The Foundation donated toiletries, diapers, detergents, disinfectants, as well as cash to nursing mothers who gave birth on Sunday in six hospitals within the greater Kumasi metropolis.

The charity exercise benefited more than 150 lactating mothers who delivered babies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Atonsu, and Tafo government hospitals, KNUST hospital, among other clinics.

CEO of the Foundation, Evans Kofi Kwafo, said the organisation is committed to impacting lives.

“My mother told me she wants nothing for this Mother’s Day; she instructed me to honour mothers, and that’s what I have done,” the CEO asserted.

He promised to intensify such gestures going forward, witnessing the dire need of some mothers at the various hospitals who cannot afford the basic necessities or pay their bills and advised women not to abort or abandon their infants.

“I advise women not to abort pregnancy, and neither abandon your children, because God will cater to and provide your needs. ”

“We will do more henceforth and call on others to support our good work. I thank the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, who gave me an envelope through Appiah Stadium. I never imagined it, so I’m grateful,” he revealed.

EKK Charity Foundation, which has been in existence for the past decade, decided to do something unusual in its operations.

Mrs Joana Adom Afrifa, Social Welfare representative at the KATH Maternity Block, thanked the Foundation, emphasising that the items presented will help alleviate the needs of the mothers.

Madam Yaa, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the foundation.

“We thank you, and God bless you. All the mothers say God bless you. I stand on their behalf to say thank you. May the Lord bless you and make all your doings be well. I am very happy,” the mother of two appreciated.

The Foundation also paid a courtesy visit to Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, and presented gifts to celebrate her.

The foundation also paid hospital bills for some mothers who had been denied going home due to unsettled bills.

In total, over GH₵51,000 was paid to cover outstanding hospital fees.

The gesture, part of the Gifty Anti Foundation’s Mother’s Day outreach, came as a lifeline for many of the women, some of whom had been unable to leave the hospital for more than two weeks due to financial constraints.

Among the beneficiaries was the family of a woman who, after 17 years of childlessness, tragically passed away from complications following a Caesarean section. Her medical bills were fully covered by the foundation, offering her grieving family some relief.

Beyond clearing the hospital debts, the initiative reached over 100 women across the Gynaecology, Labour, Post-CS, and Post-Delivery wards.

In all, 85 new mothers received gift packages to celebrate the arrival of their babies, while 20 others were presented with new clothes to support their postpartum recovery.

Speaking during the donation, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, known for her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and well-being, described the outreach as deeply personal and called for more support for vulnerable women, especially from men.

The foundation’s initiative was made possible with support from the Micheam Foundation, Dankyi Mireku RTW, Dede Classics, and other individual donors whose contributions amplified the impact.

Five additional women are expected to be discharged soon, following extra cash donations from well-wishers.

Danye Sidzi Ma: A timeless ode to motherhood by Togbe Afrika https://www.adomonline.com/danye-sidzi-ma-a-timeless-ode-to-motherhood-by-togbe-afrika/ Sun, 11 May 2025 15:57:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2533910 In the rich tapestry of Ghanaian music, few compositions resonate as profoundly as “Danye Sidzi Ma,” an evocative Ewe song by Togbe Afrika, also known as His Excellency Paskal A.B. Rois.

This heartfelt tribute to mothers—particularly his own, Miss Kassah Josephine—encapsulates the universal appreciation for maternal love and sacrifice.

Composed in 1999, prior to Rois’s enrollment at Accra Polytechnic in 2000, the song was inspired by his mother’s unwavering support during his educational journey.

Miss Kassah Josephine, a former teacher at Mac-Tetteh International School in Dzodze, played a pivotal role in his academic pursuits, especially during his secondary and tertiary education. Her dedication and sacrifices became the muse for this enduring piece.

In 2003, after several demo recordings, “Danye Sidzi Ma” was professionally produced by renowned Ghanaian producer Jay Q at Hush Hush Studios. Despite the absence of social media platforms at the time, the song gained significant traction, receiving extensive airplay across various radio stations. Its poignant lyrics and soulful melody struck a chord with listeners, making it a staple in many households.

The song’s enduring appeal lies not only in its melodic composition but also in its lyrical depth. It paints a vivid picture of the struggles and sacrifices mothers endure to ensure the well-being and success of their children. Togbe Afrika’s choice of words and emotive delivery encapsulate the essence of maternal love, making it a timeless piece that continues to resonate with audiences across generations.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Paskal A.B. Rois has made significant strides in various sectors. Appointed as the Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Ghana in 2021, he has been instrumental in fostering diplomatic relations between the two nations. Additionally, as a serial entrepreneur, he has established ventures in oil and gas, aviation, travel and tourism, media, construction, minerals, and pharmaceuticals.

While his professional commitments have taken precedence in recent years, the legacy of “Danye Sidzi Ma” remains undiminished. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, this song serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable role mothers play in shaping our lives. It encourages contemporary musicians to craft lyrics that not only entertain but also convey meaningful messages.

In honoring all mothers, “Danye Sidzi Ma” stands as a testament to the enduring power of music to express gratitude, love, and appreciation. It is a clarion call to recognize and celebrate the unwavering strength and sacrifices of mothers everywhere.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our cherished mothers.

Mother’s Day: Consider paying allowance to single mothers – PNC to govt https://www.adomonline.com/mothers-day-consider-paying-allowance-to-single-mothers-pnc-to-govt/ Mon, 09 May 2022 15:25:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2112692 The People’s National Convention (PNC), has asked the government to consider introducing a legislation that will help provide some form of allowance to single mothers.

The party made the demand in a press release it issued to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, marked on Sunday, May 8.

In the statement signed by the General Secretary, Janet Asana Nabla, the PNC said this is part of “best practices” elsewhere that should be emulated in the country.

As a result, it wants the Executive and Parliament to urgently pass legislation for the payment of the said allowance.

“It is our call to the Executive arm of the government and the Legislature to emulate best practices elsewhere and enact laws to provide some form of allowances to these single mothers”.

The PNC bemoaned the growing incidence of single parenting in the country and its effects on mothers.

“There is an increasing rate of single parenting in recent times, especially mothers who are single-handedly caring for their children, whereas the fathers are absent”.

It is thus calling for financial support for single mothers, asking the government to enforce laws against fathers who shirk their parental responsibilities.

“For the absentee fathers, we call for a review of existing laws to ensure that fathers who avoid taking responsibility for their children are severely punished to serve as a deterrent to others.”

“The sad reality is that most of the women who pursue these fathers by themselves, like going to DOVVSU, Legal Aid, the Juvenal courts, social welfare etc, end up abandoning the cause because the bureaucracy is too much for them.”

The party also urged the government to institute a scheme whereby institutions such as MASLOC and NEIP offer special financial assistance to single mothers.

“Again, it is our call to the government to institute a scheme via institutions such as the MASLOC, NEIP amongst others to offer special financial services to single mothers who are engaged in any form of enterprises.”

Shirley Frimpong-Manso narrates devastating tale of childlessness https://www.adomonline.com/shirley-frimpong-manso-narrates-devastating-tale-of-childlessness/ Wed, 13 May 2020 09:50:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1793413 Mother’s Day, though intended to celebrate the feminine gender, can become a dreaded day for some who have either lost their mothers or have never given birth.

Being reminded of one’s inability to put to birth can be very painful.

This is the experience shared by Ghanaian filmmaker, Shirley Frimpong-Manso.

In a lengthy narration on Instagram, the award-winner summed up her experience using the situation of two women in dire need to be called mothers.

One, Abba successfully bore a child, but the other after years of trial could not conceive, a development which constantly reminded the latter of her pain.

She touched on how the display of affection for one’s children, the never-ending talk of motherhood and an unwanted menstruation is nothing but pain to such women.

The entire moral of her post was to uplift the spirits of such women.

Read her post below:

My phone rang yesterday. My friend Abba was on the line screaming. Her husband had bought her a new car. It was Mother’s Day, she deserved it. Abba had tried to get pregnant for 7 years. After 6 failed IVF’s , 1 ectopic pregnancy, and 3 miscarriages, she had given birth to a beautiful bouncing baby girl. She was happy and why the hell shouldn’t she be. It had been many years of pain. After the baby came she’ll call me 5 times a day to tell me how magical her days had become. She posted many pictures of her ‘miracle’ on Facebook and shared with the world the many rewards of motherhood. I hanged up the phone, and like I did many times these days, I crawled back into my bed and wept. You see Abba and I had both wanted children. She has hers, I still don’t. Yesterday my period showed it’s face again, of course Abba didn’t know that but do you know what else she doesn’t know? Her happiness; as much as it’s well deserved, tears my insides out. You see Abba was like me once. We couldn’t bare to see all those lovely photos that mothers posted of their babies; we hated those women who constantly spoke about how great motherhood was and Mother’s Day was our most dreaded date on the calendar. No, I am not jealous and I don’t even need her sympathy. I just wish she didn’t forget so soon that as much as her world has changed, mine hasn’t but I am still very much… all woman.

‘My mother was somebody that gave me a lot of confidence and she believed in me,’ Trump, 73, noted. ‘My father was the same. I mean, he was a strong guy but he was a good man, very good human being, very good person. And he always had confidence in me so. And in our family.’

Trump, who has been divorced twice and is the father of five children via three wives, also said he was at an advantage for having grown up in a two-parent household.

‘I had really, really good parents and it’s such an advantage in life. You know, you see so much with the single families and the children growing up without a mother or father or whatever it may be. It’s a very tough situation for people – a very very tough situation,’ he noted.

‘If you’re lucky – and there’s a lot of luck involved – if you’re lucky enough to have one great parent or ideally two great parents, what a tremendous advantage it is in life. It’s just a tremendous thing,’ he said.

Patrons, who were mainly mothers, were treated to nice relaxing musical performances and amazing gift packages on Sunday, May 14.

The icing on the cake was performance by the ‘King of Comedy’, DKB. The comedian mounted the stage and gave a rib-cracking performance which left the mothers present laughing their heads off.

He started his performance by appreciating mothers and also gave a clear distinction on why mothers are very much celebrated than fathers.

He further went on to give an account of his visit to Kumasi and other hilarious jokes which got the mothers laughing hysterically.

Apart from DKB, there were also musical performances by Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, Joe Mettle and the ‘Rap Doctor’, Okyeame Kwame.

PHOTO: Mother dies on Mother’s Day saving daughter’s life https://www.adomonline.com/photo-mother-dies-mothers-day-saving-daughters-life/ Tue, 16 May 2017 05:56:06 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=120491 A mother in Long Island showed the depths of her love on Mother’s Day by giving up her life to save her daughter’s.

Diane Aluska, 55, of Lindenhurst, New York, was walking with her 16-year-old daughter, Jenna, when a Toyota Corolla barreled toward them in reverse.

The driver, 80-year-old Ann Riolo, had just backed out of a bakery parking lot. She hit the accelerator without realizing the car was still in reverse.

Instead of going forward, the car went backwards, jumped the curb and headed toward the two women, according to the New York Post.

Aluska managed to push Jenna nearly out of the car’s path, but the vehicle slammed the mother of three up against the wall of a fire station, according to the New York Daily News.

“Diane Aluska … put her hand on her daughter’s shoulder and attempted to push her out of the way,” Detective Sgt. James Murphy told the New York Post.

Aluska, Jenna and Riolo were all taken to a local hospital. Jenna and Riolo suffered only non-life-threatening injuries, but Aluska died.

I have no doubt that she saved her daughter’s life,” Murphy told Newsday.

Riolo’s car was impounded for a safety check, according to NBC New York. However, police said the crash appeared to be accidental so no one has been charged.

Kenneth Aluska told the New York Post that his daughter was unaware of her mom’s passing as of Sunday evening.

“She doesn’t know,” he said. “Me and her brother have to tell her.”

When Mother’s Day hurts: Life after pregnancy loss https://www.adomonline.com/mothers-day-hurts-life-pregnancy-loss/ Tue, 09 May 2017 07:31:32 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=109791

I sat up on the exam table, my husband next to me. Our doctor turned her back on us and asked for the date of my last period. With her calendar wheel in hand, she turned around and pronounced that May 30th would be my due date.

Excitement filled my body. I couldn’t stop smiling. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a mother, and now it was happening. Joe turned to me and said, “Kathy you will either be very pregnant or holding a newborn for your first Mother’s Day.” We were thrilled.

Hallmark-approved images of me either in a flowing maternity dress, serenely awaiting the birth of our child, or my husband and I walking the city streets pushing our newborn baby in a carriage filled my mind. I was ecstatic.

A few weeks later my husband and I found ourselves in that same examining room staring at a ultrasound machine that showed an image of our baby, now with their small arms and legs visible, but no heartbeat.

I was devastated. All our dreams of a spring filled with our baby were shattered.

As I recovered from the physical pain of a D&C and the emotional scars that took much longer to heal, Joe and I started to look toward our “plan B.” Because we got pregnant on our first try, we hoped we wouldn’t have to wait long. I prayed that I would at least be pregnant when Mother’s Day rolled around.

I thought our prayers were answered when in late February I was looking at a positive pregnancy test. About two weeks later I was back at the doctor. I took a little solace that this time I didn’t have to have a D&C, because my body had taken care of it for me.

I was now grieving the loss of two babies.

As Mother’s Day got closer and closer, I was depressed and unsure about how I was going to recognize this day. Joe and I had gone to a support group for parents who experienced pregnancy or infant loss, and they were holding a special celebration. I knew I didn’t want this. I could not handle a present from my “angel babies.” I understood it might offer comfort to some, but not for me. It seemed to drive home the loss. It was as if the universe was telling me, “Kathy you don’t get your baby, but here is a sweet keepsake to hold instead.”

Commercials filled the airwaves with touching images of mothers and infants. I just wanted to disappear. How was I going to make it through this day?

Thankfully I was blessed to have my mom. She was sweet and understanding enough to allow my sister and I to take her out for a special lunch the day before. This way I could escape all the happy families in the suburbs, and Joe and I could be back in our apartment for the dreaded day. I did my best to enjoy the lovely lunch and be grateful for what I had. But it was hard to keep the thoughts of what this day was supposed to look like out of my head.

I woke up Mother’s Day morning and Joe handed me a card.

“Oh, honey, please, I don’t think I could handle a card from our babies.” I started to cry.

He came over and put his arms around me and softly said, “No, Kathy, it’s from Samantha.” Our cat heard her name, jumped in my lap, and started to snuggle with me.

I laughed a bit, observing the fact that though this was far from the Mother’s Day I planned, it was sort of sweet. I willed myself to remember what I did have, a loving husband and the best cat in all of world history.

I got through the day. I’m not going to lie, I did tear up whenever I saw a baby in a carriage or a woman walk by with a huge pregnant belly. And I was rendered speechless when the waiter at the restaurant we went to for dinner asked me if I was a mother. But I appreciated that Joe quickly answered for me, “not yet, but soon.”

The next year when Mother’s Day came around, I was three months pregnant. After enduring four miscarriages, I was no longer sure what life had in store for me, but I did my best to enjoy the moment.

This Mother’s Day I will most likely be woken up by the sound of Joe yelling at my three kids to please be quiet and let their mother have at least one morning of peace a year. There will be chaos and nothing even close to the Madison Avenue image of a happy day celebrating mom.

And it will be perfect.
