The Deputy Minister of Works and Housing has mounted a spirited defence for Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh who is being pressured to resign.
Barbara Asher Ayisi maintained that such calls are misplaced, especially when he supervised a smooth implementation of government’s flagship programme, free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the head of the Education Minister after the school placement system was marred with controversies.
Thousands of pupils have not gained admission into SHS after the software was allegedly hacked.
Distraught parents stormed the Black Star Square where a solution centre was set up to address the issues but it was chaotic.

Some pupils collapsed after standing for hours. The NDC, which supplied food and water to them, have asked the Minister, popularly known as Napo, to resign for exhibiting gross incompetence.
But, Hon. Ayisi said the NDC wants to paint the Education Minister black for political capital.
“Napo is a go-getter and always works hard to ensure results are achieved so the NDC must come again,” she said on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Thursday.

Hon Ayisi, who is also a former Deputy Education Minister, blamed both parents and pupils for the problems that had characterised the school placement system.
She explained that, if the parents had been part of the school selection process, the mess would have been avoided.
“Most parents know their children are not good but the child will choose Wesley Girls or other A-list schools and later come and blame the government for it. This is unfortunate,” Hon Ayisi added.
The Deputy Works and Housing Minister appealed to parents to exercise restraint as the Education Ministry works to resolve the issues.
