Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has urged the Black Princesses to play without fear as they prepare for their opening match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Adams visited the team’s training camp ahead of Saturday’s Group D clash against Ecuador, praising the side for reaching the tournament for an eighth consecutive time and assuring them of President John Dramani Mahama’s support.
“I bring you greetings from the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, who is very aware of the task ahead of you,” the minister told the players.
“He is the reason I am here to assure you that he is keenly following the team.”
Adams described the Black Princesses as one of Ghana’s most consistent national teams on the international stage and challenged them to achieve a historic breakthrough.
“If there is any of our national teams that has continuously made an appearance on the world stage, it is the Princesses,” he said.
He encouraged the players to believe in their abilities and remain united throughout the tournament.
“Don’t be intimidated by any opponent. They don’t play any better football than you,” he said, adding that teamwork would be key to achieving success.
The minister also pledged to be in the stands to support the team during their opening fixture.
Ghana begin their campaign against Ecuador on 6 September before facing the Dominican Republic and France in their remaining group matches.
The Black Princesses are aiming to reach the knockout stages of the U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.
