Afrobeat sensation, Davido has opened up on his experience at the recently-held 66th Grammy Awards where he lost three of his nominations.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Davido said he was optimistic the nominations would have fetched him an award, nonetheless, he is grateful to have made it to the top picks.

For Davido, the mere fact of being nominated was enough to fill him with pride and gratitude as it was the first time in his decades-old career he has been recognized by such prestigious platform.

“Being nominated alone is enough to make me proud of myself. I just want my song to be heard on the radio once or twice in the beginning, but for it to transcend to this is just amazing and God’s doing.

Also, Davido reflected on how a conversation with his father, shortly after the awards night, brought him some much-needed relief.

Despite the disappointment of not clinching the awards, his father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, reassured him of his status as a legend.

“I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and he was like son no matter what happens, you are still a legend. So yeah, he is a big fan,” he said.

Fellow Nigerians also share same sentiments as they have flooded social media with comforting messages to Davido.
