National Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Nana Agyeman Prempeh has blamed residents of Tamale and its environs for the recent flooding in the Tamale Metropolis that claimed four lives.
Nana Prempeh in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Thursday said many building are on waterways and attempts to demolish them was vehemently resisted by residents.
“The flood happened because they have put up buildings in the waterways. When this happens, the water has no way than to climb up till it finds its own way. They politicize it when we want to demolish a building due to flood.
“It rained for four hours nonstop as such there was no way flood wouldn’t occur with the structures blocking the path of the water. It was not due to lack of equipment…”

Meanwhile, most residents of the area have called on the government to come to their aid and help desilt their gutters to prevent the perennial  flooding in the area.
