The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have submitted a request to the Ministry of Transport for a review of public transport fares.
In a joint statement dated September 3, 2026, the two transport organisations said the request was made in accordance with the Administrative Instrument governing the review of public transport fares.
According to the groups, the process forms part of the established consultative framework for determining and reviewing fares, taking into consideration the various costs associated with the operation of commercial road transport services.
The leadership said discussions with the Ministry of Transport are expected to commence soon, after which the outcome of the consultations will be communicated to the public.
The GPRTU and GRTCC urged drivers, station masters, transport owners and the general public to remain calm and await the conclusion of the process.
They stressed that any adjustment to public transport fares would be communicated after the necessary consultations with the Ministry of Transport.
