The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Abdulia Zakaria, is in critical condition after he was allegedly attacked by students during a violent disturbance on the school campus.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, following allegations by some students that the headmaster was involved in ritual activities within the school.
According to reports, the students attacked Mr Zakaria, leaving him with multiple injuries. He was initially taken to the AGA Health Foundation Hospital for medical attention before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further treatment.
The unrest also led to the destruction of two private vehicles belonging to teachers, damage to the headmaster’s bungalow, and vandalism of other school properties.
Adom News checks further revealed that some students had also accused the headmaster of having inappropriate relationships with female students.
The students allegedly claimed that a female student became pregnant, later aborted the pregnancy, and that the remains were buried on the school compound by the headmaster. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has since intervened to restore calm, with increased police patrols ongoing to maintain security and prevent further disturbances.
Some female food vendors operating on the school campus told Adom News that the unrest has affected their businesses due to disruptions to normal school activities.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
