A Former Western Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the death of the Takoradi constituency treasurer of the ruling NPP, Mark Ofori, as painful.

According to Nana Owusu Ankomah, though every death is painful, Mr Ofori’s death surpasses them all as it never dawned on him that an exceptional person who does his work diligently will die under such circumstances.

“The death of every human being is sad and so it is important that we value human lives. The late Mark Ofori won’t even hurt a fly. Mark Ofori is a good man, brother and a man of God,” he said.

Mr Ofori was shot dead on Wednesday by unknown assailants at Fijai in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis in the Western region.

A relative of the treasurer, whose name has not been given, also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident that happened at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Mr Ankomah, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen show, noted that claims that Mr Ofori was murdered due to internal wrangling are far-fetched.

“The death of Mark Ofori has nothing to do with internal wrangling in Takoradi NPP. We are united with one accord,” he said.
