A 72-year-old woman, Madam Esi Akyere and her 52-year-old son, Kwamena have been burnt beyond recognition by a fire that gutted their house on Friday dawn at Brewire Axim in the Nzema East Municipal in the Western Region.
According to the Municipal Fire Station Officer, Nyameke Borzah, the two were sleeping with a candle in their room which he believes caused the fire.
Kwamena died on the spot while his mother passed on at the Axim Government Hospital.
Their bodies have been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, Assemblyman of Brewire Electoral Area, Frank Boafo says efforts at saving the two failed as they were trapped in the room.
He said the police are investigating the cause of the fire.
