Hundreds of mourners have gathered at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region for the funeral of the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, despite an interim injunction issued by the Accra High Court seeking to halt the ceremony.
The funeral grounds were filled with sympathisers from across the country, with several VIP buses transporting mourners to the venue. Workers were also seen making final preparations, arranging chairs and canopies as funeral activities got underway.
Among the notable personalities in attendance were Kumawood actress Mercy Asiedu and fashion entrepreneur Osebo the Zaraman, who joined family members, church members, traditional leaders and admirers to pay their last respects to the renowned inventor and religious leader.
The large turnout reflects the influence Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka had on many Ghanaians through his contributions to religion, engineering, technology and industrial development.
The funeral is taking place amid an ongoing legal dispute over the arrangements. The Accra High Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2026, granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, from proceeding with the funeral arrangements pending the determination of a case before the court.
The order was intended to preserve the status quo while the substantive issues are considered by the court. However, activities at the funeral grounds continued, with mourners arriving in large numbers and preparations ongoing.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies, is widely recognised as one of Ghana’s foremost inventors and industrialists.
His contributions to automobile manufacturing, engineering innovation and technological advancement earned him national recognition, with many describing him as a visionary who promoted self-reliance and Ghanaian ingenuity.
His passing has attracted tributes from political leaders, traditional authorities, religious organisations and members of the public, many of whom have praised his legacy and impact on Ghana’s industrial landscape.
The legal proceedings surrounding the funeral arrangements are expected to continue after the expiration of the High Court’s interim injunction.
