Radio XYZ show host, Salifu Maase, popularly known as Mugabe, has been charged by the Ghana Police over comments he made on live radio about plans to eliminate Joy News’ investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni.
The charges are offensive conduct and false news publication capable of causing fear and panic among Ghanaians.
The charges were made known at a press briefing on Tuesday, where the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss, Maame Tiwaa Addo- Danquah stated that Mugabe was invited by the CID to assist in investigations, but was charged afterwards.
“Mugabe was invited to come and assist with the investigation process but said he was under the spirits. Mugabe has been charged with offensive conduct and publication of false news and is before court. They went to court but the judges are having a training programme,” the CID boss said.

Mr Maase alleged on his show on Radio XYZ that he had information about a planned threat on the life of the Joy News’ investigative following the airing of the documentary ‘Militia in the Heart of the Nation’ which revealed how individuals were using the former seat of government, the Osu Castle to recruit party vigilantes.
