Former Referees Association Chairman, Retied referee Alex Kortey has corroborated claims that referees indeed take bribe.
According to the former FIFA official, he is not surprised at the recent fate of the eight referees who have been ban by CAF because most of them are untruthful and only interested in taking money.
“All of us including the Referees Committee must bow our heads in shame for all the revelations from the Anas video. We caused all of the mess we saw. The leadership of the Committee do not speak the truth, when you try to be truthful, you will be sidelined”, he said.
Citing his 14 months ban some time ago as an example, the out spoken referee insisted fighting for the right thing to be done within the committee is always met with a high level of resistance.
“I was ban and sidelined for over a year because I insisted the right thing be done within the referees committee and I decided not to speak the referees again”.
Rtd. Referee Kortey further advised his colleagues to much more vigilant going forward to protect their integrity and the job.
