The Ministry of Education has strongly condemned the violent incident at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (O’SHTS), describing the attack as criminal and unacceptable.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak on Wednesday, August 5, the Ministry said it unequivocally condemns the disturbance, stressing that acts of violence and lawlessness have no place in Ghana’s educational institutions.
The condemnation follows an incident at the school in which the headmaster was allegedly attacked by some students, prompting the temporary closure of the institution.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that appropriate disciplinary action is taken against all persons found culpable.
According to the Ministry, the investigation should be conducted in line with the laws and regulations governing the country’s education sector.
The Ministry reaffirmed that discipline remains the cornerstone of quality education and assured the public of its commitment to maintaining order in schools across the country.
It said it would continue to work closely with the Ghana Education Service and other relevant state institutions to strengthen discipline, protect school authorities and students, and ensure that educational institutions remain safe environments for teaching and learning.
