The June 29 disaster left hundreds of traders counting heavy losses after floodwaters submerged large sections of the market before a fire broke out, destroying shops and merchandise.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, she said the incident wiped out years of investment and hard work.

“I have lost 18 shops. I sell rubber items, plastic chairs, children’s chairs, brooms and many other goods. Everything we sell is gone,” she said.

According to her, the shops were fully stocked just days before the incident.

“Last Friday, we took stock of a lot of items because we don’t open on Saturdays. We loaded the shops with goods ready to sell on Monday. So you can imagine how painful this is for me,” she said.

She believes the fire may have been triggered by electrical faults after floodwaters reached the level of electricity meters in the market.

“The rains were very heavy, and the water got up to our meters. I think it is electricity that caused the fire after the flooding,” she explained.

Elizabeth Gyamfi estimated that goods worth millions of cedis were destroyed in the blaze.

“All the 18 shops were fully stocked. Everything has been burnt beyond recognition. We cannot even pick anything from the rubble,” she lamented.

She added that she has been in business at the market for about 10 years and built her livelihood without taking loans or insurance.

“I used my own money after clearing previous debts. I don’t have insurance because even when you call them, they don’t come,” she said.

She also expressed disappointment over the level of official support so far.

“No government official has come here today to see what we are going through. We are just here counting our losses,” she said, although she acknowledged that the area’s MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had visited earlier after the incident.

She appealed for urgent support, saying the loss has left her devastated.

“My children are in school, and I don’t know how I will start all over again,” she added.

Heartbreak in Dawhenya as floodwaters kill over 1,600 birds on poultry farm [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/heartbreak-in-dawhenya-as-floodwaters-kill-over-1600-birds-on-poultry-farm-listen/ Wed, 01 Jul 2026 11:22:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2678697 A poultry farmer, Victor Gezie, has recounted how heavy rains and flooding destroyed his farm at Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region, killing more than 1,600 birds and causing extensive financial losses.

Mr Gezie, owner of Grey Farms, said he and his workers initially monitored rising water levels as the rains began, hoping the situation would not worsen.

“When the rains started, we were moving around checking the water levels to see how best we could protect the cages from flooding,” he said.

He explained that although the water level in front of the gate appeared manageable at first, the situation quickly escalated.

“At a point, the water level in front of our gate had reduced, so we thought it would not enter the compound. We all went back to our rooms,” he recounted.

However, he said a loud noise from a neighbouring property signalled the beginning of a major collapse that triggered sudden flooding.

“All of a sudden, I heard a very loud noise from the opposite side. We are surrounded by different properties, all fenced, so I knew something had gone wrong,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem.

According to him, a collapsed wall from an adjoining property worsened the situation, allowing floodwaters to rush into the poultry farm.

“Before I could open the door, the wall fence of the plot beside us broke and collapsed into our compound. That was when the water started rushing in,” he explained.

Mr Gezie said the situation deteriorated rapidly, forcing them to flee for safety as water levels rose to dangerous heights.

“We called the boys to come out, and before we knew it, the water was at chest level. We had to climb over the fence and move across to other compounds to escape,” he said.

He added that even nearby areas were heavily flooded, forcing them to continue moving until they found safer ground.

“We kept moving from one fence to another. In some places, the water was at neck level. We just had to hold on and keep moving until we got to safety,” he said.

Mr Gezie said they later returned after the rains subsided, only to discover that all the birds had died.

“When we came back, all our birds in the cages had died. We lost about 1,630 layers,” he said.

He also revealed that harvested eggs prepared for delivery to a customer were completely destroyed by the floodwaters.

“We had already packed eggs for a customer who was supposed to pick them up, but everything was washed away,” he added.

The farmer said he had earlier contacted the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for assistance but was advised to send pictures and videos for assessment.

“I called NADMO a long time ago. They asked me to send pictures and videos and said they would come and assess the situation, but the damage had already started getting worse,” he said.

He added that the aftermath of the flood has left the area in an unbearable condition.

“The place is even smelling badly now, and it has spread towards the roadside,” he said.

Mr Gezie noted that he invested heavily in the business with support from his brother and said the losses were devastating.

“My brother helped me with the capital, and we invested so much into this poultry farm. Everything is gone,” he said.

His comments come as government agencies continue rescue, relief and recovery efforts following Monday’s floods, which claimed lives, displaced residents and caused widespread destruction across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Work from home – Interior Minister advises workers over flooding in Accra [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/work-from-home-interior-minister-advises-workers-over-flooding-in-accra/ Mon, 29 Jun 2026 09:16:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677706 The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged residents of Accra to work from home on Monday following severe overnight rainfall that has triggered widespread flooding and brought parts of the capital to a standstill.

He said, based on information from the Meteorological Department, more heavy rains were expected, particularly as weather systems from Togo approach, warning that conditions could worsen.

“Based on what the Meteorological Department is telling us, we expect it to be heavier if the prediction of more rains from Togo gets here, so please stay home, work from home,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

The Minister advised workers already at their workplaces to remain there until conditions improve, while those yet to leave home should stay indoors and work remotely where possible.

He further called on employers across the country to activate flexible work arrangements, stressing the need to maintain operations through remote systems during the disruption.

“Private and public meetings that are not too urgent, we can have them on Zoom, and those that are very urgent, we can postpone them,” he added.

The appeal comes as emergency services continue to battle flooded roads and severe traffic gridlock across the capital, with authorities working to minimise risk and safeguard lives.

The Minister also expressed appreciation to emergency responders, including NADMO, the Ghana Navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Police Service, for their ongoing efforts.

He urged improved coordination among agencies, encouraging swift information sharing to enhance response efforts.

“I want to thank NADMO, the Navy, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police and all the emergency teams for the work they have already started doing… let us work together and operate as one unit,” he said.

I was shocked – Obaatanpa Radio owner speaks on alleged attack on station [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/i-was-shocked-obaatanpa-radio-owner-speaks-on-alleged-attack-on-station-audio/ Fri, 26 Jun 2026 12:45:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2677144 Owner of Obaatanpa Radio, Emmanuel Kwadwo Anim, has spoken about how some officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including the Central Regional Chairman and a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), allegedly stormed the station and assaulted staff.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Anim recounted how he received a distress call while chairing a meeting.

“I was in a meeting somewhere when I had a distress call that some NDC Regional Chairman and an MCE had stormed my radio station to shut it down. I was shocked,” he said.

According to him, he informed those who contacted him that he was unable to leave the meeting immediately.

“I told them I was in a meeting and I was the one chairing it, so if they needed me, they should either come to where I was or wait for me to arrive,” he explained.

Mr Anim said the call suddenly dropped, after which he began receiving several calls from different people about the incident.

He noted that he immediately contacted the Regional Police Command and asked officers to intervene.

“I called the Regional Police Command and informed them that NDC executives were at my radio station, so they should go there,” he said.

He explained that after his meeting ended, he rushed to the station, where he was briefed on what had happened.

“I was told they were hosting a political programme, which usually features both NDC and NPP representatives. During the discussion, things got heated, and that led to the issue,” he stated.

According to him, the altercation escalated when the NDC Regional Chairman and the MCE allegedly drove to the station and attacked some of the people present.

“So I asked those who were assaulted to get police medical forms. The one who was beaten took the form and went to the hospital,” he added.

Mr Anim said he later reported the matter to the Regional Police Command and gave his statement.

“I also went to the Regional Command and wrote my statement. They asked us to return today for further discussions because the commander was not around,” he said.

His comments come after the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, together with the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Professor Kofi Asiedu, and others, allegedly stormed Obaatanpa Radio and locked down the station.

We are clearing structures on waterways – La Nkwantanang MCE defends demolitions [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-are-clearing-structures-on-waterways-la-nkwantanang-mce-defends-demolitions-audio/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 13:05:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676718 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang–Madina, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini, has defended the ongoing demolition of structures blocking waterways within the municipality, saying the exercise is necessary to prevent flooding and protect lives and property.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Fuseini explained that the recent flooding incidents across parts of the country prompted directives from the Regional Minister for assemblies to act swiftly and clear unauthorised developments on waterways.

“When it rained last time and there was flooding, it was something that worried every Ghanaian. The Regional Minister tasked us to ensure that buildings and properties blocking waterways are demolished,” he said.

He noted that one of the major challenges facing assemblies is non-compliance with building regulations, stressing that developers are required by law to submit building plans for approval before construction begins.

“By law, anyone who wants to build must bring their drawings to the assembly so we assess whether the structure is suitable for the area,” he explained.

However, he said many developers either fail to obtain permits or ignore approved plans after securing them.

“Some people don’t even come for permits at all, and others get the permits but do not follow what has been approved,” he added.

Mr Fuseini also revealed that some developers deliberately construct buildings during weekends or after official working hours to avoid detection.

“They know that mostly on Fridays after 4 or 5pm, the assembly staff are not around, so they start building. That is why we now have taskforces working on weekends to monitor such activities,” he said.

According to him, the assembly has intensified its monitoring and demolition exercise across the entire municipality, with no specific area targeted.

“We have not targeted any specific area. It is the entire municipality. Wherever we find structures on waterways or in unauthorized locations, we clear them,” he stated.

He added that recent inspections in areas such as Abokobi and Madina revealed worrying levels of illegal developments.

“Yesterday, we went round Abokobi and Madina, and when you see buildings on waterways, you will be shocked,” he said.

Mr Fuseini acknowledged that the exercise has not been easy, as affected individuals often resist enforcement.

“One of the challenges is that when we go and advise people to remove structures on waterways, they are not happy about it,” he noted.

He further urged the public to comply with building regulations, stressing the need for proper education and planning before construction begins.

“We are doing public education so that anyone developing land will take note before building,” he added.

His comments come after a task force under the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly demolished the Kingdom Palace Church at Pantang Village as part of an enforcement exercise targeting structures on waterways.

They filled a river with sand to build – La Nkwantanang MCE justifies demolition of church structure [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/they-filled-a-river-with-sand-to-build-la-nkwantanang-mce-justifies-demolition-of-church-structure-audio/ Thu, 25 Jun 2026 12:13:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676724 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang–Madina, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini, has clarified an alleged altercation between a municipal task force and a church member during a demolition exercise at Pantang Village.

He explained that he was not present when the confrontation occurred and only received reports after the operation had ended.

“I was not even there when the issue started. When we finished, I left the site and later heard there was a misunderstanding,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Mr Fuseini said the structure in question was a church building being constructed on a waterway, which had been filled with sand, describing the site as a reserved drainage area.

“It was actually in a waterway and a reserved area for water. It is like a river, and they have filled it with sand,” he explained.

He added that the structure was still at an early stage and had not been completed at the time of demolition.

“It was an empty structure. They were yet to complete the church, and we pulled it down,” he stated.

According to him, the assembly had served notice to the developer before carrying out the demolition.

“We gave them notice. The pastor was there when we demolished it,” he said.

Mr Fuseini further revealed that the matter had been escalated to the relevant authorities following the incident.

“He has reported me to the ministries, and I have had people call me because of him,” he noted.

He defended the demolition, insisting that the location posed serious flood risks.

“I told him the place where the building is located is not good. I asked him whether he would allow water to destroy people and kill people if we continue to build there, and he agreed, and then we demolished everything,” he explained.

He said tensions later arose when officials returned to retrieve equipment used during the exercise.

“After everything, when we were leaving and my people came to take the machine, that is where the issue started,” he said.

Mr Fuseini also claimed that a woman, believed to be related to the pastor, later confronted the task force during the incident.

“They later brought his sister, and from what I was told, she was shouting and claiming she is a lawyer and would not allow it,” he stated.

He added that the assembly is prepared to respond to any legal challenge.

“They told her to go to court. We are ready for that because even the law is against what they have done,” he said.

The comments follow the demolition of the Kingdom Palace Church at Pantang Village on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, by a task force under the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly as part of an enforcement exercise targeting structures on waterways.

The operation triggered tension, with reports of resistance from congregants and an alleged assault on a church member who was filming the exercise.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he explained that he was contacted by officials from government ministries and not the Presidency, as had been widely reported.

“I made the point that someone called me, but the person was not from Jubilee House. I think journalists took my words out of context,” he said.

He clarified that the call came from ministry officials, who advised him to stop the demolition exercise.

“They called me from the ministries and headquarters and told me I should leave the issue,” he explained.

However, Mr Fuseini said he rejected any attempt to interfere with his duties, stressing that his mandate is to enforce regulations and ensure compliance with planning laws.

“I told them I was placed here to help ensure that people do not break the law. So calling me to stop my work because someone had called was not right,” he said.

He added that if pressure continued to be mounted on him, he would escalate the matter through official channels.

“I told them if they want me to stop my job, then I will also report to the President and the Regional Minister, and they can go and present their case there,” he stated.

Mr Fuseini maintained that any suggestion that he said the call came from the Presidency was inaccurate.

“It was a slip of the tongue. That is not what I said. The media twisted my words,” he insisted.

His comments follow the demolition of the Kingdom Palace Church at Pantang Village on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, by a task force under the La Nkwantanang–Madina Municipal Assembly as part of an enforcement exercise targeting structures on waterways.

The operation triggered tension as congregants reportedly resisted officials, leading to a confrontation in which a task force member allegedly struck a church member who was filming the exercise.

SWED Mining breaks silence on Bondaye concession row [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/swed-mining-breaks-silence-on-bondaye-concession-row-listen/ Wed, 24 Jun 2026 14:47:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676421 SWED Mining Ghana Limited says it remains the rightful 100 percent owner of the Bondae mining concession and has strongly dismissed comments made by NDC National Organiser, Joshua Akamba, describing them as uninformed and misleading.

The Director of Operations of the company, Kwaku Addy, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, insisted that SWED Mining entered into a legally binding joint agreement in 2019 with a partner company to develop the concession after significant financial investment was injected into the project.

According to him, under the agreement, the partner company was entitled to 85 percent of proceeds, while SWED Mining retained 15 percent as the concession owner.

“We signed a valid agreement and submitted a copy to the Minerals Commission as required by law,” Mr. Addy stated.

He explained that the arrangement initially worked smoothly, with SWED Mining receiving its 15 percent share from the first and second consignments.

However, he said challenges began when payments suddenly stopped.

“On the third consignment, they told us there was no significant gold, so we did not receive our share. The same explanation was given for the fourth consignment,” he said.

Mr. Addy further alleged that the situation worsened when the company’s representative at the site was removed, cutting off SWED Mining’s access to operational information.

“They started making false allegations against our representative and sacked him from the site, so we had no access to updates on production,” he added.

He said SWED Mining later engaged the Minerals Commission and its legal team, eventually moving to terminate the agreement after repeated disputes.

“After termination, they even prevented us from entering our own concession. We don’t have access to the site anymore,” he alleged.

His comments come in the wake of reports that the Western Regional Police intervened to prevent a suspected forceful takeover of a mining concession at Prestea Bondaye in the Western Region.

According to sources, the incident involved a group of men allegedly dressed in military-style gear attempting to eject Ghanaian workers from the site.

The concession is currently the subject of an ongoing legal dispute at the Sekondi High Court involving Long Shine Mining Ghana Limited.

Police intervention reportedly prevented a potential confrontation as investigations continue into the matter.

No one in NPP can claim they don’t know me – General Secretary Aspirant [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/no-one-in-npp-can-claim-they-dont-know-me-general-secretary-aspirant-audio/ Tue, 23 Jun 2026 16:06:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676044 General Secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has spoken about his popularity and long-standing service within the party, insisting that he is well known across party structures due to his years of active involvement.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he said he has served the party consistently since 2005 in various capacities.

“I have held party positions since 2005. Twenty-one years frontline, not that I am behind. I have work to show,” he said.

He noted that his political journey includes service both locally and abroad, including executive roles within the party.

“I was an elected executive in the UK. I have always held frontline positions, so anyone who says they don’t know me is probably new,” he stated.

Mr Antwi also highlighted his experience as a Member of Parliament, deputy minister, and member of key party committees.

“I have been an MP for the party, a deputy minister, and a member of the National Council. I have also served on campaign committees in the Ashanti Region twice,” he explained.

He argued that his record makes it difficult for anyone within the party to claim ignorance of his identity or contributions.

“So when you say people don’t know me, it means maybe they just dislike me,” he added.

He further emphasised his family’s long-standing involvement in the party, saying their contribution dates back to the party’s early foundations.

“We are UP people, so you cannot say you don’t know me. My father was also very instrumental in the party. We started from somewhere to where we are today,” he said.

Elections are not slogans, but hard work – Eugene Boakye Antwi [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/elections-are-not-slogans-but-hard-work-eugene-boakye-antwi-audio/ Tue, 23 Jun 2026 15:07:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2676030 General Secretary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has said both major political parties in Ghana are facing the same fundamental challenges, warning that the “symptoms are the same” despite different actors.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he said the NPP’s current situation is a reflection of lessons that were ignored after the 2016 elections.

“I think the two political parties have the same sickness. The symptoms are the same, just different actors,” he said.

“I remember what we discussed in 2016, and we thought it would not happen to us. That is the same thing that sent us into opposition.”

He added that the performance of the opposition National Democratic Congress will ultimately be judged by Ghanaians, stressing that political power lies with the electorate.

According to him, the focus of the NPP must be on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2028 elections.

“Our focus is that we should rebuild our party to put it in a position of winning the next election. Ghanaians are the ones who voted for the NDC, and they are the same people who will vote for all of us,” he stated.

He noted that voters are closely assessing political parties based on their ability to deliver.

“They are looking at what governments can do and what they cannot do,” he said.

Mr Antwi further urged party members to be disciplined in their public communication, saying some comments undermine the party’s image.

“Sometimes our comments are not respectful. We must present an image that shows we are a credible party,” he said.

He stressed that winning elections requires preparation and hard work rather than slogans.

“Elections are not slogans; they are hard work. When you are winning, you can tell. That is why, tactically, the NDC since 2005 has often selected former MPs and ministers to lead the charge,” he added.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr Akamba said politics has become increasingly “dirty,” a situation he believes is discouraging some long-standing political actors.

“Something is happening in our political setup that is making some of us who came into it earlier feel uncomfortable. Our politics is very dirty, too much dishonesty,” he said.

He added that the current political environment is causing some people to regret their involvement in politics.

“The dishonesty is too much. Some of us even regret it,” he stated, adding that the issue cuts across all political parties, including the NDC, NPP, and CPP.

Mr Akamba also expressed concern about the conduct of some young people in politics, particularly on social media.

“The youth and the training they are getting now, when you go on social media, the insults and disrespect for adults is just too much and very bad,” he said.

He further recalled a past political experience involving late former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and late John Evans Atta Mills, as well as party elders.

“I remember one day we went to a meeting. Kwabena Agyei is no more, but Asiedu Nketia is around, and the Council of Elders were there. Something happened, and at that time Rawlings and Professor Mills were there,” he recounted.

According to him, he boldly made his point at the meeting, after which former President Rawlings acknowledged him.

“After I spoke, Rawlings left. When he got to me, he said, ‘That’s my boy, remain strong. I know you will always be strong.’ Hajia Sanabu is my witness,” he said.

Mr Akamba added that many people still misunderstand his character and political stance.

“People don’t really know me yet,” he concluded.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr Akamba said he did not join others who rushed to submit their CVs in search of government appointments after the NDC won power.

“When the NDC won elections and everyone was running to submit their CVs to look for jobs and appointments, I was the one who never thought about it at all,” he said.

He stressed that honesty and integrity are core values that guide his life.

“The honesty of life is very important to me. If I say I am very honest and loyal to you, then I am,” he stated.

Mr Akamba also emphasised his commitment to transparency in communication, saying he does not speak ill of people behind their backs.

“I won’t go and stand somewhere to speak ill against you. Whatever I will say, I will say it to your face and not behind you,” he explained.

He added that this principle is deeply rooted in his upbringing.

“Even my late mother will tell you. Sometimes they cannot even predict who I am,” he noted.

According to him, his consistency and straightforward nature sometimes make it difficult for people to fully understand him.

She is our daughter, but… – Family reacts to Adwoa Safo shooting incident [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/she-is-our-daughter-but-family-reacts-to-adwoa-safo-shooting-incident-listen/ Mon, 22 Jun 2026 13:17:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675529 The family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has expressed concern over its inability to directly reach Sarah Adwoa Safo following reports of a recent shooting incident involving her.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, said attempts to contact her directly have been unsuccessful, stressing that any communication must go through her close aides.

“Who are you to call Adwoa Safo for her to pick? Unless you call her assistant to even see if she will talk to you,” he said.

He added that despite the situation, Adwoa Safo remains family and will be engaged internally at the appropriate time.

“She is our daughter. If anything happens to her, it is just like something has happened to our own family. When we get the chance, we will speak to her and find out what really happened,” he stated.

Dr. Kissi noted that the family is currently relying on media reports regarding the incident, as they were not present at the scene.

“We only heard about it like everyone else. We were not around on the day of the incident, so as a family we are going to sit down and discuss it properly because we are not fully aware of what happened,” he explained.

His comments follow reports that former Minister of State, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle near the residence of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

We talk to the children, but… – Secretary to Safo Kantanka family [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-talk-to-the-children-but-secretary-to-safo-kantanka-family-audio/ Mon, 22 Jun 2026 12:36:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675533 The family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has raised concerns over difficulties engaging some of the deceased’s children regarding ongoing funeral arrangements.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, said the family maintains communication with some of the children but struggles to have consistent engagement due to disagreements within the family structure.

“We have no issues with the other children. We talk to them, but after speaking with us, they always go back to follow their sister, Adwoa Safo,” he said.

He added that the family’s main concern remains the inability to locate and access the body of the late Apostle for burial.

“What worries us is that when the children come to us, they also plead with us to help them see the body of their father. But after that, they still follow their sister,” he stated.

Dr. Kissi noted that while communication channels exist with most of the children, direct contact with one of them has been difficult.

“The only child we cannot reach directly is the one we have to contact through a personal assistant,” he said.

He stressed that the family’s collective desire is to ensure a dignified burial for the late Apostle in accordance with tradition.

“All we want is to see our father and give him a befitting burial,” he added.

His comments come amid reports that former Minister of State, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle near the residence of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has announced revised funeral arrangements, with final rites scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations between family and church leadership.

We know nothing about those dates – Family rejects announced funeral Schedule for late Apostle Kwadwo Safo [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/we-know-nothing-about-those-dates-family-rejects-announced-funeral-schedule-for-late-apostle-kwadwo-safo-listen/ Mon, 22 Jun 2026 12:35:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675522 The family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has distanced itself from previously announced funeral dates, insisting that no final agreement has been reached on the burial arrangements.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, said the family is not aware of the July 30 and 31, 2026 dates circulating in the media, stressing that discussions are still ongoing.

“We have not announced any July 30 and 31 funeral dates. As a family, we know nothing about those arrangements,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme.

According to him, the family believes the said dates were set without proper consultation and do not reflect a collective family decision.

“It is Adwoa Safo who has sat in her chambers with her people and set her own dates, and that is not acceptable in our tradition,” he alleged.

Dr. Kissi stressed that efforts are being made to ensure peace and unity within the family despite ongoing disagreements over the funeral arrangements.

“We are all trying to ensure that peace prevails, but she refuses to listen,” he added.

He explained that the family is still engaging stakeholders and has not reached a final decision on the burial schedule.

“At the right time, you will hear from the family. We are still in talks,” he said.

Dr. Kissi further noted that the late Apostle Safo not being buried several months after his demise was a worrying situation for the family.

“It will be ten months since our father passed away on July 11, and he is still not buried. We need to let Ghanaians know what is happening because many people have interest in this matter,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the family’s priority remains securing the body for a proper traditional burial.

“Our focus is simple—we want to get the body of our father so we can bury him as a family,” he stated.

Meanwhile, earlier reports had indicated that the family and church leadership had agreed on funeral arrangements scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations.

However, the family now maintains that no final consensus has been reached.

Kantanka funeral: Family appeals to Akufo-Addo and Bawumia to advise Adwoa Safo on burial matters [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/kantanka-funeral-family-appeals-to-akufo-addo-and-bawumia-to-advise-adwoa-safo-on-burial-matters-audio/ Mon, 22 Jun 2026 12:32:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675510 The family of the late inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has appealed to former President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to intervene in ongoing disagreements over funeral arrangements.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, made the appeal in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, saying the family believes both leaders, as traditional and cultural figures, can help resolve the impasse.

“I appeal to President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia. I know Adwoa Safo has gone to inform them about her father’s death, so I believe they understand Akan tradition and can call her and advise her to do the right thing,” he said.

He explained that, in most Akan and other Ghanaian traditions, family heads and elders are expected to take the lead in funeral arrangements, working together with immediate children of the deceased.

“In many traditions, especially in the Northern Region and across Ghana, the family leader works with the eldest child to decide what to do. But in this case, it appears the daughter wants to take full control even before we have seen our late father,” he stated.

Dr. Kissi stressed that the family is not seeking confrontation but insists on adherence to tradition and proper family procedures.

“We are all from families, and that is why we say the family handles everything, because they understand what is involved. We cannot abandon our traditions,” he added.

He further alleged that repeated attempts to engage Adwoa Safo have been unsuccessful.

“We have spoken with her for a long time, but she has decided not to listen to us. Even people who come around advise us to follow her lead, but we cannot ignore our family customs,” he said.

According to him, concerns have also been raised by individuals within the Kristo Asafo Mission who have attempted to intervene without success.

“Even a prominent person in the church said he would speak to her, but she has refused to pick his calls,” he claimed.

Dr. Kissi insisted that the family’s priority remains accessing the body of the late Apostle for a dignified burial in line with tradition.

“Our only concern is to see our father’s body and give him a proper burial according to custom,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has announced revised funeral arrangements, with the final rites scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations between family representatives and church leadership.

We don’t know where the body is – Family demands access to late Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s remains [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-dont-know-where-the-body-is-family-demands-access-to-late-apostle-kwadwo-safos-remains-audio/ Mon, 22 Jun 2026 11:59:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2675494 The family of the late renowned inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, has expressed concern over delays in accessing his body ahead of his final funeral rites.

Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the family, speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, said the family has made several attempts to engage with Adwoa Safo to facilitate discussions on the funeral arrangements and traditional rites, but those efforts have been unsuccessful.

According to him, the family is particularly worried about their inability to see and access the body of the late Apostle.

“The funeral is the issue now. As a family, we have tried all our possible means to speak to our daughter, Adwoa Safo, but she has refused to listen to us,” he said.

He added that the family’s intention is to ensure that traditional customs are properly observed before the burial.

“In Akan tradition, when someone dies, the family must be involved in the arrangements. We have even tried to speak to her to know where our father’s body is being kept so we can perform the necessary rites, but she has closed her ears to us,” he explained.

Dr. Kissi stressed that the family’s focus is solely on retrieving the body for a dignified burial, separating church matters from family and traditional responsibilities.

“As a family, our aim is to get the body of our father and bury him. Whatever the church is doing is their own matter and constitution. We have no idea about that,” he stated.

He further raised concern over not having access to the body.

“As I am speaking with you, we have not seen the body and we do not know where it is now,” he said.

Dr. Kissi also cautioned that any mismanagement of the situation could create complications for the family’s traditional responsibilities.

“If the family does not take action and something goes wrong, it may appear as though we failed in our duty. That is why we are insisting on seeing the body,” he noted.

He described the late Apostle Safo as a peaceful man who would have preferred a dignified and well-organised burial.

“Our late father was a peaceful man who does not like conflict. All we want is to lay him to rest properly,” he added.

The comments come in the wake of a reported shooting incident on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in which Adwoa Safo allegedly sustained a gunshot wound to her left ear while visiting the residence of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

The incident is believed to be linked to tensions over a succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder.

Meanwhile, the family has announced revised burial arrangements for the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, with the funeral now scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026, following consultations between family leaders and church authorities.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, Secretary to the Apostle’s family, stressed that the family had no involvement or direct knowledge of the incident because they were not there.

“No family member was present during the ceremony that led to the shooting incident, so we can’t immediately speak to it,” Dr. Kissi said. “Since the death, we have not even seen the body of our relative, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, so that is our priority now.”

He explained that the family is currently focused on retrieving the body for burial and making their own arrangements, separate from the church’s rites.

“So for us as a family, our interest is to get the body of our relative… and burying him,” he added. “The family have our arrangements, likewise the church. They are doing their things and rites.”

Dr. Kissi noted that the family plans to meet internally first before deciding on any further public statements.

“We’re planning to meet as a family, and whatever comes up and it becomes necessary, we will make it public,” he said. “So I can’t say I saw A or B at the ceremony because we were not there.”

Dr. Siaw emphasised that they were completely absent from the event and are currently preoccupied with laying their late relative to rest.

According to the Secretary to the family, Dr. Philip Siaw Kissi, efforts to reach her directly have been unsuccessful, as she does not answer calls, making communication difficult at a time the family is worried about her wellbeing.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr. Kissi said the family, like the general public, has been following developments through media reports and is eager to confirm her condition firsthand.

“If someone is your relative and something happens to him or her, even before you see the person, everyone is worried. But the truth is nobody calls her for her to pick,” he said.

He explained that attempts to contact her have been routed through her personal assistant, but direct communication has not been possible.

“You have to get to her through her assistant, but she is still our daughter, and if something happens to her, it affects us too,” he added.

Dr. Kissi said the family’s immediate priority remains the burial arrangements for the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, stressing that discussions around other issues will follow in due course.

“The family’s priority now is to get the body of late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka and give him a befitting burial,” he stated.

He noted that the family was not present at recent ceremonies and is relying on media reports for updates on developments surrounding both the burial and the reported incident.

“We were not at the ceremony and don’t know what exactly happened. We are hearing everything through the media,” he said.

Dr. Kissi added that the family will soon convene to deliberate on the issues and determine the way forward, assuring that the public will be kept informed of any decisions reached.

“So in due course, the family will meet and discuss the issues and see the way forward. Whatever happens, we will keep Ghanaians informed,” he said.

Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot wound to her left ear while visiting the residence of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, on Sunday.

The incident is alleged to have occurred amid tensions linked to an ongoing succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested six people in connection with the incident as the investigation proceeds.

KMA boss speaks on flooding situation in Kumasi [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/kma-boss-speaks-on-flooding-situation-in-kumasi-listen/ Fri, 19 Jun 2026 14:26:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2674826 The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, says the assembly began early interventions about two months ago in flood-prone areas to reduce the impact of rainfall on residents.

He explained that the assembly acted after concerns were raised by the Ghana Water Company about heavy silt and sand blocking water channels, which often leads to flooding during heavy rains.

“Anywhere we know has issues and where traditionally it floods when it rains, we started working on it about two months ago” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show.

He added that clearing of waterways has been ongoing to improve drainage and reduce disruption to daily activities.

“The Ghana Water Company came to alert us that the water channels were heavily silted with sand. So when we heard that, we also started working on the river because when it rains, people cannot even cross to go about their daily business,” he said.

According to him, the early interventions have helped reduce major flooding incidents in most parts of the metropolis.

“Because of that, we did not get a lot of flooding issues,” he noted.

However, he revealed that work at one location has been challenging due to local beliefs and resistance from residents.

“In one area, the excavator working there got stuck in the river, and residents believe it has to do with the river gods. They say some rituals must be performed before work can continue,” he explained.

He also mentioned another incident in Oforikrom, specifically at a location called House of Jacob, where an excavator deployed for drainage work has also become stuck.

“We have an excavator at a place called House of Jacob is stuck, and we are working to retrieve it,” he said.

Mr. Boadi further noted that despite these challenges, the assembly has carried out demolition exercises in some flood-prone areas to prevent future disasters.

He said Kumasi has a relatively well-engineered drainage system in areas such as Asafo, but rapid population growth and human activities have reduced its effectiveness over time.

“Our engineers are currently assessing the situation. It will cost millions of dollars to fix properly, so we will engage the Ministry of Works and Housing for support when the estimates are ready,” he stated.

He assured residents that while the rainy season is underway, Kumasi is not experiencing severe flooding compared to other parts of the country due to ongoing interventions.

We’ve issued notices — Weija-Gbawe MCE on planned demolition exercise [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/weve-issued-notices-weija-gbawe-mce-on-planned-demolition-exercise-listen/ Fri, 19 Jun 2026 13:49:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2674817 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, has confirmed that the assembly will soon begin a demolition exercise targeting structures built on waterways and within the Densu River buffer zone.

He explained that the move is aimed at reducing flooding risks, especially during dam spillage periods, and improving the free flow of water in affected communities.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he said the assembly is already engaging affected residents and issuing notices ahead of the exercise.

“We made plans to open the estuary to allow the water to pass through. The water level has come down a bit, but we are still working on it,” he said.

“In the municipality, we have started giving notices to people who have built on waterways and water bodies to vacate the areas. We are about to begin the demolitions so that nobody will say they were not informed,” he added.

Mr. Lamptey noted that the assembly is also working on clearing choked drains across towns within the municipality to improve water flow and reduce flooding incidents.

He further disclosed that officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have already begun marking structures on waterways as part of preparations for the exercise.

“Last week, the Ministry of Works and Housing brought physical planners to conduct drone surveys to identify structures on red lines. We are now waiting for the final assessment before we take the next steps,” he explained.

He added that the assembly is collaborating with regional and national authorities to assess the situation and determine the best way forward after the demolitions.

According to him, the assembly will not be responsible for providing alternative accommodation for affected residents.

“It is not the responsibility of the assembly to find places for those whose structures will be demolished. That is why we are giving early notices—to avoid blame games,” he said.

The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly says the operation forms part of broader efforts to prevent flooding and protect water bodies in the Greater Accra Region.

Weija-Gbawe MCE pushes for permanent engineering solution at estuary channel [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/weija-gbawe-mce-pushes-for-permanent-engineering-solution-at-estuary-channel-audio/ Fri, 19 Jun 2026 13:34:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2674822 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, says the assembly has made engineering recommendations to the Ministry of Works and Housing to permanently address challenges at the estuary channel.

He explained that the goal is to create a lasting solution similar to the storm drain system constructed at Korle Lagoon to improve water flow and reduce flooding risks.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he said:

“For the engineering aspects, we have made recommendations to the Ministry of Works and Housing. When you go to the Korle Gutter, they have done the storm drain, and if we can also get something similar at our estuary, it will help.”

He noted that one major challenge is the difficulty in accessing the estuary whenever the Weija Dam is opened.

“One of the challenges we have is that when we open the Weija Dam, we have to travel long distances to open the estuary for the water to pass,” he said.

Mr. Lamptey explained that delays and access issues often lead to tensions with nearby residents.

“When it happens like that, residents around the area don’t allow us to operate. Some believe the water from the dam carries fish, so when the estuary is opened, the fish are washed away. This creates confrontations between us and the residents,” he said.

He suggested that a permanent engineered estuary system would eliminate the need for manual intervention each time the dam is opened.

“But if we get a permanent estuary like what has been done at Korle Lagoon—such that it flows directly into the sea—then we won’t have to go and look for excavators and travel long distances every time,” he explained.

He further revealed that the assembly is also considering long-term energy solutions linked to the water system.

“In future, we are thinking of engaging engineers to explore the possibility of a small hydro plant to generate electricity for nearby communities. We are hoping to continue discussions on how feasible it will be,” he added.

The MCE said the proposals are part of broader efforts to prevent flooding during dam spillages and protect water bodies in the municipality.

2026 World Cup: We don’t know exactly why it happened – Akonnor on goalkeeper switch [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/2026-world-cup-we-dont-know-exactly-why-it-happened-akonnor-on-goalkeeper-switch-audio/ Thu, 18 Jun 2026 10:41:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2674284 Former Ghana captain, Charles Akonnor, has weighed in on concerns surrounding Ghana’s goalkeeping situation following the Black Stars’ 1-0 win over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said decisions made by the technical team should be respected, as they have access to information fans may not be aware of.

“I think you don’t know, and I also might not know what happens in the camp. The coach knows when to make changes,” he said.

Akonnor noted that public complaints and discussions about selection are part of football and can help technical handlers make better decisions.

“All these things are good signs. Once fans are making complaints, it goes to the ears of the head coach, and he looks at it and takes decisions,” he explained.

He stressed that football involves everyone, including fans, coaches, and stakeholders.

“Football is not for one person. The fans and everyone are part of it,” he added.

According to him, goalkeeping decisions are particularly sensitive and rarely changed without strong reasons.

“This area is very sensitive. Hardly will you see a team bring a goalkeeper in and take him out immediately. We don’t know exactly why it happened,” he noted.

However, he maintained that the most important thing is Ghana’s victory, adding that the coaching staff will continue to review their decisions.

“We have come out with a win, and it means the decisions they took worked. The coach will look at the areas that need improvement and move forward,” he said.

Akonnor also praised Ghana’s tactical discipline, especially their ability to defend without the ball.

“What they did well was how they played without the ball. They were very intelligent, and that is a good sign for the team,” he stated.

He expressed optimism that the team will improve in their next match as they continue to adjust and build momentum.

“I am sure they will look at the improvements needed. The next game they will be stronger, tougher, and better prepared,” he added.

Ghana sealed a 1-0 win over Panama after a stoppage-time goal from Caleb Yirenkyi, assisted by Brandon Thomas-Asante, in the 95th minute.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said the team showed strong tactical discipline, especially in their defensive work without the ball.

“I think they did well in the sense that they covered a lot of areas. They played very well without the ball,” he said.

Akonnor noted that the players worked extremely hard and deserved credit for their effort throughout the match.

“When you work so hard, sometimes you are rewarded,” he added.

He also praised the timing of Ghana’s late winner, describing it as a perfect moment in the game.

“The time they got the goal was very good for us. The match was almost over,” he said.

According to him, the team’s willingness to sacrifice and support each other was key to the victory.

“They sacrificed a lot in terms of running and covering for each other,” he stated.

Akonnor further said the win is an important confidence boost for the squad as they prepare for their next group match.

“I always say you have to start well by winning, and I think this is a motivation. They go into the next match knowing they have won their first game, and it is an encouragement for them,” he said.

He admitted that most of the players have limited World Cup experience but praised their character and determination.

“Majority of the players have not had too much experience at the World Cup, only a few have. But they showed character, and that is what I admire about the team,” he noted.

Not the best of performance, but… – George Afriyie on Ghana’s win over Panama [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/not-the-best-of-performance-but-george-afriyie-on-ghanas-win-over-panama-audio/ Thu, 18 Jun 2026 10:33:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2674265 Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has urged Ghanaians to remain supportive of the national team following Ghana’s victory over Panama in their Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said patriotic citizens should continue to support the team and pray for injury-free football as the tournament progresses.

“If you are a patriotic citizen, you should watch the match and pray for injury-free football,” he stated.

Afriyie noted that Ghana is currently building a young squad with several new players, adding that multiple challenges have affected the team’s preparation and performance.

“We need to accept that we have a very young team and almost an entirely new set of players. So many factors are going against us,” he said.

He explained that injuries to key players have also weakened the squad, affecting stability in crucial positions.

“In a World Cup team, you don’t miss six to eight key players like we are experiencing. Players like Salisu and Agyekum would have formed a strong centre-back partnership, just like they did in Qatar,” he noted.

He added that availability of players such as Gideon Mensah or Baba Rahman would have strengthened the defence, while Thomas Partey’s absence has also affected the midfield.

“If Partey was available, we would have stability in the middle of the park. Unfortunately, he is not part of the tournament,” he said.

Mr. Afriyie further argued that Ghana’s lack of adequate preparation and friendly matches also contributed to the team’s struggles compared to other nations.

“Some of our opponents played several preparatory matches before the World Cup, but the same cannot be said of Ghana,” he said.

Despite the challenges, he urged the players to remain motivated after their victory.

“The boys should take inspiration from this win. They should watch videos of the celebrations and understand that the whole country expects more from them,” he added.

Ghana secured a 1-0 win over Panama at Toronto Stadium, with a stoppage-time goal from Caleb Yirenkyi sealing all three points in Group L. The result marked a strong start for coach Carlos Queiroz, although he admitted his team endured long spells without possession before executing their game plan.

U.S. won’t hand over Ofori-Atta if… – Kofi Tonto [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/u-s-wont-hand-over-ofori-atta-if-kofi-tonto-listen/ Wed, 17 Jun 2026 13:05:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2673873 National Communications Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Tonto, has defended former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, arguing that the legal processes surrounding his case in the United States must be understood beyond the surface.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Kofi Tonto questioned calls for the U.S. authorities to simply hand over Ofori-Atta to Ghana.

“You claim someone has committed a crime, but how can the U.S. State Department confirm the crime you have accused the person of without due process?” he asked.

He said many Ghanaians often focus on the surface of issues instead of examining the substance.

“I always say that if we do not pay attention to the substance of matters and only focus on the surface, we will continue to remain where we are,” he stated.

According to him, the United States has established laws, known as statutes or U.S. codes, that guide how fugitives and extradition matters are handled.

“When you read the laws, they clearly state how the U.S. government treats people who are declared fugitives in their home countries,” he explained.

Kofi Tonto said if Ghana believes a person has committed a crime and is residing abroad, there are laid-down procedures involving the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Ghana Embassy, and the U.S. Secretary of State before the matter can even be placed before a judge.

He further argued that under U.S. law, the alleged offence must be a legitimate crime and not a politically motivated attempt to persecute the person.

“The law is clear. If the U.S. government believes the request is only to persecute the person and not prosecute an actual crime, they will not hand him over,” he said.

He claimed that U.S. authorities are monitoring developments in Ghana and are aware of public discussions surrounding Ofori-Atta.

“The U.S. government has an embassy in Ghana. They see everything happening in the news, and they know some people want Ofori-Atta brought back to face trial. They are watching all of this and may view it as politically motivated,” he added.

His comments come amid ongoing investigations involving Kenneth Ofori-Atta, who is facing several criminal allegations linked to decisions taken during his tenure as Finance Minister.

Among the allegations is a claim that a contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited resulted in losses of more than GH¢1.4 billion to the state.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has also been investigating the former minister and, in June 2025, initiated steps to secure an INTERPOL Red Notice after he allegedly failed to honour multiple invitations for questioning. The notice was later removed by INTERPOL.

The OSP, however, maintains that reports of Ofori-Atta acquiring lawful permanent residency in the United States do not shield him from criminal investigations in Ghana or affect ongoing efforts to secure his return for questioning.

It is a dent on gov’t  – Titus Glover reacts to Sophia Akuffo’s resignation [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/it-is-a-dent-on-govt-titus-glover-reacts-to-sophia-akuffos-resignation/ Mon, 15 Jun 2026 13:16:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2672958 Former Greater Accra Regional Minister and former Tema East MP, Titus Nii Kwartei Glover, has described the resignation of former Chief Justice and Council of State member, Sophia Akuffo, as a “dent on government.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Glover linked her resignation to recent developments surrounding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, suggesting tensions within the governance process.

“It is a dent on the government. Have you heard that a Council of State member will just resign like that?” he said.

He further suggested that her decision may be connected to dissatisfaction over how the former Chief Justice was treated during the removal process.

“When Justice Torkornoo was faced with her issue, Sophia Akuffo and Justice Anim Yeboah appeared before the committee and said what was being done was not right,” he stated.

According to him, the former Chief Justice had expressed her displeasure through her actions during Council deliberations.

“Even when the report was generated before the Council of State, she was the only lone ranger who abstained,” he added.

Mr. Glover further alleged that the resignation reflects broader concerns about the handling of the Chief Justice’s removal, saying: “We all have ears and eyes and we know what is going on.”

He added that “the way you handled Torkornoo is on the neck of the NDC,” and said he respected Sophia Akuffo’s decision to step down.

“Let her go in peace. She has served her country well, and I wish her well,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has resigned from Ghana’s Council of State.

Although the exact reasons for her resignation remain unclear, sources indicate she had stopped attending Council meetings following the decision relating to the removal process involving former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. She is also reported to have submitted her resignation towards the end of 2025.

Justice Akuffo served as Chief Justice of Ghana from 2017 to 2020. The Council of State is a constitutional advisory body that provides counsel to the President on national governance and policy matters, with members drawn from across the country.

In April 2025, when the Council of State voted on whether a prima facie case had been established against then Chief Justice Torkornoo, 30 out of 31 members reportedly voted in favour, with Sophia Akuffo being the only member to abstain. She did not publicly explain her decision at the time.

Nana Yaa Jantuah recounts how her father rejected bribe over timber licence [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/nana-yaa-jantuah-recounts-how-her-father-rejected-bribe-over-timber-licence-listen/ Mon, 15 Jun 2026 13:11:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2672930 Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has urged Ghanaians, especially public officials, to serve the nation with honesty and dedication, stressing that service should not be driven by money.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem while reflecting on the life and legacy of the late veteran diplomat, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, Nana Yaa Jantuah shared a personal story about her father that shaped her values on integrity and public service.

According to her, one day while at home, she witnessed a Lebanese businessman bring a huge bag of money to her father in an attempt to secure a timber licence.

She said her father rejected the money outright, a decision she did not understand at the time.

“I asked my father why he rejected such a huge amount of money, and he told me never to sell my conscience,” she recounted.

She explained that growing up, she often listened secretly to conversations whenever prominent people visited their home, which made her curious about such encounters.

“My father told me if you sell your conscience, you will forever look back and regret it. That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life,” she said.

Nana Yaa Jantuah stressed that public service should be rooted in sacrifice and patriotism rather than personal gain.

“As Ghanaians and as officials, we need to serve and serve Ghana very well. Whatever views we share and whatever roles we play, it is Ghana we are serving,” she said.

She noted that she has dedicated almost 36 years of her life to serving Ghana and believes the country needs more selfless leaders.

“I have served Ghana for a very long time, almost 36 years, and I have put my life down for this country. We need to serve Ghana wholeheartedly,” she added.

Comparing Ghana to some developed countries, she said citizens in those nations often focus on service to country rather than financial rewards.

Reflecting on the passing of Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, Nana Yaa Jantuah described him as one of the statesmen who served Ghana with distinction and urged younger generations to learn from his example.

“The late Victor Gbeho served with all his heart, and we need to learn from people like him,” she stated.

Ambassador James Victor Gbeho passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He served as President of the ECOWAS Commission from February 18, 2010, to March 1, 2012. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Glover said he was shocked when he heard the news of the diplomat’s death, which was confirmed by the Foreign Affairs Minister.

“I was watching the news in the evening when the Foreign Affairs Minister announced publicly that Victor Gbeho had passed on,” he said.

He described the late diplomat as “a gentleman par excellence” and a respected figure who served Ghana with distinction.

“He is a gentleman par excellence and a respected personality of our land. From my mother’s side in Anlo, he has passed. Let me use this opportunity to mourn him,” he added.

Mr. Glover noted that the late Ambassador Gbeho’s contributions to Ghana and the West African sub-region made him deserving of a state funeral.

“This funeral is for the state because he really served well,” he stated.

He also extended condolences to the bereaved family, President John Dramani Mahama, and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the nation has lost a great statesman.

“He was once an MP for Anlo. We wish the family, the President, and the entire NDC strength in this difficult time,” he said.

Mr. Glover further indicated that he would participate in the funeral once arrangements are announced to pay his final respects.

Ambassador Gbeho, who passed away at the age of 91 on Saturday, June 13, 2026, was a distinguished diplomat who served as President of the ECOWAS Commission from February 18, 2010, to March 1, 2012. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Weija flooding: Don’t they see people building on waterways? – GWL questions assemblies [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/weija-flooding-dont-they-see-people-building-on-waterways-gwl-questions-assemblies-audio/ Thu, 11 Jun 2026 14:04:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671739 The Director of Communications at Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Stanley Martey, says the continuous construction of buildings on waterways is worsening flooding in parts of Weija.

He expressed concern that despite daily monitoring and enforcement efforts by municipal authorities, people continue to erect structures on water channels.

“Every day, new structures are being built, and it is very worrying,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Mr. Martey questioned the effectiveness of local authority taskforces responsible for preventing such developments.

“The Municipal Assembly has a taskforce that patrols the communities daily. Don’t they see people building on waterways? Later, they come and blame us,” he asked.

He insisted that although warning notices are often issued to developers, enforcement measures are rarely followed through.

“They go and write ‘Stop Work’ on these buildings, but they don’t follow up. Then later, they blame us,” he stated.

Mr. Martey called for stronger enforcement measures, including the demolition of illegal structures obstructing waterways.

“All structures impeding the flow of water must be pulled down,” he stressed.

Mr. Martey said he was encouraged by comments from the Regional Minister authorising Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to demolish such buildings.

“I am happy the Regional Minister has given MMDCEs the authority to pull down those buildings,” he said.

He added that he has documented evidence of ongoing encroachment and warned that the issue would be revisited if it continues.

“I have copies of newspapers reporting these issues. If this happens again next year, I will bring them out and we will review whether we have all been responsible,” he cautioned.

Mr. Martey explained that Ghana Water Limited has been managing the Weija Dam carefully, noting that controlled spillage has been ongoing since last year.

“We started spilling the dam since last year April and we have not closed it,” he said.

He added that the dam has a maximum safe operating level of about 45 feet, which must not be exceeded.

“The maximum operating level is around 45 feet. We always try to keep it there. We cannot allow it to go beyond that, otherwise it becomes dangerous,” he explained.

He said the dam is monitored hourly to ensure safety.

“We monitor the dam on an hourly basis,” he noted.

Meanwhile, hundreds of homes in parts of Weija in Accra have been submerged following the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam, leaving many residents stranded and forcing evacuations.

We spend money that can build 6 classroom blocks every year on sensitisation – GWL [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-spend-money-that-can-build-6-classroom-blocks-every-year-on-sensitisation-gwl-audio/ Thu, 11 Jun 2026 10:33:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671733 The Director of Communications at Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Stanley Martey, says the amount of money spent annually on public sensitisation and announcements about the Weija Dam spillage could be used to build infrastructure such as classroom blocks or CHPS compounds.

He expressed frustration over what he described as repeated human disregard for warnings not to build on buffer zones and waterways.

“The amount of money we spend on announcements and sensitisation forums every year can even build six classroom blocks or a CHPS compound,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

“We spend that amount every year on sensitisation, announcements and refreshments after community engagements. For how long are we going to continue like this?” he asked.

Mr. Martey stressed that Ghana Water Limited consistently engages communities, stakeholders and local authorities before and during dam operations.

“Every stakeholder in the community is involved. We hold community forums and sensitisation exercises. People have been educated,” he stated.

He said despite these efforts, some residents still go ahead to build on protected areas.

“After educating you not to build on river buffers, you still go ahead. Why should we do that?” he asked.

According to him, the affected areas are naturally swampy and unsuitable for construction.

“Those areas are mushy areas. Nobody should be building there,” he warned.

Mr. Martey added that GWL should not be blamed for the flooding caused by the controlled spillage of the dam.

“We should not be blamed for doing our job. We are simply ensuring safety,” he said.

He explained that the company continuously monitors water levels at the dam.

“We monitor the dam on an hourly basis and take readings every minute. Whenever we see the level rising above safe limits, we have to open the spill gates,” he noted.

He urged the public to support efforts to prevent flooding by respecting planning regulations and avoiding construction on waterways.

“If we do the right things, we will all be safe,” he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of homes in parts of Weija in Accra have been submerged following a controlled spillage of the Weija Dam, leaving many residents stranded and forcing evacuations.

People are building on river buffers – GWL on Weija floods [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/people-are-building-on-river-buffers-gwl-on-weija-floods-audio/ Thu, 11 Jun 2026 10:04:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671729 The Director of Communications at Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Stanley Martey, has attributed the flooding in parts of Weija to human activities along river channels rather than the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam.

He explained that many residents have built structures on buffer zones and directly within river pathways, blocking the natural flow of water.

“People keep putting up structures that impede the flow of the river, and that is what is happening in the area,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

He stressed that when rivers are blocked, water will inevitably find alternative paths, often leading to flooding in surrounding communities.

“If you block a river, it will find a place to pass,” he stated.

Mr. Martey noted that there are clear policies prohibiting construction along riverbanks, but these rules have been ignored in several communities.

“On every side of the river, people are not supposed to build, but they have built to the extent that structures are now in the river itself and even filling it up,” he said.

He explained that when heavy rains occur, the blocked waterways cause water to overflow into residential areas.

“When the rains come and the river cannot flow freely, it diverts and floods safer places,” he added.

Mr. Martey therefore rejected claims that Ghana Water Limited is responsible for the flooding due to the spillage.

“So we cannot be blamed for opening the dam,” he stressed.

He further warned that failure to release excess water from the dam could lead to a far worse disaster.

“If we do not open the dam and the excess water has nowhere to go, the dam could break—and that would be more disastrous than what we are seeing now,” he explained.

He cautioned that a collapse of the dam would cut off water supply to large parts of Accra.

“If the dam breaks, we will not be able to abstract water for treatment. It would take three to four years to reconstruct it, meaning about 60 percent of people in Accra could go without water for years,” he warned.

The controlled spillage has contributed to rising floodwaters in downstream communities, submerging homes and shops and forcing residents to move belongings to safer locations.

Flooding not from dam spillage – GWL sets record straight on Weija situation [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/flooding-not-from-dam-spillage-gwl-sets-record-straight-on-weija-situation-audio/ Thu, 11 Jun 2026 09:55:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671719 Hundreds of homes in parts of Weija in Accra have been submerged following a controlled spillage of the Weija Dam, leaving many residents stranded and forcing others to flee their homes.

The flooding comes after Ghana Water Limited (GWL) confirmed it had begun releasing excess water from the dam due to rising water levels that exceeded safe operating limits, raising concerns of a possible overflow.

However, the Director of Communications at Ghana Water Limited, Stanley Martey, has clarified that the spillage is not the main cause of the flooding in affected communities.

According to him, the situation has been worsened by heavy rainfall and human activities along waterways.

“The dam spillage has not caused the flooding. What we are seeing is the result of the heavy rains we’ve had. Even we are surprised at how some of these places have been flooded,” he said on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem.

Mr. Martey explained that many residents have encroached on buffer zones and waterways, which has worsened the impact of the rains.

“Some people have built in buffer zones where they are not supposed to put up structures. Others are even filling up river bodies and building on them,” he stated.

He stressed that Ghana Water Limited has been managing the dam carefully and has been carrying out controlled spillage since last year.

“We have been spilling the dam since last year. The dam has been opened throughout. So what we are seeing this year is not because of the spillage, but the heavy rains,” he explained.

Mr. Martey cautioned the public not to ignore the situation, stressing the need for proper environmental practices.

“We need not joke with this issue,” he warned.

He added that the spillage is a controlled safety measure to prevent the dam from overflowing, not an emergency release causing flooding downstream.

“It is not about the dam. The dam has already been opened in a controlled manner,” he said.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as displaced residents call for urgent relief and long-term solutions to recurring flooding in the area.

That is not how I raised my daughter – Mother of Nyinahin SHS student breaks down over viral video [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/that-is-not-how-i-raised-my-daughter-mother-of-nyinahin-shs-student-breaks-down-over-viral-video-audio/ Wed, 10 Jun 2026 12:03:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671326 The mother of a female student involved in the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School incident has expressed shock and disappointment after a viral video showed her daughter allegedly being assaulted by a teacher.

Recounting the mother’s words in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the Public Relations Officer of the Atwima Mponua District Education Directorate, Eric Aboagye, said the woman had travelled from another town to Nyinahin to engage authorities over the matter.

He said the woman was deeply distressed after seeing the widely circulated video.

“The mother was crying and said that is not how she raised her daughter. She was very surprised to see the video of her daughter fighting with a teacher,” Mr Aboagye stated.

According to him, the mother expressed shock and disappointment over how the incident had escalated.

Mr Aboagye also provided updates on the legal process, explaining that police were preparing to arraign the teacher in court, but the suspect’s lawyers arrived after court sitting hours on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, the police were processing the teacher for court. His lawyers arrived later, but by then the court had closed,” he explained.

He added that efforts were underway on Wednesday morning to ensure the suspect is brought before the court.

“This morning, they went to the police commander to see how he can be taken to court,” he said.

The footage, which has sparked widespread public outrage, appears to show the teacher physically confronting the student while other students are heard pleading for him to stop. In the video, he is seen repeatedly striking the student and at one point lifting and throwing her to the ground.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Education Directorate PRO describes character of Nyinahin SHS teacher [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/education-directorate-pro-describes-character-of-nyinahin-shs-teacher-audio/ Wed, 10 Jun 2026 12:00:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671330 The Public Relations Officer of the Atwima Mponua District Education Directorate, Eric Aboagye, has defended the character of the teacher involved in the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School incident, describing him as a long-serving and disciplined hostel caretaker.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Aboagye said the teacher has managed the private hostel for about seven years without any recorded disciplinary incident.

“One thing about the teacher is that he has taken care of the hostel for the past seven years, and there has never been any incident of this sort,” he said.

He added that the teacher is generally regarded as a disciplinarian who strictly enforces hostel rules.

“From what we know, he is a disciplinarian, and he is supposed to maintain order. If there had been patience, we might not be where we are today,” he stated.

According to him, the hostel is privately owned, and the teacher was appointed by the owner due to his strict approach to discipline and ability to manage students effectively.

He explained that the teacher was initially reluctant to take up the role because of concerns about managing students who may not fully comply with rules.

“The owner of the hostel built it and asked the school authorities to recommend someone disciplined to manage it, and he was chosen for that role,” Mr Aboagye said.

He further noted that the hostel operates under strict regulations, which some students sometimes struggle to follow, especially as they become more independent.

“When students get to that stage, they want to do things their own way, and I believe that contributed to the misunderstanding,” he explained.

Mr Aboagye added that while the teacher’s actions cannot be excused, he may have reacted under provocation.

“He is a human being like all of us. If he had exercised a little more patience in the face of provocation, this would not have happened,” he said.

Meanwhile, the teacher has been arrested after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting a female student on campus.

The footage, which has sparked widespread public outrage, appears to show the teacher physically confronting the student while other students are heard pleading for him to stop. He is seen repeatedly striking the student and at one point lifting and throwing her to the ground.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Female student made offensive remarks – Education Directorate PRO explains Nyinahin SHS incident [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/female-student-made-offensive-remarks-education-directorate-pro-explains-nyinahin-shs-incident-listen/ Wed, 10 Jun 2026 11:20:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2671321 The Public Relations Officer of the Atwima Mponua District Education Directorate, Eric Aboagye, has provided clarification on an incident involving a teacher and a female student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr Aboagye said the incident occurred on Monday evening at a private hostel housing students of the school.

He explained that three male students had reportedly left the hostel after gate closing hours and returned around 10:00pm, despite the gate being scheduled to close at 9:00pm.

“When they came back late, the teacher in charge told them to go back because the gate was already closed and he could not open it at that time,” he said.

According to him, the students reacted by pelting stones at the hostel, prompting the caretaker to report the matter to the hostel owner, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the police over alleged threats against the teacher.

He further alleged that tensions escalated after the male students were asked to vacate the hostel.

“The teacher later reported that the boys had threatened to attack him after their WASSCE examinations,” Mr Aboagye stated.

He said the removal of the students from the hostel triggered a confrontation involving a female student, who allegedly made offensive remarks directed at the teacher.

“The female student, out of anger, made some comments which the teacher responded to. Unfortunately, the exchange escalated,” he explained.

Mr Aboagye added that during the exchange, the student reportedly mentioned that her father was deceased, which further intensified the confrontation.

He said the matter was later escalated to school authorities, who involved the police. The teacher was subsequently taken into custody to assist with investigations, while the student was issued a medical form for examination.

“The assistant headmistress in charge of domestic affairs contacted the police commander, and both parties were attended to. The student has since been treated and discharged,” he said.

He noted that the female student is a final-year WASSCE candidate offering Home Economics and had completed her Biology examination, with only one paper left before finishing school.

Mr Aboagye added that the student is currently in stable condition following medical attention, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Mining Scheme dispute: Abirem NDC Organiser blames DCE for exclusion [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/mining-scheme-dispute-abirem-ndc-organiser-blames-dce-for-exclusion-audio/ Tue, 09 Jun 2026 13:31:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670997 The NDC Constituency Organiser for Abirem, Frank Owusu Amoah, has accused the Birim North District Chief Executive (DCE), Hakeem Antwi Abdul, of sidelining party members during the rollout of the government’s Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.

According to him, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, delegated officials to conduct community engagement and registration for the programme and expected the DCE to ensure that information reached all stakeholders.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr Owusu Amoah alleged that the DCE failed to adequately communicate details of the registration exercise to party members and residents.

“The Minister delegated people to undertake community engagement and registration and expected the DCE to ensure the information reached everyone. Unfortunately, that did not happen,” he claimed.

Mr Owusu Amoah further alleged that tensions between the DCE and some party members date back to his appointment.

“Ever since he was nominated as DCE, some party members were not happy with the decision. However, once government approved him, we all accepted and supported him,” he said.

He claimed that despite this support, the DCE has consistently failed to involve party executives in key activities within the district.

“We believe the DCE thinks he owes nothing to the party. He has consistently sidelined party executives and failed to involve us in important decisions. We have complained about this on several occasions,” he alleged.

According to him, constituency executives had planned to meet the DCE to discuss their concerns and find a way forward but have been unable to do so.

“The constituency executives wanted to meet the DCE to resolve these issues, but the constituency chairman has not supported that move because he is perceived to be aligned with the DCE’s camp,” he claimed.

His comments follow Monday’s disruption of the launch of the Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme in the Birim North District.

Some aggrieved youth, believed to be supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), attempted to block Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and his entourage from launching the initiative.

The protesters, dressed in black with red armbands, accused party leaders and local stakeholders of excluding them from the planning and implementation process.

The situation was later brought under control following the intervention of police personnel and senior party officials.

The Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as part of efforts to formalise small-scale mining, promote responsible mining practices and create sustainable employment opportunities in mining communities.

According to him, many people have misinterpreted videos of the incident that have been circulating on social media.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr Owusu Amoah said neither the youth nor party supporters opposed the government’s mining initiative.

“I have seen the video, but a lot of people are misinterpreting what happened. We support what President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, are doing. The youth are in support of the programme because it is intended to help us,” he said.

He explained that the government’s goal is not to stop mining activities but to ensure they are carried out responsibly.

“When President Mahama came into office and saw the challenges in the mining sector, he did not seek to stop mining. Rather, he wants us to mine responsibly without destroying the environment,” he stated.

Mr Owusu Amoah said this informed the introduction of the Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme, which seeks to support unemployed youth interested in mining while promoting environmentally sustainable practices.

“Government wants to take interested youth through the necessary processes and training so they can mine responsibly, protect water bodies and reclaim degraded lands,” he explained.

According to him, the confusion arose during the registration and community engagement phase of the programme.

He alleged that officials delegated to conduct community sensitisation and registration failed to adequately involve all stakeholders.

“The problem started when people were sent to conduct community engagement and register interested participants. They were expected to work through the District Chief Executive, Hon. Hakeem Antwi Abdul, to ensure proper announcements were made,” he said.

Mr Owusu Amoah claimed that information about the registration exercise did not reach many party members and community residents.

“Our concern was that many people, including party supporters, were not informed about the registration. Some people who were close to local authorities were registered while others were left out,” he alleged.

He further claimed that a similar situation occurred when participants were selected for training under the programme.

“When the trainers arrived, the training was held at the District Assembly Hall. The organisers from Accra assumed everyone who needed to participate had been invited, but many people who were interested were unaware of it,” he said.

According to him, the aggrieved youth decided to raise their concerns directly with the Minister before the official launch.

“We informed the Minister that many people had been excluded from the process. When we stopped his convoy, he got down from his vehicle and listened to our concerns,” he recounted.

Mr Owusu Amoah commended the Minister for engaging with the protesters and assuring them that the concerns would be addressed.

“The Minister listened to us and admitted that if people had genuinely been excluded, then that was not fair. He assured us that nobody would be left out and that those who missed the earlier stages would be given the opportunity to participate,” he said.

He added that the Minister promised that additional registration would be conducted to ensure broader participation.

“He assured us that the townspeople and party members who were excluded would be registered so that everyone could benefit from the programme,” he stated.

Mr Owusu Amoah said the youth eventually commended the Minister for his response and willingness to engage them.

“We even applauded him because he showed that he is a grassroots person who has the interest of the party and the people at heart,” he added.

His comments follow an incident on Monday, June 8, when some angry youth, believed to be NDC supporters in the Birim North District, attempted to block Mr Armah-Kofi Buah and his entourage from launching the Cooperative Mining Scheme.

The protesters, dressed in black attire with red armbands, accused local party leaders and stakeholders of sidelining them in the planning and implementation of the initiative.

The situation was eventually brought under control through the intervention of police officers and senior party officials.

The Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as part of efforts to formalise small-scale mining, promote responsible mining practices and create sustainable employment opportunities in mining communities.

Some victims have collapsed and are in hospital — Tema Community 25 resident speaks over demolition [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/some-victims-have-collapsed-and-are-in-hospital-tema-community-25-resident-speaks-over-demolition-audio/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 11:52:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670439 A resident of Tema Community 25 in the Savannah Junction area near New Dawhenya, Janet Baidoo, says some affected residents have collapsed and been hospitalised following the demolition exercise carried out over a disputed land.

She described the situation as traumatic, saying many families were overwhelmed by the destruction of their homes.

“When this demolition happened, we are asking ourselves if we indeed have leaders in this country,” she said.

She added that some victims could not cope with the emotional and physical impact of the incident.

“If you are in a country and you don’t have anybody to speak for you, they will just trample on you. Some of the victims have collapsed and are in hospital because they cannot handle the pain and damage that has been done,” she told Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Her comments come after residents of Community 25 were evicted following the enforcement of a court ruling by a developer claiming ownership of the disputed land.

We had no prior notice — Tema Community 25 resident speaks after demolition [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/we-had-no-prior-notice-tema-community-25-resident-speaks-after-demolition-listen/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 11:35:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670425 A resident of Tema Community 25 in the Savannah Junction area near New Dawhenya, Janet Baidoo, has said she and other affected families were given no prior notice before the demolition of their homes, following the enforcement of a court ruling over a disputed parcel of land.

She said the operation, which took place at dawn, was the first time residents were informed of any eviction order.

“We had no prior notice. Nobody told us anything. That morning, when they came, was the first time we were hearing about it,” she told Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

According to her, security personnel claimed they had been called in early in the morning to enforce a court decision.

“They said the police were called at dawn to come and carry out the exercise,” she added.

Janet Baidoo expressed frustration over what she described as a lack of transparency from the authorities involved.

“Come to the ground and ask people yourself if they were given any notice. They just came to take people’s things out,” she said.

She also said residents were not provided with any official documentation at the time of the demolition.

“When we asked them to show us the court order, they refused. They didn’t give us any reason why our houses had to be demolished,” she stated.

Describing the scene, she said many of the affected houses were fully completed and occupied.

“Come and see people’s houses that have been demolished. These are not structures on waterways or in bad condition. These are proper houses built with people’s hard-earned money,” she said.

Janet further claimed that residents were unsure who was behind the enforcement exercise.

“They say the person who won the court case is out of the country, and we don’t even know who is behind all this,” she added.

She questioned the fairness of the process and the human impact of the demolition.

“If you have won a court case, do you not see that people used their hard-earned money to build these houses? Just look at what has been done. How do we even recover from this damage?” she lamented.

Her comments follow the demolition of several structures at Savannah Junction, where residents say they were caught up in a long-standing land dispute involving multiple claimants and repeated sales of the same plots.

We don’t know what to do – Residents cry out after Community 25 evictions [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-dont-know-what-to-do-residents-cry-out-after-community-25-evictions-audio/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 11:24:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670419 Residents of Community 25, Savannah Junction area near New Dawhenya in the Tema enclave, have been evicted following the enforcement of a court ruling in a long-standing land dispute that ended in the demolition of several structures.

One of the affected residents, Janet Baidoo, recounted the distressing experience, saying she and her family had legally acquired their property about 11 years ago and had no prior notice that the land was under litigation.

“We acquired the house and land with my mum and siblings about 11 years ago. It was a fully completed building, and we never heard anything about any dispute,” she told Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

She explained that the eviction began unexpectedly when security personnel arrived at the area.

“On Wednesday morning, I was called that police and soldiers had surrounded the area, asking everyone to evacuate because there was a court case they had won,” she said.

According to her, the situation was confusing as residents were unaware of the final legal outcome and had previously seen different parties lay claim to the land.

“Another party had also claimed to have won a case before, so we were confused about what was happening,” she added.

Janet said the operation involved police officers, military personnel and bailiffs who entered homes and began removing residents’ belongings.

“They entered every room and started packing our things outside. We didn’t know what to do, so we started calling the people who sold the land to us, but they were not responding,” she recounted.

She further noted that residents attempted to seek intervention from local authorities.

“We went to meet the MCE at Prampram, and we were told to remain calm because discussions were ongoing,” she said.

However, she said the demolition resumed days later despite ongoing efforts to resolve the matter.

“Last Saturday, during heavy rain, they stormed the place again. My brother rushed there and saw that the area had been cordoned off with bulldozers, and our house—built with our hard-earned money—was being pulled down,” she said emotionally.

“My elderly mother, who is over 70 years old, has been crying since,” she added.

Meanwhile, other affected residents say they are devastated, alleging they were caught between multiple competing land claims and repeated payments to different individuals who presented themselves as owners.

The demolition has reignited concerns over persistent land litigation and multiple sales of the same property within parts of the Tema enclave, leaving many families displaced and uncertain about their future.

Cynthia Morrison urges urgent relocation of girl allegedly defiled by father [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/cynthia-morrison-urges-urgent-relocation-of-girl-allegedly-defiled-by-father-listen/ Fri, 05 Jun 2026 10:50:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669553 Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has stressed the need for urgent relocation and protection of the alleged victim to ensure her safety and recovery an alleged defilement case involving a police officer and his biological daughter.

She said the child’s welfare, education, and wellbeing must be prioritised.

“We need to relocate the girl to the safest place. The interest of the child, her welfare and education are important,” she said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem.

She noted that the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) should be fully involved in the matter, given that the victim is a minor.

“DOVVSU is under the police and the Ministry of Gender, and I believe once she is a minor, they will know what is going on,” she added.

Mrs Morrison further called for counselling support for both the child and her mother as part of efforts to help them recover from the trauma.

“The woman also needs counselling, just as the girl,” she said.

The comments follow allegations made by the child’s mother during an interview on the same show.

According to her, the abuse allegedly began when the girl went to stay with her father in Garu after years of not knowing him.

She claimed the father allegedly forced himself on the girl during her first visit.

The mother further stated that the child later underwent a medical examination at an undisclosed hospital, where she was diagnosed with HIV.

She expressed concern that the matter has not received the attention it deserves, especially given that the suspect is a member of the police service.

“I don’t know if the IGP has heard it, but I don’t know why they will sit aloof and not say anything, especially when the man is a police officer,” she said.

Mrs Morrison added that she intends to personally follow up with the relevant authorities.

“As a woman, I will try and contact them and see the way forward,” she said.

She stressed the need for immediate relocation and protection of the victim.

“We need to relocate the girl to the safest place. The interest of the child, her welfare and education are important,” she stated.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, the former Member of Parliament for Agona West said she was shocked by the incident and could not comprehend how such an act could happen within a family.

“I can’t even understand why a man, with his own child, will go ahead and sleep with her. If this is not spiritual, I don’t see why a man would have the sense to do that,” she said.

She further noted that even among extended family members, such behaviour would be unthinkable.

“Even cousins won’t go to that extent, even if they are not aware of their siblings, let alone a father doing that,” she added.

Mrs Morrison stressed that while the incident is deeply disturbing, attention must now focus on the welfare and protection of the child.

“Now there is sickness in it, and what has happened has already happened. So what can we do to help the child, as the crime has already taken place? We have to think about the safety of the child,” she said.

Adenta building collapse: Margaret died trying to save her children – Sister recounts [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/adenta-building-collapse-margaret-died-trying-to-save-her-children-sister-recounts-listen/ Thu, 04 Jun 2026 11:04:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669125 Georgina Robinson, sister of 35-year-old Margaret Kpeli, who died in the Adenta New Site building collapse, has shared details of the tragic incident that claimed her sister’s life and left her children injured.

Margaret, a mother of three children, two boys aged 13 and 8, and a four-year-old girl, was among victims trapped when a three-storey building collapsed at Adenta New Site in the Greater Accra Region following heavy rainfall.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Georgina said she rushed to the scene after calls to her sister went unanswered.

“When we heard about the incident, I called her line but she was not picking. I rushed to the place, and when I got there, the building had collapsed and they had already rescued the children,” she said.

She explained that Margaret was still trapped under the rubble while efforts were ongoing to rescue her.

“They had rescued two of the children and left one and my sister trapped. Later, they rescued the last child and rushed them to the hospital, but my sister was still under the debris,” she recounted.

Georgina added that her sister died while trying to save her children.

“According to the eldest child, they were eating when the building collapsed. My sister lay on them to protect them, and she was injured by iron rods. She tried to save them, and that is why she lost her life,” she said.

She further revealed that the family had only recently moved into the building.

“They started building it about three years ago and moved in just last year,” she noted.

Georgina also said the family is yet to be informed about where her sister’s body has been taken.

“As of now, we don’t know where her body has been sent. We are going to check the hospital. But the children are doing well,” she added.

The incident occurred after a storey building collapsed at Adenta New Site, leaving several people injured and others trapped under debris.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, and other agencies, are continuing rescue and recovery operations at the scene.

Weija dam spillage: Authorities will take tough decisions in good faith – MCE on evictions https://www.adomonline.com/weija-dam-spillage-authorities-will-take-tough-decisions-in-good-faith-mce-on-evictions/ Fri, 29 May 2026 11:28:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667078 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, has called for strict action against individuals who sell lands in waterways, following the recent flooding and Weija Dam spillage that has displaced residents in parts of Accra.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said many people knowingly purchase and build on lands within flood-prone and waterlogged areas, contributing to the recurring disaster.

“When people are buying land, they should know that these are waterlogged areas, yet they still go ahead to build there. The dam was created so that water can pass through,” he said.

He added that those involved in selling such lands should be ashamed of their actions.

“Those who sold those lands should bow their heads in shame for selling to people,” he stated.

Mr Lamptey called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, including traditional authorities, to prevent future occurrences.

“I am calling on all stakeholders to be part of this and not allow this to happen again, just as the Ga Mantse has said,” he noted.

He also warned residents not to assume safety once water levels begin to drop.

“Even if the water goes down, those staying around those areas should not think they are safe,” he cautioned.

The MCE stressed that any decisions taken to address the situation must be accepted in good faith, adding that authorities were prepared to take tougher measures going forward.

“We are going to be radical about it so this will not happen again,” he said. “It’s not about demolition for demolition’s sake, but we all have a role in what is happening.”

He further urged against politicising the issue, saying many homes had already been affected.

“I don’t want to see this again in my constituency where people suffer whenever it rains heavily. This is not the time for sensationalism,” he added.

Mr Lamptey noted that he had been in office for about a year and believed human behaviour and poor land-use practices were partly to blame for the situation.

His comments come after the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, called for tough action against chiefs accused of selling lands on waterways and flood-prone areas, warning that the practice is worsening flooding in parts of Accra.

During a visit to affected communities on Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Ga Mantse said traditional leaders found culpable should face arrest and prosecution.

The flooding, triggered by the Weija Dam spillage, has displaced several residents, submerged homes and shops, and forced many families to evacuate their belongings.

Water levels are beyond six feet – MP calls f or extreme caution as homes submerged in Weija https://www.adomonline.com/water-levels-are-beyond-six-feet-mp-calls-for-extreme-caution-as-homes-submerged-in-weija/ Thu, 28 May 2026 12:08:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666849 The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed, says the flooding situation in the constituency has reached alarming levels, with more than a thousand homes reportedly submerged following the spillage of the Weija Dam.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said the disaster has displaced many residents and left others stranded in dangerous conditions.

“More than a thousand homes have been submerged,” he said, describing the situation as “like you are driving in the sea.”

He explained that in several areas, floodwaters have risen beyond six feet, making movement extremely risky for residents.

“In some places the water level is beyond six feet, so if you can’t swim, don’t even dare,” he warned, adding that some people have even been forced to climb trees to escape rising waters.

Mr. Ahmed said residents were caught off guard and had no prior warning before the spillage began.

“My people had no notice,” he said, stressing that the lack of communication worsened the emergency.

He also accused the Ghana Water Company Limited of failing to properly engage local authorities ahead of the spillage, unlike in previous years.

“What I have known for the past four years is that they try and engage us, but this time they didn’t,” he said.

According to him, the absence of coordination meant communities were not prepared for the sudden rise in water levels.

“They were supposed to engage us and not wait for the water to come just like that,” he added.

Mr. Ahmed further disclosed that he has personally rented Kia trucks to support evacuation efforts, while some displaced residents have been moved into guest houses for temporary shelter.

He also said he had engaged the Municipal Chief Executive to consider dredging works using DIP machines to improve water flow and reduce future flooding risks.

Describing the situation as a crisis, the MP called for urgent intervention from security agencies.

“This is a national security threat,” he said, urging collaboration between the military, police, and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to support evacuation efforts.

He further warned that only two spillways had been opened so far, cautioning that the situation could worsen if more are released.

Meanwhile, hundreds of homes in Weija in the Greater Accra Region remain submerged after the dam spillage, with residents continuing to be evacuated as emergency teams work to manage the disaster.

No prior notice was given – Weija-Gbawe MCE raises concern over Dam spillage [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/no-prior-notice-was-given-weija-gbawe-mce-raises-concern-over-dam-spillage-listen/ Thu, 28 May 2026 11:29:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666833 The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, says the Municipal Assembly was not given any prior notice before the spillage of the Weija Dam, a situation he says contributed to the scale of flooding currently affecting communities in the area.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he explained that the lack of early communication from the Ghana Water Company Limited meant the Assembly could not properly prepare or alert residents in advance.

“We were not given any prior notice, so we could not prepare adequately as a municipal assembly,” he said, adding that in previous years there had been better collaboration and early warning systems in place.

Mr. Lamptey noted that the spillage was opened on Wednesday evening, but the volume of water entering communities was more than expected.

“They opened the spillway and suddenly saw water entering houses. It was not expected to rise to that level so quickly,” he said.

He further explained that when the situation worsened, he personally went to engage officials of Ghana Water but did not meet the manager in charge at the time, and was told the responsible officer was unavailable.

The MCE said emergency response measures have since been activated to support affected residents.

According to him, small boats have been deployed to evacuate people, especially those unable to swim, while vehicles are also being used to move residents and their belongings to safer locations, including nearby churches.

He added that Assembly Members have been tasked to assist in evacuation efforts and coordinate support for displaced families.

Meanwhile, hundreds of homes in parts of Weija in the Greater Accra Region have been submerged following the dam spillage, leaving many residents displaced.

Floodwaters have rapidly spread through low-lying communities, forcing families to abandon their homes and belongings as authorities continue evacuation and relief efforts.

We don’t care about World Bank, gov’t issues – Weija residents on delayed Children’s Hospital [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/we-dont-care-about-world-bank-govt-issues-weija-residents-on-delayed-childrens-hospital-audio/ Tue, 26 May 2026 15:11:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666273 Haruna Amidu, a resident of Weija, has called on government to immediately open the completed Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital, describing its continued closure as a waste of resources.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said residents are not interested in ongoing disagreements between government, the World Bank, and the contractor over the facility.

“All we need is for government to open the hospital for us,” he said.

He stressed that once the facility is opened and operational, any disputes could be resolved later.

“Government and the World Bank can have their back and forth, but that is not our concern. They should come and open the hospital for us first, and continue their discussions afterwards,” he added.

Mr. Haruna expressed concern that the facility, despite being completed, is not in use, describing it as a waste of public investment.

“There are lights in the hospital since it was constructed, but it is still not in use. That is a waste of money,” he said.

He argued that opening the facility would help generate revenue for government while improving healthcare delivery.

“If it is opened and operational, at least it will generate revenue for the government,” he noted.

He further urged authorities to treat the situation as an emergency.

“We need the hospital as an emergency case. It should be treated as such,” he said.

Mr. Haruna insisted that residents want immediate action rather than continued discussions.

“All we know is that the hospital should be opened. The World Bank and contractor issues are not needed now. They should open it for us,” he stressed.

The Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital project has been the subject of public concern in recent weeks due to delays in its commissioning despite the completion of major construction works.

Meanwhile, the World Bank has reportedly urged government to expedite the operationalisation of the facility, noting that the multi-million-dollar project was intended to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly for children.
