An old student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Kwabena Egyiri, has raised concerns over the conduct of the school’s headteacher, Abdulai Zakaria, following allegations of misconduct, noting that he has been at the school for less than a year.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Egyiri said Mr Zakaria assumed office after the retirement of the immediate past headmaster, Mr Wiafe, and that concerns about his conduct allegedly emerged shortly after his appointment.
“He has just been there for about a year. He replaced the immediate past headmaster, Mr Wiafe, who is on retirement,” he said.
Mr Egyiri claimed that his investigations suggested that within the headteacher’s first month at the school, about 15 students had allegedly experienced harassment.
“My findings show that within his first month, about 15 students suffered harassment,” he alleged.
He further alleged that some individuals and institutions were aware of the concerns but failed to act on the reports.
“A lot of institutions and people know about the situation but sat on it,” Mr Egyiri claimed.
According to him, some students were allegedly discouraged from speaking out because of threats they claimed were made by the headteacher.
“He tells the students that he is an occult, and if they tell anybody, they will die,” he alleged.
Mr Egyiri’s comments follow an incident at Obuasi SHTS where some students reportedly attacked the headteacher, sparking public discussions over allegations concerning his conduct and student safety.
Reports indicate that the attack left Mr Zakaria with multiple injuries. He was initially taken to the AGA Health Foundation Hospital for medical attention before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further treatment.
The allegations against the headteacher have not been independently verified, and authorities are yet to conclude investigations into the matter. Mr Zakaria has not publicly responded to the allegations.
