Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has voiced concern over the possible absence of teammate Mohammed Kudus ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kudus, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly facing a potential spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury setback that could require surgery.

The development raises fears that the influential midfielder could miss the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada this summer.

Reacting to the situation, Semenyo admitted the uncertainty surrounding Kudus’ fitness has been a major concern within the Black Stars camp, stressing the midfielder’s importance to the team.

“We have a lot of experience going into the World Cup, but Mohammed Kudus’ injury is frustrating because he is a pivotal factor in the team,” he said.

Kudus played a key role for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored twice and registered an assist during the group stage.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, having been drawn in Group L. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Following group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, head coach Carlos Queiroz is tasked with rebuilding momentum and guiding the team to a more impressive showing on the world stage.
