Ghanaian chef Nhyiraba Zulaiha has successfully completed 72 hours of her ambitious 192-hour cook-a-thon aimed at breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous cooking marathon.

The record attempt, which began at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Madina Zongo Astro Turf, has attracted significant public attention as she seeks to surpass the current record of 119 hours, 57 minutes and 16 seconds set by Alan Fisher in Japan in 2023.

By Tuesday evening, June 9, Chef Zulaiha had completed 72 hours of continuous cooking, remaining on course to exceed the existing record by more than 70 hours if she successfully completes the full eight-day challenge.

Throughout the cook-a-thon, Chef Zulaiha has been preparing a variety of uniquely Ghanaian dishes alongside intercontinental cuisine, showcasing the richness and diversity of Ghana’s culinary heritage.

The challenge is being conducted under strict Guinness World Records guidelines, with security provided by the Ghana Police Service.

Organisers say movement within the cooking area is tightly regulated, and no VIP access is permitted inside the kitchen to ensure compliance with the competition’s rules.

The event aims to celebrate Ghanaian cuisine, inspire aspiring chefs and entrepreneurs, and demonstrate perseverance and culinary excellence on the global stage.

Chef Zulaiha, who has operated Nyhiraba’s Kitchen for more than eight years, said the attempt is also intended to promote Ghanaian food and encourage entrepreneurship among young people.

The endurance challenge requires participants to cook continuously while adhering to strict regulations governing rest periods, food preparation and documentation.

Supporters, food enthusiasts and well-wishers have continued to visit the venue to cheer on the chef as she pushes towards the historic 192-hour target.

If successful, Chef Zulaiha will set a new benchmark for the longest continuous cooking marathon and add Ghana’s name to the Guinness World Records in the culinary category.
