Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

According to him, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department has formally notified government that the funds were deducted and transferred in line with directives issued by the President.

“The Controller and Accountant-General has formally notified government that he has deducted and transferred a total of GH¢6.1 million to the Fund pursuant to the President’s directive,” he stated.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that during the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as “Mahama Cares,” President Mahama pledged to donate six months of his salary to support the initiative.

He added that the President also encouraged all political appointees to contribute one month of their salaries towards the Fund.

According to the Minister, appointees who failed to comply with the President’s deadline for asset declaration were additionally directed to forfeit three months of their salaries to the Fund.

He revealed that arrangements are ongoing to transfer the final tranche, including deductions from officials who defaulted on the asset declaration directive.
