The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has urged the Chekosi and the Konkombas in Chereponi in the Northern region to stop fighting and reserve their energy for Planting for Food and Jobs.
He revealed that, he is working hard to bring jobs to the teeming unemployed youth in the region.
This follows clashes between the two tribes over a piece of land which resulted in the death of two people over the weekend.
The chief and some elders were picked up by police to assist with investigations.
A joint police and military personnel have been deplored to the area to ensure peace.
Addressing the media, Hon Salifu Saeed admonished the people to channel their energies into productive sectors of the economy.
He said he wants the Chekosi and Konkomba youth to join government’s efforts to make northern Ghana the food basket of the nation.
“This is farming season, people are ready to go and farm if these things are happening they are scared to go to farm. What I’m telling the people in Northern region is that we want to be a lead region in the implementation of the planting for food and jobs so therefore no conflict.
“People should stop fighting and let’s put all our energies into cleaning our lands and then making sure that we’ll do the necessary weeding by the end of the day there will be enough food for us to eat, leftovers we can sell and get additional income,” Hon Salifu Saeed said.
The Minister added that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is meeting over the Chereponi Clash and also review other hot spots to see how they can restore peace in those areas.
