The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has announced that the April 2026 edition of the National Sanitation Day exercise will take place on Saturday, April 18, across selected parts of the Accra metropolis.

The clean-up exercise is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. and will continue until work is completed.

According to the Assembly, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation, protect public health, and encourage shared responsibility among residents.

Key areas earmarked for the exercise include Agbogbloshie, the Central Business District, Guggisberg Avenue, Tuesday Market, Chorkor, Kaneshie, and the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and surrounding communities.

Activities will include sweeping streets, clearing road curbs, removing unauthorised banners, and general sanitation of public spaces.

The Assembly has stressed that strict enforcement will be a central feature of the exercise, warning that residents, traders, transport operators, and shop owners who fail to comply may face sanctions or prosecution.

Assembly Members are expected to lead activities in their respective electoral areas to ensure effective coordination and boost participation.

The AMA is urging all residents and stakeholders to actively take part in the exercise, noting that sustained cleanliness is essential to preventing disease outbreaks and maintaining a healthy urban environment.

It further encouraged the public to adopt proper waste disposal practices beyond the exercise to help build a cleaner and more orderly capital.
