The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, says the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (O’SHTS) has been temporarily closed to allow the Ghana Police Service to investigate the assault on the school’s headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria.
Addressing the media at the school, the MCE said it would not be appropriate for academic activities to continue while security personnel remain deployed to maintain law and order.
The decision comes after some students assaulted the headmaster over claims related to the alleged burial of a foetus on the school premises.
The MCE said the school would remain closed until police complete their investigations, after which a date for reopening would be announced.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Education has also confirmed the temporary closure of the school pending the outcome of investigations.
