairman said events leading to the contest still haunt him.

According to him, during the contest, there were many speculations about him which he finds difficult to understand.

Dr Ofosu-Ampofo said he was surprised that some party members fabricated things about him even as one of the longest-serving members of the party.

“How on earth could anybody think that I will be in bed with NPP? But all of a sudden my Akyem lineage was brought into question, that I am part of the Akyem mafias. I am in bed with the NPP,” he said on Joy FM.

He said there was a need to sanitise the party to avoid the recurrence of such needless propaganda especially during internal elections.

“From 1992 when this party was organised we haven’t had such an acrimonious environment where press conferences are organised with accusations and insults and all those things. I have not seen it before and I still feel that we need to sanitise the campaign environment when it comes to internal elections,” he added.

Ofosu-Ampofo breaks silence after defeat https://www.adomonline.com/ofosu-ampofo-breaks-silence-after-defeat/ Mon, 19 Dec 2022 12:42:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2197589 Immediate past Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has congratulated the newly elected national executives on their victory.

He has also admonished party supporters to appreciate the victory as a prelude to their battle in the election 2024.

In a statement, he prayed that supporters quickly recover from their individual pain and dented reputation to restore public morality so they [NDC] can join forces to soldier on.

“While this elections needlessly witnessed the worse form of inner vilification, personal attacks and public injury to the hard-won reputation of our Party through various means of public spaces and on social media platforms, this insensitivity would inadvertently affect our restitution, unity and cohesion needed to engender the collective prosecution of our agenda for victory 2024,” he said.

Though his hope of leading the party to victory in 2024 was dashed, he has pledged his commitment to work harder with the new executives.

“I re-dedicate myself to the bigger task of working for victory 2024 and pledge my unalloyed commitment to work even harder for the party together with the elected National officers, and the rank and file of our great party to achieve our ultimate goal of regaining power from the NPP in 2024,” he assured.

‘Stop attacking Mahama’s personality’ https://www.adomonline.com/stop-attacking-mahamas-personality/ Wed, 29 Mar 2017 11:18:50 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=51421 The national vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has called on angry supporters and leaders in the party to stop attacking the personality of former President, John Mahama.

The former President has come under severe attacks from members of the party who believe his leadership style led to the party suffering massive defeat in the 2016 elections.

Deputy General Secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho is said to be at the forefront of attacks on the former President with his comment that he loved late President Mills but worked for former President Mahama being cited as an example.

He has been backed by persons perceived to be belonging to the anti-Mahama block in the party who are making frantic efforts to prevent the former President from contesting the flagbearer slot of the party for the 2020 elections.

These attacks, Ofosu-Ampofo speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on Wednesday said was unnecessary especially as the party was going to campaign on the track record of President John Mahama.

“Nobody under circumstance should attack the personality of the former President and it is very very important statement because whether we like or not, in the year 2020 we would go on the records of his Excellency John Dramani Mahama…,” he said.

This, he said would happen whether the former President contest the flagbearer slot of the party or not for the 2020 elections.

“Whether he contests or not, we would do it and for me, he has a solid record upon which the NDC can stand to contest the 2020 elections…again,” he said.

The NDC, the former Fanteakwa MP said would be on the losing side if the former President is attacked and his legacy destroyed by his own party persons.

Discipline

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo said there was the need to enforce strict party discipline among the ranks and file of the party.

“There is the need to enforce strong party discipline, let’s ensure hierarchical discipline in the party…party finances is NTK, why would a branch executive member want national executive to come and account to him, for what?” he asked.

He further asked the party to crack the whip on persons who might go astray and make comments which would bring the party down.

The former Tema East Parliamentary Candidate of the party further urged NDC members on rampage to desist from washing the dirty linens in public as the words they are throwing into the public domain in anger would be used against the party someday.

He revealed that he has personality approached the Kwesi Botchway committee with his grievances and hence instructed all to do same.

“We have been given the opportunity with the formation of the committee…go to the committee with your grievances because I have been there myself and stop the attacks on whatsapp…,” he said.

The party after doing a SWOT ananlysis, Ofosu-Ampofo said have come to the firm conclusion that there is the need to have unity in the party going into the 2020 elections.
