The Central Regional Minister, Kwamina Duncan says the suspended first Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Horace Ekow Ewusi was given time to respond to allegations levelled against him by one Edward Okraku Adum but he failed to respond.
Speaking at a press conference in Cape Coast, the Regional Minister said the allegations made against Ekow Ewusi could affect the fortunes of the party in the 2020 elections hence their decision to suspend him.
“As outlined by the Regional Secretary, this is all that happened, that a petitioner brought in a petition against him…So a concerned Regional Chairman and for that matter the party cannot sit and watch unconcerned because the individual who the allegations are being made against is a key member of the party so for that matter Ekow Ewusi was invited to explain himself but he refused”.
According to the Regional Minister, the matter was referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the party.
He explained that the New Patriotic Party is not ready to lose the seats it won in the 2016 general elections adding that the party is firmly behind the Executive Committee decision.
“It is not as we wish but it is as the party constitution. I am assuring all of us and it is not as if I am saying this.”
In July 2019, a group of NPP supporters petitioned the national leadership of the NPP over the suspension of 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Horace Ekow Ewusi.
A number of demonstrations have also been held in a bid to get the party to reinstate Ewusi.
On Tuesday, 13 NPP Central Regional Constituency Chairmen petitioned the national leadership of the party to intervene in the matter to have the First Vice Chair reinstated.
