Backing vocalist Nana Ama has opened up about how her journey in the music industry took off, crediting veteran musician Lord Kenya as the turning point in her career.
Speaking in an interview on Prime Morning on Joy Prime, Nana Ama described her work with Lord Kenya as her “first breakthrough,” explaining that it gave her the visibility she needed to grow in the industry.
According to her, the recognition she gained from that collaboration opened doors, with many industry players beginning to associate her name with the veteran artiste.
“After my breakthrough with Lord Kenya, people started attaching my name to him. They used to refer to me as Nana Ama Lord Kenya,” she said, adding that the connection often worked in her favour when she entered new studio spaces.
She explained that her career growth was largely organic, driven by word-of-mouth and exposure rather than formal recommendations.
Nana Ama recounted that during studio sessions, other musicians would often take notice of her voice and inquire about her identity, only to realise she was the same vocalist linked to Lord Kenya.
That recognition, she noted, led to more opportunities to work with a wide range of artistes across different genres, including gospel and secular music.
Over time, she has collaborated with several acts, including Darcelle, Yaw Dabo, VIP and others, steadily building a reputation as a versatile and reliable backing vocalist.
