Sensational Ghanaian gospel artiste, Obaapa Gyamfua emerged as the winner for the ‘Gospel Artiste of the year’ slot for the maiden edition of the Darling Eastern Music Awards.

She copped the most contended ‘Gospel Artiste of the Year’ award from Davida Afriyie and other excelling gospel artistes who were earlier tipped to win.

In an interview with Adom TV, Obaapa Gyamfua who also won the ‘Best Female Vocalist’ of the year, thus winning two awards on the night said she never expected the light to shine on her as ‘Gospel Artiste of the Year’.

“I didn’t expect to win. I was surprised to hear my name. Somehow I knew I deserved to be the winner. No gospel artiste has promoted herself like me in the region. Winning vocalist of the year should prove I deserved the glory…” she disclosed.

Meanwhile, Obaapa Gyamfua who seems to have the secret of making hits relevant songs urged various institutions such as GHAMRO, MUSIGA and GOSGA to provide aid to promote upcoming artistes across the country.

Asked if she is eyeing to be the ‘Gospel Artist of the Year’ for the annual Ghana Music Awards, the ‘Mordechai’ hit maker said she believes her talent and hard work will pave the way.

“I will plead with Musiga, GHAMRO, GOSGA and all the other organizations to help the upcoming artistes. We need help. We all start from somewhere. I will plead with them to give all of us the platform we deserve. If I will be nominated for Ghana Music Awards I will be looking up to God to win…”

Eastern Premier Hotel on Saturday hosted the event which saw splendid performances from Koo Kyei, Racky Nova, Obaapa Gyamfua, Koo Kyei, Kwame Ratty and many more.

Other big winners for the night were Pope Skinny, Abrekyiba Kofi Sammy, Talanku, Kuami Eugene, Davida Afriyie, Odehyieba Kwesi and many others.
